One man is trying to revolutionize the goalie cage. Surjan Singh joins to discuss his project to help goalies be able to have a clearer view of the ice with his new goalie cage. We learn about his idea and where it came from and how he has worked to develop and test his idea. We talk about his trip to San Jose and working with Evgeni Nabokov, James Reimer, and Aaron Dell to get feedback on his invention (10:00). Then we finish our conversation with some Ducks Sharks talk and the return of (good) California hockey (16:00). Check out the podcast on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. As the Finals matchup that everybody saw coming gets underway, so too does the Ducks/Sharks offseason! This week, Joey and Penn discuss Ryan Kesler’s rehab, some coaching changes to the Ducks, and Evander Kane’s new contract before disappearing down the Dany Heatley rabbit hole (not a euphemism, I swear.) -Intro: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dave_Depper/Compositions_3/Sportsreel -Outro: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dave_Depper/Compositions_3/Swagger_1 -You can contact us at OffTheCoastHockey@gmail.com or at https://www.facebook.com/OffTheCoastPod if you want to send in questions, topics you want covered, or just write nonsensical manifestos that we’ll probably read anyway. -Listen on stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/cahockeytalk/california-hockey-talk?refid=stpr -Or find us on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/california-hockey-talk/id1135318109?mt=2
TSN Hockey Insider and The Athletic's Pierre LeBrun says most people saw the Ducks-Sharks series as a coin-flip and it's shocking to see how one-sided it's been for the Sharks. Pierre says a sweep would be tough to stomach for the Ducks but adds, it's a minor miracle they finished second in the division with all their injuries throughout the year.
Joey is skeptical of Penn’s rantings and ravings about NCAA prospects, but we agree on a proposed change to the game involving in game substitutes rather than healthy scratches. Also discussed: Scott Foster Accounting Extraordinaire, the quotidienne nature of Crosby’s amazing goals, and the Ducks/Sharks games down the stretch. -Intro: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dave_Depper/Compositions_3/Sportsreel -Outro: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dave_Depper/Compositions_3/Swagger_1 -You can contact us at OffTheCoastHockey@gmail.com or at https://www.facebook.com/OffTheCoastPod if you want to send in questions, topics you want covered, or just write nonsensical manifestos that we’ll probably read anyway. -Listen on stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/cahockeytalk/california-hockey-talk?refid=stpr -Or find us on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/california-hockey-talk/id1135318109?mt=2
On this episode, Penn and Joey finally have some substantial Ducks/Sharks news to talk about, Penn revels in the fact that the Vesey saga is over, and Joey doesn’t like Penn’s mouthnoises. Because it’s a short episode, the hosts also stuck around and blathered about Joey’s new employment with [COMPANY REDACTED] and other stuff. Feel free to skip it. You won’t hurt our feelings. -Intro: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dave_Depper/Compositions_3/Sportsreel -Outro: http://freemusicarchive.org/music/Dave_Depper/Compositions_3/Swagger_1 -You can contact us at cahockeytalk@gmail.com if you want to send in questions, topics you want covered, or just write nonsensical manifestos that we’ll probably read anyway. -Listen on stitcher: http://www.stitcher.com/podcast/cahockeytalk/california-hockey-talk?refid=stpr -Or find us on iTunes: https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/california-hockey-talk/id1135318109?mt=2 - The Vesey saga is over for now: http://www.nytimes.com/2016/08/20/sports/hockey/ny-rangers-sign-jimmy-vesey.html?_r=0 - Interesting rumor pertaining to the prospective new goalie gear: https://mobile.twitter.com/Lyle_Gillen/status/765284186647302144?p=v -Robin Lehner shows us his mad dog face: http://i.imgur.com/Pyj9Aeh.jpg -Bettman’s stance on advertisements on jerseys: https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-commissioner-gary-bettman-says-ads-on-world-cup-jerseys-a-possibility/c-751077 -Sometimes ads on jerseys aren’t always terrible: http://bit.ly/2bKjapa But they usually are. - Details surrounding the technology that will be used on a trial basis during the Hockey World Cup: https://www.nhl.com/news/nhl-to-use-player-puck-tracking-at-world-cup/c-281359780 -Both the Sharks and Ducks will be participating in a rookie showcase in Colorado: http://www.denverpost.com/2016/08/12/avalanche-sharks-ducks-rookie-showcase/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+dp-sports-avalanche+%28Denver+Post%3A+Sports%3A+Avalanche%29
