Four experts discuss their practical experiences of migrants' access to services and exclusion from services. Part of the COMPAS Seminar Series: Migrants and welfare states: inclusion or exclusion? he aim of the series is to explore the relationship between the development of welfare states and the framework of entitlements and restrictions for migrants found in entry and settlement criteria, with the second half of the series focusing on the implications of welfare state inclusion or exclusion for the economic, social and civic participation of migrants.

Professor Nick Pidgeon gives a talk for the Uncertainty, Risk and Decision Making seminar series. Events of the past 3 years - from volcanic ash, to climate change e-mails, to Fukushima - have brought home the importance of both handling and communicating environmental risks for both the public and for policy purposes. This talk will ask what we know about types of environmental uncertainty, and their significance and impacts for both policy decisions and communication with the public. I argue that despite longstanding evidence and research findings from the environmental social sciences there is little appreciable progress in the UK as elsewhere on the necessary strategic approach to supporting policy decisions and communicating uncertainty. Such an approach would combine 'strategic listening' with 'strategic organisation'. The forms of boundary organisation that might be needed to take up these tasks are also discussed.

Själv har han accepterat sin rädsla men det begränsar familjelivet eftersom de aldrig kan resa längre än kortare sträckor tillsammans. Så vad ska Love göra för att komma vidare? Ett Vattenfall fritt från utsläpp? Alla svenskars eget elbolag, statliga energijätten Vattenfall med större klimatutsläpp än hela Sverige, har lovat att bli klimatneutrala till år 2050. Vindkraft och biobränslen ska fixa en del, men det finns i dagsläget inga planer på att sälja av alla kolkraftverken i Tyskland. Istället ska koldioxidavskiljning och lagring med CCS-teknik klara det mesta av klimatutsläppen. Samtidigt har Vattenfall skrinlagt vidare investeringar i försöksanläggningar på grund av protester mot tekniken. Är det realistiskt att CCS-teknik löser bolagets utsläppsbekymmer framöver och hur vill politikerna ha det? Klotet fortsätter granska kolkraften i världen, bland annat risken för att fler länder än Sydafrika börjar göra bensin av kol.
