The episode briefly mentions the conclusion of the Donna Adelson trial on September 4th before delving into Proctor's case. Proctor, the lead investigator in the Karen Reed case, was fired after the first trial due to misconduct. His administrative hearing aims to determine if his termination was justified. The Massachusetts State Police must prove his misconduct warranted termination, after which Proctor can argue for a lesser disciplinary action. The State Police attorney used strong terms like "distasteful," "unprofessional," and "disgusting" to describe Proctor's actions. The charges include: sending derogatory texts about Karen Reed, sharing confidential investigative information with non-law enforcement individuals, engaging in unprofessional conduct that harmed the State Police's reputation, and drinking alcohol on duty while operating a department vehicle. The last charge, though unrelated to the Karen Reed case, was uncovered through his text messages. The State Police presented 36 exhibits, including Proctor's own trial testimony where he admitted to his actions.Proctor's attorney is delaying his full defense until October, citing a lack of discovery from the State Police. He argues that prior to February 2024 (when his texts were discovered), Proctor was an "exemplary" 12-year veteran with no disciplinary record. The defense intends to focus on the texts as "personal things" that shouldn't lead to job loss, despite the irony of the State Police withholding discovery. What started as a getaway to Florida for one Virginia businessman ended in drunken tragedy for two men after hitchhikers were introduced to the equation. A rolling party, complete with drugs and debauchery turned fatal and the trip to The Sunshine State was traded for a trip to South Carolina's Death Row.

We just spent a wonderful five days in Flagstaff, Arizona, and things were beautiful, including the weather. I was so excited to escape the Florida heat, pack up the van, and take the dogs out on some beautiful hikes. But the second we rolled in, the altitude made itself known. I was winded just walking to the trailhead, and the dogs looked at me like, what's your problem, mom? Even the bag of chips I brought along puffed up like it was ready to pop, which cracked me up because it felt like the universe was saying, “yep, everything's under pressure up here.” Instead of charging ahead like I planned, I had to back off. We took shorter hikes, stopped more often, and drank water like it was our full-time job. I had this vision of big adventure days, but once I stopped fighting it, I noticed the little things. One pup, Trooper, bounding over rocks like a champ, the other, Cali, carefully navigating her way around them, and me realizing maybe I don't always have to be in go-mode to enjoy myself. Slowing down wasn't what I pictured, but it actually made the trip better. That's what today's Wise Walk is about. It's those times when life forces you to downshift, and how the pause can end up being exactly what you needed all along. Where in your life are you experiencing high intensity times? Are you juggling so much that you're just trying not to drop anything? When you're in go-mode, are you remembering to retreat and rest? Are you giving your body time to adjust instead of pushing through? Where are you pushing yourself harder than feels sustainable? What does it look like for you to take a reprieve from demands? How can you create moments of stillness to check in with yourself? Are you nurturing your heart, mind, body, and spirit with what they need? Are you remembering that high intensity modes are temporary? Where can you build in time to rest and restore before the next push? Are you aware when you've slipped into high intensity mode? Can you pause long enough to say, “this is not sustainable”? What helps you balance intensity with stillness? How do you allow yourself to recharge after a big effort? What practices help you feel grounded in the middle of chaos? Where in your life can you retreat or slow down right now? What shifts when you notice your surroundings with fresh eyes? How can you meander without purpose and still find perspective? Where have you gained clarity by stepping back? How can you apply that clarity the next time intensity rises? As always, I would love to hear what you took away from today's episode, so please feel free to reach out, and then I look forward to next Thursday's Wise Walk, so be sure to tune in, share this episode if it resonates with you, and until then, please be sure to prioritize fun as you read the signs, direct your path, and get your Stride On. In this episode: [03:27] Previously I talked about flying into Reno to visit some friends in Tahoe, California, and I forgot about the elevation differences, and I did get altitude sickness on that trip. [04:10] Our bodies have to adjust. Everything has to adjust from the dogs to my bag of potato chips. [05:18] We allowed time to hydrate and let our bodies adjust. We didn't push ourselves to a point of exertion that would make us sick. [06:11] In those high intensity moments, it's hard to know the internal needs of our own bodies, minds, and hearts. [07:34] The dogs and I had a magical time in Flagstaff, Arizona. We did some intense hiking and then slept hard. [08:49] Periods of exertion are healthy. [11:12] I also saw this idea come to life driving from Flagstaff, Arizona to Sedona, Arizona. There were swerving roads and hills and driving was a high intensity moment. [13:50] Life is like that when you have those high intensity moments. I was gripping the wheel and then when I got to the other side I could just breathe. [14:39] High intensity moments are just life, and I need to balance them out with time to decompress. [15:58] This awareness has reminded me that I need to create space to get out of my own environment. [17:11] On my trip to Ireland, I was able to get out of my environment, and it's the same for this trip. [19:39] The other big gift this trip has given me is perspective from seeing the contrast in my life from intense to recovery. Memorable Quotes: “We can do high intensity as long as we balance that with some downtime, some downshifting, some restorative time.” - Mary Tess “We don't have to live in go-mode all the time. Downshifting is how we keep moving forward with joy.” - Mary Tess “Rest doesn't mean you're falling behind. It means you're preparing for the next climb.” - Mary Tess Links and Resources: Mary Tess Rooney Email Heart Value Facebook | LinkedIn | Twitter | Instagram

Six veteran law enforcement officers break their silence about encounters that challenged everything they thought they knew about the wilderness they patrol. From a deputy sheriff responding to escalating wildlife complaints at a remote Washington property, to a state trooper whose routine traffic stop on a foggy Kentucky highway became anything but ordinary, these firsthand accounts reveal what happens when those sworn to serve and protect come face to face with something that shouldn't exist.Travel across America through the eyes of the officers who documented the evidence that was later buried in bureaucracy. A park ranger's search and rescue operation in Northern California that uncovered more than missing hikers. A Michigan deputy's investigation into vandalism at abandoned copper mines that led deep underground. An Alaska state trooper's encounter on the desolate Dalton Highway where something survived impossible Arctic conditions. A Texas deputy's missing person case in the Big Thicket that ended with an inexplicable recovery. These aren't campfire tales or local legends. These are detailed accounts from trained observers who filed reports, collected evidence, and photographed proof of something living in the forgotten corners of America. Something that walks upright, demonstrates intelligence, and has learned to avoid human contact while dwelling in the spaces between our world and one far older.Their badges couldn't protect them from the truth. Now they share what really lurks in the backwoods of America.Get Our FREE NewsletterGet Brian's Books Leave Us A VoicemailVisit Our WebsiteSupport Our SponsorsBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/sasquatch-odyssey--4839697/support.

Watch the full coverage of the live stream on The Emily D. Baker YouTube channel: https://youtube.com/live/NZXF2GjEDGA The Commonwealth of Massachusetts is in a difficult position regarding Former Trooper Proctor's federal discovery. While federal discovery was provided in the Karen Read case, a protective order limits its use. Defense attorneys in other cases argue for access to this information, as Trooper Proctor was a lead investigator. The Commonwealth has been negotiating with the US Attorney's Office to modify the protective order. The motion for modification also seeks permission for the Norfolk District Attorney's Office to review remaining confidential materials provided to the prosecution and defense teams in the Karen Read case. The Commonwealth has made headway with the feds to review additional discovery materials, including grand jury and non-grand jury materials, which they have not yet seen. These materials were not part of the discovery turned over in the Karen Read case, suggesting they might be separate investigations. For the new grand jury and non-grand jury materials, the Commonwealth will first review them to determine if they need to be disclosed. Then, the federal court will decide if these materials can be turned over, potentially with an additional protective order. A future hearing on discovery process is scheduled for August 28th, 2025, at 2 p.m. ET. The Brian Walshe case is moving forward to trial in October 2025; highlighting the urgency of receiving discovery and rulings on motions to dismiss to prepare for trial. Finally, Trooper Calderon will tell us how to be good, defensive drivers in the midst of inattentive motorists.

He was fired in March after an internal investigation sustained allegations of misconduct, including derogatory text messages, sharing information outside the department, and drinking alcohol on duty.Proctor has civil service protections in his job, and his appeal is being supported and paid for by the police union. The union's involvement may also be to prevent his termination from setting a precedent for other officers. Proctor stated in an interview that he wants his job back, claiming that "no one's ever fired for personal texts."A procedural hearing for his appeal was held virtually on Tuesday as part of his appeal to the state's Civil Service Commission, an independent body that handles issues of state and local worker discipline. State Police requested the hearing be made public, which some see as a step towards transparency. A full in-person hearing is scheduled for mid-August.During the procedural hearing, lawyers for Proctor and the State Police indicated they had reached an agreement regarding evidence discovery, although it might take longer than anticipated. Proctor remains certified as an officer in Massachusetts, even without a law enforcement agency. The Karen Read case has also led to other changes within the Massachusetts State Police, including the reassignment of Proctor's supervisor, Yuri Bukhenik, and the relocation of another trooper involved in the case, David DiCicco. The Civil Service Commission will ultimately decide whether Trooper Proctor will get his job back.RESOURCESNBC 10 Boston Reporting - https://www.nbcboston.com/news/local/michael-proctor-mass-state-police-appeal-hearing/3761846/Proctor's Post Trial Interview - https://www.youtube.com/live/i7IdKgUQoDU?t=7615sThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy

Welcome to The Clay Edwards Show, where I dive into the day's hottest topics with an unfiltered take. Today, I'm breaking down a viral incident involving a first amendment auditor clashing with a Mississippi trooper outside the governor's mansion. These self-proclaimed “auditors” record public officials to test free speech rights, but is it activism or just harassment? I argue it's the latter, comparing them to the Westboro Baptist Church for targeting innocent employees—like security guards—without cause. The trooper's reaction (putting hands on the auditor) sparks debate: was it justified self-defense or overreach? I say the auditor asked for it with his provocative “What are you gonna do?”—and got an answer he didn't like. Two wrongs don't make a right, but I'm not siding with the auditor here. Listen in for my take on free speech boundaries and personal accountability. Why Listen? A raw, no-holds-barred take on first amendment auditors and free speech. Real-time reaction to a viral trooper-auditor clash. Thought-provoking discussion on harassment vs. rights. Who's This For? If you're passionate about free speech debates or curious about the first amendment auditor trend, this is for you. On a pioneering task force, Bob Delaney went from New Jersey State Trooper to undercover in some of the biggest east coast Mob families. In this episode, Delaney spoke to Giovanni and Dutch about how he was recruited to work undercover, the innerworkings of how he infiltrated the Genovese and Bruno Crime Families and his transition to high-profile NBA referee. Tune in for an incredibly insightful and inspirational episode.   About Bob Delaney: Robert “Bob” Delaney rose to the top of two elite organizations — in law enforcement as a highly decorated Trooper with the New Jersey State Police and in the National Basketball Association as one of the most respected referees, having most recently served as NBA Vice President Director of Officials. In 1981 Delaney testified before the United States Senate on Organized Crime, detailing his perilous 3-year undercover operation infiltrating the Genovese and Bruno Crime Families. His NBA referee career began in 1987 (more than 1,700 regular season games, 200 playoff contests and nine Finals). Delaney worked the ‘98 and ‘11 All-Star Games, the ‘94 Opening NBA Games in Yokohama, Japan and the ‘10 NBA China games. Yuri Bukhenik is back on the stand with Cross Examination and Defense Attorney Alan Jackson keeps cornering him about Proctor's true involvements. At one point he says that he gave evidence bag to someone but didn't know who. A significant portion of the day involved reading text messages between Brian Higgins and Karen Read into evidence. These texts were described as potentially "flirtatious" and revealed details about Karen's relationship with John O'Keefe, her feelings about children, and the presence of ring cameras at O'Keefe's house. The defense aimed to highlight these texts to suggest the investigation should have looked more closely at Higgins. Trooper Bukhenik was assigned to find the location of the Albert's dog, Chole, who was shortly rehomed after John O'Keefe's death. Chloe is supposed now named Cora but we are not sure if that is the same dog because they were rehomed twice after the Albert's. There were not transfer records, rehoming records, purchase records and the validity of the veterinary records are questioned because the dog's name and current owner were not on the document.Alan Jackson asked if he was aware that there were more than 20 official police reports were not recorded for more than 100 days from the time of the event in question? There were 11 reports that were more than 300 days from the time of the event? Three reports were more than 400 days from the time of the event? Four reports were more than 500 days from the time of the event? The longest delay of any report in this investigation was 581 days? Bukhenik acknowledged that he was not aware of the exact dates and delays. He tried to explain that in a perfect world, reports would be written as events happen but implied there were reasons for the delays. It was revealed during the cross-examination of Sergeant Yuri Bukhenik that there were significant delays in interviewing witnesses from Ricky D'Antuono's truck. While Ryan Nagle, who was also in the truck, was interviewed in February 2022, Ricky D'Antuono, who drove the truck, were not interviewed until September 2023. This is approximately a year and a half later! The defense appears to be anticipating that the Commonwealth will not call certain witnesses (Brian Albert, Brian Higgins, Ricky D'Antuono, and potentially Trooper Proctor), and they are trying to introduce their desired information through Sergeant Bukhenik's testimony. Cross Examination continues on Monday.RESOURCESWhat You Need to Know About the Retrial - https://youtu.be/89Jpa8vz1RQ Karen Read Retrial Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKOJlfL__9F027hlETVU-vo Karen Read Trial - 2024 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKUeCUzApgsEuQRXu5IXeTSThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy

Yuri Bukhenik was the only witness to take the stand as he walked in with bins of evidence. There was confusion regarding John O'Keefe's sneakers being initially misidentified a being the one from from 34 Fairview versus from the hospital. Special Prosecutor Hank Brennan and Bukhenik talked briefly in the beginning about Proctor, calling him Mr. Proctor instead of Trooper Proctor but we know Defense Attorney Alan Jackson will call him Former Trooper Proctor. Sgt. Yuri Bukhenik explained that there was an investigation against him due to failure to properly Supervise Michael Proctor. His punishment was that he lost 5 vacation days. He continues to work in homicide and has not been demoted from Sargent. When Bukhenik read the text message thread from Proctor, which contained horrible messages that he said he acknowledged with a thumbs up emoji, we can only image what was going through the jurors minds.Bukhenik presented a video timeline of Karen Read drinking at CF McCarthy's and The Waterfall before we got to Cross Examination!Sgt. Bukhenik refused to call Proctor the Lead Investigator of this case and said he was only a "Case Agent' and/or "Case Officer." He was questioned about the integrity of the investigation and whether Michael Proctor's involvement tainted it, to which he responded that the investigation was done with honor and integrity. When asked if Proctor handled the case with honor and integrity, Bukhenik relented and only said yes with integrity. Access to evidence, specifically John O'Keefe's clothing, was discussed, noting that "anyone with a key card" had access to the room where it was stored for six days. The timing and documentation of evidence collection, particularly clothing and items from 34 Fairview, were questioned. It was noted that reports about the searches weren't written until November 4th, 2023, despite the events happening in February 2022!RESOURCESWhat You Need to Know About the Retrial - https://youtu.be/89Jpa8vz1RQ Karen Read Retrial Playlist - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKOJlfL__9F027hlETVU-vo Karen Read Trial - 2024 - https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsbUyvZas7gKUeCUzApgsEuQRXu5IXeTSThis podcast uses the following third-party services for analysis: Spotify Ad Analytics - https://www.spotify.com/us/legal/ad-analytics-privacy-policy/Podscribe - https://podscribe.com/privacy
