For the last several weeks, we have been discussing how to navigate through periods of doubt, despair, and depression, with guests Dr. Gary Habermas and Dr. Alan Noble. For the next two weeks on the Profile, we'll be hearing from Devin Squeri, author of The Doubt Project - A Crisis of Faith, the Battles, and the Answers. Devin will be sharing his story of how he navigated the tumultuous storms of a terrifying and difficult two-year struggle with doubt and how he found his way back to Jesus. Devin's story intersects with us here at Watchman Fellowship, not just because of the next two episodes of the Profile, but because when Devin first entered his crisis, he'd attended in person one of our ministry's Atheist & Christian Book Club meetings. Also, one of the first Christian books he'd read during his difficult time was actually one of our own books, The Story of the Cosmos - How the Heavens Declare the Glory of God. Here on part one, Devin shares how his crisis began. Next week on part two, you'll hear the remarkable conclusion to his crisis and how he returned to Jesus. Devin Squeri, born and raised in New York, graduated with degrees in Physics and Mathematics from the State University of New York at Albany. His professional journey is highlighted by his founding of a human resources information systems company in 1997. In addition to his endeavors in technology, Mr. Squeri is an active real estate investor, home builder, and land developer. With a master's in overthinking and a doctorate in New York skepticism, he is deeply committed to rigorous analysis, critical thinking, and the pursuit of truth in all things.Devin is blessed to be married to Paige, and together they are the parents of four daughters and two Labradors. Their carnival of a family is based in Frisco, Texas—a suburb of Dallas.Contact Devin at ds@padhousing.com. Free Christian resource for those struggling with doubt. Bible StudyDon't just take our word for it . . . take His! We would encourage you to spend time examining the following Scriptures that shaped this sermon: .Sermon NotesIntroduction: Faith and QuestionsPersonal story: moving from assumed faith to examined faithMany people wrestle with intellectual questions about ChristianityThe Bible calls us to a reasoned faith, not blind faith (1 Peter 3:15)1. Does the Resurrection Matter?Christianity is rooted in a real historical eventCore gospel truth (1 Cor. 15:3-4)Christ diedChrist was buriedChrist was raisedIf the resurrection is not true:Faith is empty and powerless (1 Cor. 15:17)No forgiveness, no hope, no victory over deathBottom line: Everything in Christianity rises or falls on the resurrection2. Doesn't Science Disprove the ResurrectionScience studies repeatable, natural eventsMiracles are non-repeatable acts of GodTherefore:Science cannot prove or disprove miraclesImportant distinction:Rejecting miracles is a philosophical assumption, not a scientific conclusionMany serious scientists affirm both science and faith3. What is the Evidence for the Resurrection? We examine it using historical reasoningNot absolute proof, but reasonable, plausible explanationKey Evidence: Transformation of the DisciplesBefore:Afraid, scattered, denying JesusAfter:Boldly proclaiming the resurrectionWilling to suffer and dieKey question:Why would they die for something they knew was a lie? Most plausible explanation:They truly believed they encountered the risen JesusApplication: Faith Engages Mind and HeartChristianity invites intellectual engagementExploring evidence can:Strengthen faithDeepen joy and confidenceThe resurrection is not just a symbol:It is the source of hope, freedom, and victoryDiscussion QuestionsWhat does it look like to practice to love God with all of our minds (Matthew 22:37)?Is it reasonable to believe in miracles? Why or why not? Some suggest that the resurrection was spiritual in nature. That Jesus' soul was going back to God (but not necessarily his body). Does this view square with the biblical text? Consider Luke 24:36-43.If Jesus wasn't raised from the dead, can there still be forgiveness of sins in his name? Why or why not? What are the Apostle Paul's thoughts from 1 Corinthians 15?Additional Resources:Can a Scientist Believe in the Resurrection? Deserts can be forbidding even deadly but they are also beautiful and needful for our earthly sojourn. At some point in our lives as Christians, we too will pass through the harsh and arid terrain of a spiritual wilderness. How do we navigate our way through it? Thankfully, there are many faithful men and women of God who have passed through such a wilderness and offer to us their cairns and memorial stones of how Jesus led them through it and out of it. On this week's episode of Apologetics Profile, resurrection scholar Dr. Gary Habermas continues to share with us his years of practical and pastoral advice and counsel in helping believers navigate through seasons of doubt. If you or someone you love is passing through a desert wilderness of doubt, you definitely don't want to miss this week's broadcast. See the link in Gary's name below for his books on doubt. Dr. Gary Habermas has dedicated his professional life to the examination of the relevant historical, philosophical, and theological issues surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus. His extensive list of publications and debates provides a thorough account of the current state of the issue. He has written 50 books about half of which are on the subject of Jesus' resurrection. He has also contributed more than 90 chapters or articles to additional books, and over 200 articles and reviews in journals and other publications. In recent years, he has been a visiting or adjunct professor at about 15 different graduate schools and seminaries in the United States and abroad. Dr. Habermas is a Distinguished Research Professor of Apologetics and Philosophy. Passing through a desert wilderness is a common theme throughout Scripture. Many of God's choicest saints have spent time, alone, in the wilderness. And the wilderness can mean both a desert environment as well as a place of spiritual difficulties and trials. Israel spent forty years in the desert wilderness of Sinai and Jesus Himself spent 40 days in the wilderness being tempted by Satan. As believers, we too pass through deserts of despair, depression, and doubt. Doubt, however, is not our final destination, but a temporary, sanctifying landscape that reminds us of our total dependence on Christ alone. On the next two episodes of Apologetics Profile, we sit down with resurrection scholar and friend of Watchman Fellowship, Dr. Gary Habermas, who has also written and spoken extensively on the topic of doubt. Here Gary will help you or someone you know navigate through the forbidding arid terrain of the deserts of doubt.See the link in Gary's name below for his books on doubt. What is the evidence for and against reincarnation? When analyzed carefully, what does the science reveal? Gary Habermas is one of the world's leading experts on the Resurrection of Jesus. In this video, we do a deep dive on the common evidences given for reincarnation (e.g., child memories, birthmarks) and offer some additional critiques. We discuss the work of Ian Stevenson, leading researcher and pioneer for scientific reincarnation studies. While there is some interesting evidence for reincarnation, there is another supernatural explanation that accounts for the data, which must be considered. The Reliability of Faith in an Age of Doubt: Why Apologetics Must Become Pastoral AgainPurpose of the Show-------------------This show exists to awaken wisdom, spark clarity, and help thinkers, leaders, and creators live with a depth of purpose the modern world has forgotten. Every conversation is an invitation — not simply to defend truth, but to dwell in it, live from it, and let it shape who we become.Introduction------------What happens when a theologian, philosopher, apologist, and black belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu sets his life's work toward one mission:Helping the Church recover confidence in the truth of Scripture?Today's guest, Dr. Ben Shaw, is part of a new generation of Christian scholars who refuse to separate rigorous intellect from pastoral care. His work stands at the intersection of philosophy, history, theology, and discipleship — and he believes apologetics is not merely about winning arguments, but forming souls. In a culture drowning in skepticism, distraction, and deconstruction, Ben is giving believers something rare:A reasoned, interdisciplinary, historically grounded confidence that the New Testament is trustworthy.Credibility + Background------------------------Ben is the President of CORE Apologetics, a national nonprofit equipping churches, universities, and organizations with the tools to think deeply and disciple faithfully. He is the author of Trustworthy: Thirteen Arguments for the Reliability of the New Testament (IVP, 2024), a work already gaining traction among pastors, professors, and serious lay thinkers. With more than a decade of research alongside world-renowned scholar Dr. Gary Habermas, Ben has contributed to and co-authored over two dozen publications in historical, philosophical, and theological scholarship. His background is a rare blend of disciplines:- BS in Marketing - MA in Religious Studies - PhD in Theology and Apologetics (Liberty University) - More than 10 years as an insurance industry vice president - Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu - Hockey player, official, and lifelong interdisciplinary thinker Ben teaches at Liberty University and Colorado Christian University, develops apologetics curricula for the Lee Strobel Center, and speaks across churches, conferences, and campuses nationwide. His conviction is simple and profound:No discipline is an island — and the Church is strongest when it thinks across them.Episode Summary---------------This conversation confronts one of the deepest anxieties of our age:Can we still trust anything — including Scripture — in a world where skepticism feels like maturity?Together, we explore:- why modern Christians doubt more psychologically than intellectually - how interdisciplinary apologetics strengthens discipleship - why historical arguments for the New Testament matter more in 2026 than ever before - how believers can cultivate a faith that is both emotionally grounded and intellectually unshakable - the surprising skill overlaps between Jiu Jitsu and spiritual formation - and how churches can respond to the rising tide of deconstruction with compassion and clarity This is not merely a defense of faith — it is a vision for Christian confidence in an era of cultural disintegration.Call to Action--------------If this conversation awakens something in you — a desire to articulate your ideas with clarity, to shape your message for the next generation, or to capture your life's work in a book that strengthens the Church — I would be honored to walk with you.Inside my exclusive, high-level book-coaching program, I help select authors translate scholarship into storytelling, turn insight into structure, and shape manuscripts that carry weight, beauty, and staying power. If you're ready to write the book God has placed on your heart — the one that will serve, teach, and endure — my door is open.Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/the-doctor-of-digital-gmick-smith-phd--1279468/support.

Is There Life After Death? Scholar Analyzes 500+ Cases over 50 Years. Gary Habermas was one of the first Christian scholars to study near-death experiences in the early 1970s. Thus, he has been studying them over 5 decades! How has the evidence changed? According to Dr. Habermas, we have hundreds of NEW documented, evidential cases just in the past few years. In this episode, I talk with Dr. Habermas about the cases he has collected and analyzed. Some involve accurate details observed miles away from the patient's body, blind individuals seeing for the first time and verifiable medical data that naturalistic explanations simply cannot explain. Some involve accurate details observed miles away from the patient’s body, blind individuals seeing for the first time and verifiable medical data that naturalistic explanations simply cannot explain. Could near-death experiences be evidence for life after death—and even the resurrection of Jesus? In this episode, Ruslan explores the fascinating connection between documented NDEs, biblical accounts like Paul's vision in 2 Corinthians, and the empty tomb. Featuring expert insights from Dr. Gary Habermas and a vivid firsthand testimony, we dive into the data, theology, and implications these experiences have for faith, skeptics, and the afterlife. Resurrection expert Dr. Gary Habermas returns to discuss Volume 3 of his magnum opus, 'On the Resurrection: Scholarly Perspectives', which includes 500+ scholarly treatments related to the resurrection. From far-left critics to conservative theologians, this collective volume provides a strong overview of everything that has ever been written about the resurrection and includes over 8,000 footnotes!During their conversation, Frank and Gary answer questions like:Why do critical scholars deny miracles but still affirm that Jesus was a miracle worker? Why does Gary think many atheists don't want to say "I do" to Jesus? Is biblical inerrancy a requirement for the Gospel and what about apparent Bible contradictions? What are the 3 things you need in order for Christianity to be true? How do you respond to those who say the deity of God evolved over time? What do creeds teach us about high Christology and how did it get started? What's the best explanation for the rapid growth of early Christianity? If you're looking for the most comprehensive survey of scholarship for and against the resurrection, this is it! Whether you're a skeptic, seeker, or committed believer, this discussion offers rich insight and a reason to take the resurrection seriously. As Gary would say, "It's a bold argument to say that Jesus rose from the dead, but try to get out of it!"Resources mentioned during the episode:PODCAST: Did Jesus REALLY Rise From the Dead? - https://bit.ly/3VnrtiDOn the Resurrection: Evidences (Vol.1) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/1087778603On the Resurrection: Refutations (Vol.2) - https://a.co/d/48jozEvOn the Resurrection: Scholarly Perspectives (Vol.3) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/1087778646Gary's website - https://www.garyhabermas.com/
If God exists and Jesus rose from the dead, then Christianity is true. Case closed! However, there are still those who offer alternative explanations for the empty tomb despite the evidence for the resurrection. What are these theories and do they withstand critical analysis? This week, Frank sits down with Dr. Gary Habermas, the world's leading resurrection scholar to discuss, 'On the Resurrection: Refutations', the second volume of his magnum opus--a massive 4-volume project nearly 40 years in the making. From second-century texts that seem to challenge the resurrection to modern skeptical scholars like Bart Ehrman, Gary will uncover why naturalistic explanations for the empty tomb simply don't hold up. Tune in as Frank and Gary answer questions like:Who was David Hume and why do so many modern atheists still lean on his centuries-old arguments? What was Hume's actual argument against miracles, and how did C.S. Lewis respond? Are there any good arguments for naturalism or materialism? Why did former skeptic Antony Flew become a theist before he died? What are the top 5 reasons naturalistic explanations for the resurrection fail? What are the 4 best arguments in favor of an afterlife? If you're looking for the most well-researched scholarship to refute common resurrection objections, you won't find a better resource than this! Be sure to pick up your own copies of Gary's amazing work and stay tuned for the next podcast where he'll return to discuss even more insights from his life's work on the resurrection!Resources mentioned during the episode:PODCAST: Did Jesus REALLY Rise From the Dead? - https://bit.ly/3VnrtiDOn the Resurrection: Evidences (Vol.1) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/1087778603On the Resurrection: Refutations (Vol.2) - https://a.co/d/48jozEvOn the Resurrection: Scholarly Perspectives (Vol.3) - https://www.amazon.com/dp/1087778646Gary's website - https://www.garyhabermas.com/There is a God by Antony Flew - https://a.co/d/eOhWkSTSignature in the Cell by Stephen C. There exists a popular myth among skeptics and non-believers that Jesus did not really rise from the dead. What may have happened, they suggest, is that Peter and/or Paul experienced some kind of hallucination or vision of Jesus after His death. Our guest again this week on the Profile, resurrection scholar Dr. Gary Habermas, argues however, that in order for this hypothesis even to get off the ground, the skeptic must first establish the truth of a purely naturalistic worldview, which, Gary believes, cannot be done. Naturalistic refutations of Jesus' resurrection fail to provide any significant challenge to the narratives found in the four Gospel accounts of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Dr. Gary Habermas has dedicated his professional life to the examination of the relevant historical, philosophical, and theological issues surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus. His extensive list of publications and debates provides a thorough account of the current state of the issue. He has also contributed more than 60 chapters or articles to additional books, and over 100 articles and reviews in journals and other publications. In recent years, he has been a visiting or adjunct professor at about 15 different graduate schools and seminaries in the United States and abroad. If Jesus did not rise from the dead, as skeptics claim, then our faith in Christ is worthless and we are still in our sins (1 Corinthians 15:17). So do arguments rooted in naturalism, aimed at criticizing and casting doubt upon the resurrection of Jesus from the dead, pose any significant challenge to the Christian faith? According to our guest this week, the world's leading scholar on the resurrection of Jesus, Dr. Gary Habermas, the answer is "Absolutely not!" Dr. Gary Habermas has dedicated his professional life to the examination of the relevant historical, philosophical, and theological issues surrounding the death and resurrection of Jesus. Laura Zifer Powell seemed to be doing everything right. A top-tier student and Division I athlete at Duke University, she was driven, disciplined, and outwardly successful. But beneath the surface, something was missing. The more she achieved, the emptier she felt. And when a health crisis brought everything to a halt, the questions she had avoided for years finally caught up with her: What is all this for? What's the point of being good if it still doesn't satisfy? In this candid conversation, Laura shares her journey from moral pragmatist and religious skeptic to a confident follower of Christ. She opens up about the moment everything changed—a late-night plea to a God she wasn't sure existed, and the quiet unraveling that followed. If you've ever asked, “Is this all there is?” or wrestled with the gap between outward success and inward emptiness, Laura's story offers more than answers—it offers hope. Guest Bio: Laura Zifer Powell is a Christian apologist, writer, and speaker. She is the founder of An Affair with Reason and co-host of the Knight and Rose Show podcast. She graduated from Duke University with a bachelor's in public policy, earned her master's degree from Denver Seminary, and is currently working on her Doctor of Ministry in Public Theology from Birmingham Theological Seminary. She has ministered in over thirty countries on five continents and has seen first-hand how false worldviews harm and destroy God's image bearers, while the Christian worldview leads people and societies toward human flourishing. As an apologist, she shares evidence for the biblical worldview and discusses how our worldview ought to impact every area of life, from our relationships to our public policy and economics. Her blog, previous interviews, and speaking request form can be found at her website, www.AnAffairWithReason.com, and her 20-lesson online course, Islam Foundations, is available at womeninapologetics.com. Crossover episode of Pewside Perspective. Hope the listeners of the Parent Teacher Conference enjoy. Let me know what you think at pewsideperspective@gmail.comI did a thing...I was kicked out of a Middle School History Teacher's Group on Facebook. In this cross over episode with his old podcast The Parent Teacher Conference, Coach shares the reasoning for his removal (at least he thinks the reason because none was ever given) and shares how in K-12 history education the progressive view is seen as the correct view and anything that is not in support of their view is seen as "far-right". For example anything by Howard Zinn & the Zinn Institute is seen as "unbiased" and appropriate for the classroom while anything by Prager U is seen as inappropriate even though Prager U declares its conservative bias and Zinn withholds sharing its Marxist bias. The last "lyric" of the hymn, Coach shares the importance of history in the Christian faith (rather than holding a view of a "spiritual" Jesus and resurrection and the importance of it happening in real time and space) and shares how more historians are now in agreement of a historical Jesus (some support from Wes Huff and Dr. Gary Habermas below) Bill Joel's We Didnt Start the Fire MTV VideoPrager U TBH History on the Scientific Revolution Wes Huff on the Joe Rogan PodcastDr. Gary Habermas on the Resurrection
Last week, Frank introduced three compelling reasons to believe in the resurrection, including embarrassing details and eyewitness testimony. In this midweek episode, he jumps back into more archaeological discoveries that include names of people involved in the death and crucifixion of Jesus and how the excruciating deaths of the eyewitnesses offer powerful evidence that they weren't lying as well. He also answers questions like:Did any of the apostles recant their eyewitness testimony and is it possible that they were hallucinating? Were the apostles motivated to invent the resurrection story and should their testimony be dismissed because they were Christians? Is martyrdom also evidence that Islam is true? What does Spiderman have to do with the reliability of the New Testament? Is the New Testament just a work of historical fiction? Can other world religions be defended with apologetics? Why are skeptics and non-Christians often motivated to reject Christianity?Later in the episode, Frank draws from major cultural events in modern U.S. history—like 9/11, the OJ Simpson trial, and the Rodney King incident—to reveal how human bias can shape the way we interpret evidence and how “impact events” can help us in evaluating the historicity of the New Testament. Is the Resurrection just a vision—or did Jesus actually rise from the dead? In this Easter episode, Dr. Mikel Del Rosario sits down with Dr. Gary Habermas, one of the leading experts on the resurrection, to talk about why the hallucination theory doesn't hold up. We unpack: What hallucinations and visions really are (and why they don't explain group appearances) Why naturalism fails to explain the resurrection How NDEs and spiritual experiences point beyond a materialist worldview There's good evidence that Easter Sunday really happened. And this is a conversation worth hearing.
On today's episode we take a deep look into the strongest bible passages that prove the Lord Jesus' resurrection.
