This is Episode 32 of the VulnerABLE Podcast! She has struggled with mental health that would hospitalize her, and place her in long term care. Now she shares her story to help others move through their own vulnerability! Her first memory of facing vulnerability was during a figure skating performance, where she fell backwards, hitting her head and blacking out. It wouldn’t stop her from finishing, but she felt the heaviness of the moment nonetheless. Finishing was something she started to carry with her, regardless of the situation. The high achieving focus she developed was a strength, but it definitely could also be a burden, especially as she entered the working world. On the outside people saw success, and drive, and not necessarily knew she was suffering. Throughout her life she has battled depression, multiple hospitalizations, and long-term care for her mental health issues. Although now she considers herself a survivor, the work to get here has been challenging, fraught with setbacks, and yet she’s found hope. After starting a movement called The Truth Behind Our Titles, and beginning to share her story, the next move took five years. She was asked to publish her story on LinkedIn, and the vulnerability of sharing so openly was overwhelming to say the least. It’s now had over 50,000 views. She will say the number isn’t important, it’s the impact the story had on some of those readers that is. As the CEO & Founder of East Tenth Group, she continues working to inspire people to share their stories and realize they’re not alone. For more information on Michelle Tenzyk you can follow her and her company on social media or visit her company website:LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/michelletenzyk/LinkedIn (Company): https://www.linkedin.com/company/east-tenth-group-inc-/Facebook (Company): https://www.facebook.com/EastTenthGroup/Twitter (Company: https://twitter.com/EastTenthGroupWebsite: https://easttenthgroup.com/As well if you want to check out her article click here:Article: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/truth-behind-my-title-high-achieving-ceos-candid-story-tenzyk/
Susan Michel, CEO of Glen Eagle, sits down with Michelle Tenzyk, CEO and Founder of East Tenth Group, a People Strategy, Leadership and Executive Coaching Firm. Michelle worked her way up the corporate ladder to executive strategic HR positions. While doing so, though, she was diagnosed with a serious, debilitating illness, one that often carries a tremendous social stigma. In 2014, Michelle founded the movement, The Truth Behind Our Titles®: Strength, Resilience and Hope for the Professional Journey. It shifts the belief that professional success means hiding or disguising our inner struggles and difficulties. Tune in to hear Michelle candidly discuss her inspiring journey and share her theory that we should embrace all of our experiences—even difficult ones—to integrate ourselves fully and more authentically in our professional lives.
