The Miracles Science Can't Explain (Dr. Marc Siegel)

Do miracles still happen or have we explained them away with modern medicine? Today, I am with Dr. Marc Siegel, Fox News senior medical analyst, NYU clinical professor, and practicing physician, to explore why many doctors believe miracles are not relics of the past, but realities they still encounter today. He argues that as medical skill advances, the value of human life and the reality of the soul become harder to ignore. Miracles are often not single supernatural moments, but an accumulation of unlikely outcomes, faith, perseverance, and healing. Biola was founded in 1908 to fight theological modernism when mainline schools abandoned orthodoxy. Today, postmodernism—with its rejection of truth, deconstruction of Scripture, and embrace of critical theories—threatens historic Christianity the same way. Biola's founders had the courage to build an unapologetic outpost for biblical truth. Now it's Biola's turn to lead again. This is a call to courage. #BiolaUniversity #Postmodernism #ChristianCourage #TheologyMom #BiolaChronicles

It is not an understatement to say that AI has revolutionized virtually every aspect of human life. What should characterize a Christian posture towards AI? Should we be concerned? Optimistic? How do we think biblically about it the emergence of new AI technology? In this unique episode, Sean is joined by three Biola/Talbot professors who are experts in their fields and in AI: Yohan Lee, Associate Dean of Technology and Professor of Computer Science; Michael Arena, Dean of Biola's Crowell School of Business; and Mihretu Guta, Professor of Philosophy and Apologetics. Mihretu P. Guta, Ph.D. (Philosophy at Durham University, UK). After completing his Ph.D., he worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Durham University within the Durham Emergence Project which was set up with cooperation between physicists and philosophers and funded by the John Templeton Foundation. Guta's postdoctoral research focused on the nature of the emergence of the phenomenal consciousness taken from the standpoint of metaphysics, philosophy of mind, cognitive neuroscience and quantum physics. Dr. Yohan Lee has led advanced technology organizations for over 20 years in commercial industry, education, and government. He has been privileged to serve as a civil scientist (U.S. National Institutes of Health), Principal Investigator (Google AI), Chief Science Officer (Riiid Labs, Inc.), and CEO (Scaled Entelechy, Inc). His undergraduate and doctoral studies were at UCLA in neuroscience and genomics with a focus on the neurological basis of learning and memory in addition to precision medicine. His doctoral work centered on large scale genomic data for health and distributed computing. In his corporate role, Dr. Lee has led research and business units in industry, public-private partnerships, the federal government, and international academic consortia for enterprise initiatives with Fortune 50 corporations. Michael Arena, Ph.D., is the dean of the Crowell School of Business at Biola University. Charles Murray is a Harvard and MIT-trained policy analyst and the author of Taking Religion Seriously. He joins me to explore why many educated people never seriously consider God—not because they’ve disproven the supernatural, but because they’ve quietly learned to dismiss it. Charles describes his journey from “happy agnostic” to “Christian,” wrestling with questions like “Why is there something rather than nothing?” and “Why does consciousness seem to reach beyond the brain?” This isn’t the story of an aggressive atheist changing his mind. It’s about the subtle assumptions that shape what we think is reasonable and what we hesitate to question. *Get a MASTERS IN APOLOGETICS or SCIENCE AND RELIGION at BIOLA (https://bit.ly/3LdNqKf) *USE Discount Code [smdcertdisc] for 25% off the BIOLA APOLOGETICS CERTIFICATE program (https://bit.ly/3AzfPFM) *See our fully online UNDERGRAD DEGREE in Bible, Theology, and Apologetics: (https://bit.ly/448STKK) FOLLOW ME ON SOCIAL MEDIA: Twitter: https://x.com/Sean_McDowell TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@sean_mcdowell?lang=en Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/seanmcdowell/ Website: https://seanmcdowell.org Discover more Christian podcasts at lifeaudio.com and inquire about advertising opportunities at lifeaudio.com/contact-us.

This Week at Genesis | Advent Week 1 — The Joy of Christ This Sunday we hosted an Apprentice Sunday where we give opportunities to rising young leaders a chance to lead in our Sunday space, this week Judah and Tyler from Biola gave a wonderful sermon on Joy. Judah and Tyler opened our Advent season by leading us into the deep joy found in Christ. As part of our Apprentice Sunday, we created space for the youth of our church to step into their gifts, offering them the opportunity to learn, serve, and lead. Together, they guided us into the heart of Advent—beginning where Scripture begins: with good news of great joy. Rooted in Luke 2:8–14, they reminded us that joy is not grounded in circumstance but in the unchanging character of God. Joy comes from the safety, freedom, and hope found in a Savior who stepped into our world and into our story. Judah and Tyler walked us through: 1. The history and meaning of Advent—a season of waiting, hope, and preparation. 2. The good news of great joy—announced to shepherds and offered to all people. 3. The joyful anticipation of His second coming—living in the tension of “already and not yet.” They also shared three practices that help us cultivate joy in everyday life: Walk by the Spirit (Gal. 5:16–25) Choose joy (Phil. 4:4) Suffer well (James 1:2–4) As we step into this season, we begin with joy—the kind that anchors us, strengthens us, and draws us deeper into the story of Jesus.

It's always a pleasure to welcome back Dr. Shane Enete—Associate Professor of Finance at Biola University, founder of Biola's Financial Planning Program, and creator of The Money Storybook Bible Podcast. His creative work helps parents disciple their children in biblical stewardship by weaving financial lessons into retold Bible stories. When asked what inspired the podcast, Dr. Enete explained that the idea grew from a common question he receives: “How can I teach my kids about money?” His realization was simple yet profound—the Bible already does this. “The Bible talks about money more than almost any other topic, and it's filled with stories for all ages,” he said. “So I thought, what if I just told these stories to my kids in a way that helped them see themselves in the story and learn about money at the same time?”Stewardship as an Expression of LoveFor Dr. Enete, the goal goes far beyond teaching budgeting or saving. “Stewardship is one of the greatest opportunities we have to express our love for Jesus,” he said. “When we share, we're loving Him and others.”He hopes parents and children alike will see money not as a source of stress or status, but as an opportunity for love, wisdom, and worship. “I want kids to understand the dangers of debt and discontentment,” he added, “but even more, I want them to know that Jesus is everything—and that money can be used to love Him.”Storytime with a PurposeEach podcast episode features Dr. Enete reading to his own children, with interactive moments that bring the stories to life. “We start with fun icebreakers, like a ‘Would you rather' question, then read a Bible story together,” he explained. “Afterward, I ask questions to help them reflect, and we finish with a hands-on activity that reinforces the lesson.”One of Dr. Enete's favorite family moments came from a story about Solomon. “I asked my kids which world they'd rather live in—one where they're rich but don't know Jesus, or one where they have Jesus but not the riches. They didn't even hesitate—they chose Jesus. That's when I knew these lessons were hitting home.”The Story of Lydia: Business as MinistryOne memorable episode, Purple Snail Robes, retells the story of Lydia from Acts 16. In Dr. Enete's version, Lydia initially wants to give away her wealth to follow Paul, but he helps her see that her business can be a ministry in itself.“Sometimes God wants us to serve Him right where we are,” Paul tells her. “When you share what you have and do your work with skill and kindness, you're showing people who Jesus is.”Dr. Enete shared that Lydia's story was inspired by the idea of Gospel Patrons—those who use their resources to fuel God's work. “Lydia was one of the first gospel patrons,” he said. “I wanted kids to see that our work and business can glorify God. Plus,” he laughed, “the fact that purple dye came from smashed snails makes it extra fun for kids!”The Story of Nicodemus: Costly GenerosityAnother powerful episode, 75 Pounds of Spices, reimagines Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus as they prepare Jesus' body for burial—with a young girl named Abigail watching nearby. The story illustrates generosity that is both courageous and costly, as Joseph donates his tomb and Nicodemus buys an extravagant amount of burial spices.Even little Abigail joins in, offering her treasured blue necklace to honor Jesus. “That moment shows that no act of generosity is too small,” said Dr. Enete. “It's a picture of giving that flows from love—something children can grasp in a tangible way.”Free Resources for FamiliesTo help parents extend the lessons at home, Dr. Enete created a free activity book that pairs with the podcast. It includes fun exercises, badges, and a certificate of completion—each tied to key money principles like giving, saving, and contentment. You can find the podcast and resources at WholeHeartFinances.com.At the heart of The Money Storybook Bible Podcast is a simple but transformative message: Jesus is the true treasure. Teaching kids about money isn't just about dollars and cents—it's about helping them see that every financial decision can be an act of love for God and others. As Dr. Enete put it, “More than anything, I want kids to know that money isn't the goal—knowing and loving Jesus is.”On Today's Program, Rob Answers Listener Questions:I've been diagnosed with a terminal illness and care for my four-year-old grandson. I have $100,000 in life insurance, $50,000 in retirement savings, and $20,000 in cash. How can I set up a trust and invest wisely to provide for him after I'm gone? When did Christians first recognize the biblical canon and how do we know we have the right books? Today, we have New Testament scholar Dr. Michael Kruger (The Question of Canon) to unpack what “canon” means, why recognition began far earlier than the 4th century, and how both intrinsic factors (covenant, apostles) and extrinsic factors (heretics like Marcion) shaped the process. We also address why Protestants, Catholics, and Orthodox differ, and what to make of texts like The Shepherd of Hermas and the Gospel of Thomas. Money and marriage—two things God designed to bless us, but they can also be two of the greatest sources of stress. What if we turned financial conflict into connection?Dr. Shane Enete joins us today to share six creative ways couples can build stronger relationships by having intentional financial conversations—what he calls “money dates.”Dr. Shane Enete is an Associate Professor of Finance at Biola University and founded the Biola Center for Financial Planning. He is also the author of the book Whole Heart Finances: A Jesus-Centered Guide to Managing Your Money with Joy.Why You Need to Talk About Money—IntentionallyMany couples avoid conversations about money out of fear. A study of 2,000 couples found that half of them were uncomfortable discussing money because they worried it would lead to conflict. The irony is that by avoiding those talks, the conflict only deepens. On average, couples argue about money 58 times a year. But what if, instead of waiting for issues to flare up, you set aside regular time to talk about your finances together—proactively and prayerfully? That's the heart behind the idea of money dates. You might have to rip off the bandage at first, but we want to help couples make these conversations not just necessary—but enjoyable.Turning Financial Talks Into DatesThese aren't meant for finger-pointing but for course correction—a time to realign your financial goals with your values. But also, why not make it a date? Dating can be a lot of fun if you're intentional. So why not combine something enjoyable with something that's often uncomfortable? When you connect in a fun environment, even money talk becomes more meaningful. The key is consistency. Whether it's over dinner, coffee, or a quiet walk, having a regular rhythm of financial connection helps you stay on the same page as a couple—and deepens your trust.Money Date #1: Share Your Money StoryEvery person brings a financial backstory into marriage—habits, fears, and attitudes shaped by family and early experiences.Think of it as your money autobiography. Reflect on what you learned about money growing up, what messages you received from your parents, and how those experiences influence your decisions today.Take your spouse out for dinner and share those stories. You'll gain empathy and understanding for each other's perspectives. When you know your partner's money story, their spending or saving habits make a lot more sense.Try this: Ask each other, “What's your earliest memory of money?” The answers may surprise you—and bring you closer.Money Date #2: Give TogetherGenerosity is one of the most unifying acts a couple can experience. Here are a few ways to make generosity a shared journey:Set a giving goal. Track your progress as a family and celebrate milestones together.Join a giving circle. Partner with friends or your small group to pool resources for a cause you all care about.Create a stretch goal. As your income grows, commit to increasing your giving percentage over time. These conversations shift the focus from money as a source of stress to money as a means of Kingdom impact.Money Date #3: Cook the BooksThis one's both literal and figurative! Instead of going out, stay home and cook a meal together—or grab takeout for a picnic. Use the relaxed environment to talk about your budget rhythm:Who tracks expenses? What budgeting tools or apps will you use?How often will you review spending? The FaithFi app can help simplify this process. It lets couples track giving, spending, and saving all in one place—while keeping biblical wisdom at the center.Money Date #4: Check Your Credit (at the Spa!)Debt can carry emotional weight, so create a peaceful setting for this conversation. A spa day is perfect. It's relaxing—and you can often find affordable day passes. While you unwind, discuss:How much debt do you currently carry? How did your family handle debt growing up?What boundaries would you like to establish regarding credit use? This isn't about blame. It's about caring for each other and agreeing on a plan that both of you believe in.Money Date #5: Number Your DaysThis one takes its inspiration from Psalm 90:12: “Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”Couples should view estate planning as an act of love. When you prepare a will, name a guardian, or establish a power of attorney, you're doing something deeply selfless—caring for others even after you're gone.Spend a date identifying:Who will serve as executor or guardian for your children? How do you want your assets used to bless others? What legacy of faith and generosity do you want to leave behind?Growing Together Through Financial StewardshipMoney dates are about far more than numbers. They're about connection, empathy, and shared purpose. When couples talk about money in ways that honor God and each other, they grow in wisdom—and unity. When you come together around money with openness and grace, you draw closer not just to each other, but to the heart of God.———————————————————————————————————————Dr. Enete's full article, “Six Great Money Dates,” appears in the latest issue of Faithful Steward magazine—available to all FaithFi Partners. When you become a FaithFi Partner with a monthly gift of $35 (or $400 annually), you'll receive Faithful Steward magazine and other exclusive resources to help you grow as a faithful steward. I want something safe and low-risk—something that will be there for him when he needs it. This 6-week series focuses on identity, attachment, wounds, lament, and securing our attachment in Christ, not your marriage. In this episode of Neurodiverse Christian Couples, hosts Dan and Stephanie welcome back neurotheologian Dr. Jim Wilder for a deep dive into identity formation, attachment, and the brain, especially as it relates to neurodiverse individuals and marriages. Dr. Wilder explains how our identity develops from infancy through adolescence, highlighting key brain regions (like the orbital prefrontal cortex, corpus callosum, and mirror neuron system) and how they contribute to our sense of self and our ability to connect with others. He discusses what happens when these developmental processes are disrupted or different — as is often the case in autism, ADHD, and other developmental differences — and how this affects relationships, emotional regulation, and group belonging. The conversation explores: How attachment and caregiver attunement in infancy shape emotional identity. Why the adolescent brain shifts focus from Who am I? to Who are my people? — and how failing to find a “herd” can impact identity. The biological and neurological reasons why change (especially in neurodiverse individuals) takes time, encouragement, and community rather than just “trying harder.”Why accountability in the traditional sense often fails, and how a supportive group offering healthy correction is much more effective for growth and transformation. How autism impacts the identity center of the brain and its implications for marital relationships  This episode sets the stage for a series on identity and attachment, touching on grief, resilience, and sacred attachment, with upcoming guests offering complementary perspectives. If you're curious about how brain development, faith, and neurodiversity intersect — especially within marriage and community — this episode provides both insight and encouragement. About Our Guest Dr. Jim Wilder:Dr. Jim Wilder has been training leaders and counselors for over 30 years on five continents. Jim grew up in South America and is bilingual (English/Spanish). He is the author of nineteen books with a strong focus on maturity and relational skills. Dr. Wilder has served as a guest lecturer at Fuller Seminary, Biola, Talbot Seminary, Point Loma University, Montreat College, Tyndale Seminary, and elsewhere.  Dr. Jim Wilder has extensive clinical counseling experience and is the chief neurotheologian of Life Model Works, a nonprofit working at the intersection of theology and brain science. Life Model Works builds on the fifty-year legacy of Shepherd's House, which began in the 1970s as a ministry to street kids in Van Nuys, California. In those early days, Jim worked with the team of volunteer counselors and Fuller Seminary faculty to build a counseling center to help broken people recover from negative habits, addictions, abuse, and trauma. By the 1990s, Jim was Assistant Director and later Executive Director of Shepherd's House, helping hundreds of pastors and churches with their toughest counseling cases. Jim was intimately involved in 1987 when Shepherd's House conducted a careful review of why some people with the same level of trauma and treatment recovered, but others did not. The results of this case-by-case study became The Life Model, a new recovery model. The Life Model study findings were published in Living from the Heart Jesus Gave You. Other podcasts we referenced:Escaping Enemy Mode Podcast:https://www.spreaker.com/episode/escaping-enemy-mode-with-dr-jim-wilder--52449734 What is LifeModel?https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gOcc2QJ0tTg Fear Bonds and Love Bonds with Dr. Wilderhttps://www.spreaker.com/episode/fear-bonds-love-bonds-and-q-a-with-dr-jim-wilder--57526192 Dr. Wilder's Books for 2026 CoursesLife Passages of MenGrowing a More Human Community

For the first time in history, archaeologists are excavating the ancient city of Colossae, the very place Paul addressed his letter to the Colossians and to Philemon. Dr. Arnold explains the significance of Colossae in the New Testament world, the challenges of getting an excavation approved in modern Türkiye, and what discoveries could reveal about the spiritual and cultural background behind Paul’s warnings to the Colossian church. From mosaics hidden under farmland to ground-penetrating radar scans that point to buried temples, this is a fascinating look at how history, archaeology, and Scripture intersect. While running a “Change My Mind” table at Union Square, he met a self-described Satanist who reached for tarot cards when asked about the identity of Jesus. According to my guest Steve Dabbs, author of "When Demons Surface," this was a genuine demonic encounter. We show part of the encounter, and then analyze the experience through the lens of scripture. Is it time for the church to set aside theological differences about the morality of same sex unions and gender identity and find common ground in the Gospel? Is same sex marriage a disputable issue that should not divide us believers? According to a new book, the answer to both these questions is yes. The book is called Christlike Acceptance Across Deep Difference and is co-edited by Ron Pierce, a non-affirming scholar who worked at Biola for five decades, and Karen Keen, an affirming scholar. ==========Think Biblically: Conversations on Faith and Culture is a podcast from Talbot School of Theology at Biola University, which offers degrees both online and on campus in Southern California.
