On this episode of Fishing Friday Live, Ben and Pete hold it down while Trey's off in the Great White North chasing smallmouth. The guys break down this year's ICAST – what stood out, what flopped, and why innovation in the fishing world feels stale. They also tackle the drama surrounding Logan Latusso's DQ from the Bassmaster Elite Series—fair or flawed? And for the first time on the show, they have their most honest, in-depth discussion yet about forward-facing sonar—how it's changed fishing, and why their opinions are shifting. From flooded lakes and trolling motor debates to heartbreaking local boating tragedies, this episode is packed with real talk, gear insights, and what's really happening on and off the water.

Hello again Fighty Friends! HAPPY SUMMER!Today I got to sit and chat with not only one of the best fighters from Canada, but someone I have a LOOOONG (and good!) history with - SANDRA BASTIAN!right out of the gate we talk about retiring from the fight life and having to find life after fighting (youngins - we keep bringing this topic up on many podcasts - PAY ATTENTION!) which lead to Sandra leaving Alberta for BC and eventually opening up a gym - HEART & SOUL MUAY THAI - and into promoting events - INFANITE MUAY THAI SERIES - on Vancouver Island. OF COURSE I get her to tells us all the titles and championships Sandra has won including best female fighter at IFMA (what?!?!), winning world titles, European titles and North American titles to name a few. It was awesome breaking down the timeline from first class visit to what's happening in Sandra's Muay Thai life now - it's really cool and a privilege to watch the journey come full circle for Sandra!I get to ask Sandra some fan questions and questions I have always been curious about. ALSO, Sandra and myself started our Muay Thai journey at a similar time in the same gym - although different stages in life - so we talk about how and where we started, WHICH GOT ME A LITTLE EMOTIONAL! it just all hit me at once that we were different people than which was a lifetime ago, but yet feels like yesterday, mixed with everything we have done with Muay Thai since - PROUDLY! My martial arts history is important to me and the lessons I learned (and received lol) really have molded me and I hold those lessons close.Sandra, didn't chase titles, fame, recognition or accolades. She did it because it fun and she enjoyed it, SIMPLE! and to be honest I found it a little refreshing. What a great chat with a great fighter from the Great White North! it was special to go down memory lane and catch up what we have been doing after so many years. SHOUT OUT TO YOU SANDRA!

Canada and the United States may not face each other yet in Gold Cup competition, but the North and Great White North will still face each other. FC Cincinnati tries to make it a winning streak against CF Montréal this Wednesday evening. The last time the Orange & Blue traveled to Stade Saputo, they came back with a 2-1 loss, but some distant Orellano magic quelled any thoughts of an away win later on. The first half of the season has been a struggle for Le CFM, but some hope still exists. We talk with Justine from the 1642 MTL supporters' group to get her thoughts on the "buy low, sell high" strategy and the coaching change early in the season. The directorial debut of Walt Becker and the first feature by the writing team of Brent Goldberg and David T. Wagner, National Lampoon's Van Wilder (aka Van Wilder: Party Liaison). Unfortunately, instead they stumble on a Shakespearian family drama and the plot of a power mad brewmeister. Can the brothers save the unsuspecting Canadian populace? This week, we are trapped inside and beset by unnameable horrors in a dark corner of the Great White North. Sammy from the Gentlemen's Guide to Midnite Cinema pops in to discuss Pontypool (2008), directed by Bruce McDonald, followed by the notorious SOV act of lunacy, Things (1989), directed (if that's what you can call it?) by Andrew Jordan. As well as pondering the profound cultural influence of language as a thing in and of itself, we also tackle some other philosophical questions such as: The possibly Saxon origins of the word, "fart". Kettle or urn, which is better? And just what the hell does "no cap" mean? It's not really possible to spoil Things (because it's not really possible to understand the plot, assuming there is one), but we will call out Spoiler Territory for Pontypool. If you want to skip ahead from that point, you can rejoin the conversation at the 1:33:23 mark to avoid spoilers. Want to get in touch? What do you get when you mix industrial noise, international mystery, and a whole lot of polite complaining? That's right — The Windsor Hum.This week we dive ears-first into one of the weirdest and most persistent sonic mysteries in the Great White North. Since the early 2010s, folks in Windsor, Ontario, have been plagued by a low, rumbling sound that won't go away. It's not your fridge. It's not your neighbour's subwoofer. The modeling community comes alive in this episode as Mike and Kentucky Dave return from Heritage Con at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum, where connections proved even more valuable than the contests and vendors. Their journey to the Great White North yielded far more than just additions to their stash – it rekindled that irreplaceable modeling spirit that comes from face-to-face interactions with fellow enthusiasts. Listeners will discover the power of in-person events as our hosts share how meeting podcast fans, spending time with friends, and seeing exceptional models on display has energized their passion for the hobby. From their strategic approach to travel (stopping at Michigan Toy Soldier en route) to reuniting with familiar faces and meeting new ones, the episode captures what makes the modeling community special. The mailbag segment addresses fascinating questions about tweezers (with recommendations beyond the hobby world), the ongoing "scale wars" debate, and creative organization methods from listeners worldwide. These practical discussions showcase how modelers continue to refine their craft through shared wisdomA special treat arrives with the return of the "Wheel of Accidental Wisdom" featuring guest Ed Baroth. This lively segment tackles everything from household items repurposed for modeling to productivity hacks and how the hobby has transformed over decades. Ed's perspective as an experienced modeler adds depth to conversations about batch building, nostalgia kits, lost parts, and the technological advances that have revolutionized scale modeling.Between bench updates, modeling fluid reviews of Canadian craft beers and whiskey, and heartfelt shoutouts to the people who make the hobby special, this episode reminds us why we build: for the joy of creation, certainly, but equally for the community that surrounds us. Whether you're a longtime builder or just starting your modeling journey, you'll find yourself nodding along as Mike and Dave celebrate what truly matters – the connections we forge through our shared passion.Cole-Palmer (Lab Supplier)Timber Woods Scale Models (Listener YouTube Model Paint SolutionsYour source for Harder & Steenbeck Airbrushes and David Union Power ToolsSQUADRON Adding to the stash since 1968Model PodcastsPlease check out the other pods in the modelsphere!PMM Merchandise StoreSupport the show with PMM Merchandise!Disclaimer: This post contains affiliate links. This week, we thought it would be timely to retrieve this episode from our archives. A Brand Envy episode in celebration of Canadian brands. We'll look at what may be the most successful global retailer Canada has ever built, a television pioneer worshipped and revered by generations of Canadians and a world-class brand that operates out of the smallest village in New Brunswick. We've certainly bred some amazing brands up here in the Great White North. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
