Also today's sponsor is Indeed.com/Standup Bob Saget and I go way back and I was really happy to have him join me. He is one of the best of all time. Listen to his podcast and see him live. Here is is official bio: Yes, Bob Saget has starred in many successful television shows, including two of the most family-friendly shows network TV has ever produced (Full House and Americas Funniest Home Videos) but he's also an out of his mind, Grammy-nominated standup comedian for over thirty years. From his latest Amazon special, Zero to Sixty, to his HBO special That Ain't Right to his scene-stealing cameos in Entourage, and The Aristocrats, it's always effective as Saget embraces his mischievous side. From directing MGM's cult favorite feature film Dirty Work, to directing and producing the highly acclaimed ABC television movie, For Hope, to starring in the critically acclaimed, Paul Weitz off-Broadway play, Privilege, to starring on Broadway in the Tony Award winning The Drowsy Chaperone, Bob Saget shows no signs of stopping. Ever. In 2007 came the hugely successful DVD release of Farce of the Penguins, an R-rated comedy/documentary/love story, that he voiced-over, wrote, directed, and produced, with producer David Permut. And then came the hit NBC quiz show 1 VS 100, where Bob ad-libbed his way through the one-hour prime time format. In 2008, The Comedy Central Roast of Bob Saget premiered to the second highest ratings of all TV that night, second only to the Olympics. For many years now, Bob has been a proud board member of the Scleroderma Research Foundation. He co-produces and hosts "Cool Comedy Hot Cuisine" fundraising events in Los Angeles, New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco. To date, they have raised over 53 million dollars for the SRF going directly to research to cure this disease. Bob was seen several times reprising the role of “Himself” on HBO's hit series Entourage as well as a cameo in the film. He also starred in his own documentary comedy series for A&E titled, Strange Days with Bob Saget, an exploration of unusual subcultures in America. In 2014, Bob completed his first Australian theater tour visiting Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth. Bob continued touring, playing to sold out audiences in theaters and universities across North America and in 2012 he hosted the Montreal Comedy Festival's first live 90 minute JFL XXX TV show which continues to air across Canada on The Movie Network. His 2013 one-hour stand-up special, That's What I'm Talkin' About, was nominated for a 2014 Grammy Award for Best Comedy Album. The special was filmed at The Moore Theatre in Seattle, premiered on Showtime in May 2013 and is now available on multiple platforms, both as a comedy album and special. Bob's first book is a New York Times Best Seller - DIRTY DADDY was released on April 8, 2014 to critical acclaim with Vanity Fair calling it, “Hilarious and at times heartbreaking.” The book is also available as an audio book, recorded by Bob. In January 2016, Bob finished a very fulfilling and successful 9-week run on Broadway in the Tony-nominated play, Hand To God, playing the part of a Lutheran minister, Pastor Greg. That year he also co-starred in the film, A Stand Up Guy and began his six season run on the hit Netflix series, Fuller House which ended shooting in 2020. In 2018, Bob made his London performance debut at the Leicester Square Theatre, and can't wait to return to perform there when the times allow. Bob's newest hour-long stand-up special, Zero To Sixty, was shot in Brooklyn at The Williamsburg Hall of Music in May 2017. Zero To Sixty premiered worldwide on November 14, 2017 on multiple digital platforms including Amazon Prime, iTunes, Comcast, DirecTV, and many others. It's also available as a comedy album including vinyl LPs as well as streaming and downloads for all forms. On April 23, 2019, Bob's independent film, Benjamin, was released as the first Redbox Original release and it is also available on many streaming platforms. Bob directed and starred with an amazing ensemble cast: Rob Corddry, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Kevin Pollak, Cheri Oteri, Dave Foley, Max Burkholder, Clara Mamet, David Hull, Jonny Weston, and Peri Gilpin. The film was produced by Nicholas Tabarrok. In this original dark comedy, Ed (Bob Saget), reluctantly calls together an oddball assortment of friends and family to intervene on the supposed drug habit of his 15-year-old son, Benjamin (Max Burkholder). What quickly follows is a night of finger-pointing, petty thievery, adulterous backstabbing, and a seesaw of crooked emotional revelations — all leading to the misguided but sincere attempt to heal this dysfunctional family. In 2019, Bob hosted the new CMT TV series, Nashville Squares.. On April 20, 2020, Bob launched his podcast, Bob Saget's Here For You, now at 100 episodes, featuring Bob's one of a kind stream of consciousness storytelling and real and honest conversations with amazing guests, including: Tiffany Haddish, Jason Sudeikis, Whoopi Goldberg, Norman Lear, Regina Hall, Bill Burr, John Mayer, Candace Cameron Bure, Cedric the Entertainer, John Stamos, Jake Tapper, Nikki Glaser, Jon Hamm and Bob Newhart. Last fall, Bob performed at Dave Chappelle's Summer Camp, which he just did again in May, 2021, appeared on the hit Fox TV show I Can See Your Voice, and performed as Squiggly Monster on The Masked Singer. Bob just wrapped shooting the dark comedy film, Blue Iguana, in the Cayman Islands, alongside Joel David Moore, Jason Jones, Carly Chaikin, Mary Lynn Rajskub, Chantel Riley, and Iggy Pop. It was directed by Jeremey LaLonde and Produced by Nicholas Tabarrok. The story involves a dying man (Pop) who will leave his entitled children his fortune only if they can spend the weekend together in his Cayman Islands home. They end up trying to murder one of their siblings in order to get his share of the fortune. Bob is overjoyed to be back on his stand-up tour with a new hour plus of material with dates scheduled all over North America, happening right now. June 9, 2021 — A proposed development in the Western Hills of Ukiah has neighbors fuming as the city takes steps to acquire and annex about 700 acres off of Redwood Avenue, in the headwaters of Doolan Creek. The property currently belongs to David Hull, who gave the city 188 acres adjacent to the proposed project parcels late last year. The city wants to break 54 acres into seven lots for single family residential parcels, where owners would be allowed to build one main house and one additional dwelling unit each. According to city documents, no purchasers have been identified and the timing of the sale and development of the properties is unknown. The remaining 640 acres would be rezoned public facilities, which is the same designation used for city parks. The property is still on county land, and the project would need to go through Ukiah's planning commission and City Council before the city could even start the annexation process, which could take a year. But last month, when the item was scheduled to come before the planning commission, thirty-eight letters came in, only three of them supporting the project. A few others, from agency representatives, offered analyses of what would be needed to carry out the proposal, but most expressed opposition on the grounds of increased traffic, fire risk, and impacts to wildlife. Ted Aff is a retired Oakland firefighter who remembers fighting the Oakland Hills firestorm of 1991, before wind-driven blazes that jumped over freeways had become a way of life in California. Aff and other members of the Firesafe Council are worried because the homes would be on the wrong side of a firebreak meant to protect the city from fires coming in from the west. But Maya Simerson, a project administrator in the city manager's office, says that's been vetted with CalFire, the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority, and the city fire marshall. She also said that homeowners would have to maintain the properties according to fire code and the rules of a homeowners association. Retired CalFire battalion chief Michael Maynard, who was responsible for local fuel reduction efforts in the last ten years, wrote a letter saying he thinks acquiring the Hull Properties would reduce the risk of catastrophic fire in the Ukiah Valley. Aff said he and the retired chief have “a different assessment” of the situation, adding that he does “not underestimate the lethality of fire.” Another supportive letter was from a real estate agent who reminded the commission that the hospital is always trying to recruit doctors who go to “other areas with a larger inventory of homes.” An opposing letter writer declared that single-family homes are “so last century.” And Aff thinks a lot of work is going into building a few homes for rich people. “The views are spectacular,” he said. “Oddly enough, they characterize these properties as moderate income properties. So either their scale of what moderate income is, is far different than mine, or they're downplaying the value in order to fit in with the city's general plan, which requires a certain number of moderate income houses.” Simerson says she thinks the developer would build on the land even if it stayed in the county, and the city didn't get involved; and that the city is the best agency to take the lead in the project.

Dr. David Hull says we learn two things about Jesus in the final verses of Matthew 11—first, God welcomes us, invites us, to come to Jesus. Second, God guides us, which involves being yoked with Jesus and following him.

Crazy Ex-GirlFans: Your Internet Gabfest About Crazy Ex-Girlfriend
Nipsey Hussle, who CXG fans will remember from season 1's "Sexy Getting Ready Song," was tragically killed earlier this week. He was a beacon of art, culture, and commitment to his community. He donated his time, talent and treasure to supporting his local neighborhood in in south Los Angeles. We invite you to consider donating to organizations he supported, such as Vector 90, Too Big to Fail, and Destination Crenshaw. Or, consider donating to an organization supporting STEM education and programming for inner-city youth in your own city or nearest urban area. Suzanne, Amber and Tonya break bread and break down the penultimate episode of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, "I Have A Date." Where did Paula find that chic chartreuse shirt? Dress Barn? What if love isn't a game? Who bet their rowing machine on the dates? What is George's life worth? Is this really the end? As promised in our episode discussion: June, getting in trouble and literally facing the corner. (I know the orientation is wrong. After 20 minutes, I gave up. Just turn your device.) Henry, trying to slide into Suzanne's hosting chair. We answer your questions, award our Giant Pretzels of the week, and give our self-care recommendations for staying healthy and decidedly more Bunch-like. SONGS: Love's Not A Game (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger, performed by David Hull and Cast) There's No Bathroom (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger, performed by Weird Al Yankovic) Love's Not A Game (reprise) (Rachel Bloom, Jack Dolgen and Adam Schlesinger, performed by Rachel Bloom)
Actor DAVID HULL (Crazy Ex Girlfriend, The Body) was not exposed to cryptids or ghosts growing up... but that doesn’t mean he’s not open to seeing some insane paranormal activity. In this episode the guys explore stories of static creatures, the wonders of psychedelics, and the legend of Batsquatch! BCC is produced by Riley Bray. “Big boys, the story in this little book is told for you.” Thus begins the preface to Zhang Tianyi’s The Pidgin Warrior (Balestier Press, 2017), as translated by the wonderful David Hull. Not just for boys (big or small), The Pidgin Warrior is a moving, hilarious novel set in 1930s Shanghai during wartime. Hull’s translation is a sensitive and humane rendering of characters that are by turns laughable and heartbreaking, coming together in a story about what it is to be a hero – or just to be a functional human being – in times of personal and social upheaval. As you’ll hear me say on the podcast, I actually **put down the most recent climactic issues of the Saga comic book** because the story here was so gripping. That’s to say: this is not just going to be a great book to teach and learn with. It’s also a gripping and fascinatingly rendered story in its own right. In this podcast, Hull and I continued some of the conversation about translation and its joys and challenges that we started in our previous podcast about his translation of Mao Dun’s Waverings, and I recommend checking that one out as well! David Hull ("White Josh" on Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) walks us through his journey from theme park performer, to Broadway chorus boy, to TV series regular. After finding success in the ensemble on Broadway, David made a decision to focus on straight plays and wound up in the LA premiere of Vanya, Sonia, Masha and Spike, which opened him up to the LA TV scene. David has become a fierce advocate for LA public transportation and assures Rory he will find him most efficient route to get him to the Pantages when Hamilton arrives in LA!
This installment of Roadie Free Radio is coming to you straight from the sound studio of long time Rock 'n Roll veteran, Charlie Karp. A man who has been through it all, Charlie landed his first big gig at the tender age of 16, thanks to a chance encounter at the Filmore East. That fateful night would introduce Karp to Buddy Miles. Charlie would go on to tour, write, and record for Miles over a period of two years. Did we mention all of this happened before his 20th birthday? After leaving Miles, Karp went on to form White Chocolate with longtime friend David Hull on the bass. It was after the band reformed under the name The Dirty Angels and gained greater success with Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye that they were able to play with Aerosmith on the Double Live Bootleg Tour. The decades that followed would bring countless other projects his way. He has written songs for the likes of Joan Jett and Joe Perry, and also has the credit of producing one of Rocks great bands, Ram Jam, of Black Betty fame . Additionally Karp is an EMMY award-winning music producer for various sports networks and documentaries. After all of this time you can still find Charlie playing at local venues with he and Danny Kortchmar’s band, Slo Leak and the Name Droppers. One of my favorite parts about watching this guy perform, is the ear to ear grin that shows he is still having just as much fun playing as he did over 50 years ago.
David Hull‘s new translation of Mao Dun’s Waverings (Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2014)(Research Centre for Translation, Chinese University of Hong Kong, 2014) is both a beautiful literary work and a boon for scholars and teachers working in the field of modern Chinese studies. Waverings is the second work in the Eclipse trilogy, three books that were published serially in The Short Story Magazine beginning in 1927. These are the first works of fiction written by Shen Yanbing, the man who would later take on the pseudonym Mao Dun. Waverings offers readers a perspective on the 1926-1927 revolution – and problems of labor and women’s rights therein – but that perspective shifts depending on which version of the text that the reader encounters: while the first version was written very quickly in 1927 while the author was in hiding in Shanghai, another 1954 revision of the text is, in many ways, quite different. In his prefatory remarks, Hull thoughtfully reflects on how to navigate this and other challenges for the modern translator. Hull’s translation beautifully renders the powerful illusions and visions that recur throughout the story, and movingly give life to some extraordinarily powerful fictional characters. It’s a boon for lovers of stories, for teachers, and for scholars of the modern world. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
