On March 14, 1998, at a farmhouse in Strong City, Oklahoma, 39-year-old Leonard Dirickson sat down for breakfast with his teenage son. As they were cleaning up, they were interrupted by a mysterious stranger in a truck, inquiring about a horse for sale.  It had been a tough few years for their family farm, so Leonard told his son he was going to leave with the man in hopes of selling one of their horses on another property and that he'd be back that afternoon. But Leonard remains missing to this day in one of the most puzzling cases in Oklahoma history. Leonard Neal Dirickson was 39 years old when he was last seenon March 14, 1998, at his home in Strong City, Oklahoma. He was seen getting into a newer or possibly a 1994 white Ford F150 pickup truck with an unknown man. He told his son that they were headed to Mobeetie, Texas, and Elk City, Oklahoma, to look at horses. Leonard is white, about 6 feet tall, and weighed approximately 200 pounds at the time of his disappearance, with brown hair and a red handlebar mustache. He has grey eyes and a small scar under one eye. He was last seen wearing a brown cap with a green bill and an ACCO feeds logo, a faded black Carhartt brand coat, green jeans, and black and brown shoes or boots. The unidentified man Leonard was last seen with has been described as white, about 6'2”, around 40 years old, and approximately 210lbs with a reddish-brown beard, a long nose, dark eyes, and a thick, round face. He was seen wearing blue jeans, a striped western shirt, a blue jacket, and a cap with the words “No Fear” on the front. He may be right-handed and smokes cigarettes, possibly Marlboro Lights. A sketch has been created and circulated for further reference.   Anyone with information is asked to call the Roger Mills County Sheriff's Office at 580-497-2417. Episode 189: The Thread Written By Andrew Waller and Mike Gagerman This month's episode features The Thread, written by Andrew Waller and Mike Gagerman, the second of two dead pilots built around a shared group text that's been running for years. Here is the log line for this show, A modern ensemble comedy about a group of longtime friends leading diverse chaotic lives who stay connected through a long running daily text thread. Waller and Gagerman previously wrote the cult favorite film Search Party and were behind one of the first viral serialized Twitter threads, Shh… Don't Tell Steve. They're currently developing Last Chance Lawyer for NBC, with Henry Winkler attached to star. The pilot feels authentic and grounded, capturing the accumulated history, shorthand, and emotional honesty of friendships that have lasted for decades. Coming up next week is the interview with Andrew and Mike, followed by a four-way discussion the week after with Andrew, Mike, Aaron Brownstein, and Simon Ganz, the writers of last month's pilot, Guy Text. The cast includes Matt Porter (Family Guy, Good Cop / Great Cop), Krysta Rodriguez (Smash, Halston), Paul Telfer (Vampire Diaries; Days of Our Lives), Andrew Leeds (Ghosts, Barry), Suzy Nakamura (Exploding Kittens, Dead to Me), Beth Stelling (comedian), Malcolm Barrett (The Boys, Timeless), Daniel DiMaggio (American Housewife), Brittany Curran (The Magicians), and Neska Rose (Drama Club). Video of the Zoom table read is available exclusively to Maximum Fun members. Breakneck Through the Bible · Rabbi Bentzi Epstein

Abraham comes back from the battle. The king of Sodom is waiting with an offer: keep all the wealth, just return the people.Abraham won't touch any of it. Not a thread, not a shoe strap. He refuses to let anyone claim they made him rich. But someone else is there too. Melchizedek, king of Salem. He's actually Shem, Noah's son, and he's the high priest. He brings out bread and wine and offers Abraham a blessing. But he makes a critical mistake. He blesses Abraham first, before blessing G-d, and this costs him everything. The priesthood is taken from his line and given to Abraham's descendants forever.Abraham's refusal of the spoils brings its own reward. From that thread and shoelace come two commandments: tzitzit and tefillin. Eternal reminders woven into Jewish life.Twenty-six years later, the same group that Abraham returned to the king of Sodom would be destroyed when fire rained down on Sodom and Gomorrah. The Talmud says Abraham shouldn't have done that. He should have kept them and set them free. The episode digs into a question we all face: how much do we do ourselves, and how much do we trust G-d? Abraham left guards at his base when he went after the four kings. Smart strategy or lack of faith? It depends. What's right for one person at one spiritual level might be wrong for someone else. This is about knowing when to act and when to let go, why even the righteous stumble, and how one reversed blessing changed everything.

Mary Chapin Carpenter's latest album, 'Personal History,' is as lush in production and color as the beautiful farmland she calls home in Virginia. Carpenter will often wake up early for sunrise walks with her dog, Angus, and one of several daily cups of coffee (of course) to start the day. In our Basic Folk conversation, she reflects on how living in this serene farmhouse has brought her peace, drawing parallels to Carl Sandberg's "creative hush." Mary Chapin also discusses her method of "song walking" as a tool to overcome writer's block, often accompanied by her pets. She goes on to touch on her evolving relationship with fame and the importance of surrounding herself with grounded people; she reveals her younger self was shy, and talks about how being less concerned with others' opinions has empowered her over time. We cover her connection to the Celtic music community and how it inspired her collaborative album 'Looking for the Thread' with Scottish musicians Julie Fowlis and Karine Polwart. That record was her first with Josh Kaufman as producer and it worked so well, she decided to have him produce her new solo album, too. We also chat about "hyphen-gate," due to her double first name, the process of feeling visible and valued, and the impact of Elizabeth Strout on her perspective of songwriting.Follow Basic Folk on social media: https://basicfolk.bio.link/Sign up for Basic Folk's newsletter: https://bit.ly/basicfolknewsHelp produce Basic Folk by contributing: https://basicfolk.com/donate/Interested in sponsoring us? Send us a textThe room was hot, the jokes were flying, and then the story landed: a no‑show “support” group sparked a Thread post that filled a room with twelve hungry creators. That moment became Influence Society—a Charlotte‑born, no‑gatekeeping collective where members share contacts, swap media kits and rate cards, and actually get each other in the room. We dig into how they structure rollouts, set expectations with venues, and decide when not to post, especially when comps don't match deliverables. If you've ever wondered how to pitch better, negotiate fair value, or avoid messy lounge collabs, this is a blueprint built from trial, receipts, and honest debriefs. We also get personal. These women juggle nursing shifts, a salon lease, boxing classes, and parenting while building audiences with under 1,000 followers—proof that engagement and consistency beat vanity metrics. They walk us through joining criteria (content over follower count), why the group “sweeps” inactive members, and how sharing an airline collab lead in the chat opened paid doors for others. The vision is bold: expand to Dallas and beyond, become the directory brands trust, and get creators paid—because salmon bites and sugary cocktails don't cover editing hours. Then we pivot into intimacy and vulnerability. Intimacy isn't just sex; it's emotional, intellectual, experiential, and psychological connection. Fear often looks like humor, low‑maintenance posturing, or hyper‑independence. The talk gets real about men's mental health, generational conditioning around crying, and why awareness comes before fixing. In a world of surface‑level connections and endless pitching, that kind of depth might be the competitive edge creators need most.If you're building a creator career in Charlotte (or any city), this conversation delivers tangible tactics and the emotional tools to sustain them. Donald Trump will never accept losing anything – whether an election or a bet. But that wouldn't matter if he didn't convince millions of Americans to make his grievances their own.  This Ball of Thread unwinds what made the pincer attack that overran the Capitol on January 6th possible. Donald Trump's grievance narratives gave disaffected Americans meaning, and in that meaning, he convinced thousands of people to throw their lives away in his name. The thing is, it's all the same con. That con defeated the Russia investigation and weaponized the Department of Justice against his opponent. And when he lost in 2020, he unleashed it to unite fringe right-wing groups and mainstream Republicans in a shared revenge fantasy. Thus, he was able to raise a ragtag army to sack the nation's Capitol briefly, and in the process, savagely battered hundreds of police officers and ended America's tradition of a peaceful transfer of power. Though the attack ultimately failed by only delaying the certification of Joe Biden's victory, the bets Trump and many of his biggest fans made on January 6, 2021 are now paying off in ways that were inconceivable on January 6, 2025.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a far cry from the team that started 6–2 with wins over the Seahawks and 49ers. This group is getting worse, not better, and Todd Bowles does not appear to have the answers. After the loss in Miami, Bowles now sits at 34–33 as head coach, with losing records in two of his four seasons. Now the Bucs no longer control their own fate. Even a win over the Panthers may not be enough, as Tampa Bay needs the Saints to beat a Falcons team coming off a big primetime win over the Rams. If Atlanta wins, the Bucs are eliminated, and the NFC South crown goes to Carolina in what would be a messy and underwhelming finish to the season.

It's a key conflict site where Norway's net zero transformation collides with its fossil fuel industry, Indigenous rights, the youth climate movement, worker safety, and even criticism from the United Nations.  For more information and references: https://communicatingclimatechange.com/the-black-thread Learn more about your ad choices. As we reflect after Christmas, we turn to the journey of the Magi—wise seekers drawn by a star and led to the Savior (Matthew 2:1–12). Their worship reminds us that Jesus came not just for one nation, but for the world. In Psalm 86, David declares that no other god compares to the Lord, whose steadfast love extends to all who call upon Him. This week, we remember that God's grace reaches across every border and barrier. Hope is not limited—it's global, generous, and gracious. As the Magi knelt in awe, so too we are invited to bow before the King who welcomes all and that is our Thread of Hope.

At around 1:00 am on December 25, 1945, Jennie Sodder woke up to smoke pouring into her bedroom. She woke up her husband, George, and they started evacuating the house of their nine children. By the time the fire took over the Sodder residence, only Jennie, George, and four of their children made it outside safely. George and two of his sons frantically tried to get into the house to save the remaining children, but they couldn't. When George went to fill up a bucket with water to start extinguishing the flames, the water was frozen, when he went to grab their ladder to get his children from the top story, the ladder was missing; when he went to drive his trucks to the second story window, neither would start despite having worked just the day before. And when they tried to call the fire department for help, no one responded for hours. The only thing the family could do was watch as their home burned to the ground. Hours later, after the smoldering ashes were put out, a group of people began searching for the children's remains, but nothing was found. Not a single bone was found in the ashes. The fire was quickly ruled an accident, and investigators told the family the children's bodies had burned up completely in the fire, leaving nothing of them behind, not even their bones. But between the mishaps, while trying to put out the fire, threats made against the family before the fire, and the strange behavior of authorities throughout the investigation, Jennie and George Sodder refused to believe five of their children were killed in the home. They were convinced their children didn't die in the fire, and they spent the rest of their lives trying to prove it. Barb McQuade hosts #SistersInLaw to celebrate the DOJ's 3rd consecutive failure to indict NY AG Letitia James, review the law governing mortgages that they are targeting her with, and call out their other recent losses, spanning James Comey to Kilmar Abrego Garcia.  Then, the #Sisters discuss Judge Charles Breyer's preliminary injunction that will expel the National Guard from Los Angeles and place limits on Trump's ability to use them as his personal police force.  They also cover the Supreme Court precedent that prevents people with intellectual disabilities from being sentenced to death in criminal cases, explain how intellectual ability is determined, and weigh whether that limit will apply in the case of Atkins v. On the night of April 20, 1989, a desolate stretch of highway near Circle, Montana, was plunged into chaos. After a head-on collision, Patricia Meehan emerged from the wreckage, dazed but seemingly unharmed. She was not frantic or crying for help. Instead, she was unnervingly silent.  Patricia then climbed a fence, watched the aftermath for a moment, and walked away into the Montana night, sparking a decades-long mystery fueled by thousands of sightings across the country.  Anyone with information is asked to call the McCone County Sheriff's Office at 406-485-3405.
