Bad Bunny, whose real name is Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio, has been at the center of the Latin music world this past week, with headlines dominated by his sweeping success at the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards, his Super Bowl halftime show announcement, and a new album rollout that's already building major buzz. Listeners everywhere have been talking about his landmark win at the 2025 Latin Grammys, where Bad Bunny took home five awards—including the highly coveted Album of the Year for “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.” That's a significant first for him, as it marks his arrival in one of the major “big general” categories after previously winning only in rap and urban genres. In his acceptance speech, Bad Bunny paid tribute to Puerto Rico and dedicated his wins to the youth of Latin America, urging them to never forget their roots—something he reinforced throughout the album and in public appearances. NPR highlighted this as a moment that has shaped not only the year in Latin music but also conversations about cultural pride and identity. According to ideastream and the AP, performances from his new album, such as “DTMF” and “Weltita” with Chuwi, electrified the Grammy audience and social media alike.“Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” which means “I should have taken more photos,” has proven to be a deeply personal album. Reviews from multiple outlets describe it as a mix of nostalgia, reflection, and tributes to his Puerto Rican heritage. The themes of holding onto memories, processing heartbreak, and championing community pride have resonated strongly with listeners. Both “El Clúb” and the holiday single “Pitorro De Coco” have driven streams and conversation, with “Pitorro De Coco” reflecting on heartbreak amid holiday celebrations. Critics call this album one of his most introspective, showing new depth to Bad Bunny's artistic journey.Outside the awards and album rollout, Bad Bunny has also been confirmed to headline the upcoming Super Bowl halftime show. The NFL's announcement in September triggered a wave of excitement and conversation across social media, especially within the Latin community and beyond. Outlets like The Guilfordian and Japan Today describe this booking as a cultural milestone, underscoring Bad Bunny's influence in bringing Latin music to the global stage for major American audiences.Adding to the excitement, he announced that his sixth studio album, also titled “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” will officially drop on January 5, 2025. Music sites like NME and AOL shared details of a cinematic teaser trailer featuring Bad Bunny and legendary Puerto Rican filmmaker Jacobo Morales discussing the meaning of photos and memories in life. The trailer's contemplative tone signals that the album will dive even deeper into themes of remembrance and love for home, with an expected tracklist of 17 songs, including the already released singles “El Clúb” and “Pitorro De Coco.”This period also sees Bad Bunny's name in Hollywood headlines after his cameo in the trailer for Adam Sandler's “Happy Gilmore 2.” Meanwhile, his Most Wanted Tour ranked as one of the highest-grossing tours of 2024, pulling in over $210 million and cementing his status as a global superstar. Thanks for tuning in—come back next week for more updates on Bad Bunny and the world of music. We are officially 62 months old. Welcome to the latest episode of This Is Not Happening, an album of the month podcast. In Part 1, we review and Album of the Month. This month Guy brings back an artist that we first featured in early 2022, Joy Crookes. Joy is tackling the tricky 2nd album syndrome with her latest release 'Juniper'.In Part 2, we play Spin It or Bin It, we pick a theme and all pick songs that represent that theme. This month, we stick with theme of 'Joy' and ask each other to brings tracks that bring us joy and happiness. ----- Part 1 | Joy Crookes | Juniper -----In January 2022 we reviewed Joy's debut Skin. The consensus was that we loved it and it became a very important and deeply album for some of us. In terms of expectations, the bar was raised when Joy released the single 'Pass the Salt' in January of this year. So what did we get with this sophomore release? Well, a lot is the simple answer! Perhaps not a big leap stylistically but a massive long-jump forwards in terms of song writing and performance. Will that be enough for the pod ... have a listen and tell us what you think.Listen to the album ... HEREWatch some great videos ... HEREWatch a great reaction video from Jakar right ... HERERead a great interview with Joy in Glamour magazine ... HEREListen to a deeply personal and revealing interview ... HERE ----- Part 2 | Spin It or Bin It | 'Joy' -----Songs that bring us 'Joy and Happiness' sounds like a simple theme to find music for ... well, not for one of us who revels in the dark and miserable side of music. The selections are predictably brilliant!Nolan chose 'Jayou' by Jurassic 5.David chose 'Make Me Smile (Come up and see me)' by Steve Harley & Cockney Rebel.Joey chose 'Superstylin' by Groove Armada.Guy went mental and chose 'Josephine' by Chris Rea!We all chose 4 tracks as a shortlist which we combine into a belter of a 16 track playlist, listen to that bad boy HERE.We've been writing the blog for years come and have a look - https://thisisnothappening.net/

Bad Bunny has just had one of the most eventful and triumphant weeks of his career. On Thursday night in Las Vegas, he headlined the 2025 Latin Grammy Awards and won the top honor, Album of the Year, for his deeply personal and genre-defying release “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.” Throughout the show, Bad Bunny's presence was impossible to ignore. Not only did he take home Album of the Year, but he also walked away with multiple wins in urban and reggaeton categories. In his acceptance speech, he dedicated the award to the young people of Puerto Rico and Latin America, reminding everyone to never forget their roots and to always keep dreaming. He told the audience, “There are many ways to show patriotism and defend our land—we choose music.” The Los Angeles Times describes the competition as fierce, but Bad Bunny's performance and message made him the undeniable highlight of the night. The ceremony was filled with electric performances, with Bad Bunny returning to the stage more than once, including an acclaimed collaboration with Chuwi. This week also brought news of Bad Bunny's next chapter. In a surprise move, he released a holiday single called “Pitorro de Coco,” which draws on themes of heartbreak and nostalgia—referencing a traditional Puerto Rican rum drink and weaving his signature storytelling through the new track. According to the Lagos Review, this release sets the stage for his upcoming sixth studio album “Debí Tirar Más Fotos,” due out January 5, 2025. The album was announced via an artistic video teaser featuring acclaimed Puerto Rican filmmaker Jacobo Morales, who reflected on the fleeting nature of life and the importance of capturing memories. Many fans and critics see this as Bad Bunny's most introspective project yet, with the album's themes promising a new and more personal direction.Bad Bunny's recent impact goes far beyond music. Al Jazeera reports that his recent month-long residency in San Juan brought more than $200 million to Puerto Rico's economy. Notably, tickets for the first nine shows were reserved for locals with Puerto Rican ID only, reflecting his commitment to his homeland. Across San Juan, restaurants and businesses have built small shrines to the musician, who remains a deeply loved figure locally even as he dominates the world stage. He's currently one of Puerto Rico's most recognizable exports, boosting both local pride and tourism in an extraordinary way.Despite his immense Spanish-language success, Bad Bunny has not switched to English to chase a broader audience, as others have before him. He is firmly keeping his artistic identity rooted in Puerto Rico. Still, his influence is global: according to Al Jazeera, he was Spotify's most-streamed artist for three years running, and his tour was one of the highest-grossing in 2024.Looking forward, all eyes are on his appearance at the Super Bowl halftime show in February, which will mark his only scheduled performance in the mainland U.S. There's some controversy brewing, as some conservative voices are questioning whether a Spanish-language performance is suitable for the Super Bowl, but Bad Bunny's unwavering confidence and massive fanbase seem ready for the global spotlight.Bad Bunny's week has been nothing short of historic: major award wins, new music, a highly anticipated album, and cementing his status as both a global superstar and a deeply committed Puerto Rican icon. Grammy Nominated Zydeco Master Corey Ledet On a tour through Russia, Ledet was treated like royalty, complete with his own security detail. Fans rushed to touch the band's signature zydeco rubboard — the metal, shoulder-slung vest used to scratch out those infectious rhythms. Enthralled by its sound, they nicknamed it the “magic instrument.”Ledet has taken his music everywhere — Hawaii, Canada, Europe — and always hoped to capture the electricity of his live shows. But the right moment for a live album never quite appeared. That changed when the Anchorage Folk Festival invited him to perform. “When that came up, I thought, this might finally be the chance,” said Ledet, 44, a two-time Grammy nominee. “When I arrived, they had everything ready to record. I started thinking about Clifton Chenier — a lot of his best live cuts were recorded far from home. It worked for the King of Zydeco, so I figured, let me try this.” The result is Live in Alaska — the debut live album from Corey Ledet Zydeco, featuring Ledet's mysterious new accordion, “Black Magic.” After combing through three days of recordings, the band chose 11 tracks that solidify Ledet's well-earned nickname: The Accordion Dragon. The album delivers high-energy, onstage versions of English and Creole favorites from Ledet's 15 previous releases, plus a brand-new track, “Alaska Funk,” an impromptu jam born right there onstage alongside his tight-knit Louisiana crew. website www.CoreyLedet.com Social Media www.Instagram.com/coreyledetzydeco About Music Matters with Darrell Craig Harris The Music Matters Podcast is hosted by Darrell Craig Harris, a globally published music journalist, professional musician, and Getty Images photographer. Spanish pop star Rosalía is back with her new album, Lux. Over eighteen tracks, she trades in the dembow beats that filled her last record Motomami for maximalist orchestral sounds more in line with Björk than Bad Bunny. The album is dense: there's four movements, thirteen languages, arrangements by Caroline Shaw, and a wide breadth of influences – from Benedictine saints to Patti Smith. But despite (or because) all of this, Rosalía has gone on record referring to Lux as, ultimately, a pop album. That's where we come in. On this episode of Switched On Pop, Nate and Reanna put on their tour guide hats to talk all things Lux: its sonic genre-bending, Rosalía's poetic lyricism, and her hyper-local flamenco influence. Songs discussed: Rosalía – Berghain Rosalía – Bizcochito Rosalía – De Madrugá Rosalía – Mio Cristo Rosalía – La Yugular Björk – Joga Caroline Shaw, Roomful of Teeth – Partita for 8 Voices Rosalía – Sexo, Violencia y Llantas Rosalía – Divinize Rosalía – Porcelana Rosalía – Dios Es Un Stalker The Police – Every Breath You Take Rosalía – La Perla Johann Strauss II – The Blue Danube Drake – Push Ups Rosalía – Sauvignon Blanc Lady Gaga – Grigio Girls Adele – I Drink Wine Rosalía – Focu ‘Ranni Rosalía – Novia Robot Rosalía – La Rumba del Perdón Learn more about your ad choices. Neko Case is out with a new album called Neon Grey Midnight Green. In conversation with Emily Fox, Case breaks down what spiderwebs can teach us about self-importance, what female and non-binary folks in the music industry have taught her about confidence and not caring about the male gaze and rock n’ roll’s mythology of “you’re lucky to be here.” “The mythology of you're lucky to be here of rock n’ roll… is very harmful and it's often leveraged to make people think that that theater wasn't built to play music in,” Case says. “Like really? That's weird because I don't know, there's a stage and you have a huge sound system in here. Gosh, I guess we could probably get together and make this happen.”Support the show: https://www.kexp.org/sound/See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

This is Play That Rock n' Roll's interview with STAN BUSH, the man behind iconic '80s soundtrack anthems like "The Touch", "Dare", "Fight to Survive", and "Never Surrender"! In this conversation, we talk about two of the most important people he works with when recording music, how those collaborations played out on this new album, and what motivates him to record his brand of “motivational rock”. We also discussed his musical roots, which go back to his youth in Gainsville, FL where he played in high school talent shows alongside a young Tom Petty AND the Allman Brothers. Then he told me about the first band he recorded an album with, how he launched his solo career, and since he'll be playing shows next year – how he puts together his setlists. And as a bonus, he even tells the story of perhaps the goofiest moment of his career. This week we're getting into Lily Allen's new album West End Girl - a brutally honest look at fame, motherhood, resentment, and the messiness of a Hollywood open relationship. We'll break down the hidden (and not so hidden) meanings in her lyrics, talk about what she's said publicly about open relationships, and then we'll look at Hollywood in general to see which open relationships among celebrities we know about, and which are rumored.
