Jesus' Death and Resurrection Tore the Veil that Stood Between You and a Personal Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY: With the “Veil torn”, Jesus wants your life-focus to be on following Him -- your life should be about impressing Him and not others. Jesus assumes that Jesus Followers will practice the piety of giving, praying, and fasting; therefore, they will do things in the right way and with the right motives. To this end in Matthew 6:16-18, Jesus instructed the Apostles in fasting: “And when you fast, do not look gloomy like the hypocrites, for they disfigure their faces that their fasting may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, that your fasting may not be seen by others but by your Father who is in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you.". Therefore, your worship and prayers should be about growing and deepening your personal relationship with God and not in consideration of others and their impressions of you. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, I come this day inviting you to cut those deeply entrenched chains that keep me from being faithful to my true self in Christ. In doing so, may my life be a blessing to many. In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 44). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, Because of who I am in Jesus Christ, I will not be driven by Hatred. Rather, I will abide in the Lord's Love. “I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in Me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5). In this podcast we will explore what Proverbs 21:31 means and the lessons that can be learned. Presented by Nathan Willoughby
this episode, we explore the profound and timeless truth of reconciliation with our Heavenly Father—made possible by grace through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ. Grounded in Romans 5 and tracing the narrative back to Genesis, we uncover God's original design for intimate communion with humanity as it was in the Garden of Eden.Together, we examine how sin entered the world and severed that perfect fellowship, and how God, in His mercy, established a path of forgiveness through the Old Testament priestly system. From there, we see the ultimate fulfillment of that plan in Jesus Christ, who willingly bore the punishment for sin—once and for all, for all people, for all time.Yet the message doesn't end with forgiveness. God's desire reaches beyond reconciliation; He longs for a vibrant, personal, and ongoing relationship with each of us. This episode invites you to rediscover the heart of the gospel and the hope it offers—a restored relationship with the God who created, loves, and redeems.Tune in for a deeply encouraging and foundational exploration of what it truly means to be reconciled to God through faith.

"Being Christian is not the result of an ethical choice or a lofty idea, but the encounter with an event, a person, which gives life a new horizon and a decisive direction." - Pope Benedict XVI Summary Every one of us is on a journey towards eternity. Our life here on earth, our vocation, our careers, our relationships are all just ways that we can grow in our knowledge of ourselves and of God. But many of us struggle to learn how we can stretch ourselves and prioritize our own spiritual growth. In this podcast, we share our own stories of conversation moments and how our spiritual practices have changed and matured over the years. We hope this will give you some inspiration and ideas of how you can come closer to God our Loving Father and see that none of us are ever "done". We are all on a journey towards our eternal home. Key Takeaways To be a good mother or father you must first know who you are as a beloved son or daughter. Do things that put yourself in that place to receive from God such as mass, regular confession, and staying in a state of grace. Be honest about where you are in your season of life. Adopt spiritual practices accordingly Our perception of God is colored by our experience of our parents. Do we see God as having high or low expectations of us? Do we see God giving us high or low support to achieve those expectations? The most healthy relationship has high expectations and high support to achieve them. Recognize that we are constantly growing and maturing in our relationship with God and others. Growth takes time! Couple Discussion Questions What is our perception of God and the Church? Where are we right now in our relationship with Him? How can we as spouses help each other grow in our relationship with both? Resources Go here to purchase these books! https://amzn.to/3O6ce8V

For Jesus Followers, Fasting, with Food, Will Symbolize a Victory Over Oneself and Solidify a Personal Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY: In the early Christian Church, which was under great stress and constant physical danger, God's direction and blessing was needed. Therefore, fasting was considered by Church leaders as a key element of their communion with God when they needed both His direction and blessing, as we find in Acts 14:23: “And when they had appointed elders for them in every church, with prayer and fasting they committed them to the Lord in whom they had believed.". As a challenge, "consider the food issue" in your life, especially when you need God's direction in your life, because food has such a stronghold on us. Fasting and tithing can significantly deepen your personal relationship with God because fasting is not easy; but success in fasting, especially with food, can symbolize your victory over yourself and solidify your commitment to your personal relationship with God. TODAY'S PRAYER: Lord, Sabbath rest is truly an unbelievable gift! Thank you that there is nothing I can do to earn your love; it comes without any strings attached. As I close my eyes for these few minutes before you, all I can say is, thank you! In Jesus' name, amen. Scazzero, Peter. Emotionally Healthy Spirituality Day by Day (p. 133). Zondervan. Kindle Edition. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him! All Have Temptation, Which Is Not the Sin; But Jesus Followers Can Resist All Temptation Through Their Faith and Relationship with God MESSAGE SUMMARY: You will be tempted again and again, but the temptation itself is not the sin. The sin resides in your grabbing onto the temptation; dwelling on the temptation; and following through on the temptation. Jesus was tempted, and He {Jesus} always faced temptation by quoting scripture to the temptation source. As Jesus tells you about Temptation and sin in Matthew 18:7-8: “Woe to the world for temptations to sin! For it is necessary that temptations come, but woe to the one by whom the temptation comes! And if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire.". From James 1:13, we know that God does not create the temptation we face: “Let no one say when he is tempted, ‘I am being tempted by God,' for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one.". Since all are tempted, it is great to know, from 1 Corinthians 10:13, that Jesus Followers will not be tempted beyond their capability to resist the temptation and act on it through sinning: “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it." You can follow Jesus' example by using scripture to deal with a temptation – there is scripture to deal with every temptation that you may face. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because I am in Jesus Christ, I will seek God's perspective on my situation. For I know that in all things God works together for good to those of us who love Him and are called according to His purpose. Do You Struggle with Your “Prayer Life”? Find a Quiet Place for Your Personal Relationship with God and Pray to the Universe's Creator MESSAGE SUMMARY: Do you struggle with your “Prayer Life”, even though you know it is the most important component of a life lived as a Jesus Follower? Abraham provides you with a model for a “Prayer Life” that works. Abraham was an awesome man, and he had things happen in his life that were both important for him and humankind down through the ages as a resultant of his “Prayer Life”. For the development of your own “Prayer Life”, you can learn from Abraham's “Prayer Life”. One of the first things Abraham did, when he went to a new location or was in a new situation, was to build an altar to the Lord and call on the Lord's name in prayer. In Genesis 12:8, Abraham's focus on and the priority given to his “Prayer Life” is described: “From there he {Abraham}moved to the hill country on the east of Bethel and pitched his tent, with Bethel on the west and Ai on the east. And there he built an altar to the LORD and called upon the name of the LORD.". Prayer was a priority for Abraham to build a place for God in his life and for his personal relationship with God. A way you can follow Abraham's example is to find an altar, a church, or a quiet place in your life to worship and pray, and to call upon the Lord's name like Abraham. TODAY'S AFFIRMATION: Today, I affirm that because of what God has done for me in His Son, Jesus, I AM A CHILD OF GOD. Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His Name, He gave the right to become children of God-- children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God. The apostles approach Jesus with a heartfelt plea: “Increase our faith!”—only to receive an enigmatic answer about uprooting a sycamore tree and planting it in the sea. In this episode, we'll unearth the astonishing symbolism of the sycamore, wrestle with the original Greek, and peel back centuries of rabbinic wisdom to grasp just how radical Jesus' words are. Along the way, we'll tackle the age-old question: Is God not answering my prayer because I lack faith? Linking our Gospel reading with the cry of Habakkuk and the hope of the Psalms, we'll dig deep to discover what true faith and servant-hearted discipleship really mean.Diving deep into our Gospel, we'll spend our episode looking closer at:The fascinating rabbinic tradition that forbade planting a sycamore tree within 37 feet of a cistern because of its enormous root system, and how Jesus upends this cultural fact in his teaching on faith [00:17:45]The striking comparison between mustard seed-sized faith moving mountains in Matthew's Gospel and, uniquely in Luke, uprooting a tree that can live 500 years, illuminating just how bold and impossible the acts of faith Jesus describes really are [00:19:05]The deeper meaning behind Jesus' answer that faith isn't about getting what we want, but about uniting our will to God's even after “a long day of plowing,” challenging any notion of faith as a spiritual insurance policy for answered prayers [00:40:17]The compelling Old Testament backdrop from the Book of Habakkuk, where the prophet demands to know why God seems to simply gaze at evil rather than act, and God's unexpected answer about faith and hope [00:46:53]How the Psalm selection for the Sunday connects Israel's exile longing with our spiritual waiting, urging us not to “harden your hearts” as the Israelites did at Meribah in the desert, and instead to nurture hope in God's future deliverance [00:56:37](Mass Readings for Oct 5, 2025)For the full show notes including citations and small group discussion questions, visit: kptz.io/27OT-C25

Are you exhausted from trying to be a “better Christian,” follow all the rules, or just fix yourself? In this episode, Heather Creekmore dives into the age-old dilemma every believer faces: Am I supposed to be working on me—and if so, how much of it is up to me, and how much is God’s job? Inspired by the Crowder song “He’s Working on Me Still,” Heather explores the difference between self-powered striving and Spirit-powered transformation. Using honest stories, biblical wisdom (especially from Galatians 5), and practical illustrations, she helps Christian women understand why hustling for holiness leaves us tired—and how true freedom and growth comes when we move from “I’m working on me” to “He’s working on me.” In This Episode: Why spiritual striving, religious rule-following, and willpower can’t bring long-term freedom How diet culture mindsets sneak into our faith and make us rely on formulas instead of God What it means to step out of the driver’s seat and let God be in control (with relatable analogies and humor) The power of relationship over religion and why faith is more than just “doing all the things” How to recognize if your spiritual life is based on head knowledge, not heart transformation Practical steps to move from self-reliance to Spirit-dependence—including honest reflection questions and the importance of daily worship Key Takeaway:Stop striving for self-improvement and start leaning into God’s grace. When we let go of self-reliance and invite the Holy Spirit to lead, we experience true rest, freedom, and lasting spiritual growth. When maintaining our relationship with God, we must keep one thing in mind above all else: Gratitude is the core of a healthy relationship with God. When the Hebrews were wandering in the desert, ingratitude led them to an unnecessary additional forty years before entering their promised land. The key to gratitude is remember who God is, and all He has done.
Your kids head back to school… and suddenly, everyone's coughing. The runny noses, the fevers, the endless cycle of bringing germs home—it's part of family life. That was us this week. Sick again. Tired again. And honestly? It's frustrating. But in the middle of it, I realized something: even when our bodies feel weak, Jesus is still looking out for us.Just like a parent who keeps watch when their kids are sick, God doesn't step away when life wears us down. He's steady. He's faithful. And He cares for us in every season—even the germy ones.In this episode, we talk about finding God's presence in the everyday struggles, how even sickness can remind us of our need for Him, and why His care is constant.

Many of us wonder if faith can just stay between “me and God.” But as Pastor Shannon reminds us, the gospel has always been an invitation meant to be shared. Drawing from Jesus' parables and the account of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8, we see that God's design is for our faith to transform not just us—but the people around us. Listen in as we talk about: Why faith can't remain hidden How invitations open the door to transformation The importance of bold witness in a world full of struggle and pain Whether you're exploring faith, recommitting, or simply wrestling with the question yourself, this conversation is for you.
Andre and I discuss personal experiences with prayer, the transition from Catholic prayers to a more personal connection with God, and the importance of gratitude in prayer. The conversation delves into overcoming anxiety related to prayer, understanding spiritual warfare, and the process of building a relationship with God through communication. Worship Pastor Dave Chow will speak about how we have so many decisions to make this fall (and all the time!). How do we do it? Ask God! To enter into an authentic relationship with God, we need to learn to hear His voice and understand His will for our lives through Bible reading and personal interaction with the Holy Spirit. Dave will use 2 Timothy 3:16-17 as his scripture reference.
Fr. Mike explains sins of omission, and how these are some of the biggest deciding factors of who goes to heaven and who goes to hell: whether or not we did good works God called us to. He also reminds us that not all of the New Testament parables are universally relevant, recalling the parable of the talents and the parable of the wise and foolish maidens. Today's readings are Matthew 25-26 and Proverbs 19:21-24. For the complete reading plan, visit ascensionpress.com/bibleinayear. This message continues our Like Him | For Others series by unpacking the Cycle of Grace—a pattern of relating to God that begins with His acceptance, not our achievements. Too often, we flip the cycle, starting with fruitfulness or performance in hopes of feeling significant and accepted. But Jesus shows us a different way: He lived from His Father's love, sustained by spiritual rhythms, confident in His significance, and bearing fruit that lasted. When we start with grace, our lives are grounded in God's love and freed from shame, pride, and performance-driven faith. Eric challenged us to examine whether our relationship with God is built on His acceptance or our achievements—and to embrace habits that remind us daily of His grace. This is the only way we can become like Him, for others.

In this compelling episode of "Father and Joe," hosts Father Boniface and Joe Rockey delve into the profound concept of what it truly means to make an offering to God during Mass. Often perceived as just the physical gifts like bread and wine, this episode uncovers the depth of offering our entire lives—including our emotions and experiences—as a symbolic gesture transubstantiated into the body and blood of Christ. Joe shares his transformative realization that the offerings are not limited to tangible items but encompass the entirety of our lives, our struggles, and our joys. Father Boniface elaborates on the notion of negativity and how it is an intrinsic part of human life. Drawing from the Psalms and the example of Our Lady's sorrows, he explains how God not only understands these emotions but provides us with the means to express them through sacred scripture. The conversation navigates through the delicate balance of honesty in our relationship with God, examining how these emotions, though perceived as significant in our lives, may not impact God in the same way. Yet, Father Boniface emphasizes that God, being outside of time, provides a pathway for us to offer everything to Him, making our human experience a worthy offering. Ultimately, listeners are invited to embrace the idea that it's not about the perfection of what we offer but the wholehearted surrender of our entire selves to God. The episode concludes with a poignant reminder that the courage to present everything to God—good, bad, and ugly—is central to nurturing a profound and intimate relationship with the divine. Father Boniface encourages a posture of trust, surrender, and honesty, reflecting on our eternal role as God's children, always welcome to bring our whole selves to the altar. This episode inspires listeners to carry this understanding into their lives, fostering a deeper sense of comfort and courage in their spiritual journey.Tags: Spirituality, Faith, Christian Living, Mass, Eucharist, Spiritual Growth, Offering, Transformation, Faith Journey, Emotional Growth, Religious Understanding, Divine Offering, God and Emotions, Relationship with God, Lament in Faith, Childlike Trust, Human Experience, Spiritual Honesty, Spiritual Direction, Religious Life, Scripture and Emotion, Mass offering, Bread and Wine, Transubstantiation, Vulnerability, Trust in God, Spiritual Challenges, Faith in Struggles, God's Presence, Eucharist Understanding, Mass Experience, Sacramental Life, Honest Prayers, Father Boniface Hicks, Joe Rockey, Communal Worship, God and Pain, Spiritual Dialogue, Faith GuidanceHashtags: #Spirituality, #Faith, #ChristianLiving, #Mass, #Eucharist, #SpiritualGrowth, #Offering, #Transformation, #FaithJourney, #EmotionalGrowth, #ReligiousUnderstanding, #DivineOffering, #GodAndEmotions, #RelationshipWithGod, #LamentInFaith, #ChildlikeTrust, #HumanExperience, #SpiritualHonesty, #SpiritualDirection, #ReligiousLife, #ScriptureAndEmotion, #MassOffering, #BreadAndWine, #Transubstantiation, #Vulnerability, #TrustInGod, #SpiritualChallenges, #FaithInStruggles, #GodsPresence, #EucharistUnderstanding, #MassExperience, #SacramentalLife, #HonestPrayers, #FatherBonifaceHicks, #JoeRockey, #CommunalWorship, #GodAndPain, #SpiritualDialogue, #FaithGuidanceThis line is here to correct the site's formatting error.
The culture is shifting, and the season has changed. It can be agitating and frightening, but it means something else, too: Jesus' return is drawing closer. In this sermon, Pastor Allen Jackson discusses how we can be prepared for our Lord's return. The Bible tells us that deception and conflict, both physical and spiritual, will increase as the End of the Age approaches. Pastor Allen shows how we see this in our world today, then he shares God's instructions for standing firm. Living in the truth of God's Word and relying on His wisdom and peace will be essential. We've been asked to overcome a number of daunting things—our own carnal desires, evil, Satan's kingdom—but God hasn't left us alone. We can trust in the Lion of Judah.
