In this episode of the Ideology Podcast, Drew and Mick dive into the fascinating world of apologetics – the defense of the Christian faith through reason and argument. But this conversation is a bit different. Drew brings an ambivalent perspective, exploring the complexities of defending faith in a world full of competing truth claims. Why do some find apologetics helpful, and others, not so much? How do we navigate the tension between faith and reason, between historical evidence and personal belief? The episode explores these challenges and asks critical questions about the foundations of truth. Is apologetics a way to strengthen our faith, or could it inadvertently lead us to rely too heavily on human reason?Listen in as Drew and Mick unpack how we justify belief, from cosmological and teleological arguments to historical evidence of the resurrection. They also discuss Alvin Plantinga's ideas on "warranted Christian belief" and reflect on how personal experiences of God shape our understanding of truth.Connect with us:Email: ideologypc@gmail.comYoutube/Instagram: @ideologypcFeel free to share, subscribe, rate, and/or commentResources referenced:Warranted Christian Belief by Alvin PlantingaThe Resurrection of Jesus: A New Historiographical Approach by Michael R. Does the Bible have contradictions that undermine it's reliability? This is a big question apologists have dealt with since the 2nd century. In Jesus, Contradicted, Dr. Michael Licona argues that the genre of ancient biography, to which the Gospels belong, actually allows biographers to be flexible in how they report events, construct a narrative, and make an argument. We go in-depth on the unique approach in his book and consider some of the BIG objections raised against it. Enjoy! Respond Podcast Episode 3 - “The Curious Evidence” Presenter: Stuart Gray, @stuhgray Guest Presenters: Jill Parkinson Andy Gatt Roniel Bulacan Joe Blake There are three occurrences that need to be explained. 1. Jesus' Tomb was Empty 1.1 Reported in the earliest sources. (1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Mark's gospel) 1.2 The story is simple and lacks legendary development. 1.3 Christianity was birthed where the tomb was. 1.4 The earliest Jewish reactions presuppose the empty tomb. 2. Jesus Made Post Mortem Appearances to his Friends 2.1 Reported in the earliest sources (1 Corinthians 15:3-8, Luke's Gospel) 2.2 James, the brother of Jesus, moves from skeptic to Christian leader (Acts 1, 21) 2.3 Saul turned from persecutor to Christian evangelist (Acts 9) 3. The Christian Church Existed in the First Century 3.1 The apostles understanding of “Messiah” was changed after the resurrection 3.2 The Christian church was launched. All the historical evidence for the resurrection of Jesus agree on these three facts.
