The Dad Edge Podcast (formerly The Good Dad Project Podcast)
What does it really look like to be a present father when life pulls you in a thousand different directions? In this powerful conversation, I sit down with actor Jon Bernthal—known for roles in The Punisher, The Walking Dead, Ford v Ferrari, and The Wolf of Wall Street—but what you'll hear today isn't about Hollywood. It's about fatherhood, humility, responsibility, and the deep influence a father can have on a son's life. Jon opens up about his childhood, the mistakes he made growing up, and the unwavering presence of a father who never gave up on him—even during the hardest seasons. We talk about the lessons Jon learned from those experiences and how they shaped the man, husband, and father he is today. We also dive into what intentional fatherhood looks like in real life: owning your mistakes, being present with your kids, and leading by example. Jon shares how he balances the demands of acting with showing up for his family—sometimes flying across the country overnight just to coach his kid's game. If you've ever struggled with being present, balancing work and family, or wondering what kind of legacy you're leaving as a dad—this episode will hit home. Timeline Summary [0:01] Why this powerful Jon Bernthal episode is being re-released and why the message still matters [2:06] Jon Bernthal the actor vs. Jon Bernthal the husband and father [5:18] The powerful lessons Jon learned from his father growing up [18:35] Growing up reckless and how his father never gave up on him [22:02] How mistakes and failures shaped the man he became [33:12] Balancing a demanding career with being present for family [36:45] Why intentional presence with your kids matters more than perfection [37:08] The simple principle Jon lives by: "Be where you are while you're there." [44:47] Why failure and mistakes are part of being a good father [54:26] The power of a father who never gives up on his child Five Key Takeaways Presence is one of the greatest gifts a father can give his kids. Failure is part of fatherhood—and it's often where the biggest growth happens. Kids learn responsibility when parents model humility and ownership. A father's belief in his child can change the trajectory of that child's life. The simple discipline of "being where you are while you're there" transforms relationships. Your kids don't need a flawless father. They need a father who shows up, owns his mistakes, and never stops believing in them. If this episode resonated with you, make sure you rate, review, follow, and share it with another dad who needs to hear it. Go out and live legendary.
We talk all things Infernal Hulk, from why this era of Hulk is finally colliding with the wider Marvel Universe to how Johnson has reshaped Bruce Banner's world into a Southern Gothic monster epic rooted in Marvel lore. Along the way, we get into the X-Men crossover, the Living City, Dungeons of Doom, his new Marvel exclusive deal, and the bigger plans quietly building beneath the surface of his Hulk run. If you've been following Incredible Hulk or wondering where this whole infernal saga is heading, this is the conversation you'll want to hear. On Horror as Hulk's Natural State With Infernal Hulk, you've fully repositioned Hulk as a horror icon rather than just a force of destruction. What makes horror such a natural lens for this character, and what aspects of Bruce and Hulk feel newly unlocked for you in that genre? 2. On Marvel Exclusivity & Timing You're now officially Marvel exclusive while also wrapping up Book of El at DC. Creatively, what does this moment represent for you? Does going exclusive feel like narrowing your focus, or opening up the sandbox in a bigger way? 3. On Bruce Without the Monster One of the smartest pivots in this run has been stripping Bruce away from the Hulk and forcing him to watch the consequences. What fascinates you most about Bruce when he's powerless and confronted with what the Hulk becomes without him? 4. On Writing Other Heroes Judging Bruce You've written the wider Marvel Universe reacting to Bruce in a way that feels tense, even cruel at times. Why was it important that the heroes not simply rally around him? 6. On the Living City Concept The Living City feels mythic, grotesque, and operatic all at once. What inspired that setting, and how important is it that Hulk's world now feels almost biblical in scope? 7. On INFERNAL HULK #7 and the X-Men In issue #7, Hulk exerts mysterious control over mutantkind and draws them into the Living City. That's a bold escalation. What makes the X-Men the right foil for this version of Hulk, and how does their connection to identity and mutation complicate what Eldest is doing? 7. You and Ben Percy are both playing in Marvel's darker corners right now, and “Dungeons of Doom” has that same horror-forward energy we're seeing in Infernal Hulk. What's it been like working alongside Ben in shaping that space, and how do you make sure your vision of horror and mythic stakes complements rather than overlaps with what he's building? 8. Fun Silly Question If Eldest decided to build the perfect army out of Marvel characters purely based on vibes, who would absolutely make the cut… and who would Eldest reject immediately for being “bad monster material”? 9. Any other projects you'd like to plug?
Rob and Zach chat with Joonas Turner (Downwell, Noita, Cult of the Lamb), Jukio Kallio (Fall Guys, Minit, Dave the Diver), and Jan Willem "JW" Nijman (Super Crate Box, Ridiculous Fishing, Minit) about their landmark twin-stick wasteland shooter, Nuclear Throne, and its recent blowout 10th anniversary update. They discuss reopening a project after a decade, balancing through play, the decision to not implement traditional invincibility frames, the shifting culture of what makes a design "engaging," and more! You can find him on Facebook and Tiktok. You can peruse his Web site, christiandixon.bandzoogle.com. You can find his EP and his singles on Apple Music and Spotify. And I'll also encourage you to check out James Carter's "You Found Music" out there on the Web; he's the guy deserving of the kudos for connecting me and Christian.During our conversation, we talked about life, growing up, family, mental health, self-discovery, service to others, and a bunch more. We also talked about a few of Christian's favorite albums, which were these:Glory, The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (1989)Switchfoot's Vice Verses (2011)Vessel (2013), Twenty One PilotsPhoebe Bridgers' Stranger in the Alps (2017)Punisher (2020), Phoebe BridgersThis is a long one, and that's certainly not desirable for some of the potential viewing audience, especially for a brand that's making zero clips or short-form content, but it's worth it. Christian is sharp, personable, and full of great insight, so I do hope you'll tune in.Thank you to him for the time, and to all of you that support the program.Note: Tom Cruise. Spider-Man has fought alongside the Avengers. But he's never led. In this episode of Marvel Maniac, we dive into the Spider-Man team-ups that need to happen before, during, and after Doomsday and Secret Wars. From the Fantastic Four and Shang-Chi…to Shuri's Black Panther…to Daredevil, The Punisher, and Kingpin at street level… Peter Parker might be the connective tissue the MCU is missing. Is Tom Holland's Spider-Man becoming the emotional center of the Multiverse Saga? And what happens when Peter comes face to face with Doctor Doom… wearing a familiar face? This is a fast, energetic, theory-driven episode exploring where Spider-Man could go next — and why he might be the heart of what's coming. Let's talk team-ups, legacy, and the future of the MCU.

Hello and welcome to Bill vs the MCU! Each month your hosts Pop Break Podcasting Director Alex Marcus and Pop Break Editor in Chief Bill Bodkin are taking another step into the wider Marvel Multiverse as the MCU dives deeper into their Multiverse Saga.Bill & Alex spent all of 2022 rewatching the first four phases of the MCU, and, in the years since, they have covered the first four seasons of Agents of SHIELD, the entire Netflix Defenders Saga, Fox's X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Daredevil films, the Blade trilogy, a few Punisher films, Ang Lee's Hulk, and, most recently, Marvel's Modern Animation line up of shows. This month, Alex & Bill are celebrating Valentine's Day by covering the most romantic Spider-Man franchise: The Amazing Spider-Man and The Amazing Spider-Man 2, the two films Sony made because they contractually had to make…something. These films star Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and a wildly overqualified cast of supporting players. They get into how these films came into being, what about them works better than you might remember, what about them is even worse than you thought was possible, and what Sony's Spider-Man Cinematic Universe that almost was might have looked like before they fired Garfield and kicked the franchise's creative direction over the Marvel Studios for a second reboot in under a decade. They also give early thoughts on Wonder Man and the latest trailer for Daredevil: Born Again Season 2, both of which the pod will cover in their July 2026 episode.Come back next month for part three of Podding the Spider-Verse with reviews of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018), now streaming on Netflix, and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023), now streaming on Disney Plus!

The Punisher (2004) + Punisher War Zone (2008) are our next stop on THE ROAD TO DOOMSDAY! In Deadpool & Wolverine, we learn that there are FIVE Punishers in the MCU multiverse. In this episode, we revisit two of them: Thomas Jane's Punisher from 2004 The Punisher, and Ray Stevenson's Punisher from 2008's Punisher War Zone. What works about these movies? What doesn't? Why is Punisher War Zone the Marvel Knights era movie that needs to come back for Blade? In this episode, Erik and Berg dive in to what aspects of these aughts Punisher movies could come back in Avengers Doomsday or Secret Wars. This episode breaks down a new detail reportedly pulled from a tie-in artbook: Spider-Man: Brand New Day may feature a four-year time jump, with Peter living in total isolation after the end of Spider-Man: No Way Home. We talk about what that kind of lonely, exhausted Spider-Man could look like, and why director Destin Daniel Cretton might lean into Peter's anxiety and mental load. We also dig into why bringing Frank Castle and Hulk into the mix could push Peter toward a big identity check: who is he when he is not being Spider-Man 24/7?00:00 Four-year time jump rumor and what it means after No Way Home00:12 Peter's isolation, mental strain, and what the director's past work suggests00:27 Four years of wins and losses, plus the “endless” Spider-Man grind00:41 Why Punisher changes the moral stakes, and how Hulk mirrors identity conflict00:59 Peter Parker vs Spider-Man and finding the real reason he keeps going01:13 Release date talk and artbook date, quick wrap-upA four-year jump would let the story start with a more experienced, more worn-down Peter.Peter living anonymously for years sets up a heavier emotional angle than the usual “new suit, new villain” cycle. The episode frames Spider-Man's responsibility as something that can become unhealthy if he never allows himself to be human.Punisher is positioned as a harsh mirror: saving people at all costs, even when it crosses lines.Hulk's identity struggle (hero vs person) makes him a natural thematic partner for Peter's inner conflict. This could be a “reset” era for Tom Holland's Spider-Man where the heart of the story is Peter, not the mask. Tom Holland“Peter Parker is no more.”“He's been in isolation for four years.”“With great power comes great responsibility to an unhealthy level.”“You have to be saved from himself.”“It's not just because he got Spider-Man abilities, it's because he's Peter Parker.”If you enjoyed this breakdown, subscribe to Geek Freaks Headlines, leave a review, and share the episode using #GeekFreaksHeadlines.GeekFreaksPodcast.com (our news source)Instagram: @geekfreakspodcastTwitter: @geekfreakspodThreads: @geekfreakspodcastFacebook: The Geek Freaks PodcastPatreon: GeekFreaksPodcastGot a theory, a prediction, or a topic you want us to cover next? Say all you want about super hero movie fatigue, but kids today don't know how bad it can get. How bad, you ask? How about Marvel's first attempt at an R-rated movie based on one of their characters, played by a guy who's acting ability in the 80's was best summed up by Sylvester Stallone when he said “you gave that guy lines?” Hold on to your handlebars, it's going to be a bumpy ride as we look to see if 1989's The Punisher is not that bad. Where it landed: Matt pulls Foggy and Cole North out of New York, links up with Elektra and Stick, and by the end of issue #4 the ritual is complete—Matt and Elektra are declared King and Queen of the reborn Fist (and man and wife), officially stepping into a global war that takes Daredevil far beyond the streets we're used to. As 2023 kicks off we learn - A reborn Fist with real stakes. The resurrection ritual doesn't just crown Daredevil and Elektra as King and Queen—it supercharges everyone, including Foggy and Cole North, and the Book of the Fist literally rewrites itself to guide them. Its warning is chilling: the Hand is using the Lunate Talisman to replace world leaders with undead puppets, quietly steering global power while no one notices. Recruiting monsters to stop monsters. Daredevil leads a breakout at the Myrmidon, offering prisoners a chance to fight for something bigger. Speed Demon, Stilt-Man, Agony, Stegron, and others join up. During the escape, Matt easily takes down U.S. Agent and is shaken to find Robert Goldman imprisoned there, clearly still part of a larger “plan.” In the aftermath, Iron Man and Captain America watch the footage and agree on one thing—Daredevil has crossed a line and needs to be brought in. Elektra lights the fuse. While Doc Sasquatch tries to hold this unstable team together through therapy, Elektra infiltrates the White House, confirms the President is a Hand construct, and throws him out a window—on camera. It's a tactical win and a PR nightmare, pushing the Avengers closer and painting the Fist as terrorists instead of saviors. Doing good the hard way. Matt insists the Fist prove they're different, leading a mission to North Carolina where they stop illegal evictions, defuse coordinated bombings, and protect a falling child—caught midair by Stilt-Man. Afterwards, Bullet leaves to find his son Lance, and we learn he's unknowingly walking straight into the Hand's trap. The war with the Hand. Knowing it's a setup but knowing they need to save Lance, Daredevil still attacks when the Book warns that the Punisher—who's leading the Hand—is killing again. The battle is massive and brutal: Daredevil and Elektra vs. the Punisher, Stick vs. Aka, Cole North vs. a Hand-controlled Bullet, and the rest of the Fist fighting dragons and assassins. They lose ground, barely escape, but Elektra steals the Lunate Talisman—proof the Hand can be beaten. Everything falls apart. The Avengers close in, the Stromwyns escalate, and Re-Cid gas bombs rain down on the Fist's base. Elektra destroys the Talisman, which reveals the truth _ Stick and Foggy were resurrected by the Hand—then disintegrate. The cost to beat the Hand is devastating as the Avengers arrive to arrest most of the team. God's plan goes loud. Daredevil manages to escape along with Robert Goldman, who unleashing an avalanche that forces the Avengers to retreat while nearly everyone else is captured. Weeks later, Cole North snaps Matt out of his spiral—telling him to put the suit back on, go fix it. Matt confronts the Stromwyns and trades himself for Elektra's freedom, proving his loyalty by plunging blades into his own eyes. Death, rebirth, and the real enemy. Believing sacrifice is the only answer, Matt travels to Japan to die at the Beast's gate and rescue the trapped souls—Foggy included. Elektra tries to stop him; he dies anyway, is reborn in white, and learns he's been manipulated by the Wild, sister to the Beast. In the collapsing afterlife, Matt rejects comforting illusions, frees Foggy and the others through love and willpower, and stays behind—armless but defiant—to face the Beast alone. The final book of volume 7 and the Red Fist Saga was an epilogue to this story and seemly sets us up for volume 8. This seemed like a good book for this week's spotlight story. We did get the first 2 books of volume 8 at the end of this year with a new creative team but we are going to save those and talk about them when we look at 2024. With ICE operations underway in Minneapolis and across the U.S., this episode asks a timely question: what would our favorite superheroes do? Matthew and Jessica Plummer explore how characters like Superman, Captain America, the Punisher, and the X-Men might respond to immigration enforcement, state violence, and mass deportations. From Superman's roots as an undocumented immigrant to Captain America's loyalty to ideals over governments, the conversation examines whether superheroes can ever truly be apolitical—and what justice means when the law itself causes harm. **************************************************************************This episode is a production of Superhero Ethics, a The Ethical Panda Podcast and part of the TruStory FM Entertainment Podcast Network. With two Punisher movies that yielded zero profit, it might be baffling to read that Lionsgate wasn't done trying to make more films featuring the character. Perhaps even more baffling is the idea that star of 2004's effort Thomas Jane was poised to come back to the skull shirted character. But, with delays galore, as well as creative indifference to the direction Lionsgate wanted to take, both Jane and original director Jonathan Hensleigh walked off the project. Enter Ray Stephenson and recent Oscar nominated director -and former kickboxing champion- Lexi Alexander. Speaking of fights, this podcast gets more confrontational than expected as Matt, Adam, and Garrett close out their Punisher series with this review of director Alexander's resulting feature, 2008's Punisher: Warzone. One loves it, one is seeing it for the very first time, and one is baffled at its cult status. No matter who says what, we at Percolated Media want Ms Alexander to know they meant nothing by it.
Episode 96 - Murdock and Marvel: 2022 It was a good year for comics, with things being stable, but still pointing up. In the movie world, though, there were some dangerous signs of problems to come… The Year in Comics Comics in Other Media Comic Sales Notable Comics Top Comic News Notable Passings Marvel Eisner Awards Dan's Favorite The Year in Daredevil Appearances: Daredevil v6 #36, Daredevil v7 #1-4, Devil's Reign #1-6, Devil's Reign Omega #1, Daredevil Epic Collection #12, Amazing Spider-Man Omnibus #1, Marvel Masterworks: Werewolf By Night #1, Mighty Marvel Masterworks: Namor the Sub-Mariner #1 Writer: Chip Zdarsky (v6 #36, DR #1-6, v7 #1-3) Zdarsky, Rodney Barnes and Jim Zub (Omega) Pencils: Manuel Garcia (#36), Marco Checchetto (DR #1-6, v7 #1), Rafael De Latorre, Luciano Vecchio and Guillermo Sanna Bauza (Omega), Checchetto, De Latorre, Alex Maleev, Paul Azaceta, Phil Noto, Chris Samnee, Klaus Janson, Mike Hawthorne and John Romita Jr (v7 #2), De Latorre (v7 #3-4) Inks: Cam Smith, Scott Hanna and Victor Nava (#36), Marco Checchetto (DR #1-6, v7 #1-), Rafael De Latorre, Luciano Vecchio and Guillermo Sanna Bauza (Omega) , Checchetto, De Latorre, Alex Maleev, Paul Azaceta, Phil Noto, Chris Samnee, Klaus Janson, Mike Hawthorne and Scott Hanna (v7 #2), De Latorre (v7 #3-4) The year begins with the final book of the Lock Down storyline we talked about in 2021. Fisk gets married to Typhoid Mary and while at his summer home finds his secret file with information on Daredevil's secret identity. That leads us into the big crossover event for 2022 – Devil's Reign. Since it's a huge crossover event that basically takes the place of a Daredevil volume for much of 2022, this will be our Spotlight story for the week. Following Devil's Reign in July, we get an epilogue book called Devil's Reign Omega. In it there are 3 stories: In “Fall and Rise” Reed Richards tells Daredevil he believes Fisk has traveled to Latveria before everything pauses for Matt Murdock's funeral, with Kirsten delivering the eulogy and the Marvel cast quietly circling the truth—Foggy grieving, Jessica learning Joe is alive but warehoused in an orphanage, and Butch Pharris showing up just long enough to confirm he knows Mike died in Matt's place and to ask the one question no one can answer: where is Matt? Daredevil and Elektra watch the post-funeral scene, telling Luke Cage and Danny Rand that Matt being “dead” is the only way they can leave New York and take the fight to the Hand. A quick bank-robbery stop turns awkward when the Thunderbolts arrive and remind everyone that Fisk may be gone, but the Powers Act—and their authority—very much isn't. The story ends with Jessica Jones freeing Joe from his inhibitor collar and takes responsibility for him, Kirsten quietly buries the Norn Stone with Matt and admits she knows, somehow, this isn't goodbye. In “Mayor For Hire” we see Luke Cage reflect on his past before his first press conference as Mayor. During the opening statement he tries to bring people together and afterwords talks about the role of the Thunderbolts. In “Cleaning House” Luke Cage tries to recruit Monica Rambeau to lead the Thunderbolts and reform them from within. She turns him down and it's suggested they try asking Clint Barton next. By September the events of Devil's Reign have wrapped up and Daredevil volume 7 starts. In it we get the first 4 issues of a storyline entitled “The Red Fist Saga”. It opens with Matt —posing as Mike—confronting Butch and learns about Fisk's fate. He then drops the act and with Spider-Man backing him up gives Butch a clear warning: rule like Fisk, and the heroes will come. Before leaving the city, Matt finally trusts Peter with his secret identity, then races to stop Kirsten from leaving town—only to miss her train as it explodes, pulling him into a nightmare orchestrated by the unnervingly calm Robert Goldman – a former college friend. Goldman claims he's been shaping Matt's life all along, pushing him toward greatness through tragedy—revealing he may have caused Elektra's father's death and the train bombings to “reforge” Daredevil. Their rain-soaked clash ends with Goldman leaping away and turning himself in, while Matt reunites with a very much alive Kirsten, confessing his love but still keeping his true identity hidden. Elektra and Stick establish a base near the Fist's origin, meanwhile Luke Cage stands his ground as mayor against the Stromwyns. Matt recruits Cole North for what's coming, learns the Hand is allied with the Stromwyns and the Punisher is now leading the Hand from Aka, a former mentor of Elektra's while she was in the Hand. As the year ends, Matt and Elektra complete a brutal spiritual trial, defeating the lingering souls of the Hand. Stick seals the ceremony, declaring Matt and Elektra King and Queen of the reborn Fist as well as husband and wife—before calmly telling them, “Now let's get to work.” This Week's Spotlight: Devil's Reign issues #1-6 from February 2022 to June 2022 Recap Why We Picked This Story Daredevil Rapid Fire Questions The Takeaway Oversaturation and poor quality led to comic book fatigue. Author & Punisher is not fake music generated by a machine. Rather, it is the brainchild of one man with a singular goal in mind; to compose and demonstrate the noise like no other. In a core genre dominated by beeps, boops, and loops, Author & Punisher builds something real. (Pun intended) Don't be scared of the drone machines, they're not coming for us all, yet. Lucas and Joe have had their senses overwhelmed.
