As a kid we remember watching movies like “Roots” that ripped the bandage off the heinous American atrocity called slavery. With all the amazing black writers, directors, actors and producers, the beauty of the African American experience is playing out before our eyes on screen. People are seeing us beyond slaves, gangsters and criminals; we are now seen as more than a statistic.
