"Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character Spider-Man. Produced by Columbia Pictures, Marvel Studios, and Pascal Pictures, and distributed by Sony Pictures Releasing, it is intended to be the 38th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the fourth film in the MCU Spider-Man film series. The film is being directed by Destin Daniel Cretton ("Shang-Chi And The Legend Of The Ten Rings"), written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, and stars Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo. After hitting the reset button on Peter Parker's life following the events of "No Way Home," the film is meant to mark the start of a brand-new trilogy with a different direction, tone, and stage of evolution for Peter Parker and the MCU as a whole. Destin Daniel Cretton was kind enough to spend some time speaking with us following some preview footage about the highly anticipated film, which you can listen to below. Please be sure to check out the film, which will open in theaters on July 31st as part of Phase Six of the MCU. Christopher Nolan does not do anything small, so of course his Odyssey is shot entirely on IMAX film, scored on Bronze Age instruments, and staged with a sixty-foot practical Cyclops in an actual cave full of actual bees. Pete Wright, Tommy Metz III, Ocean Murff, and Steve Sarmento pull up an oar for The Film Board's monthly round-table to figure out what all that machinery is actually in service of — because the surprising thing about The Odyssey isn't the spectacle. It's that Nolan takes Homer's victory lap and turns it into a reckoning.Full spoilers throughout. The board digs into how the film reframes the hero: Matt Damon's Odysseus is a man who's very good at winning and increasingly sick about what winning costs, the Trojan Horse recast from clever trick to war crime, the whole story quietly asking whether "war hero" is a contradiction in terms. They get into Nolan the skeptic making a fantasy — the gods pushed to the psychological margins, Athena reimagined as guilt wearing Zendaya's face — and how a stacked cast (Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, Robert Pattinson as a suitor you will genuinely want dead) grounds all the myth in something human. But the craft you guys… Ludwig Göransson's relentless, orchestra-free score built from gongs and scrap metal; the editing that makes a 172-minute movie move; the new camera Nolan had built and the reels that had to change every three minutes mid-scene. Steve saw it in the pristine 70mm format and comes back a little evangelized. Is a 98% Rotten Tomatoes score is earned or just the Nolan logo doing its work? What is the film is really saying about who we root for in a war? Plus, stick around past the credits for a genuine argument about whether the gods exist in this movie at all.The Film Board is a monthly round-table on new theatrical releases. Christopher Nolan is back with arguably his biggest cinematic epic yet, THE ODYSSEY! Is there a standout performer among the pantheon of stars, which includes Matt Damon as Odysseus, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong'o, Zendaya, Charlize Theron, Elliot Page, Jon Bernthal, Himesh Patel, Mia Goth, Benny Safdie, John Leguizamo, and many more? This week on Gamertag Radio, Last week, Sony Pictures invited me to the Spider-Man: Brand New Day press conference with the cast and filmmakers. Truly grateful for the opportunity. Tom Holland Zendaya Jacob Batalon Sadie Sink Jon Bernthal Director Destin Daniel Cretton Producer Kevin Feige Producer Amy Pascal Here are some of the quotes from the press conference: Tom Holland on Peter's isolation: "Sometimes the bravest thing that you can do is ask for help. And he is actively ignoring that advice, and it is having a profound effect on his life..."Tom Holland on Sadie Sink: "..For me, I think Sadie is an unsung hero because she can't talk about anything, right?"Zendaya on the MJ/Peter dynamic shift: "In previous films MJ was always the pessimist and it was Peter that was always the optimist... Now that he's alone, he's kind of adopted that negativity and she's adopted his positivity without even knowing it."Jon Bernthal on protecting the Punisher: "I think what we set out to do is to make it believable that the Punisher could walk out of one of those TV-MA shows and onto this set and vice versa."Amy Pascal on the true essence of Spider-Man: "...when he is sitting on the floor by the washing machine... looking at the key to the city, which is the thing that's supposed to make him feel good about himself, and this little washing machine in this little apartment and his suit in there spinning around, I thought that is the essence of Spider-Man."Thanks once again to Sony Pictures for giving me the opportunity. I can't wait to check out the film!

Dave & Cody are joined by film professor Paul to review Christopher Nolan's The Odyssey, which just posted the biggest live-action opening of 2026 and the best reviews of Nolan's career. The table digs into Ludwig Göransson's score, the IMAX cinematography, the 60-foot Cyclops puppet, Robert Pattinson's genuinely repulsive heel turn, and John Leguizamo's surprise best-in-career performance. Dave makes the case that softening Odysseus's hubris costs the third act its humility, and lays out a Pastor's Corner connecting the film's Sea Peoples references to the real Bronze Age collapse and what happens to a civilization that loses its faith. Plus a recast, an Argos tribute, and a spirited defense of Taco Bell.SPOILER WARNING: Full spoilers for The Odyssey after the news segment.Movie reviewed: The Odyssey (2026) — Written and directed by Christopher Nolan. The Odyssey Movie Review! Greg Alba shares his out of theater reaction to Christopher Nolan's new mythological epic. Greg breaks down the film's breathtaking practical filmmaking, nonlinear storytelling, Matt Damon's lead performance, and why this ambitious adaptation of Homer's classic left such a lasting impression. Grab your D-BOX tickets here: https://www.cinemark.com/movies/the-o... This massive nonlinear action-adventure follows Odysseus on his perilous journey home after the Trojan War, confronting gods, monsters, war, trauma, and the relentless passage of time while his wife Penelope and son Telemachus struggle to preserve their family and kingdom in Ithaca. In this spoiler-free movie review, Greg discusses Matt Damon's phenomenal lead performance, Christopher Nolan's breathtaking practical filmmaking and real-world locations, the film's surprisingly accessible story, its dense opening act, pulsating score, improved sound mixing, and why the mythology occasionally plays like religious horror on an epic scale. He also shares his thoughts on Tom Holland as Telemachus, Anne Hathaway as Penelope, Robert Pattinson's chilling performance as Antinous, Zendaya's presence as Athena, whether the star-studded ensemble ever becomes distracting, and how the film evolves from an intellectually engaging slow burn into an emotional, unforgettable cinematic experience. If you're a fan of Christopher Nolan movies, Greek mythology, The Odyssey by Homer, IMAX epics, practical filmmaking, historical fantasy, nonlinear storytelling, and powerful stories about family, identity, memory, and the meaning of home, this review is for you. “The biggest risk in motion pictures is to not take a risk. You have to be putting it out there and offering people something new, and that's what will get them out of their houses.”Katie Razzall speaks to Oscar-winning filmmaker Christopher Nolan. The 55-year-old, whose directing credits include Inception, Interstellar and Oppenheimer, is widely considered one of the 21st century's most influential filmmakers.Born in London in 1970, his career began in the mid-1990s, when he would proofread scripts, operate cameras and direct for corporate information films. Barely a decade later, he was chosen to direct Christian Bale as Batman in The Dark Knight trilogy, setting a new standard for how superheroes were portrayed on screen.A string of blockbusters followed, making him one of the highest-grossing directors of all time, and was later knighted in 2024 for his services to film. He's now releasing his latest project, The Odyssey - an ambitious adaptation of Homer's ancient Greek story, starring a Hollywood A-List cast, including Matt Damon, Anne Hathaway and Zendaya.Thank you to the Culture team for their help in making this programme. Joe and Steph celebrate with VMC cocktails, reflect on 8 years of The Foobar Show, and explain why some older episodes have disappeared from platforms over time. No huge blowout, no fake promises — just 400 episodes, a toast, and the usual chaos. The animal kingdom takes over the top of the show: Moo Deng officially turns 2, proving that the internet's favorite pygmy hippo is still the queen of slippery rage, bouncy pork energy, and conservation awareness. Then Neil the Seal finally takes his 2,200-pound chaotic ass back into the ocean after weeks of lounging around Tasmania, blocking roads, flattening signs, and refusing to respect anything vertical.Joe and Steph also explain why the podcast has been spotty lately: life, work, band stuff, Steph's Sunday schedule, and the massive backyard facelift happening because Steph volunteered the house for her brother's baby shower. There's also some Medieval Times talk because sometimes you just need dinner, jousting, horses, and giant beer steins.Geeking Out starts with San Diego Comic-Con: they didn't get badges, of course, but there's still plenty happening outside the convention — themed cafes, Paramount at the Lodge, Hello Kitty, Magic: The Gathering Marvel Super Heroes, Star Trek experiences, and all the badge-free chaos that makes downtown San Diego worth visiting during Comic-Con week. They also hit LA Comic Con tickets going on sale, with the convention returning October 30 through November 1 and guests already including Aaron Paul, Dean Norris, and performers from K-Pop Demon Hunters. Then it's long-awaited movie news: Legend of the White Dragon finally has a release date.
