What if one of the most famous musicians in the world died in the 1960s and the public never realised? For decades a corner of the conspirasphere has insisted that Paul McCartney didn't survive the height of The Beatles. According to the story he died in a car crash in 1966 and was quietly replaced by a look-alike. A man some believers claim was called Billy Shears. It sounds ridiculous. And yet the theory has refused to die. In this brand new 14 part Deep Dive we take the most detailed modern version of the claim, Billy's Back, an abridged version of The Memoirs of Billy Shears, and use it as a springboard to investigate the whole thing properly. We go through the claims piece by piece. Neither the ACOG nor SMFM recommend strict bed rest for preterm birth prevention, or nor preeclampsia. Yet tradition often conflicts with evidence. A prior 2009 survey of MFM specialists, published in the AJOG, on the use of bed rest revealed that 71% used activity restriction in their practice for arrested preterm labor, despite the majority believing it had minimal or no benefit. The authors concluded, “Because most obstetricians in our survey indicated they would prescribe bed rest believing it was associated with minimal or no benefit, it is possible that even if a randomized, prospective trial showed no benefit associated with bed rest, it would still remain a common recommendation.” This brings us to a brand new publication from the Green Journal which is an ancillary study of two randomized trials of preterm birth prevention in women with a short cervical length. These authors sought to evaluate the amount of physical activity in patients at high risk for preterm birth and pregnancy latency and preterm birth. What did they find? It is a bit shocking.     Rev. Laura Bethany Buchleiter is a pastor, speaker, writer, advocate, and consultant. She has over 30 years of experience in various Christian ministry settings. She speaks on topics ranging from gender identity and sexual orientation to self-care and wellness. In all her work Laura Beth draws heavily on her own experiences with PTSD, gender dysphoria, suicidal ideation, and the challenges that come with those when working in faith communities.   Laura Beth was a member of the 2016 Leadership Development Cohort with the Reformation project and has presented workshops on topics ranging from understanding Gender and Intersex in a spiritual context to recovery from spiritual abuse. She planned and participated in the inaugural Free Mom Hugs Tour to Stonewall Inn in 2017. In the fall of 2016, she self-published a book entitled “Shattering Masks: Affirming My Identity and Transitioning My Faith” and in 2021 self-published an album of original music called “The Seminary Sessions: More Than a Melody.”   Laura Beth currently makes her home base in Indianapolis, Indiana, while traveling the country wherever she is needed as an interim pastor. She has lived all over the USA, including Puerto Rico.
