Mike Kolar is a name that you've most definitely come across if you're making music in Chicago. The owner and operator of Soundscape Studios on Chicago Ave in the city's West Town neighborhood, Kolar also is one half of the independent label Closed Sessions. For the past few decades, the man has engineered projects for the likes of George Clinton, Ludacris, Chance The Rapper, Jamila Woods and many, many more. I've been hanging out there for far too long and avid listeners will notice that we've recently taken up a residency there as well. To kick off 2020 then, it only seemed appropriate we sit down the man himself, Mike Kolar.

Struck A Nerve: The Pop Culture Mixtape is a show that takes place the 3rd Monday of every month at Wild Goose Creative in Columbus, OH. Hosted by Dustin Meadows, the show features comics, writers and other talented individuals tackling topics in popular culture ranging from comic books to movies to video games and so forth and so on, as well as sketching tables run by local artists before each show starts. The only rule is no stand-up, so the show utilizes essays, mixed media presentations and character sketches to bring humor and maybe even a little bit of poignancy to the cultural texts that we love so much. This show was performed live and recorded at Wild Goose Creative in Columbus, Ohio on April 21st, 2014. The line-up was as follows. Track 1: Turian Eulogy by Dustin Meadows Track 2: A Love Letter To Multiplayer by Tyler Clementi Track 3: Dr. Robeatnik by Alex Barnes Track 4: Dark Souls: An Introduction by Michael Meyers (featuring Mark Lucas as Mario, Mike Kolar as Sonic and Dustin Meadows as Bowser) Track 5: The Unsung Heroes Of Gaming by Kyle Tolliver Track 6: Sex Is Better Than Video Games by Brodysseus (Dustin Meadows & Tim Myers) Track 7: John Kasich Runs For Governor Of Grand Theft Auto by Travis Irvine Track 8: Halo: Combat Evolved-An Over The Shoulder Love Affair by Jack McClain Track 9: The Right Hand Of The King, Mushroom Kingdom by Mark Lucas

Comedian Dustin Meadows hosts a weekly show wherein he watches his favorite movies with other comedians who've never seen the film before. Dustin takes Mike Kolar, Kamari Stevens and Mike Szar through the violent roller coaster of face punching and exploding Parkour dudes, discussing everything from the beautiful menace of Ray Stevenson to the unapologetic brutality unleashed on an old man at his 100th birthday party, all while a very tired Dustin tries not to fall asleep. *Artwork by Brandon Schneider
