Dear Wonderful Readers,The following vignette is what we call a “raw write.” I wrote it in 40 minutes in my writing class called UnMute, led by my incredible writing teacher, ANN RANDOLPH. I've been attending Ann's classes for the last three and a half years, and working with her has been a huge part of my creative journey. She'll be starting up UnMute again in the fall for any of you who have a lot of stories bubbling away inside of you but are unsure of where to start. I highly recommend her class.Today's prompt was the poem “What The Living Do” by Marie Howe, and I took the question: “Write about something broken in your home—something small and stupid. Let the description grow. What bigger thing does it mirror or hold? What grief or yearning lives inside that broken faucet, that squeaky hinge?”Also, I've got an exciting and quick Misseducated update. Starting this week, I will be experimenting with posting my work on Tuesdays. I've tended to publish too late on Friday evening, and I hope that publishing earlier in the week will give me more opportunities to share my work on social while it's still fresh. Still, I am eternally grateful to all my regular Friday readers, and I will keep you in the loop as to how it goes! You can expect posts from me on Tuesday from now on.I hope you enjoy this piece and have a great weekend.Love,Tash
This week on Black & Published, Nikesha speaks with Cher Terais, author of the wanderlust romance novel, Tempest in Tulum. In crafting her novels, Cher says while her settings may be exotic and lush for love, what the characters go through will always be grounded in reality. In our conversation she explains why she was never a fan of Prince Charming, the reason it took her twenty years to return to the page after she first tried to pen a novel, and how she makes her work as polished as possible as an indie author. Tramps get no respect. In the movies, the hooker is rescued from her ways by a Prince Charming-type character, and they live happily ever after. In real life, not so much. In Revelation 17 and 18 we see a woman of questionable virtue. Her name is Babylon. She will be betrayed and destroyed by those she thought were her friends. And this woman of the night will get no pity from us, or anybody. Here's Jim with Part 2 of, Queen of the Earth. Dopey, Happy, and a cold-blooded killer. Yes, Disney's 1937 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was quite the mix of spectacle, song, and skull-filled dungeons. Yet we remember it as fun for the whole family. But now, nearly 90 years later, how does this hand-drawn delight hold up in our Pixar'ed world? Do the doodles feel dated? Is all the death talk too much by today's G-Rated standards? And why does that catty Magic Mirror have such a chip on his shoulder? Hello, everyone, and welcome to the first off-season podcast of 2025! I took a little break after the season finale of The Bachelor, and now I'm back with my good friend Stephanie to discuss at length our thoughts and opinions about the live remake of Disney's Snow White. Let me tell you, dear listener, that we have lots of thoughts and lots of opinions about this controversial film. And one very big question: WHY? Why does Snow White forget to sing "Someday My Prince Will Come?" Why are the dwarves CGI? Why does Prince Charming wear a hoodie? We break down these answers and decide who is the fairest live Disney remake of them all in this episode. I hope you enjoy! EPISODE NOTES: Click HERE for the official Snow White trailer. "The Charmings" was an ABC sitcom that aired from 1987-1988. The show followed the adventures of Snow White and Prince Charming, who after a thousand year spell found themselves in 20th-century Los Angeles. Along with their two sons, the wicked stepmother Lillian, and a wisecracking Magic Mirror, they tried to adapt to modern life while clashing with contemporary norms. While some viewers appreciated "The Charmings" quirky premise, it struggled to find a consistent audience. Additionally, there were complaints from Disney about the unauthorized parody of Snow White which may have contributed to its challenges. Ultimately, low ratings led to its cancellation after two seasons. While the S1E1 boys enjoy this fairy tale turned sitcom? Listen as they deep dive the show's pilot episode. Starring: Caitlin O'Heaney, Christopher Rich, Judy Parfitt, Cork Hubbert, Brandon Call, Garette Ratliff, Paul Eiding, Dori Brenner, Sam Anderson, & Paul Winfield www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD
Fashioning a future with style, strength & storytelling: ELLE magazine's Editor-in-Chief, a French actress-singer, two fashion designers... my guests this week open up about the need for sincerity in branding oneself or a product, and finding alignment in life and with your work. A Gathering of Creatives In the latest episode of The Lisa Burke Show, the spotlight turned to creativity, self-alignment and the evolving identity of women in business and the arts. The show featured four guests joining online and in the studio: Aurélia Khazan, French actress, singer and peace ambassador; Marie-Adélaïde Leclercq-Olhagaray, editor-in-chief of ELLE Luxembourg; Elena Gromova, a fashion business consultant; and Senay Simsek Trierweiler, founder of Soul7 Couture. Each guest united through the common theme of finding one's voice and turning passion into purpose. The birth of ELLE Luxembourg and the power of words Marie-Adélaïde shared the journey of launching ELLE Luxembourg, celebrating its first anniversary with a cover story featuring the Grand Duchess. More than just a fashion magazine, ELLE stands as a platform for women's voices across generations. “Words give birth to ideas—maieutics is the art of giving birth through dialogue.” Marie-Adélaïde spoke about communication being so much more than just words, either written or spoken. “The power of words is immense... you need to choose them wisely. ” Aurélia Khazan: combining creative endeavours for a full career Aurélia Khazan, radiant and multifaceted, joined us from Paris. Aurélia spoke candidly about managing a creative career across continents while staying true to herself. “We can't wait for the phone to ring like Prince Charming—today, women must take an active role in shaping their careers.” Recounting feedback from a French agent who said she “smiled too much,” Aurelia responded with grace: “Art is about sincerity, not distance.” Her career across France, India, and beyond reflects a fearless embrace of multicultural storytelling through performance and activism. “Beauty is not a face. It's what you do. It's how you live. It's how you give back.” Senay's Soul7 Story Senay's journey was one of strength, style, and innovation. A psychologist turned designer, she created Soul7 Couture to blend elegance with activewear, crafting pieces that work both in and outside the gym. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2020, her brand became a creative outlet that supported her recovery. “I didn't fight cancer—I learned to live with it. I never gave up on my dreams.” Her recent appearance at Miami Fashion Week marked a significant step in taking her Luxembourgish label to the international stage. Senay also talks about how it was not so easy to set-up a business in Luxembourg, but this was not the experience of Elena. Branding with Meaning - Fashion Business Lab Elena Gromova, founder of Fashion Business Lab and No.Rainer, highlighted the importance of authenticity in branding. Having transitioned from finance to fashion, she emphasised the emotional core of every successful brand. As Marie-Adélaïde said, “Branding is who you are; marketing is what you offer. You need both feet to move forward.” Elena's raincoat label, No.Rainer, was inspired by Luxembourg's weather and the desire to build something meaningful. “Luxembourg surprised me—it's small but full of creative potential.” The Power of Storytelling in a Fast-Paced World The conversation turned to the contrast between fast-paced social media and the depth of long-form content. Marie-Adélaïde spoke of the balance in ELLE between daily digital articles and print features that “live longer” on readers' coffee tables. Elena, who produces beautifully crafted short videos, noted, “You need to show what's behind the picture. A 15-second video can be a hook, but sincerity is what builds a lasting connection.” As Marie-Adélaïde said, ELLE Luxembourg has a multi-generational audience and readership. They have to craft stories and interviews that appeal to all. Whether building a fashion brand, launching a media platform, or navigating a global creative career, the message was clear: authenticity, adaptability, and self-belief matter most, plus knowing your audience. https://www.imdb.com/name/nm3549980/ https://www.instagram.com/aureliakhazan_officiel/ https://www.facebook.com/aureliakhazan.page/ www.elle.lu Instagram: @elle_luxembourg www.soul7couture.com https://norainer.com https://www.instagram.com/no.rainer/ https://www.instagram.com/fashion.business.lab/

Send us a textWhat really happens after "happily ever after"? We're pouring Bahama Mamas and diving into the imagined family lives of Disney princesses a decade after their movies end. Remember those perfect fairy tale endings? Well, real life comes for everyone—even animated royalty. Snow White's still beautiful but exhausted by those "fairest of them all" questions, while her seven dwarf "uncles" won't stop visiting (and Dopey's gone viral with his dance moves). Belle juggles six kids in a castle where all the furniture had to be replaced after turning back into humans. And poor Cinderella just wants people to stop making glass slipper jokes while her Prince Charming develops the inevitable dad bod.Our princess updates don't shy away from complexity—Jasmine and Aladdin build a thriving business but face the heartbreak of putting down an aging Raja. Rapunzel manages her still-growing hair while enduring Flynn Rider's terrible dad jokes. Perhaps most poignantly, Raya struggles with alcoholism after losing her sense of purpose, eventually finding recovery through family support. From Moana's children learning demigod skills to Anna's remarkable twelve kids (thanks to multiple sets of twins and triplets), these "where are they now" scenarios blend humor with surprising emotional depth.Whether you're a Disney devotee or just curious about what comes after the credits roll, join us for this hilarious, heartwarming exploration of princess life beyond the fairy tale ending. Which royal family would you want to hang out with? Listen now and let us know! Here's who we are and what is in store for you
A lot of us learn our biggest spiritual lessons through love—through relationships, through heartbreak, through fantasies… and through the moment when it all crumbles down. We've been raised on fairytales. We walk into a room, scan the crowd, and wonder—is he here? We meet someone new and instantly ask, “is he the one?” Because we've been told that if we just find the right person, everything will magically fall into place. But what if love doesn't happen on our timeline? That's why today, I'm joined by my longtime friend Nadine Lee to explore the feminine spiritual path through love, heartbreak, and the transformation that follows. We met a decade ago in Bali, both in our early 20s, both navigating deep heartbreaks, lessons, and rebirths. And as we tuned into the feminine, we realized something powerful: In this episode, we dive into: ✨ Transforming from Princess to Queen by learning to trust yourself instead of waiting to be chosen. ✨ Releasing the fantasy of Prince Charming and seeing love as a reflection of your own self-worth. ✨ Creating safety within so relationships feel expansive rather than something to escape into. ✨ Identifying karmic cycles in love and shifting patterns that no longer serve you. ✨ Understanding Kali Ma's power as the force that destroys illusions so something real can be built. ✨ Embodying Queen energy in relationships by making choices rooted in self-respect and truth. The feminine is swept up in love. It is consumed by love, intoxicated by it, moved by the way it weaves through every moment. And yet, so many of us have learned to mistake longing for love itself. To believe that waiting is devotion. That attachment is connection. But real love isn't something to chase—it's something to become. And that's the real journey—from Princess, to Queen, to Priestess. Shrek and Fiona, fresh off their 'happily ever after', are invited to a Royal Ball in celebration of their marriage. It's being held, far far away in the kingdom of Far Far Away, by Fiona's parents, the King and Queen of Far Far Away, aka Mum and Dad. But hold on to your boots (Puss), because Shrek, being an actual ogre, faces a bit of a challenge fitting in with the royal family—especially when they expected the dashing Prince Charming, instead of a swamp-dwelling ogre. Shrek 2 builds on its predecessor, exploring themes of self-acceptance and the chaos of familial relationships, giving us more depth, elaborating on the story we've seen, and carrying it on naturally. He's married the princess, now he has to meet the parents. Shrek 2 is seen by many as a perfect sequel. Not a perfect movie, but a perfect sequel. This is also a movie with heart, with a great central villain who's clearly been in it for the long run, and all Fairy Godmother wants is her boy on the throne. Shrek getting a sequel was obvious, but wait, isn't this series making fun of Disney constantly churning out mediocre sequels? It's a good job this one is actually decent, right? But really, aren't we all just here for Puss in Boots? Just look at him, in his little boots! Awwwww! And where have all the good men gone? I would love to hear your thoughts on Shrek 2 !Verbal Diorama is now an award-winning podcast! I won the Best Movie Podcast in the inaugural Ear Worthy Independent Podcast Awards recently. In the final episode of our third Cinderella era, Daurie and Cassie come together to discuss the classic Just Ella by Margaret Peterson Haddix, an exploration of what happens after Happily Ever After, when life for Ella has become an endless round of lessons and restrictions and even worse, Prince Charming turns out to be more like Prince Boring. Why can't she talk with him the way she can with Jed, her earnest young tutor? Slowly, Ella comes to realize she doesn't want the life she fought so hard to win. But breaking her engagement proves more difficult -- and dangerous -- than escaping her stepmother's tyranny. Join us as we discuss our lengthy history with this novel, its impact on our soup eating, and the intricacies of glass blowing. We also touch on the novel's more problematic elements in the form of some pacing issues and its tendency toward fat-shaming.Trigger warnings for this book and episode include body image discussions, torture, physical assault, and threats of sexual assault. Once upon a time, a television network aired a show about Snow White and Prince Charming living in comtemporary times, complete with a family and a magic mirror. Alas, the enemy in this fairy tale come true was the counter-programming and the absurd premise. After about a year, the show bit the poison apple and was sent to television heaven. The end.

He makes his way to a den where he encounters a young man called Adiran Singleton, whom it is said was corrupted by Dorian. They talk for a short while and Dorian leaves, whereupon a woman calls him “Devil's bargain”, and “Prince Charming.” At these words, a Sailor rushes out after him and follows Dorian's path. Dorian reflects on whether or not he should feel bad about what he did to Adrian, but his thoughts are cut short as he is tackled and held at gunpoint by the Sailor, James Vane. Sibyl's brother has been trying to find Dorian for years, but not knowing his name other than “Prince Charming,” he has been tricky to find. Dorian scared, but sure of himself, manages to convince the man that he could not have been the man that he is hunting, since Dorian has the face of a 20 year old, and Sibyl has been dead for 18 years. James Vane releases Dorian, defeated, and Dorian makes his way quickly down the alleyway. Turning to head back, a woman says to James that Dorian has been coming to that den for 18 years, and he hasn't aged a day. Furious at himself for letting him go, James Vane vows to track Dorian down, and now with a name, the pursuit will be much simpler.

Talking points: relationships, mythology, archetypes, cultureThe title might ruffle some feathers, but sometimes, the best way to look at an issue is through a story. The symbolism has a way of highlighting many complex things at once. This week, I want to talk about an almost common trope in modern dating, but through the lens of a classic story: Cinderella.(00:00:00) - Intro, using the story as a lens, and the effect of the “wicked stepmother”(00:04:13) - The shadow of the feminine and masculine, and the archetype of Prince Charming(00:10:15) - The value of Cinderella as an archetype and symbol***This Black Friday, why bother getting more stuff when you could work on yourself? Weird Darkness is narrated by professional full-time voice actor Darren Marlar. No A.I. voices are ever used in the show. Darkness Syndicate members get the ad-free version: https://weirddarkness.tiny.us/yckuay4eIN THIS EPISODE: It was 1973, and the small town of Murphysboro, Illinois had quite a scare with numerous people encountering what many described as a large gorilla-like creature. We might call it Bigfoot or Sasquatch – they called it a “Big Muddy Monster”. (A Big Muddy Monster) *** In November, 1978, four employees at a hamburger restaurant are kidnapped and murdered. Almost forty-five years later, seven employees at a fried chicken establishment are found slain – their bodies found in the restaurant's walk-in freezer. One case found justice… the other is still waiting. (The Burger Chef and Brown's Chicken Murders) *** In Germanic and Scandinavian folklore, a child murdered by their mother is known as a Kindermorderinn – and if that child is a boy and decides to appear from beyond the dead, he's considered a “Radiant Boy”. And there are numerous stories of their hauntings. (Radiant Boy) *** Grace Stevens was excited to attend her company's annual picnic with friends and co-workers, dressing for the occasion, hoping to possibly meet her future Prince Charming. Her company was splurging and inviting everyone to take a ship from Chicago across Lake Michigan to attend the party in Michigan City. They never arrived. (Grace Stevens And The Tragedy Of The U.S.S. Eastland) *** In 1947 a woman jumped to her death from 86th floor of the Empire State Building… yet today, her ghost still needs to use the building's bathroom facilities. (The Haunted Empire State Building Bathroom) *** But first,, the governor called it “mass murder” in 1942 when forty-seven patients died at the Oregon State Hospital – all within hours. All of them, poisoned. Finding the murderer and motive would lead to an unexpected conclusion, and to an unrelenting haunting. We begin with that story.
