In June of 2021, the Methodist Church in the UK voted to allow same-sex marriages and adopted other sweeping changes in the area of marriage and human sexuality. In this episode Rev. Dr. David Hull, President of Methodist Evangelicals Together, an evangelical renewal group in the Methodist Church, describes the impact of the decision on the "mother Church" of Methodism and how evangelicals in Great Britain are responding. He provides insight and encouragement for Methodists around the world to continue to "spread Scriptural holiness across the land" as some churches and cultures move away from orthodox Christian faith and teaching.  Visit the Methodist Evangelicals Together website. David references Carl Trueman's book The Rise and Triumph of the Modern Self Learn more about the Wesleyan Covenant Association at our website. My guest this week is Trey Hall, Director of Evangelism and Growth for the British Methodist Church and the other co-founder of Urban Village Church. Urban Village celebrates its 10th birthday on March 28 and so I thought it would be fun to have Trey on not only to share about his own personal story and journey but for us to do a little reminiscing about the last 10 years. All this, plus Trey talks about his current position and the state of the church in Great Britain.    To find that web site that Trey mentioned, go here and you can go here, which will take you directly to the Evangelism and Growth section and that includes a nice video of Trey.

Travis’ latest book, From the Steeple to the Street, is about fresh expressions of church. He and his wife, Keri, have three children and a growing number of grandchildren. FBC Hunstville Fresh Expressions: https://freshexpressionsus.org/   Fresh Expressions is an international movement of missionary disciples cultivating new kinds of church alongside existing congregations to more effectively engage our growing post-Christian society. Beginning in 2004 as an initiative of the Church of England and the British Methodist Church, the movement has resulted in the birth of thousands of new communities in the UK alone and brought renewal to scores of established churches. The movement has spread to Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and Germany. In 2010, the movement began taking shape in the US through the vision and generosity of the Baptist General Association of Virginia and a growing number of partners committed to a new era of missional ecumenism, a unity around the mission of God the Father through the resurrected Son in the power of the Holy Spirit. Kara Cooper is the Chaplain for Lancaster University in Lancashire, England.  Kara and I graduated together from Duke in 2002.  The year after that we both accepted an appointment in the British Methodist Church.  Kara hasn't come back to the United States but is now an ordained clergy of the British Methodist Church and a British citizen.   Doing ministry overseas is an art.  In a more secular society with a national church, it is a lot different than ministry here in the "colonies."  Yet, it proves to be a great place to experience God still at work in the lives of people.  Kara shares some of her stories and experiences as the follower of Jesus who talks a little funny.
