The third message in our Summer School series explores Jesus' identity as "The Anointed One," fulfilling Isaiah's prophecy in Luke 4:16-21 to bring good news and freedom. It highlights his three key roles: Jesus as the ultimate Prophet, permanent Priest, and eternal King. Ultimately, Jesus embodies all these roles as God's uniquely appointed Anointed One.

Luke Looks Back Chapter 2 Not all the stories commonly believed about the birth of Jesus are true to the actual facts. He was born before Herod died in 4 BC ,in Bethlehem, which was not his parent's home village, probably in an ordinary house (the word translated 'inn' can mean a guest room or just the sleeping area in a house; the manger would be between the family area and the livestock area). Not all the stories commonly believed about the birth of Jesus are true to the actual facts. He was born before Herod died in 4 BC ,in Bethlehem, which was not his parent's home village, probably in an ordinary house (the word translated 'inn' can mean a guest room or just the sleeping area in a house; the manger would be between the family area and the livestock area). Luke 1:1-20 Question 1. Luke carefully says the birth of King Jesus occurred during the reign of Caesar Augustus (v 1), who was a great and good Roman Emperor who brought lasting peace to a world in which there had been many wars. What does he want us to learn from this? One of the main themes of this, as all the Gospels, is the collision between the kingdom of Caesar and the kingdom of God. Luke was writing to Christians who might be martyred for refusing to say Caesar is Lord because they believed Jesus is Lord. Luke wants us to understand the enormous significance of what was happening. Question 2. Why does Luke choose to focus on the low caste shepherds rather than Matthew's high caste Wise Men? As we noted in the first study Luke emphasises the poor, the weak and the lost; not the rich, the healthy and the found. The title 'Christ the Lord' appears only here in the NT. The word 'Christ' has two meanings. It is a Greek word of the New Testament equivalent to the Hebrew word 'Messiah' of the Old Testament. Here, and generally in the Gospels, it is a title meaning 'the Anointed One'; later, in the Epistles it becomes part of Jesus' name. The most recent English versions use 'Messiah' when it is a title; 'Christ' when it is a name. Here it should be "the Lord Messiah". Our nearest translation in everyday words is "King Jesus". It is important to remember that when Luke uses this title he means 'the very special God-appointed Anointed One'. Question 3. A lot of people travelled to Bethlehem: Joseph and Mary, the shepherds, the Wise Men. Why did each of them go? What did they intend to do when they got there? Why are we told these things? What are we meant to learn from what happened? They all travelled in the purposes of God. It was important that those from both the top and the bottom of the society of those days should be there to see the baby King. They probably had only the vaguest idea of why they were there; they were there for our benefit - so we could be told about them and marvel at the stories. Luke 2: 21-52 Question 4. What does Simeon say (v 30 - 32) which introduces a new and important idea that neither Zechariah nor Mary mentioned? Simeon relates what is happening to the lives of ordinary people. They will experience salvation and the promise made to Abraham long ago that "all peoples on earth will be blessed through you" will finally come true. Question 5. Remembering that the Romans occupied their country, what did Anna mean when she spoke about the 'redemption of Jerusalem' (v 38)? She was probably thinking in a very practical way that the Romans would be thrown out of Jerusalem. It wasn't going to work like that! She spoke something that was a true prophecy but not in the way she thought. Question 6. In order to emphasise that Jesus came for both men and women Luke pairs up a story involving a man with one involving a woman at least 27 times in his gospel. Identify where he does this in these first two chapters. Which is the most important member of the pair on each of these occasions? Zechariah and Elizabeth, Joseph and Mary, Simeon and Anna. The men and the women are about evenly balanced in importance. Question 7. What do the episodes from the childhood of Jesus (v 40, 46 - 48, 51, 52) tell us about Jesus? What are we being told here: he was God or he was a man? Which do you find it most difficult to believe? Why? His life as a human being is being emphasised here. Jesus appears to have been a particularly bright and intelligent lad. Right mouse click or tap here to download as an audio mp3 Right mouse click or tap here to download as a PDF

June 01 2025 Sunday Your Words Matter / Week 17 / T. Stacy Hayes #findoutwhoyouare My Vision My vision is to teach the world Who They Are In Jesus Christ their Lord and Savior! To Teach them what the Bible says about them and who they have been made to be in the promises of God's Word. This changed my life years ago and completely transformed me from a person full of doubt, fear and unbelief to a strong confident Christian that knows I can do anything through Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior. And I'm determined to teach the world what God has taught and commissioned me to teach and that is His Word.  That commission takes me to jails and detention centers weekly along with other open doors at many churches and ministries that are wanting to teach these important truths to the world. My podcast goes out 6 days a week to help the people I am ministering to grow in the truths that God has taught me for many years now. This podcast is free to all that want to listen and grow strong in who God has made them to be in Christ Jesus their Lord and Savior. And now you are united with the one who was raised from the dead. As a result, we can produce a harvest of good deeds for God.” Romans 7:4 NLT “Likewise, my brethren, you have undergone death as to the Law through the [crucified] body of Christ, so that now you may belong to Another, to Him Who was raised from the dead in order that we may bear fruit for God.” Romans 7:4 AMPC “I thank my God always on your behalf, for the grace of God which is given you by Jesus Christ;” 1 Corinthians 1:4 KJV “I always thank my God for you and for the gracious gifts he has given you, now that you belong to Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 1:4 NLT “I thank my God at all times for you because of the grace (the favor and spiritual blessing) of God which was bestowed on you in Christ Jesus,” 1 Corinthians 1:4 AMPC “And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;” 2 Corinthians 5:18 KJV “And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. Daily Voice Devotional with Niyi Adekunle

Daily Voice Devotional with Niyi AdekunleFriday 30th MayThe works of Faith Part 5The works of faith can be seen in the everyday activities of your life — the everyday decisions and responses. God expects us, as believers, to do everything — our living, sleeping, waking, working — by the power of faith.Faith is not meant to be a spare tyte we pull out in times of crisis, or something we only use for big projects. Faith is supposed to be a constant part of our daily lives. That's the beauty of living by faith: is your conviction of the reality of God in everything we do and say, based on His Word. Your daily response to God's word — that's faith. The more you live tby faith , the more your consciousness of God's presence grows. So when you require faith for “big things” it's not a struggle, because you've been walking by faith everyday. But when we neglect to walk by faith in the everyday things, we struggle when the big things come. One thing Jesus and Apostle Paul both emphasized over and over is this: the believer's life must be lived entirely by faith.Galatians 2:20 (TPT), “My old identity has been co-crucified with Messiah and no longer lives. For the nails of His cross crucified me with Him. And now the essence of this new life is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives His life through me—we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the Son of God who loves me so much that He gave Himself for me and dispenses His life into mine.”Paul is saying, “I died with Christ. The life I live now is Christ's life flowing through me.” Our role is to yield and tallow His faith to work through us. That's what the walk of faith is all about. But here's the challenge: many of us don't want to let Christ live through us. We don't want to let Him love through us. Remember the old phrase: WWJD — What Would Jesus Do?Every day we're faced with choices. We know what Jesus wants us to do, but our flesh wants to do something else. That's where the struggle lies.Live out your faith everyday, torgive, love, soeak kindly, give, resist fear, overcome anxiety. Let go of worry, etc. These are things you do everyday. That's what the works of faith is all about, yielding to Jesus every single day.I pray that God gives you the strength, grace, and boldness to live out your faith daily.God bless you, enjoy your day.

[And it is meant] for all who believe. For there is no distinction,” Romans 3:22 AMPC “But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.” Romans 5:15 KJV “But there is a great difference between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ.” Romans 5:15 NLT “But God's free gift is not at all to be compared to the trespass [His grace is out of all proportion to the fall of man]. For if many died through one man's falling away (his lapse, his offense), much more profusely did God's grace and the free gift [that comes] through the undeserved favor of the one Man Jesus Christ abound and overflow to and for [the benefit of] many.” Romans 5:15 AMPC “For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous.” Romans 5:17-19 KJV “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ. Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone, but Christ's one act of righteousness brings a right relationship with God and new life for everyone. Because one person disobeyed God, many became sinners. But because one other person obeyed God, many will be made righteous.” Romans 5:17-19 NLT “For if because of one man's trespass (lapse, offense) death reigned through that one, much more surely will those who receive [God's] overflowing grace (unmerited favor) and the free gift of righteousness [putting them into right standing with Himself] reign as kings in life through the one Man Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One). Well then, as one man's trespass [one man's false step and falling away led] to condemnation for all men, so one Man's act of righteousness [leads] to acquittal and right standing with God and life for all men. For just as by one man's disobedience (failing to hear, heedlessness, and carelessness) the many were constituted sinners, so by one Man's obedience the many will be constituted righteous (made acceptable to God, brought into right standing with Him).” Romans 5:17-19 AMPC Romans 10:9-10  Salvation… Romans 10:17  Faith in God comes from hearing His Word… Matthew 11:28-30  Jesus'Yoke is Easy… John 3:16  God gave Jesus to pay for our Salvation… God Loves The abortion dr As Much As He Loves The Babies They Are Killing… Philippians 12:2  Work out your own Salvation… Romans 8:1  No condemnation in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior…  Luke Chapter 15 The Story Of The Prodigal Son… Philippians 4:19  God will supply all your needs let Him… Romans 4:20  Don't Stagger at What God Is Saying In His Word… John 15:5 We can't do anything aside from Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior… 2 Corinthians 5:17  We are new creatures in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior… 2 Corinthians 5:21  We are The Righteousness of God In Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior… Mark 10:29-30  100 Fold Return… Ephesians 2:8  We are Saved by Grace through Faith in Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior… Believe God's Word Above All Opinions God Loves The abortion dr's As Much As He Loves The Babies They Are Killing… Mark 10:29-30  100 Fold Return… Share This Podcast On Your Social Media… Website https://the-prodigalson.com Email tstacyhayes@gmail.com  YouVersion Bible App https://my.bible.comi iOS App https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/prodigal-son/id1450529518?mt=8 …  Android App https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tv.wizzard.android.prodical  Social Media https://www.facebook.com/The-Prodigal-SON-209069136315959/ https://www.facebook.com/noreligion1511/ https://twitter.com/noreligion1511 https://www.instagram.com/noreligion1511/ https://m.youtube.com/channel/UCPx4s1CLkSYef6mp4dSuU4w/featured

Abounding Love Podcast with Former ”Tex” Watson

In another podcast, I bring out how Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever. But not only is Jesus the same yesterday, today and forever, but the Holy Ghost is too! Our Heavenly Father doesn't change, so we can say that the Godhead is unchangeable throughout all history. Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, and the goal of this ministry is the same. Jesus said, "Even as My Father has sent Me; I am sending you!" Jesus sends us with His authority and power of the Holy Ghost. We have the option to receive His power and authority or not. But without Him, we don't have the power to do the works of Christ [the Anointed One]. God isn't asking us to do something He hasn't given us the power to do! Are you looking for a more effective ministry? Are you desiring power over the devil? The early church received that power and the same is available for you today. The Gospels and the Book of Acts outlines how this happens. Join me as we explore these truths in Scripture. Selah! In this episode, we dive into Mark 8:27-30, a major turning point in the Gospel of Mark and a powerful moment of revelation. Jesus asks His disciples, "Who do you say I am?" Peter's bold response, "You are the Christ," challenges us to examine what we truly believe about Jesus. Many people, even within the church, settle for partial truths. They see Jesus as a good teacher or a moral example, but miss the deeper reality of who He really is. This one revelation, that Jesus is the Christ, the Anointed One, has the power to transform your faith, your identity, and your everyday life. Whether you're new to the Bible or have followed Jesus for years, this study will help you reflect on how knowing Him as Lord changes everything.

Welcome to Day 2634 of Wisdom-Trek. Thank you for joining me. This is Guthrie Chamberlain, Your Guide to Wisdom Day 2634 – New Testament Orientation – The Jesus of History Putnam Church Message – 05/18/2025 Sermon Series: New Testament Orientation Message 4: The Jesus of History   Last week, we returned to the intertestamental period between the Old and New Testaments and explored The Culture and Cosmology of the Intertestamental Period. Our core verses for last week were Galatians 3:26-29. Verse 28 summarizes the message. There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male and female. For you are all one in Christ Jesus.  Today, we will explore how Jesus appears in history outside the Bible. Our core verses for today are: Matthew 25:31-36  “But when the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit upon his glorious throne. All the nations will be gathered in his presence, and he will separate the people as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. He will place the sheep at his right hand and the goats at his left. “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home. I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.' (Opening Prayer) Heavenly Father, we gather once more, our hearts open to the enduring story of Jesus of Nazareth. We seek not just to remember him, but to truly understand him within the tapestry of his time. Expand our minds and hearts, Lord, as we delve deeper into the historical realities that shaped his earthly journey. May your Spirit illuminate the path of the Jesus of history, revealing the profound significance of his life for our faith today. It is in Jesus' name we pray, Amen. The Jesus of History (From the Perspective of Ancient Israelites and Early Christians): For generations, the whispers of the prophets had echoed in the synagogues and homes, foretelling the coming of the Messiah, the Anointed One who would restore the fortunes of Israel. They clung tightly to these promises during times of both fleeting autonomy and prolonged subjugation under foreign powers. The anticipation was a constant hum beneath the surface of the Israelites daily lives, a yearning for the promised deliverer. Yet, when Jesus of Nazareth finally appeared, his presence and his message often defied the very expectations they had nurtured for centuries. (Connecting to Current Context): Consider the anticipation surrounding a significant historical event or the arrival of a long-awaited leader. We often build up a mental image, a set of expectations based on news, past experiences, and our own desires. Think of the fervor surrounding a new era, a revolutionary movement, or the promise of a technological breakthrough. We imagine a specific outcome, a particular way in which the change will manifest. When the reality unfolds, it can sometimes be surprising, even challenging, to reconcile our...

*Daily Voice Devotional with Niyi Adekunle* *Tuesday 20th May* *Faith Feeders and Faith Drainers 2* There are things that strengthen our faith, and there are things that weaken it. When we consistently surround ourselves with the right influences our faith grows stronger. But when we stay around negativity, it drains our faith.Think about the story of David and Goliath. Each day, Goliath came out to threaten and intimidate he Army of Israel. His words created an atmosphere of fear that drained the Israelites' confidence in God. But David was different. He refused to let Goliath's threats affect him. Instead of feeding on fear, he stood on faith. He feed his faith through the power of testimonies and with that faith, he defeated Goliath.Faith-draining influences are real. The danger lies in not recognizing them. Often, our thoughts and responses are shaped by the understanding we already have. If that understanding is faulty, then our response will be faulty and that will negatively impact on our faith.Galatians 5:6 (TPT), “When you're joined to the Anointed One, circumcision and religious obligations can benefit you nothing. All that matters now is living in the faith that works and expresses itself through love.”Paul emphasizes that in Christ, external rituals no longer matter. What counts is faith working through love. This means love is a major feeder of faith. Walking in love—towards God and others—nurtures and strengthens your faith. You can't grow in faith if you harbour offense, hatred, or unforgiveness. Faith doesn't thrive in bitterness. Jesus was often moved by compassion, and that love empowered His faith to work miracles for others. So, if you want your faith to grow, nurture your love walk. Stay away from negativity and surround yourself with things that build you up spiritually. Let love rule your heart.I pray that as you grow in love, your faith will become stronger, deeper, and more effective in Jesus' name.God bless you, enjoy your day.

Over a number of years I have had contact with various “Messianic” people who see themselves as “Torah Observant” and who correctly see Yahooshua {incorrectly Jesus} as Messiah [the Anointed One who was to come]. The question that arises is whether Torah Observance as in a formal study of texts and observance of texts is relevant in this age. This broadcast explores the question “what EXACTLY IS Torah” and reaches a controversial conclusionRelationship With Creator is broadcast live Fridays 12Noon – 1PM ET and Music on W4CY Radio (www.w4cy.com) part of Talk 4 Radio (www.talk4radio.com) on the Talk 4 Media Network (www.talk4media.com). We continue our journey through the Apostles' Creed by turning our attention to one of its most defining lines: “I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord.” These words aren't just theological—they're personal. They point us to a real, historical person. Not a myth. Not just a good man. But Jesus: the Christ, the Anointed One, the Son of God, fully divine and fully human. Key Verses: Acts 2:22-24, 36-39

Today Daily Devotional

These are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name. — John 20:31 This brief note at the end of John's gospel account sums up the purpose of Jesus' coming. Through all of the other characters we have met and learned about in the story of Jesus, and through all of the things that took place in connection with Jesus' life, death, and resurrection, the main point has always been that Jesus is the Messiah. Jesus is the Son of God, the Messiah (the Christ, meaning “Anointed One”), sent by God the Father to live among us for the purpose of delivering us from the curse of sin. On our own we would have no chance of paying the price for our sin or trying to make right everything that we have done wrong in this world. We could never earn our own forgiveness. Jesus was sent to take the punishment that we deserve onto himself and to reconcile us with God once and for all. He lived, died, and was raised from the dead for you and for me—to bring us life at its fullest. Through Jesus, God offers each of us eternal life filled with forgiveness, love, grace, and purpose. If you haven't accepted this gift of love from God, I invite you to do so today. It is offered freely—no strings attached. Take some time to reflect on this incredible gift and receive new life today! Father in heaven, thank you for the gift of your Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ. Help us to live fully with gratitude for the amazing gift of salvation that you offer us today. Amen.

Send us a textThe profound yet often overlooked meaning of "Christ" offers a key that unlocks our understanding of biblical prophecy. When we call Jesus "Christ," we're literally acknowledging Him as "the Anointed One"—directly connecting Him to Daniel's prophecy about anointing the Most Holy.Through careful examination of Scripture, we discover overwhelming evidence that Jesus Christ has already fulfilled Daniel 9:24. From His own declaration in Luke 4 that "the Spirit of the Lord has anointed me," to Peter's confirmation in Acts 10 that "God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and power," the New Testament consistently portrays Jesus as the divinely anointed Messiah prophesied by Daniel. This understanding demands we reconsider popular end-times frameworks. If Daniel's 70 weeks have already been fulfilled through Christ's first coming, death, and resurrection, then interpretations requiring a future seven-year tribulation period collapse. The physical anointing Jesus received before His burial—which He explicitly connected to His coming death—serves as a powerful symbol of His status as the Most Holy who was anointed. Most beautifully, this anointing extends to all believers. As Paul writes, God "establishes us with you in Christ and anointed us." Just as the Shekinah glory filled the temple in the Old Testament, the Holy Spirit now dwells within believers who are in Christ. We aren't merely recipients of Christ's teaching—we're participants in His anointing, incorporated into His body through faith. What difference does this make? Everything. Rather than waiting for some future fulfillment of Daniel's prophecy, we can celebrate its completion in Christ and our inclusion in His kingdom that has already begun. The gospel becomes not merely a message about personal salvation, but the announcement that God's prophetic promises have been fulfilled in Jesus, the true Anointed One.Challenge yourself to reexamine familiar passages with fresh eyes. Connect the dots between Daniel's prophecy and Christ's completed work. The truth might surprise you—and transform how you understand God's redemptive plan. The Balance of GrayGod, doubt, and proof walk into a podcast... it goes better than you'd expect!Listen on: Apple Podcasts SpotifySupport the show

The buyer is then met with the comforting aroma of warm, gooey cookies which give them a sensation of home. Good smells draw people in and invite them to stay awhile. 2 Corinthians 2:16 in the Passion Translation says, “Through our yielded lives he spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of God everywhere we go. We have become the unmistakable aroma of the victory of the Anointed One to God – a perfume of life to those being saved.” What aroma is your life giving off to the people you work with? Not sure? “For when you die and are buried with your ancestors, I will raise up one of your descendants, your own offspring, and I will make his kingdom strong. He is the one who will build a house—a temple—for my name. And I will secure his royal throne forever.” (2 Samuel 7:12–13 NLT) Charting the rise and fall of empires is not always easy to determine, as there are overlapping or conflicting dates of when nations rise and fall. Generally speaking, though, the Western Roman Empire lasted just over 500 years, from 27 BC to AD 476. The Ottoman Empire lasted 623 years, from 1299 to 1922 (although its remnants can still be found in living rooms throughout the world). The Assyrian Empire, in its different forms, surpassed the millennium mark beginning in 2025 BC through the fall of the Neo-Assyrian Empire in 609 BC, it spanned more than 1,400 years. It’s hard to draw parallels between these empires or to say definitively why some endure longer than others. Some people might say the only real takeaway is that nothing lasts forever. But that’s not true. The passage from 2 Samuel 7 above records the promise God made to David, the king of Israel and “a man after God’s own heart.” God promised David that his kingdom—and that of his son and successor Solomon—would last forever. And it would last forever because their descendant would be the Messiah, the Son of God, who will rule for eternity. Psalm 89:29 offers a similar prophecy: “I will preserve an heir for him; his throne will be as endless as the days of heaven” (NLT). And Isaiah 9:7 says of the Anointed One, or Messiah, “His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!” (NLT). When you think of all the things that can go wrong in a nation, empire, or kingdom, the idea of one lasting forever seems nearly impossible. But that speaks to the nature of Christ’s kingdom. There will be no divisions, no corruption, no power plays, no dissatisfaction. The Lord will rule, and everyone in His kingdom will joyfully submit to Him. Revelation 21:4 says, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes, and there will be no more death or sorrow or crying or pain. All these things are gone forever” (NLT). That brings us to one more point that absolutely must be mentioned. Not only will Christ’s kingdom last forever, so will everyone in it. The apostle Paul wrote, “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord” (Romans 6:23 NLT). Jesus paid those wages when He gave His life on the cross in our place. His sacrifice makes it possible for us to live forever with Him. He said so Himself: “I am the resurrection and the life. Anyone who believes in me will live, even after dying. Everyone who lives in me and believes in me will never ever die” (John 11:25–26 NLT). If you have put your faith in Jesus Christ and have asked Him to forgive you of your sin, the Bible teaches that when you die, you will go immediately into the presence of God in Heaven. That is God’s promise to you. But God promises not only life beyond the grave; He also promises life during life—not just an existence, but a life worth living. Jesus said, “My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life” (John 10:10 NLT). That is the hope and promise for all Christians. That is why the believer does not have to be afraid to die. Or afraid to live. Reflection question: How do you know—or how can you know—that you will spend eternity with Christ in His kingdom? “O my people, listen to my instructions. Open your ears to what I am saying, for I will speak to you in a parable. I will teach you hidden lessons from our past.” (Psalm 78:1–2 NLT) Jesus’ twelve disciples had front-row seats to the most amazing three years in human history—the years of Jesus’ public ministry. They witnessed miracles that defied explanation. They heard the most profound truths ever spoken. They experienced life with the Son of God. They had access to the wisdom of the ages. But it wasn’t all fish and loaves. Discipleship had its challenges, too. The constant crowd control. The sneering contempt of the Jewish religious establishment. The threat of arrest by Roman authorities. One of the biggest challenges, though, had to be understanding Jesus’ parables. Often the disciples were the liaisons between Jesus and the people who came to hear Him speak. After one of His sermons or teaching sessions, those who couldn’t talk to Jesus Himself sought out His disciples. And it’s likely that one of the most frequently asked questions they fielded was, “What did Jesus mean by that parable?” That may explain why, in Matthew 13:10, they asked Him the question that many people still ask today: “Why do you use parables when you talk to the people?” (NLT). So why did Jesus speak in parables? You can make the case that He understood the power of imagery and analogy. The story of a wayward son, a lost coin, or even a mustard seed is more memorable than a three-point presentation. You can make the case that He wanted to open the eyes of His followers and help them see the world around them in a different way. To help them understand that there are spiritual truths to be found everywhere, even in things as mundane as a lost sheep or a barren fig tree. Or you can search Jesus’ reply in Matthew 13:10–17. Jesus spoke in parables to give people with a spiritual hunger something to feed on—and to make it harder for those whose ears had grown dull—and whose hearts had grown hard—to understand His message. But there’s another truth we can’t overlook. Jesus spoke in parables to fulfill the prophecy of Psalm 78. That’s why we read these words in Matthew 13:35: “This fulfilled what God had spoken through the prophet: ‘I will speak to you in parables. I will explain things hidden since the creation of the world’” (NLT). The more Jesus obscured certain parts of His message, the more clearly He revealed His identity. Anyone who had searched Scripture for prophecies of the Anointed One would have picked up on Jesus’ use of parables. And it stands to reason that those same people would have had “the ears to hear” the spiritual wisdom in those parables. That’s who Jesus was targeting. He spoke in parables because He wanted people to recognize Him as the Messiah. Jesus’ principal adversaries were looking for a different kind of Messiah. They were looking for someone who would support their religious system and their chosen way of living, someone who would cater to their whims and conform to their wishes. A lot of people today want Jesus, but they want Him on their own terms. They want the kind of Jesus who will not challenge them. So they do nothing to meet the living Savior. Don’t make that mistake. Embrace the challenge that Jesus offers. There is life in His words. Reflection question: Which of Jesus’ parables speaks most loudly to you and why? “Now listen and understand! Seven sets of seven plus sixty-two sets of seven will pass from the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem until a ruler—the Anointed One—comes. Jerusalem will be rebuilt with streets and strong defenses, despite the perilous times.” (Daniel 9:25 NLT) Daniel 9 begins with Daniel praying. This wasn’t unusual. Daniel prayed a lot. In Daniel 9, however, his prayer is especially urgent. Daniel had been in captivity in Babylon for about sixty-six years. Based on his understanding of the prophecies of Jeremiah, the captivity would end in less than four years. Daniel prayed for God to show mercy on His people, who were scattered throughout the land, and to restore the city of Jerusalem. Suddenly the angel Gabriel appeared to provide an answer (of sorts) to Daniel’s prayer. Gabriel revealed to Daniel a complex prophecy involving seventy sets of seven. There’s a lot of math involved, not to mention a conversion from the ancient calendar to the modern one, but here’s the basic gist of the prophecy. God’s people are given a timeframe of “seventy sets of seven.” Sixty-nine of those sets of seven will take place between the time the command is given to rebuild Jerusalem and the time a ruler—the Anointed One—enters the city. The final set of seven will take place when another ruler makes a treaty but then breaks it by defiling the temple. Each set of seven represents seventy years, for a total of 490 years. The prophecy then divides that period into three smaller ones—one of forty-nine years, one of 434 years, and one of seven years. This breakdown gives us a kind of clock for when the Messiah will return and what will be happening in the world when He does. But the timeline isn’t consecutive. It didn’t predict that Jesus would return in 490 years. There’s a break in it that makes it impossible to pin down. There are, however, some parts that lend themselves to specific interpretations. The first set of seven likely began on March 4, 444 BC. That’s the day Artaxerxes, the king of Persia, gave Nehemiah permission to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem (see Nehemiah 2:1–8). The construction process took 49 years. About 483 years later (in converted time), Jesus—the Messiah, the Anointed One—made His triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Within a week, He was crucified, fulfilling the prophecy of Daniel 9:26. Many people like to speculate on the final part of the prophecy, the final set of seven. They trade theories about the ruler who will emerge—the Antichrist—and how his evil reign will play out. But let’s not lose sight of the fact that Daniel was given a vision of Jesus—the Anointed One—and His saving work five hundred years before He was born. God’s timetable is perfect, from the rebuilding of Jerusalem’s walls to the coming of the Messiah to the final judgment and end of evil. We can trust Him to accomplish His will, in His way, in His time. And let’s not lose sight of our own responsibility. There are things we must be alert to as we live in the last days. As the apostle Paul wrote, “The night is almost gone; the day of salvation will soon be here. So remove your dark deeds like dirty clothes, and put on the shining armor of right living” (Romans 13:12 NLT). Your relationship with Jesus Christ needs constant maintenance and cultivation. The day that you stop growing spiritually is the day you will start to become weak and vulnerable to the devil’s attacks. The best way to not go backward is to keep moving forward. Reflection question: When have you seen God’s perfect timetable in your own life? Be Bold & Accept God's LoveRomans 8:35 “Who could ever divorce us from the endless love of God's Anointed One? Absolutely no one! For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love toward us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven's love. What about persecutions, deprivations, dangers, and death threats? No, for they are all impotent to hinder omnipotent love.”This is the passion translation again. I decided this morning to open it, read some of it, and see what jumped out at me. I really liked all of chapter 8, but I thought it best to limit it to a verse or two. It was tough to decide between this verse and the verses at the end of this section. This section in Chapter 8 is called “The Triumph of God's Love.” Can you tell just by the title why I loved all of it? The end of this section was similar to this verse, yet it said it in a different, equally compelling way. I will probably use those verses on Thursday or Friday, so stay tuned.I decided on this verse today because it drives home something that I try to help people see. Something I wish everyone in the world knew down deep in the depths of their hearts. God loves us ALWAYS, NO MATTER WHAT WE DO! The verse starts by asking us a question. “Who could ever divorce us from the endless love of God's Anointed One?” I like that it uses the word divorce, which is a word where, unfortunately, everyone knows the meaning. The verse answers that question with an, “Absolutely no one!” There is so much in that one sentence. That one sentence tells us that no one could ever divorce us from Jesus' love. Divorce means to separate something from something else. The verse is saying no one can separate us from the endless love of God's Anointed One. This tells us that the love is endless. It is not fickle like human love. It doesn't come and go with the changing of the winds or the changing of our moods. God's love is endless. The next line says, “For nothing in the universe has the power to diminish his love toward us. Troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven's love.” The first part was saying no one could come between us; now this verse says nothing can come between us. We might agree that no person could come between us and God, and yet we struggle to believe that nothing can come between us. We think our failures make it so God can't love us. We think our sins make it so God can't love us. This verse shows us that NOTHING in this universe has the power to diminish His love towards us.It even says that troubles, pressures, and problems are unable to come between us and heaven's love. I think it is really important to know this because what it doesn't say in this verse is no one, and nothing will try to come between us and heaven's love. You will find plenty of people that want to come between you and heaven's love. You will find plenty of things that the devil will use to try to come between you and heaven's love. If we know these things aren't strong enough to block God's love for us, we won't worry so much. We won't pay them so much attention. The enemy tries to convince us that every little thing we do makes us unworthy of God's love. He tries to convince us that God could never love us; look at all we have done. This is why it is important to read God's Word. It is important to know what the Lord is actually saying to us so we can stand up to the enemy and know when He is lying, which, by the way, is always! The last line in this verse says, “What about persecutions, deprivations, dangers, and death threats? No, for they are all impotent to hinder omnipotent love.” This last part is interesting. You might think, why would these things hinder God's love? I am not doing them; they are being done to me. For instance, persecution is hostility and ill-treatment, especially based on ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation, or political beliefs. Why would someone being hostile to me get in the way of God's love? The reason we think this is because of the things they say to us. Their primary purpose is to make us feel like we are not good enough. They want us to think God could never love us. This verse confirms that even if we might feel far from God because of deprivations, dangers, and death threats, He is still right there with us, and He is loving us no matter what.I love the language the last line uses. It says that all these enemy tactics are impotent to hinder God's love. Impotent means unable to take effective action; helpless or powerless. I love to think about how powerless the enemy and His tactics are to separate us from God's love. The only thing is, we have to know this, we have to believe this, and we have to live this. If we don't know this, we will believe the enemy's lies and think we are unloved. We will feel like we are unloved. When we believe the lie, we empower the liar. The enemy convinces many people that the Lord couldn't love them. We have to get His word out. We have to share what we know: that the Lord's love is endless and unconditional. Nothing we can do or anyone else can do can take it away from us. He loved us before we were born and will always love us!!Dear Heavenly Father, I ask you to bless all those listening today and all of their families. Lord, help us hear this message today and let it take root down deep in our hearts. Let us know that we know that we know that you love us always, and nothing can change that. Sermon given by Rev Barb Lemmel and Rev Mitch Hay on January 12, 2025Gospel -- Luke 3:15-17, 21-22The people were filled with anticipation, wondering in their hearts whether John might be the Messiah. John answered all of them by saying, "I baptize you with water; but one who is mightier than I is coming; I am not worthy to untie the thong of his sandals. He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and with fire."A winnowing-fork is in his hand to clear the threshing-floor and to gather the wheat into the granary; but the chaff will be burnt in unquenchable fire." Using exhortations like this, John proclaimed the Good News to the people. Now when all the people were baptized, Jesus also came to be baptized. And while Jesus was praying, the skies opened, and the Holy Spirit descended on the Anointed One in visible form, like a dove. And a voice came from heaven, "You are my Own, my Beloved; on you my favor rests."

As David flees from Saul, he flees to the LORD's presence. When he arrives before Ahimelech the priest, David requests nourishment for his men and himself. Ensuring the holiness of the men, recognizing the true purpose of the Sabbath, and looking forward to the coming greater Son of David, Ahimelech feeds David and his men with the bread of the Presence. David also takes the sword of Goliath and goes to the homeland of Goliath. However, David's time there is cut short by Philistine suspicion. All the while, the LORD protects David as His anointed in order to move history forward to His greater Anointed One, the Son of David, Jesus.  Rev. Dr. Brian Kachelmeier, pastor at Crown of Life Lutheran Church in San Antonio, TX, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study 1 Samuel 21:1-15.  "A Kingdom Unlike All the Nations” is a series on Sharper Iron that goes through 1-2 Samuel. This time in Israel's history has its highs and lows, but the LORD's faithfulness never wavers. He provides His Word to be proclaimed faithfully through prophets like Samuel and Nathan. Even as princes like Saul and David sit on an earthly throne, the LORD remains King over His people, even as He does now and forever through the Lord Jesus Christ. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

Up To Jerusalem - Teaching 3 Scripture - Luke 19:11-27, John 12:1-11, Psalm 45:4, 6-8, Mark 14:10-11, Hebrews 1:8-9 Jesus has set his face toward Jerusalem and will carry out  the heavenly Father's will. People were expecting the Kingdom of God to appear suddenly - political deliverance - a great king to rule - but Jesus continued to emphasize the difficulties that lie ahead as well as the glory that would come in the future.  Today's teaching begins with the Parable of the Mina. A mina is equivalent to 3-4 months pay. The story tells of a king and 10 servants, each are given a mina, the king goes away and then returns asking for an accounting of the mines each had been given. In this parable - Jesus is trying to show how he too will go away. The kingdom of God is coming - but the final fulfillment is in the future - His second return.  But while the king is away and we await His return - those of us that follow Him are called to wisely use what He has given us.   As Jesus continues heading “Up to Jerusalem” He stops in the town of Bethany to dine with friends: Mary, Martha, Lazarus and others. Just weeks earlier Jesus had raised Lazarus from the dead. During the meal, Mary pores expensive perfume on Jesus' feet - perfume worth about 1 year's wage. Judas speaks up that it was a waste of money that could have/should have gone to the poor, but Jesus speaks up in Mary's defense saying, “You will always have the poor but you will not always have Me.” Anointing with perfume had remarkable application and significance for devout Jewish people in the 1st century. They were eagerly anticipating the arrival of the Messiah - Messiah means the Anointed One and now Mary anoints Jesus. She even wipes His feet with her hair - showing complete surrender - she gave Jesus everything, possibly even her life savings in this act of devotion.  On the next day Jesus would be riding into Jerusalem on a donkey as their king to the cheers of Hosanna (Save Us!) - as Mary does the symbolic, prophetic act of anointing Jesus, she's not just showing devotion to Him and not just preparing His body for death, she is announcing to all that He's her King, she serves Him and that He is the fulfillment of the Scriptures. Judas is angered so much by Mary's act that he goes to the chief priests to betray Jesus. These chief priests had seen the miraculous healings, they knew of Jesus raising Lazarus, and they knew what people were saying about Jesus, but their own hearts were hardened. They wanted to kill Jesus and Lazarus as well. Mere recognition of something being true doesn't always change the heart and mind, only God changes them. Only when we encounter Jesus for who He really is are we then changed and that is an action of God. This is why we are called to be humble before God, to believe and repent and to follow him. The next day (Palm Sunday) Jesus rides into Jerusalem on a donkey. Did He still smell of the perfume Mary had put on Him? He was hailed with Hosannas and the waving of palm branches. Riding in on a donkey was a symbol of peace. Something else was coinciding with Jesus coming into Jerusalem on this specific day. This was the 10th Day of Nissan for the Jewish people, which was the day that all the lambs that would be sacrificed for the Passover in 4 days were herded into Jerusalem. The very day that Jesus, the Sacrificial Lamb of God, also enters the city. This is not a coincidence. And 4 days later as the lambs were slaughtered for the Passover meals to celebrate their freedom from bondage to Egypt, Jesus would be hung on the cross shedding His blood for our freedom from sin's bondage. Nothing here is coincidental. Jesus is the fulfillment of all the Father has promised!! 3 Key Events that lead to Jesus' arrest, death and crucifixion:     ⁃    Resurrection of Lazarus     ⁃    Anointing by Mary     ⁃    Jesus in the temple courts These three incidents enraged the chief priests and were the final straw in their desire to get rid of Him earlier than originally planned.  We will pick up next week with the cleansing of the temple.  Our website –  https://www.awakeusnow.com Watch the video from our website! https://www.awakeusnow.com/2-year-study-of-the-gospels-upper Watch the video from our YouTube Channel!! https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLTaaqrC3dMOzMkhPyiNWwlJRpV6Bwpu01 Up to Jerusalem is a study of the final weeks of Jesus' ministry concluding with His resurrection and ascension, using the books of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John together with material from ancient sources and recent discoveries.  Up to Jerusalem is part four of our Two Year Study of the Gospels. The Mountain E9 — The mountain theme shows up again and again in biblical narrative, but it's also prominent in the Psalms. Particularly in Psalms 15-24, the biblical authors reflect on the traits of the one who can ascend and dwell on God's holy mountain. At first, this question focuses on King David and his royal successors as they endure suffering, despair, and ultimately vindication, which leads to blessing for Israel and the nations. But eventually, it's not just the Davidic king but a whole community of the faithful ascending the mountain!
