We try something a little different on this episode of Final Round Radio East, as we use the Hyzer Line (704.727.6077) to make a call to two Charlotte-area players who have gotten a hot start to their touring year: Grady Shue and Lance Brown. Grady Shue finished in a tie for sixth place at the Memorial Open in Scottsdale, Arizona, despite a 30-plus hour drive to get there with Jeremy Koling. Not to be outdone, Burlington, NC native Lance Brown won the Wintertime Open beating a field including Paul McBeth, Eagle McMahon, Philo Brathwaite and others in his first A-tier of 2018. Andy Goh and Pat Bowles chat to both of them over the phone to get their take on their performances and see what's awaiting them in 2018. We also discuss Ricky Wysocki's foot fault at the Memorial, James Conrad's "Bottlegate" incident at the same event, the withdraw of Vibram from the world of disc manufacturing, and early season trends in the Par 4. Send in your questions for the Par 4 by shooting us an email at finalroundaradio@gmail.com, and messaging us at @finalroundradio on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. It's our favorite time of year at Final Round Radio East! The USDGC is in town (well, a 30 minute drive south of Charlotte in Rock Hill, SC, but close enough). Andy Goh, Pat Bowles, "Big Wave" Dave George and Kevin Burgess made the trip south to the player's party at Roasting Company after Thursday's Round 2 action. We have some great guests on the mic for this episode. We talked to Brian Schweberger, who missed the cut for this year's event, but is caddying for defending champ Jeremy Koling. Two top ten players after the first two round stopped by next in Philo Brathwaite and Devan Owens. Finally, we get our long awaited interview with Nikko Locastro, who poured his heart and soul out during out interview. Send in your questions for the Par 4 by shooting us an email at finalroundaradio@gmail.com, and messaging us at @finalroundradio on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. With the final round of the 2017 Nick Hyde Memorial cancelled due to the weather, Andy Goh talks to tournament director just a handful of hours after the decision to call the tournament was made. Kevin Keith then talks with Casey Wright and Philo Brathwaite for some player reactions.
Kevin Keith of Final Round Radio Central talks to Matt Siri and Philo Brathwaite ahead of this weekend's Nick Hyde Memorial.
The tour rolls on as Kevin Burgess and Philo Brathwaite of Final Round Radio Touring Edition talk to Pat Brown and Josh Barnhill of Booom Disc Golf.
In the very first episode from the touring edition of Final Round Radio, Kevin Burgess and Philo Brathwaite take a pit stop from their year long tour somewhere in Arizona to talk to Jeremy Rusco of Dynamic Discs and Bobby Brown, aka Cool Daddy Slick Breeze.
We've got big news for you: Final Round Radio is going on the road! Well at least KB is. With Winn Seltzer and Philo Brathwaite. You read that right, KB is going to be touring the country in an RV in 2017 with a Charlotte disc golfer and one of the top touring pros on the circuit. That means that we've got some shoes to fill here in the Queen City. That's where former Final Round Radio guests "Big Wave" Dave George and Pat "PDB" Bowles come in. They're going to be stepping in for KB as co-hosts (along with Andy Goh) for Final Round Radio East. Kevin "K Squared" Keith will also be working the Texas audience with FRR Central recording in Dallas, TX, so that makes three different (but similar) versions of Final Round Radio that will be coming to you in 2017. This is certainly not something that we've done before, but we feel this is the best way to bring the show to you this year. In Episode 62, you'll hear from Dave and Pat about what they will bring to the show, while KB talks about why he decided to make the jump into touring.
Stephen Schroeder may not be a household name on the national disc golf scene yet, but that is going to change soon. Known as one of the farthest throwers on the Charlotte disc golf circuit, and one of the most all-around talented players in the city, Schroeder is ready to show what he's got on a much brighter stage. Qualifying for the 2016 USDGC the hard way (Monday open qualifying), Schroeder surprised everyone but himself by playing to a tie for 25th, beating out notable names like Nate Sexton and Philo Brathwaite. Schroeder looks to build on that momentum in 2017 and take his game to another level. Schroeder joined two thirds of the Final Round Radio crew for Episode 58 where we talked about his ball golf-influenced approach to the game, his quickly growing reputation for teaching some of the best lessons in town and how it felt playing on the same card as defending champ Paul McBeth at this year's USDGC.
In the final act of what turned out to be a three part USDGC special, we talked to Gregg Barsby, Philo Brathwaite and Steve Brinster. These interviews were recorded Thursday night, after the second round of play. As we all know by now, the final round of the USDGC was cut short due to the impact of Hurricane Matthew, making Jeremy Koling the winner. Barsby and Brathwaite were first on the mic, and the duo did not disappoint. Long time Final Round Radio listeners will remember Barsby from his epic interview in Episode 7, and it appears that not much has changed in the year and a half since. Philo is also making his second appearance on Final Round Radio (third if you count our Maple Hill special from earlier this year), having held court in Episode 19. Steve Brinster, the 2013 USDGC champion, makes his Final Round Radio debut in the final segment. Unfortunately, we didn't have time for the Par 4, Hyzer Line (704.727.6077) or Final 9 in any of these interviews, but they'll be back in our next episode.
The Final Round Radio crew posted up at Legal Remedy Brewing Company in Rock Hill, SC during the 2016 USDGC player's party to talk to some of the top names in disc golf. For Episode 55, we're giving you our interviews with Brian Schweberger (Schwebby) and the two members of the first family of disc golf, Valerie Jenkins and Nate Doss. Big thanks once again to Jim Ogburn of Legal Remedy Brewing for letting us recording in the brewery where we had a bit of relative quiet outside the player's party. Stay tuned, as we'll release another special USDGC episode tomorrow featuring our interviews with Gregg Barsby, Philo Brathwaite and Steve Brinster!
We traveled all the way from Charlotte to Leicester, MA and Maple Hill Disc Golf Course to cover the 2016 Vibram Open. Not only did we follow the lead card and film it all for Another Round Productions, but we also set up shop after the final scorecards were turned in to get some candid interviews with some of the top players and ambassadors of the game. Hit the play button to hear interviews with 2012 Women's World Champion Sarah Hokom, Josh Barnhill of Booom Apparel, Philo Brathwaite of 850' albatross fame, and very special guests Terry Miller and Johnny V of Smashboxx TV. We also answer questions for the Par 4 sponsored by NoDa Brewing Company and hear your calls on the Hyzer Line.
