August 26, 2026 - Season 17, Episode 14 of The Terrible Podcast is now in the can. In this Wednesday morning show, Alex Kozora and I get right into discussing latest transactions made by the Pittsburgh Steelers. We also go over the known health of the team as they prepare to play their 2026 preseason finale on Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills. With there being a lot of rumblings concerning Steelers CB Joey Porter Jr. over the last few days, and especially with some of those coming from mainstream NFL insiders, Alex and I take a deeper dive into his situation. We discuss how this coming Sunday is a big day when it comes to Porter and mainly due to him still being listed on the Active/PUP list. We discuss how far away the Steelers might be from getting a contract extension done with Porter at this point and if there are any chances that team could ultimately trade him. After thoroughly discussing the situation with Porter, Alex and I talk about a few players that seem to be on the proverbial roster bubble heading into the team's preseason finale. With both of us having now completed our latest 53-man roster predictions as of Wednesday morning, we go over each of them. We discuss the few differences that we have with our roster predictions and why. Alex and I start winding down this episode by going over several players and things we think deserve being watched closely Thursday night in the preseason finale against the Bills. This 97-minute episode also discusses several other minor topics not noted in the recap above. steelersdepot.com Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Send us Fan MailNo one saw it coming. There had been no public hearings, the story had died down, the Ethics Committee had been predicted to censure Senator Packwood, and most likely strip him of his Chairmanship of the powerful Senate Budget Committee. Then it announced that in a 6 - 0 vote, it would recommend expulsion to the full Senate. As the old saying goes, that is when it hit the fan. Here we will tune in to the dueling press conferences as Senator Bob Packwood went on the offensive to defend himself and try to salvage his 27 year career. Just after his press conference ended the Ethics Committee Chairman, Mitch McConnell R- Kentucky and Richard Bryan, the ranking member, D-Nevada, stepped in front of the cameras with thousands of pages of materials and made their case. Bob Packwood was cornered, but he was not without friends and as you will hear, many of them, including members of the press would come to his defense, and often it wasn't even subtle. It would be some of the most interesting and riveting hours that I ever can remember in politics. Over the next few episodes we will take you through it all as Senator Bob Packwood, one of the most popular and powerful members of the United States Senate saw his career finally unravel in front of the world.  Questions or comments at  , Randalrgw1@aol.com ,  https://twitter.com/randal_wallace   , and http://www.randalwallace.com/Please Leave us a review at wherever you get your podcastsThanks for listening!!

We're back — maybe getting a little too scheduled — with one opinion on the docket: West Virginia v. B.P.J. and Little v. Hecox, where the Court held that states may limit girls' and women's sports teams to biological sex without violation Equal Protection or Title IX. First, though, Will collects on a two-year-old prediction when the Court grants Jouppi v. Alaska, an Institute for Justice case about a five-figure airplane forfeited over a six-pack of beer. On the main event, we work through how the opinions are written (no pronouns, no "Lindsay"), what the litigants' Title IX concession did to the case, and whether there is any such thing as an as-applied equal protection challenge. Will makes a big-swing prediction about transgender status and heightened scrutiny, and we ask whether the Court's reasoning can be squared with VMI and the anti-stereotyping cases. Along the way: fencepost problems, Magneto's powers, Magic: The Gathering's crossover-IP wars, scrawny men, and Justice Kavanaugh's ode to the championship trophy.Highlights[00:00:21] Opening: continuing the roll, "starting to get a little scheduled," and record-setting season ambitions[00:02:05] Summer interim-docket check-in: a new SG filing on mail-in voting; still no rehearing petition in the birthright-citizenship case[00:03:23] Filing-day counting and the classic fencepost problem[00:04:50] Will doesn't condone violence, Dan; UFC, violent video games, and Dungeons & Dragons[00:07:46] The prediction workflow pays off: Will called the IJ excessive-fines cert push back in May 2024 (Culley)[00:08:05] Cert granted in Jouppi v. Alaska: a 5-figure aircraft forfeited over a 6-pack of beer[00:09:58] Scorecard methodology: easy predictions, Magneto clauses, and a slugging-percentage proposal[00:12:51] Dan's good news: Constitutional Rights in General Private Law, accepted at Harvard Law Review[00:13:32] The main event: West Virginia v. We picked two immigration decisions from the same day over the transgender-sports case because — Dan's protests notwithstanding — that's where the interesting law is. In Mullin v. Doe the Court lets the administration terminate temporary protected status for Haiti and Syria, holding the statute's no-judicial-review bar swallows the procedural challenges and that the equal-protection claim fails on the merits — with a genuinely odd move: skipping the jurisdictional question the way Steel Co. says you can't. In Mullin v. Al Otro Lado a fight about asylum-metering collapses onto a single preposition — whether a migrant stopped at the border “arrives in” the United States — and the majority says no. Along the way: brown M&Ms and Van Halen riders, whether Congress can strip review of constitutional claims without turning in a circle and sprinkling salt on the ground, Bolling v. Sharpe as a candidate for the worst decision ever, and why there's no White Somalia to run a controlled experiment.Highlights[00:00:28] Opening: hype music, and listening to your own podcast to get in the mood[00:01:42] Building a live-show rider with Claude Code, and the Van Halen brown-M&Ms test as a safety checklist[00:03:18] Blogging origin stories — GeoCities, Movable Type, the death of Google Reader, a ransomed domain[00:06:26] Why we date-stamp episodes; the “too many episodes” complaint[00:07:27] Today's slate: two June 25 immigration decisions, Mullin v. Doe and Mullin v. Al Otro Lado, chosen over the trans-sports case[00:10:37] A digression on the opinion's broken line spacing on page 1[00:12:11] Mullin v. Doe setup: TPS, the consultation-and-review procedures, and the “no judicial review of any determination” bar[00:19:07] Does the bar reach the procedures or just the bottom line? The Court says the whole thing[00:24:32] Can Congress strip review of constitutional claims — or must it first “turn in a circle and sprinkle salt on the ground”?[00:25:01] Dan on his and Alan Trammell's The False Promise of Jurisdiction Stripping[00:31:42] Steel Co. and jurisdiction-first — and the Court's strange skip of it on the interim docket, which costs it Gorsuch and Barrett on that Part[00:38:54] Why leave a hard jurisdictional question unwritten — the stare-decisis dodge and the “do you write on the shadow docket” dilemma[00:42:17] The multiply-the-probabilities problem (70% × 70%), by way of the Section 3 disqualification argument[00:44:04] The merits: Trump v. Hawaii redux, and Alito's very ginger, sanitized recounting of the President's statements about Haitians[00:48:21] Arlington Heights, race as a motivating factor, and the burden-shift the Court blends into one step[00:52:32] The Thomas concurrence: equal protection doesn't bind the federal government — Bolling v. Sharpe and Primus's Bolling Alone[00:59:27] The Kagan dissent: the review bar reaches only the bottom line, so the failure-to-consult claim survives[01:03:34] Why there's no perfect test case — no White Somalia — so the burden of proof is the ballgame[01:04:42] Mullin v. Al Otro Lado: metering, and whether a migrant stopped at the border “arrives in” the United States[01:08:31] IIRIRA swapped “arrives at” for “arrives in” — did changing the preposition change the meaning?[01:12:16] Dueling everyday-language examples: the running back, the mailbox, and Sotomayor's Penn Station / DCA / Golden Gate / movie-theater hypos[01:15:44] The Chicago Skyway's “Now arriving in Indiana” signs — “we say no thanks”[01:18:28] The dissent's practical stakes: perverse incentives to cross illegally, the SS St. Louis, and the Footnote 5 vs. Footnote 4 spat[01:20:51] Mootness and the voluntary-cessation exception; Jackson's advisory-opinion dissent and the Chatrie citation she just missed[01:24:13] The second Thomas concurrence: the § 1252 injunction bar (Garland v. Aleman Gonzalez) and an inherent Article II power to expel — “milling around”[01:26:18] The “an uniform rule” indefinite-article tangent; Conor Clarke on how we can't pronounce anything[01:28:06] Sign-off: Dan's two-week vacation, and thanks to the Constitutional Law Institute and SCOTUSblogRelevant linksCasesMullin v. It's hard to think of a Category-5 hurricane as a good thing. But in 2025, Hurricane Humberto helped save the East Coast from a direct hit by a smaller hurricane, Imelda. The deflection was an example of the Fujiwhara effect. It's named for the Japanese scientist who first described the effect, in 1921. It's an interaction between two or more storms that pass close together. It applies to both tropical and non-tropical cyclones. Such storms are big and powerful. But they're influenced by the conditions around them. And the stronger the influence, the more the storms can change. As two storms approach each other, they can change direction, for example. They might move closer, with both of them spinning around a point between them. If there's a big difference in the sizes of the storms, the bigger one might deflect the smaller one, or even absorb it. But if they're about the same size, they might loop around each other, then be shot out in opposite directions. Tropical storms and hurricanes begin to interact at separations of about 900 miles. As they get closer, they may spin faster. And at less than 200 miles, they're likely to merge. The exact process depends on the size and intensity of the storms and many other factors, so it's tough to forecast. The Fujiwhara effect is seen more often in the Pacific Ocean. But it does play out in the Atlantic as well. The Humberto-Imelda interaction is the most recent—a dance of giant storms that helped coastal residents—this time. Topic include: Advance In-Person Voting Is Underway for the June 16 Primary Runoff. The tone of the Governor's runoff seems to have softened, slightly. Jackson Ad featuring Kemp riles Team Jones Rep Brent Cox featured in an ad attacking Jones over the property tax bill - Rep Ridley has words for him. Trump to have telephone town hall to support Jones Thursday night. Dueling polls: Cygnal says Jackson up 12. CivicLens, from June 1, says Jones up 9. What we are hearing about the special session: Why are they having a special session, anyway? It's not a given that they redraw the maps. Can lawmakers fix SB 189's QR-code problem without reigniting election conspiracy politics?   Oh yeah... property and gas taxes. Other Items Of Interest: Dems create false narrative about pay to play with Kemp and Dooley, as media goes all in. Could a GOP candidate win a special election in Gwinnett's SD7? MARTA safety becomes a statewide political issue. Dr. Janice Johnston steps down from SEB, replaced by Carolyn Roddy. Thank you for "the peach jam and the hot pickle." This week's episode was just like any other. There was definitely nothing controversial… Logan Jones-Wilkins and I dive into two vastly different gravel bikes we've been testing, starting with my review of the XDS X-Lab GT8. On paper, the GT8 is a standard, run-of-the-mill gravel bike. It lacks a unique "special sauce" and won't revolutionize the category, but it is a highly capable all-rounder that will handle just about any unpaved road. Then you see the price. The GT8 comes with a full carbon build and a power meter for about half the cost of its mainstream competitors. XDS is a massive Chinese manufacturing powerhouse that is now entering the US through a traditional dealer network. We discuss whether you should buy the GT8, and what its aggressive pricing means for Western brands. Then we pivot to the Obed GVR, which Jones-Wilkins has been putting through its paces. Despite sharing the gravel category, the Obed is the polar opposite of the XDS. It is not an all-rounder. Instead, it is a highly specialized, direct-to-consumer machine built around big tire clearance and a DT Swiss suspension fork that was previously a Canyon exclusive. We break down the tech and figure out exactly who this bike is built for. Oh and we've got more 32-inch wheel discussion. Of course there's no way we can get away from that. If you read my recent piece, you know I think the standard makes zero sense for most riders, and I absolutely hate the idea of a new wheel size standard. Logan is taking a more measured approach, analyzing why the industry is pushing this standard regardless of public opinion. Of course, Mike Levy set this up as a pair of dueling articles, so we hash out the details on the air and try to predict where this is all headed. Tune in and let us know your take.

What's up bros?? We have a much needed reprieve from the rest of the reality world with one of our favorite shows that just keeps on getting better. After the fallout from Kimi's comment about Misse's brother, it seems we're pivoting to a new potential villain (or scapegoat) in Margo. Thankfully, we get dueling dinners to stoke the fire in much different ways but poor Martha finds herself in the middle of it all. We never know what to expect next with this group and we wouldn't want it any other way! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Aaron McIntire covers back-to-back terror incidents on American soil: a vehicle ramming and gunfire attack at a Michigan synagogue by a naturalized citizen from Lebanon, and a campus shooting at Old Dominion University in Virginia where the gunman—previously convicted of supporting ISIS—shouted "Allahu Akbar" before killing two and injuring others. We discuss President Trump's response, the synagogue's security measures that prevented a massacre, and the broader context amid escalating U.S.-Israel operations against Iran. Centcom reports the loss of a KC-135 tanker in western Iraq during refueling (not due to hostile fire), while Trump reaffirms progress in the campaign against what he calls a "nation of terror." Secretary Rubio outlines ending all U.S. aid to Somalia to align foreign assistance strictly with national interests. Plus listener questions on the Iran war's bigger geopolitical chessboard, sources for following developments, AI's potential role in shifting labor markets, and more in this Ask or Tell Me Anything Friday edition.   The AM Update, Aaron McIntire, Michigan synagogue attack, Old Dominion shooting, terror attacks USA, Mohamed Jallow ISIS, Iran tanker loss, KC-135 crash Iraq, Operation Epic Fury, Marco Rubio Somalia aid, Trump Iran update, heartbeat bill Wyoming, Ask or Tell Me Anything, Middle East conflict, U.S. foreign policy
