After some time apart, the crew is finally reunited and bringing the energy, the laughs, and ALL the geek content you love! In this episode of The Geekz Podcast, we catch up on everything we've been into lately and dive headfirst into the world of movies, TV shows, toy collecting, and more!
The Punisher : One Last Kill ! This Christian-leaning film directed by a martial arts expert preaches a confusing mix of liberal pro-science atheism and Christian deism that would be way more interesting if the fight scenes weren't such a slog. It's too bad because ABSOLUTE DOMINION has so much good going for it. Director Lexi Alexander has a genuinely interesting career and an obvious expertise and passion for combat sports. Her most notable film is possibly PUNISHER: WAR ZONE (2008), a commercial failure at the time that has since become a cult classic. She was notable for being the first female director of a Marvel franchise film, but the gritty and hyper-violent take on PUNISHER didn't land well with critics or audiences. Alexander had some famous defenders though -- comedian Patton Oswalt has repeatedly gone on record praising the film. It's probably not a coincidence that he and fellow celebrity fan Alex Winter both appear in ABSOLUTE DOMINION in supporting roles. We hypothesize that both jumped at the chance to support a new Lexi Alexander project with an interesting script. In ABSOLUTE DOMINION, Oswalt plays a fictional influencer/streamer named Fix Huntley who goes viral in the year 2085 AD pitching the idea for a worldwide martial arts tournament where the major world religions each send a champion to fight for religious dominance. In the war-torn dystopian future of 2085, society jumps at the chance for a civil Mortal Kombat-style tournament instead of scattered warfare and bloodshed. The three major world religions, Celestians, Pentotities, and Dashafaris, all send champions, but a last-minute rogue entry named Sagan Bruno steals the show. Sagan represents the Institute for Humanism in Science -- a perfect fighter born of a eugenics project, to a scientist mother and athlete father, neither of which have a relationship with him. Bruno quickly jumps to the top of the competition, but his worldview is rocked when blessings from a supernatural force begin to guide his combat. Could this force be none other than capital "G" God? Or is it just a miracle of logic and reason? It's too bad ABSOLUTE DOMINION couldn't stick the landing because it is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air in a sea of Christian movies with the exact same stereotypical evangelical perspective. When Skybound announced M.A.S.K. would be joining the Energon Universe, fans immediately had questions. How would Matt Trakker and Miles Mayhem fit alongside Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals? Out this week, we sat down with writer Dan Watters and artist Pye Parr to discuss updating the classic property, designing its iconic vehicles, and why M.A.S.K. offers a unique perspective within the larger Energon Universe. We're running the full uncut interview, featuring even more discussion on cool cars, character dynamics, action sequences, and what readers can expect from the series moving forward. Plus, we recap the biggest comics news of the week, share our favorite new releases, and much more. Joe, Transformers, and its own thing. What aspects of the original property were most important to preserve, and where did you see opportunities to reinvent it for the Energon Universe? Matt Trakker's introduction is fascinating because he's being hunted by the military, yet it quickly becomes clear he wants to be captured. Why was that the right way to introduce him, and what does it reveal about who he is in this version of M.A.S.K.? Miles Mayhem comes across as both calculating and completely unhinged. His fear of Transformers and extraterrestrial threats gives him a very different motivation than a typical villain. What interested you about making him someone who might see himself as humanity's last line of defense? One of the most exciting ideas in M.A.S.K. has always been vehicles transforming into weapons and armor systems. Pye, what was the challenge of updating those iconic transformations for modern audiences while still capturing the toyetic fun fans expect? Dan, after writing Destro, what was appealing about tackling another corner of the Energon Universe? Did your experience with Destro help shape how you approached M.A.S.K., or did you want this book to have a completely different flavor? The first issue hints at a larger arms race involving technology and weapons that may not even originate on Earth. How much of M.A.S.K. is a spy thriller versus a science-fiction story, and where does it fit tonally alongside Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals? Bruce Sato and Gloria Baker are positioned as key new recruits. What qualities do they bring to M.A.S.K. that complement or challenge Matt Trakker's leadership style? The original M.A.S.K. comic debuted in 1987 and had a very different view of global threats and military organizations. Were there any specific elements from that era that you deliberately updated to reflect modern anxieties and geopolitics? Fun question: If you could each claim one M.A.S.K. vehicle and mask from the entire franchise to use in real life for a week, which would you pick and what completely irresponsible thing would you do with it?

In this week's episode, Matt & Alex talk about Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney+. Matt thinks Frank Castle should incorporate more puns into his arsenal if he really wants to be the Punisher. Alex admires Frank's commitment to avoiding therapy at all costs, and they both can't believe how violent a Disney+ show has become. Find out more at https://henchmen-of-comics.pinecast.co

This week on Fantastic Forum, we are taking a look at two very different stories making waves in comics and streaming. First up is The Punisher: One Last Kill on Disney Plus, the gritty new Marvel special starring Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle. Pulled back into a war he tried to leave behind, Castle finds himself facing old enemies, unfinished business, and one final mission soaked in violence and reckoning. We are breaking down whether Bernthal's return delivers the brutal intensity fans have been waiting for and how this story fits into Marvel's darker corner of the universe. Then we turn to If Destruction Be Our Lot #1 from Image Comics, written by Matthew Rosenberg and Mark Elijah Rosenberg with art by Andy MacDonald, colors by Francesco Segala, and letters by Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. Set in a future where humanity is extinct and only the robots left behind remain, the story follows an animatronic Abraham Lincoln named Abe who begins questioning the empty routine of a machine-run world. Blending existential sci-fi and dark humor, the oversized debut explores what it means to keep searching for something more when everything else is gone. Welcome to our show discussing The Punisher special presentation on Disney+ from Marvel studios. The Punisher aka Frank Castle is in a bad head space... and then while we are getting our head around that but while still trying to work out when this is happening as continuity is confusing... he has a John Wick style one against 1000 fight and its violent and brutal... with some dodgy CGI and then its over... This was advertised as a special and was the length of an average episode of episodic TV; yet had the plot points and story of a film / mini series... Some very odd decisions in making this BUT we discuss it and hope you all enjoy our chat!

In this episode, the boys discuss Daredevil, Maul, Punisher and the death of Ted Turner.

We don't do this as much anymore, but here's several things in one episode!1:00 - We're getting older, so today's chatter is about calories! Also we seemingly look down on accountants?7:41 - THOUGHTS - “Daredevil: Born Again, Season 2” (2026).12:55 - THOUGHTS - “Punisher: One Last Kill” (2026). It's odd to have a bottle episode of Marvel inside of this MCU, but maybe they're just open to experimenting these days.23:27 - THOUGHTS - “Gary” (2026). The surprise drop of a bottle episode of “The Bear”.-----Executive Producers: Conner Dempsey • Dustin WeldonTheme Music by Dustin WeldonProduced & Engineered by Conner DempseyPowered by Zoom, QuickTime, Adobe Audition, & Adobe Premiere ProSpecial Thanks to Anchor FM (or “Spotify for Podcasters”, whatever)FOR ENTERTAINMENT PURPOSES ONLY. Naturally, this leads to duck boats, funnel cakes, dead therapists, Geoff Foxworthy confusion, Punisher cat theories, and the annual Greg Lake sacrifice to the Beast. Also on this week's broadcast:Whisp attends Mayor Lee Roth's second ribbon cutting on Hog Street and waits four hours to find the real ribbon.Val Verde News covers a storm drain duckling, a boardwalk curfew, a confidence-shaken funnel cake stand, and the growing menace of Big Duckling.Hawk Rock News checks in on Pet Sounds, the Eagles' Long Goodbye Act 3, Mike Love's hat, and the rising savings power of the Food Gulch loyalty card.Watch Cat Man here: https://veeps.com/mattkoff/c2a88ddf-64f8-4195-bb57-2c8b4e47cc27Subscribe to 108.9 The Hawk wherever you get podcasts. Spider-Noir Editors – Jennifer Barbot, ACE; Tirsa Hackshaw, ACE; Eric Kissack, ACE and Geraud Brisson, ACE Although the editors of Spider-Noir may have all arrived at the series through different paths, they quickly found themselves working toward the same goal: shaping a superhero story that functions first and foremost as a noir detective tale. For Jennifer Barbot, Tirsa Hackshaw, Eric Kissack, and Geraud Brisson, that meant balancing 1930s atmosphere, modern pacing, dry comedy, stylized action, and the very particular energy of a Nicolas Cage performance. Created by Oren Uziel for MGM+ and Prime Video, Spider-Noir stars Nicolas Cage as Ben Reilly, a down-on-his-luck private investigator in 1930s New York who is pulled back into his former life as the city's only superhero, The Spider. The series also stars Lamorne Morris, Li Jun Li, Karen Rodriguez, Jack Huston and Brendan Gleeson, and is presented in both "Authentic Black and White" and "True-Hue Full Color" versions. For the editors, that dual-format release created one of the show's most interesting creative and technical challenges. The editors primarily cut in black and white, leaning into the shadows, contrast and classic noir language of the series, while visual effects reviews often revealed the same scenes in color. The result was a show that could feel emotionally different depending on which version was being watched, even when the underlying performance, rhythm and story remained the same. JENNIFER BARBOT, ACE Jennifer Barbot is an editor whose credits include Your Honor, Raised by Wolves, The Man in the High Castle, Jessica Jones and Dope Thief. On Spider-Noir, Jennifer was drawn to the show's mix of noir style, superhero mythology and emotional character work, as well as the opportunity to help establish the tone of a world that had to feel both period-inspired and contemporary. TIRSA HACKSHAW, ACE Tirsa Hackshaw, ACE has worked across a wide range of television and film projects, including One Piece, Kung Fu, Jupiter's Legacy, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones and The Punisher. Having previously worked with Steve Lightfoot on Marvel's The Punisher, Tirsa came to Spider-Noir with both a love of the noir genre and a deep appreciation for the Spider-Verse, making the show a natural fit for her interests as an editor. ERIC KISSACK, ACE Eric Kissack, ACE is an editor and director whose work includes The Good Place, Veep, Black Monday, Rutherford Falls, Pam & Tommy and The Studio. He has also edited feature comedies such as Role Models, Brüno, Cedar Rapids, The Dictator, Horrible Bosses 2, Daddy's Home, Instant Family, Barb & Star Go to Vista Del Mar and Bottoms. On Spider-Noir, Eric was especially interested in the show's dry, organic comedy and in finding a rhythm that allowed the humor to breathe without undercutting the detective story. GERAUD BRISSON, ACE Geraud Brisson, ACE is a French-American film and television editor whose credits include CODA, The OA, Counterpart, This Close, Shantaram and Lessons in Chemistry. Having previously worked with Steve Lightfoot on Shantaram, Geraud was excited by the chance to explore a superhero-oriented story through the lens of noir. His work on Spider-Noir included sequences that blended action, subjective sound, visual effects and classic film references into the show's distinctive style. Send us Fan MailThis time me and Punisher talk a little bit about the Rousey fight and we call Citizen John to give him some much needed vent time. We also talk about a new show coming to the station.
Do it right, or don't do it at all. In episode 179, Nick Koumalatsos returns to Veteran Made to talk about his work as a consulting producer on The Punisher: One Last Kill and his collaboration with Jon Bernthal to bring Frank Castle back to the screen with honesty, weight, and realism. Nick shares how his own background as a Force Recon Marine and special operations veteran helped shape the character, from the tactical details to the deeper emotional truth of a man who has lost his identity, his purpose, and the people who mattered most to him. We talk about how Nick's book, Excommunicated Warrior, influenced parts of Frank's arc, why the story needed to show rock bottom instead of explain it, and what it means to portray veterans and special operations service members as human beings rather than untouchable icons. We also get into the craft behind the film itself — working with Jon Bernthal and the stunt team to build realistic action sequences, refining weapons manipulation and close quarter combat, and understanding the difference between what is real in life and what reads as real on camera. This is a conversation about transition, accountability, purpose, brotherhood, pain, and the responsibility of telling these stories the right way in the most grounded depiction of a modern veteran in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
