In this episode, Mikel Del Rosario and Michael Licona discuss the challenge of Bible contradictions, focusing on why the Gospels tell the same story differently. Discover how compositional devices in Greco-Roman biographies (like spotlighting and transferral) can help us appreciate what God has given us in Gospel texts and see that differences do not always equal contradictions. Dr. Mike Licona of Houston Christian University joins Sarah and Evan to look at his new book, Jesus, Contradicted. The book is an easier to read version of Licona's doctoral work that challenges the assertions of unbelievers concerning "contradictions" in the New Testament. Licona argues that the Gospels are ancient biographies and, as such, have content that reflects that genre. Thanks to Dr. Licona for joining us!
Send us a textWe sit down with New Testament scholar Dr. Michael Licona ( @MikeLiconaOfficial ) to discuss his book Jesus, Contradicted: Why the Gospels Tell the Same Story Differently. Dr. Licona tackles one of the most common objections to the reliability of the Gospels: their apparent discrepancies. Instead of forcing strained harmonizations, Licona explains how the Gospels fit within the genre of ancient biography, allowing for narrative flexibility. He compares the Gospel accounts with the works of Plutarch and other ancient sources, showing how common literary techniques of the time account for differences in reporting. We'll also explore how these differences align with the doctrines of divine inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. Don't miss this fascinating conversation that brings clarity to the complexities of the Gospel narratives!Book: https://a.co/d/5qw5mzB
Dr. Weaver speaks on the tragic consequences that result from denying the inspiration and inerrancy of Scripture. He cites example after example of churches, denominations, and seminaries who have abandoned the orthodox teaching on inerrancy which ultimately leads to the abandonment of other orthodox teachings of Scripture, including the resurrection of Christ, the virgin birth, substitutionary atonement and much more!
In this episode, Dr. T. Michael W. Halcomb ( @tmichaelwhalcomb ) interviews Dr. Mike Licona about his new book "Jesus, Contradicted." They discuss a wide range of topics from the supposed contradictions in Scripture, the historicity of the resurrection, Bart Ehrman, inspiration, inerrancy, etc. This is one you won't want to miss. Do most Christians have the wrong definition of inerrancy? You may have noticed some pretty significant discrepancies between the different Gospel accounts in the New Testament—discrepancies that skeptic Bart Ehrman didn't hesitate to point out during past debates with Dr. William Lane Craig, Jimmy Akin, AND today's guest! Is there a way for Bible-believing Christians to harmonize these variations, or should we throw out the concept of Bible inerrancy altogether? This week, author, Christian apologist, and New Testament scholar Dr. Mike Licona sits down with Frank to expose the truth about "errors" in the Bible, specifically tackling some of Bart Ehrman's objections to the reliability of the New Testament. He'll also discuss the release of his new book, 'Jesus, Contradicted: Why the Gospels Tell the Same Story Differently', which is a resource aimed to help Christians navigate through textual variances. During the episode, Frank and Mike will answer questions like:What is the true meaning of divine inspiration? What is the Chicago Statement of Inerrancy, and what are some of its shortcomings?Did God dictate to the Gospel authors? Are there errors in the original Bible manuscripts? What is literary spotlighting, and how does it apply to the Resurrection narratives?Buckle your seatbelts, friends, because this podcast episode is likely going to make you uncomfortable by challenging much of what you've been taught (or assumed) about biblical inerrancy. Is it okay that the Bible doesn't have camera-like accuracy in some places? Listen as Dr. Licona helps us to take a fresh look at the doctrine of inerrancy and then decide for ourselves. Today we interview best-selling author Dr. Mike Licona - a Youtuber and college professor who specializes in the resurrection of Jesus. Dr. Licona went through a long period of doubt - while in seminary! - and came through the other side convinced that Jesus historically rose from the dead. How did that transformation happen? Dr. Licona also discusses his relationship with his mentor Dr. Gary Habermas, probably the foremost expert on the resurrection in the world.
In part two of our interview with Mike Licona, we discuss his seven hour debate with religion scholar and skeptic Dr. Bart Ehrman. What caused Ehrman to abandon his faith and become an aggressive critic of Christianity? Dr. Licona also shares how he discusses faith and the resurrection of Jesus with skeptics and strangers.

Aaron Shelenberger who studied under Mike Licona at Southern Evangelical Seminary in Charlotte, North Carolina, shares about his research on the historicity of the resurrection. In particular, his thesis tackled three main objections brought forth by popular author and anti-Christian Bart Ehrman. Now, I realize this episode and the next two that follow are a tad technical, so if that's not your jam, then you may want to skip them. However, what I've noticed in the past is that our most technical episodes tend to get lots of downloads. In our conversation today we discuss the importance of resurrection and how Ehrman's attack on the reliability of the Gospels fails to undermine the case for the resurrection. Also, I bring up Licona's somewhat controversial book, Why Are There Differences in the Gospels and get Shelenberger's take on it. Virginia Grise, Adela Licona and Kemi Sijuwade-Ukadike in conversation with Colette LaBouff explore the following questions: what is possible beyond the play, how to make art accessible to audiences, what should administrative support for artists look like, and what is art in the time of diminishing democracy? Finally, how do all these questions relate to the idea of art as coalitional gesture. Virginia Grise is a theatre artist. Adela Licona has decades of experience in higher education, feminist and intersectional leadership, community organizing, and the arts. 0013 - In this episode I look at the evidence that Jesus rose from the dead. I use the work of Gary Habermas and Mike Licona from their book, "The Case for the Resurrection of Jesus," to make the case that Jesus did rise from the dead. I look at five of the facts that almost all scholars agree on and how the best explanation of those five facts is that Jesus rose from the dead. I also look at some of the evidence that Jesus existed and that he claimed to be God. If all these facts are true then Christianity is true. Please take a listen and get a copy of Habermas and Licona's book!
