Vocal Vault is a single-hosted podcast by Emily Johnson. Emily will sit down with new guests every week to talk about their hardships, vulnerabilities, passions, etc.
Emily wraps up season one this week with her second solo episode! This episode is more of a "mini-sode" if you will and she breaks down some housekeeping items and answers questions submitted by her listeners. Emily touches on the topic of burn out at the start of this episode and when you can feel yourself reaching that point. Listening to your intuition and being able to ask yourself "can I give this my best effort right now?" is a great way to gut-check yourself for burn out. Season 2 will launch on Wednesday March 9th! If you have not already hit the follow button and subscribed to this podcast, make sure to do so as we will be taking a month off and this way, you can get a friendly reminder when we launch our next season. Thank you all so much for your support during the launch of the Vocal Vault podcast and the progression along the way! Couldn't do it without all of you listeners!
Emily had the pleasure of interviewing Frankie Villalobos, a fitness and health guru, about his recent ACL surgery and what that recovery process has looked like for him. As someone who is very active in his daily life, this recovery process has been a journey for his physical AND especially, mental health. We also cover:His passion for health and fitness and where it stems fromFrankie's biggest motivators in his life and influencesThe impact of Frankie's dad's death on him and how he moves through the worldHis move from Wisconsin to MinnesotaHow he tore his ACL The support system through ACL recoveryTips for athletes or anyone who has to overcome a physical featVocal Vault Resources: Vocal Vault Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vocalvaultpodcast/Vocal Vault Email: vocalvaultpod@gmail.comFrankie Villalobos Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/__frankieandrew/Sather Audio Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/satheraudio/Sather Audio Email: satheraudio@gmail.comOlivia Garner Design: https://www.oliviagarnerdesign.com/
In this week's episode, Emily got to sit down and chat with Integrative Health Coach and new friend, Vanessa Failor. Vanessa has recently celebrated 5 months of sobriety following her move to Denver, Colorado and she shares her vulnerabilities with her past struggles with addiction. Instantly upon meeting Vanessa, I felt a kindred spirit between us, which made this interview and conversation so enjoyable to have and flowed so seamlessly. She is someone who you can instantly open up to and I think that is a trait you will be able to hear during our episode together as well. Vanessa shares her journey through outpatient therapy, AA and the trials and tribulations that have come along with that. There's so much more to Vanessa's story then just substance abuse. Addiction can manifest itself in many ways and that is one thing we touch on quite a bit in this episode. She is always going to be recovering, but you can feel this woman blooming underneath it all and shedding the title "addict". I hope you enjoy this week's episode! This week, Emily sat down with the owner of Fierce and Flawed, Sabrina Adams. Sabrina and Emily met through their love of fashion at a local women's clothing boutique in the Twin Cities. What started as a blog, soon became a small business for Sabrina. She started her online clothing boutique in 2020 in the midst of a pandemic. Let alone being a new mom at the time, she has created a beautiful community with her brand. We chat about the ins and outs of being a new mom and how to handle that on top of all of her other ventures and passions. Below are the links to find Sabrina's online boutique and ways to contact her as well. This week, Emily sat down with her good friend, Sydney Sperling. Over the years, Emily and Sydney have connected over their similar experiences with relationships, break up and pain. Emily finally shares her experience with her recent breakup and how she has been able to do some self reflection and become the person she wants to be in or out of a romantic relationship. Sydney and Emily then dive into the concept of toxic relationships vs. toxic breakups and how one is not much different than the other. The beautiful thing about their friendship is they have full transparency with each other and aren't afraid to check each other when they may be making excuses and not being the best version of yourself. We truly believe that's what friends are for; holding each other accountable and helping them to be their best self. We rehash some of the hardships we've dealt with in past relationships and the warning signs/red flags that we may not have seen in the moment, but can recognize now. Some of my favorite quotes from this episode: "It's like sex and pizza.""I tend to put a lot more energy into a relationship than into myself.""Let's meet up on Thursday.""If you don't know where to start, start with Google.""This person chose me everyday and then one day they decided to stop choosing me.""I think once you're told something for so long, you start to believe it."Vocal Vault Resources:Vocal Vault Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/vocalvaultpodcast/Vocal Vault Email: vocalvaultpod@gmail.comSydney Sperling Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/syd_sperling/Sather Audio Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/satheraudio/Sather Audio Email: satheraudio@gmail.comOlivia Garner Designs: https://www.oliviagarnerdesign.com/
This week, Emily and her dad, Jeff, sit down to chat about how music runs deep in our blood and how that has shaped our family for generations. Jeff grew up surrounded by music and realized he had the same passion as he got older. He shares his experience about having to make the decision to go from full-time musician to full-time dad. Jeff entered the business realm after his kids were all grown up and realized his passion for science and medicine. Jeff became sick with kidney and liver failure in 2018 and he shares his experiences with hospitalizations, recovery and crazy dreams he had while in the hospital. We take a deep dive into the idea of "un-doing" things that were instilled in us when we were younger and about the generational differences. We hope you enjoy listening along and hearing the family dynamics in this episode! This week, Emily got to sit down with long-time friend, Riley Knudsen. Riley married his husband, Cole, just about a month ago and we got to dive in to Riley's coming out story. He received the utmost support, respect, and love from his family and friends when he came out and he recognizes that he is very lucky to have been supported in that way since many people who come out as gay, bi-sexual, pan-sexual, etc. are not always received with open arms. We talk about the trials and tribulations he faced internally before feeling comfortable enough with himself to come out. There are so many ways to support our friends of the LGBTQ+ community and Riley shares some of those tips in this episode. If you or anyone you know is struggling with coming out to their friends and family or even just struggling internally to find their true self, please reach out. Resources are listed below! Emily sits down with her mom, Mary, and they talk about what life was like for Mary growing up in a small town where everyone knew everyone. We talk about her family life and some skeletons in the closet that she found out about as she grew older. Emily and Mary believe that a lot of anger and violence was more prominent "back in the day" due to a lack in mental health resources. This episode talks about how it was so much easier to sweep things under the rug back then vs now where everything is in the limelight. Hopefully you enjoy this conversation between Emily and her mom!Resources:Follow--->Vocal Vault Podcast: https://www.instagram.com/vocalvaultpodcast/Mary Johnson (Guest): https://www.instagram.com/mkastelicjohnson/Sather Audio: https://www.instagram.com/satheraudio/Olivia Garner Designs: https://www.instagram.com/oliviagarnerdesign/
Emily sits down with the host of the It's Hard podcast, Paige Boner. It's Hard is a top 3 podcast in Minnesota and was recently the cover of the St. Croix Valley magazine. Paige is a Mental Health Advocate and her podcast is centered around the stigma of mental health and advocacy. We touch on Paige's recent move to Utah, starting a new job, and her nephew's recent heart transplant and how that has affected her mental health. She has recently released a workbook centered around creating yourself. Paige believes that life is like a house and that we have to build our foundation first and with that can come the renovations, add-ons, paint jobs, etc. It's a beautiful analogy and this workbook will help you create your own foundation.
