This week's episode was just like any other. There was definitely nothing controversial… Logan Jones-Wilkins and I dive into two vastly different gravel bikes we've been testing, starting with my review of the XDS X-Lab GT8. On paper, the GT8 is a standard, run-of-the-mill gravel bike. It lacks a unique "special sauce" and won't revolutionize the category, but it is a highly capable all-rounder that will handle just about any unpaved road. Then you see the price. The GT8 comes with a full carbon build and a power meter for about half the cost of its mainstream competitors. XDS is a massive Chinese manufacturing powerhouse that is now entering the US through a traditional dealer network. We discuss whether you should buy the GT8, and what its aggressive pricing means for Western brands. Then we pivot to the Obed GVR, which Jones-Wilkins has been putting through its paces. Despite sharing the gravel category, the Obed is the polar opposite of the XDS. It is not an all-rounder. Instead, it is a highly specialized, direct-to-consumer machine built around big tire clearance and a DT Swiss suspension fork that was previously a Canyon exclusive. We break down the tech and figure out exactly who this bike is built for. Oh and we've got more 32-inch wheel discussion. Of course there's no way we can get away from that. If you read my recent piece, you know I think the standard makes zero sense for most riders, and I absolutely hate the idea of a new wheel size standard. Logan is taking a more measured approach, analyzing why the industry is pushing this standard regardless of public opinion. Trump's nominee to lead the Department of Homeland Security, Oklahoma Senator Mark Wayne Mullin, faced a confirmation hearing that left jaws on the floor. A multimillionaire who inherited his father's plumbing empire, received a PPP loan exceeding one million dollars that was later forgiven, and never served a single day in the United States military, Mullin has somehow found himself one step away from running DHS. The hearing produced moment after moment of staggering incompetence. When asked if he had ever traveled outside the United States, Mullin said no, despite his own FBI background report listing trips to Georgia and Azerbaijan. Senator Rand Paul, who has a long and bitter history with Mullin, used his committee time to relentlessly grill the nominee over past comments about dueling and physical violence between senators. The confrontation between Paul and Mullin was as tense and bizarre as advertised. When pressed on whether President Trump would ever ask him to break the law, Mullin flatly said no, prompting Hawk to walk through Trump's 91 indictments, 34 felony convictions, civil rape adjudication, classified document charges, and multiple attempts to overturn the 2020 election. Mullin also described going on classified missions and experiencing the smell of war, despite having zero military service. But that changed once I arrived in New Orleans.     Music and culture ' especially along Royal Street ' ooze from NOLA's pores, pumping through its streets as if the heart of all music can be found somewhere within the veins of the French Quarter. It is New Orleans, after all, that mothered music greats ranging from Louis Armstrong and Fats Domino to Lil Wayne. And that variety is not accidental ' it's part of NOLA's appeal.     On one street you may walk into an impromptu jazz ensemble performance, complete with an upright bass, saxophone player and a singer throwing out some hot scats. Five blocks down, you could stumble upon a high-energy brass group filled with trumpets, trombones and a tuba. Not to mention the multiple solo acts scattered throughout NOLA's streets at all hours of the day and night.     One factor that makes NOLA an ideal street performing city is the layout. The Quarter's tight streets, filled with sheltered sidewalks due to the vast amounts of layered decks, create a rich acoustic experience for buskers. The sound stays contained from having a ceiling of sorts, which then bounces off the parallel building in full circle. This week in Louisiana history. March 13, 1815. Gen. During the 1800s a series of duels were fought between fencing masters ' the most famous, Spaniard Pepe Llula was known as a duelist who met any man with any weapon.
