UK Correspondent Vincent McAviney told Mike Hosking that it's a huge scandal that these people have seemingly used insider information to infringe the UK's betting laws. I was looking forward to my conversation with Whitney not just because they were sent my way via our pal Laura Sanders, but because of what they contribute to the world. I'm fascinated by the humor and honesty that lies within their comics, and the way they play with the weight of the subject of sobriety. Please enjoy this conversation as much as I did. In the Studio meets S-X, the Grammy-nominated British record producer and singer-songwriter, as he prepares to launch his career as a solo artist and release his debut album. As a sought-after record producer, S-X, born Sam Gumbley, has worked with the likes of Chance the Rapper, KSI, Skepta, Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne and Nicki Minaj. Laura Sanders follows Sam as he works to transform himself from producer to front-man and show the world who S-X is. Sam demonstrates how he comes up with his tracks, from the first beat to the finishing touches - sometimes using just a podcast mic and laptop. Laura learns some of the tricks of the trade as she goes behind the scenes and watches Sam at work in his Wolverhampton studio as he pieces together his hotly anticipated studio album. He discusses his bi-polar disorder and how he differentiates between his on-stage character S-X and his quieter self, Sam Gumbley. He reveals why he composes his songs on the voice note function on his mobile phone, what it's like to turn your hobby into a job and why that's not always a good thing. He explains why he rarely composes a track before he gets into studio and why waiting around for something to happen can be a bad idea. Plus, we hear tracks from his new album Who We Are, as they're being recorded.

Do you have gold as a part of your investment portfolio? Several years ago there were loads of infomercials about investing in gold, but after today's retirement headline you may want to think twice about complicated investment strategies. Don't miss out on this real-world cautionary tale which provides an example of how and why owners of IRAs with assets invested in nontraditional means need to follow strict guidelines. Press play to listen. Outline of This Episode [2:32] Don't make this $300,000 tax mistake [5:25] You don't have to invest your IRAs in stocks and bonds [12:40] You don't need complexity to have great retirement investments [13:50] When the first RMD is taken from an IRA is the money considered earned income? [16:08] Does the custodian of an IRA pay taxes directly before distribution of the money? Are you signed up for the Every Day Is Saturday newsletter? If you have been wondering how you can submit your own listener question, make sure to head on over to my website RetirementStartsTodayRadio.com and simply click the ask a question button. Another way to submit a question is by responding to my weekly Every Day Is Saturday newsletter which is delivered every Thursday morning. By joining the newsletter not only will you be reminded that in retirement every day is Saturday (even Thursday mornings), you'll also get links to articles and resources that were mentioned on the show. Why one couple owes the IRS $300,000 for storing gold in their home How's this for a headline? A Couple Stored a Gold IRA at Home. They Owe the IRS More Than $300,000. Today's retirement headline was written by Laura Sanders at WSJ. The article discusses a scheme that was promoted years back when ads extolled the benefits of using IRA assets to buy silver and gold coins to store at home or in a safe deposit box. However, the IRS has made it clear that there are strict rules that must be adhered to regarding IRA investments, and the couple failed to follow those rules. You don't have to invest your IRAs in stocks and bonds Many people don't realize that retirement investment accounts don't have to invest the assets in typical securities like stocks, mutual funds, and ETFs. The law actually gives retirement plan investors many options on how they invest funds, as long as it's not in collectibles such as artwork. Retirement accounts can hold investments in real estate, litigation funding, deeds of trust, and even cryptocurrency. One thing to watch out for with these kinds of alternatives is if your investment asset isn't liquid you could be in for some trouble around the time of your 72nd birthday when RMDs start. Make sure to follow the rules The article emphasizes that savers who have decided to invest in alternative assets must follow strict rules so that they are not considered self-dealing. Investors who do not follow the rules closely are risking financial catastrophe. Listen in and click through to the article to hear the details of the case so that you can understand how to avoid this type of costly situation. I am so excited to share this chat I recorded with the one and the only, Lelia Gowland, Founder and CEO of Lelia Gowland, LLC! This episode was recorded on September 25th, and I was supposed to release it on November 14th, in time for the launch of her incredible book You Got This: The Ultimate Negotiation Guide For Professional Women. But, I got slammed by life in many ways. If I had read her book earlier, I might have been able to negotiate my way out of the over-commitment in so many ways! Lol. In this episode with Lelia Gowland, we talk about how she got started in the unique niche she created for herself, her experiences with, and opinions on current Diversity, Equity and Inclusion trends, and, what her book is all about! She also references some AMAZING people in her book. Lelia’s and all of these other references’ contact details are listed below. Episode 107 (Day 2): Show Notes Happy Industrial Water Week Scaling UP! Nation! We are celebrating Day 2 of Industrial Water Week. Day 2 is all about boilers. One of the ways I like to think about our job is that we are heat transfer, efficiency managers. That means we take heat from one place and transfer it to another as cost-effectively as possible. When we talk about boilers, we are putting heat into the system, so that heat can do some work. This work might be to power something, or it could just be to heat something. Either way, the steam boiler is the “workhorse” of our modern-day world. On this special holiday episode, we are back at the Association of Water Technologies Annual Convention. Where we talk a bit about steam boilers and chat with friends of our show. Happy Day 2 of Industrial Water Week. Welcome Back Faithful Listeners! On this episode we have the chance to pick the brains of two local comedians and get their take on the state of the New Orleans comedy scene. Our first guest, Brock LaBorde, is a veritable jack of all trades. He's one of the owners of the New Movement Theater (with locations in New Orleans and Austin), organizes Hell Yes Fest, and is the personal assistant of a legit Hollywood bigwig. By providing nightly improv shows and classes, Brock and his theater provide a invaluable resource to a city where humor comes naturally to so many. In the second half of this week's episode, Laura Sanders joins to provide insight into what it's like being a stand-up comedian in New Orleans. Laura hosts the Bear With Me open mic at Twelve Mile Limit every Monday night at 9 PM, and she regularly performs both locally and around the country. Her quick wit and knowledge of how to properly showcase a diverse group of comedians always makes for a great show. Anywho, I'm grateful for the chance to get to know the folks who make us laugh a little bit and learn about the hard work that it takes to bring that laughter to the stage. I really feel like this should be ending on some sort of punchline... Cheers! Steve
