Jay Mohr (Jerry Maguire, SNL) joins us this week for an absolutely amazing conversation… one that'll make you self reflect on your life while cracking up at the same time. Jay talks about his earliest drug (approval) and how seeking it lead to success in comedy but difficulties in show business, ala SNL. We also talk about accepting responsibility for your own problems, his Wu-Tang fueled intervention story, and going toe to toe with Tom Cruise on Jerry Maguire. Thank you to our sponsors:
This week, the boys stay positive as they take a look at Ridley Scott's first proper film, “The Duelists,” from 1977! Starring Keith Carradine, Harvey Keitel, and Albert Finney, this self-funded film is stunning to watch, but is it interesting to endure? We drink and discuss! John and Dave also caught “The Amateur” (2025) in the cinema and offer a mini-review before John discusses some upsetting WGA hiring statistics. Grab a drink and give us a listen! The Georgia-born, Nashville-based roots-rock outfit Larkin Poe have had a busy year. Last summer, they toured across the U.S. supporting Slash, and released their seventh studio album, Bloom, on January 22. With a bit of downtime back in Nashville, co-shredders-in-chief Megan and Rebecca Lovell joined Shred With Shifty to deconstruct their face-melting leads on “Summertime Sunset,” off of their 2022 record Blood Harmony. The Lovells grew up reading sheet music and learning violin via the Suzuki method—there was little room for going off the beaten path until they fell in love with Jerry Douglas' dobro playing on Alison Krauss records. Rebecca took up the mandolin, while Megan went for the dobro and the slide side of things. It took a while for them to get comfortable turning up from their bluegrass roots, but eventually they built Larkin Poe's amplified, blues-rock sound. First up, Rebecca, playing a pristine '60s SG, shows how she put together her stinging, fuzzy solo by “hunting and pecking out” melodies in her mind, building up the chops to follow her intuition. Then Megan, playing a Rickenbacker-inspired lap steel of her own design through a Rodenberg TB Drive, details her dizzyingly fast slide acrobatics, and her particular “rake” technique that she copped from Jerry Douglas and Derek Trucks. Tune in to hear them talk about how to sustain family relationships while going professional, keeping music community-minded, and whether or not they'll go back to bluegrass. Right here, squaring off, from opposite sides of the Atlantic, we present: Dueling tag-teams of zaniness — wearing fanciful disguises, winking at traditional forms, and tweeting in a birdlike falsetto… Good stuff!BEDAZZLEDThe Faustian satire Bedazzled, created by genius comedian Peter Cook (who plays the Devil trying to bargain for souls), makes good use of the talents of his Chaplin-esque comedy partner, Dudley Moore (who you might remember from the hit films Ten and Arthur), who plays the shlumpy Wimpy Burger cook, Stanley, willing to bargain away his mortal soul for love. The team first worked together in the early 60s smash stage revue BEYOND THE FRINGE, then coalesced on the BBC as Pete and Dud, (and, later, even more darlingly in the scatalogical bootleg recordings of Derek and Clive). In 1966, with Bedazzled they were on the rise commercially, and Moore, an Oxford trained classical and jazz pianist, wrote all the music for the film. In this cut, entitled Leaping Nuns chorus, the sisters of the Order of Saint Beryl (including Stanley in full habit) show their devotion to the Saint by jumping on trampolines. JAN AND DEAN MEET BATMANAlso in ‘66, laboring secretly on a similar track, energized by the same Goon Show type inspiration, Jan Berry and Dean Torrance were working to expand, (but not abandon) their surf sound by adding a storyline and special effects, and creating some nutty theater of the mind. Who knows where this might have led, if Jan's tragic car collision a few week's after the record's release, (resulting in his massive head injuries), hadn't sidelined the team's ambitions? Perhaps a blockbuster TV series…?There was always a comic element to the Jan and Dean performance style. (Check out the classic Rock concert film Tami Show, which they hosted). They may have looked like copper toned surf hunks, but maybe there was some Abbott and Costello lurking beneath the Golden Boy surface.

They discuss the thrill of the chase, the concept of 'needing' versus 'wanting' cards, and the potential for addiction within the hobby. They also explore the dynamics of card shows, set collecting, and the impact of grading on the value of complete sets. The conversation shifts to the allure of rare and obscure cards, the differences between popular and lesser-known cards, and the changing mentality of collectors over the years. 00:26 Collector's Dilemma: Want vs. Need 00:56 Addiction or Dedication? 01:50 Card Shows: The Thrill of the Hunt 04:38 Set Collecting: A Declining Trend 05:52 Grading and Its Impact on Card Value 07:23 The Allure of Rare and Obscure Cards 12:38 Discovering Hidden Gems 17:49 The Importance of Knowledge and Experience

In April 2019, Virginia Giuffre filed a defamation lawsuit against attorney Alan Dershowitz, alleging that he had defamed her by publicly denying her claims that he had sexually abused her as part of Jeffrey Epstein's trafficking operations. Dershowitz responded by countersuing Giuffre for defamation, maintaining his innocence and asserting that her allegations were false. This legal battle led to a series of contentious exchanges and further litigation between the parties. In November 2022, both Giuffre and Dershowitz agreed to dismiss their respective lawsuits. In a joint statement, Giuffre acknowledged that she "may have made a mistake" in identifying Dershowitz as one of her abusers, noting the traumatic and stressful circumstances she was under at the time. Dershowitz, in turn, reaffirmed his denial of the allegations but expressed appreciation for Giuffre's acknowledgment. The settlement concluded the protracted legal dispute between the two, with both parties agreeing to move forward without further litigation.to contact me:bobbycapucci@protonmail.com
