TITLE: Kentucky Coal Museum installs solar panels to save on electricity bills AUTHOR: By Associated Press Published: April 6, 2017, 9:05 pm SOURCE: http://nbc4i.com/2017/04/06/kentucky-coal-museum-installs-solar-panels-to-save-on-electricity-bills/ Music in this episode is provided by Jodi Peck, the writer lead singer of Miss Quincy & the Twin Peaks Band. TRACK TITLE: “16 Horses” The My Peace River project, created by Jody Peck (Miss Quincy) and Jodie Ponto, is a multimedia snapshot of the people, stories, and life in the Peace Valley area of British Columbia Canada. This area is threatened by the construction of a hydro-electric dam. The purpose of My Peace River project is to bring awareness to the region. It is a collaboration between everyone who has a connection to Peace Valley and forms a cohesive picture of what stands to be lost forever if the Site C dam is constructed. Site C is a disastrous plan to build a giant dam in the Peace River Valley of northeastern BC. It’s an $8.8 billion project that will flood 83 km of farmland, drown wildlife habitat, and trample indigenous rights — all to supply electricity for dirty tar sands extraction and fracking. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has chosen to go against the wishes of First Nations people and will support this disastrous plan. January 2015 is rolling to an end; hope it's been a good month for all y'all. Tonight I dug into the vinyl vaults to feature Ry Cooder's soundtrack for the Wim Wenders film Paris, Texas. Singing by Harry Dean Stanton! I also cobbled together a musical trip across oceans to pay tribute to musicologist and collector of folk tunes Alan Lomax. He was born 100 years ago this week. Early in the show I had a chat with the lovely Miss Quincy, who has an upcoming show at the Imperial, and pop-up brunch at her home! (see rocknrollbushcook.com for details)All in all a fun two hours. Hope you enjoy it, and thanks so much for listening.cheers, valfolkoasis@gmail.com
