Do you feel that your relationship with God is stale? Do you feel distant from Him? Maybe you've sinned and are not sure the way back to Him; or maybe you're a new Christian and you don't know the next step in this Christian walk. Deepening your relationship with God is vitally important for every believer because it reminds us that this world is not our home. It is the tie between this physical world we live in and the spiritual world that we cannot see. 3 Simple Ways to Deepen Your Relationship With God You see, the spiritual realm is more real than even this physical realm we can see, taste, touch, hear and smell. These modern times, however, have robbed us of that understanding. Western culture diminishes the spiritual realm to something novels and fantasy films are made of, and yet it is not fiction, it is not a fantasy, but it is very real and it is important that we always have eternity before our eyes. Having a growing, thriving relationship with God helps to keep eternity before our eyes. 1. Studying your Bible Go beyond reading your Bible. Grab some tools to help you dig down deep into God's Word. Get a notebook and write down your observations about what you read. Look at the passage within the context of the book and look at cross references (most Bibles have cross references in the center column or footnotes), and use BlueLetterBible.org to check out trusted commentaries and Greek and Hebrew meanings. Studying God's Word is the first step to applying it to our lives. 2. Prayer Prayer is communication with God. He wants to hear from you. He wants to hear your heart and receive your worship. But He also wants to express His heart to you. Prayer is this intimate exchange between you and God where you can share your heart as well as your needs. 3. Memorizing and Meditating on Scripture If you want to really take your relationship with God to a whole new level, begin memorizing and meditating on Scripture. I know most people believe they could never memorize scripture, but the truth is that we memorize many things all of the time: song lyrics, sports facts.... Meditation is taking what we've memorized and pondering it deeply. The biblical definition of memorize literally means to mumble, or to say it over and and over to ourselves out loud. How do you think your relationship with God would deepen if you did these three things everyday? I have created a 67-page journal that will help you do these three things to deepen you relationship with Christ. Sometimes, I feel like giving up: on relationships, my kids, my career, and even my faith. But what if there's a pivot God is inviting you to see with Him? Maybe you just don't see it yet? In this episode (#23) I share: Areas of my life where I've contemplated quitting. A story in the Bible that made me think that perhaps God has a pivot in place, I just don't see it yet. Encouragement in your own season of when you feel like quitting instead. I'm thankful for those seasons that I haven't quit, even though I felt like it. I'm thankful that I've stuck it out only to see the pivot that was just beyond the next corner, leading to an even greater path and plan than I anticipated. Click to listen to this episode! A daily devotional through the recorded words Jesus spoke while He walked alongside us. Our website http://alittlewalkwithgod.com. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. Are you part of an accountability group? Do you have anyone that really knows you and challenges you in your daily journey? How do you find someone like that in your life? One group of men I heard did just that. Scripture John 8:19 Jesus: You don't know the Father or Me. If you knew Me, then you would also know the Father. Devotional A few days ago I was listening to a vignette about a men's group that decided they wanted to become accountable to each other. The short video didn't explain how the men met or tell much about any common interests that brought them together. Might have been a Sunday School Class Might have been a Men's Bible Study Might have been neighbors at the time Might have been co-workers, but probably not Came several areas of business, some entrepreneurs, some blue collar Made a commitment to met for support and accountability to each other for the next 20 years During those twenty years… One plead guilty to felony charges and spent time in prison Two lost a child One when through rehab for drug and alcohol addiction Three went through divorce All had major crises in life All supported each other and helped them through those crises Seventeen years later They know each other No secrets Nothing off limits in their accountability circle Grow in their spiritual journey together Challenge each other in all areas of life Still committed to life of integrity Jesus said we don't know Him or the Father Maybe it was because they didn't spend any time with Him Maybe they thought a superficial relationship would do How are you, what's happening, good to see you, kind of relationship He wants us to commit like these ten men committed to each other Spend time with Him, get to know Him and make nothing off limits in discussion with Him. He knows anyway. When we spend time with Him we will get to know Him and when we know Him we will know the Father because they are One. How? I don't need to understand it, I just need to believe it. A daily devotional through the recorded words Jesus spoke while He walked alongside us. Our website http://alittlewalkwithgod.com. Thanks for joining me today for "A Little Walk with God." I'm your host Richard Agee. Have you ever tried to explain something to someone and they just didn't get it? How did it make you feel? I bet Jesus got pretty frustrated at times, too. Particularly when His time was running out. Scripture Luke 24:25-26 Jesus: Come on, men! Why are you being so foolish? Why are your hearts so sluggish when it comes to believing what the prophets have been saying all along? Didn't it have to be this way? Didn't the Anointed One have to experience these sufferings in order to come into His glory?Jesus: Why are you upset? Why are your hearts churning with questions? Look—look at My hands and My feet! See that it's Me! Come on; touch Me; see for yourselves. A ghost doesn't have flesh and bones, as you can see that I have! Devotional Sometimes I'm a really terrible teacher. I enjoy teaching most of the time, but occasionally I'll teach a subject that comes pretty easily to me and I think it should to everyone. I forget that it doesn't. All of us have things like that, of course. I've had people try to teach me how to fix cars. It's a hopeless cause. Plumbing is the same way I've learned to hire others to do some of those things around the house because it's a lot cheaper than doing it myself When I think something should be crystal clear and it isn't Try to restate in other ways Try to review in ways to solidify in memory Try to relate to things they know and understand If unsuccessful, patience runs thin End of the story with two men Jesus met on road to Emmaus Talked on the road Knew the news about crucified Galilean Knew rumors of Messiah Jesus kept hinting about the tie in between the prophecies and the Galilean they heard about Connect the dots Are you guys stupid? What have you already said? Wake up! Finally put things together Finally understood Then recognized Jesus for who He was We sometimes think these guys are stupid. Why didn't they recognize Jesus? Weren't expecting to see Him Maybe saw Him on the cross, broken and bleeding How different are we? We have all the evidence of who He is, but don't recognize Him We don't believe what He says We don't trust His words Are we stupid or something? Maybe we need to pay more attention to His classes If you want to learn more about my church, you can find us at SAF.church. If you like the devotional, share it with someone. If you don't, tell me. Will God make you wealthy and healthy if you have enough faith in Him? Maybe, but maybe not. The main problem with the prosperity gospel is it offers the wrong reward for following Christ. The true reward is God Himself. He's the one who gives unspeakable joy. If you become healthy, wealthy, and prosperous but don't get God, then you lose. And if having God in your life means you're sick, broke, and rejected, then you still win.
Ever go to God and not receive what you expected from Him? Maybe it seems like the answer to your prayers is "Take a number..." In today's Thread we learn lessons from two people who were being tormented by the "dark side." Both came to Jesus, but neither received the treatment they might have thought they deserved.
