In this episode of Still Unbelievable!, Matthew reviews Sean McDowell and William Lane Craig being shitty about Rhett's deconversion. When Christian apologists review the deconversion of a high profile Christian, it's a given that they will miss the point on the things they say and misdirect their adoring Christian fans on the negative aspects of Christianity that cause the person to leave. This conversation is no exception and we're going to have fun highlighting all the predictable and unsurprising ways that Sean and WLC achieve this. Four conservative Biola profs (Sean McDowell, Thaddeus Williams, Fred Sanders, Erik Thoennes) respond to the recent "drama" surrounding the questions Alisa Childers, Monique Duson and I have been raising. I appreciate these brothers and want you to hear their responses in their words. I also want you to understand what they DIDN'T say. Bombshells: Sean won't send kids to "center-left" Sociology department; Fred admits left-leaning hires; Thad says Biola "got crazy" 2014-2020 and is now reforming. At the end, I recount my 2021 meeting with top-level administration. Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fJ3rPKlc2Zk #Biola #IsBiolaWoke
Kristin Hileman kicked off a practical session on “Can I trust the Bible?”—framing it as the foundation for the whole "Defending Your Faith" series. After a playful fact-or-fiction opener, she shared Sean McDowell's story to underline this: if we ask people to stake their lives on an ancient book, we need reasons, not circular claims. She defined what Christians mean by “the Bible,” noted its own claims and fulfilled prophecy, and then offered three simple lenses we can remember: the character of the witnesses (specific names/places, eyewitness reports, even unflattering details, and costly devotion), the reliability of the copies (manuscript evidence and Dead Sea Scrolls consistency), and outside corroboration.Kristin wrapped up the session with heart-level guidance from 1 Peter 3:15—be ready, gentle, and respectful; start with your story; ask what the other person already knows; admit what you don't; and pray—trusting God to use both evidence and lived light to build confidence in Scripture.Support the show
After centuries of anticipation, the ancient city of Colossae—the site of Paul's letter to the Colossians—is finally being excavated. Dr. Clint Arnold, one of the world's foremost experts on Colossians, joins Sean McDowell to share breaking news from the dig in modern-day Turkey. They explore why this excavation is historic, what discoveries could illuminate the New Testament, and how this project might finally unravel the mystery of the so-called “Colossian heresy.”Listeners will learn about the decades-long journey to make this dig possible, the fascinating mix of history and theology behind Colossae, and what these findings could mean for our understanding of early Christianity. ==========Think Biblically: Conversations on Faith and Culture is a podcast from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, which offers degrees both online and on campus in Southern California. Listeners will hear powerful stories of how Jesus is revealing Himself to Muslims both abroad and in the United States. Through captivating audio clips, Clint highlights Tom's experiences, including a striking account of a man who, during a pilgrimage to Mecca, encounters a vision of Jesus urging him to follow a different path. This narrative sets the stage for a discussion about the significance of these divine encounters and the transformative power of faith. As the episode unfolds, Clint reflects on his own hesitations and the importance of being receptive to God's calling. He emphasizes the need to be prepared and attentive to the opportunities God places in our lives, even in seemingly mundane situations—like a gas station encounter that leads to a profound spiritual conversation. With biblical references to the prophetic words of Joel, Clint encourages listeners to recognize the signs of the times and to be ready to share the Gospel with those whose hearts are being primed by God. This episode serves as a reminder that God is actively working in the lives of individuals across the globe, and it challenges us to step out in faith, engage in meaningful conversations, and share the love of Jesus with those who may be seeking answers. Join Clint for this enlightening discussion that blends personal testimony with scriptural wisdom, and discover how to navigate the call to reach out to others with compassion and confidence.

Empathy is often seen as a virtue, but is there a point where it becomes dangerous? Today, I have fellow Biola professor Dr. Tim Muehlhoff, a communications expert, to explore whether modern Christians are becoming so empathetic that they begin to compromise biblical truth. Are Christians afraid to speak truth for fear of offending others? And how can we balance compassion with conviction? We hope this conversation helps you if you've ever wondered how to love well without losing your grounding. Our goal in this conversation is to work through the debate today so you can have clarity on what is at stake. Laura Zifer Powell seemed to be doing everything right. A top-tier student and Division I athlete at Duke University, she was driven, disciplined, and outwardly successful. But beneath the surface, something was missing. The more she achieved, the emptier she felt. And when a health crisis brought everything to a halt, the questions she had avoided for years finally caught up with her: What is all this for? What's the point of being good if it still doesn't satisfy? In this candid conversation, Laura shares her journey from moral pragmatist and religious skeptic to a confident follower of Christ. She opens up about the moment everything changed—a late-night plea to a God she wasn't sure existed, and the quiet unraveling that followed. If you've ever asked, “Is this all there is?” or wrestled with the gap between outward success and inward emptiness, Laura's story offers more than answers—it offers hope. Guest Bio: Laura Zifer Powell is a Christian apologist, writer, and speaker. She is the founder of An Affair with Reason and co-host of the Knight and Rose Show podcast. She graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's in public policy, earned her master's degree from Denver Seminary, and is currently working on her Doctor of Ministry in Public Theology from Birmingham Theological Seminary. She has ministered in over thirty countries on five continents and has seen first-hand how false worldviews harm and destroy God's image bearers, while the Christian worldview leads people and societies toward human flourishing. Is empathy being weaponized by Progressives to manipulate Christians into adopting certain ethical and political views? Is empathy a virtue, or merely an emotion that is sometimes a valuable and important means of loving people? There have been a myriad of Christians books and podcasts on this topic, and so Sean has invited Biola communications professor Tim Muehlhoff to discuss and debate these issues and more. Enjoy!Tim Muehlhoff received his Ph.D. in Communication Studies at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. He is a professor of Communications at Biola University. Last week, Frank introduced three compelling reasons to believe in the resurrection, including embarrassing details and eyewitness testimony. In this midweek episode, he jumps back into more archaeological discoveries that include names of people involved in the death and crucifixion of Jesus and how the excruciating deaths of the eyewitnesses offer powerful evidence that they weren't lying as well. He also answers questions like:Did any of the apostles recant their eyewitness testimony and is it possible that they were hallucinating? Were the apostles motivated to invent the resurrection story and should their testimony be dismissed because they were Christians? Is martyrdom also evidence that Islam is true? What does Spiderman have to do with the reliability of the New Testament? Is the New Testament just a work of historical fiction? Can other world religions be defended with apologetics? Why are skeptics and non-Christians often motivated to reject Christianity?Later in the episode, Frank draws from major cultural events in modern U.S. history—like 9/11, the OJ Simpson trial, and the Rodney King incident—to reveal how human bias can shape the way we interpret evidence and how “impact events” can help us in evaluating the historicity of the New Testament. Today, we sit down with Dr. Sean McDowell, professor, apologist, and author, to discuss all things Holy Week. We talk about the proof of the existence of Jesus but also refute the claim that Jesus wasn't crucified. We also talk about whether or not Christians should be celebrating Passover and other Jewish holidays as well as the ongoing debate over whether Easter is actually pagan in nature. Dr. McDowell also answers some apologetics questions for us and gives some advice on how to look for our own spiritual blind spots in our walks with God.
