This week on the show we are joined by our buddy Aaron Hitchins from Rockhouse Motion. Aaron talks with us about traveling around North America creating content for some of the largest companies in the outdoor industry. We also manage to talk some hunting, coffee and if he thinks we will be able to hunt Canada this fall. Check it out!
Aaron Hitchins is part of the talented team at Rockhouse Motion. I've always had an appreciation for storytelling in the way of video and recently decided I'd do what I could to begin learning the trade. With the access to beautiful imagers these days that are capable of far more than they were just a handful of years ago, I decided to reach out to Aaron to see if he'd be willing to walk me through where to even begin with video.Aaron might be one of the easiest guys to talk to and it was a pleasure to spend on the phone with him discussing the outdoors, his personal story, his career, and how to approach story telling with video. He was not only helpful, but he was willing to be an open book about everything.I know I've been covering a lot of creative episodes lately, but I think it's important that we talk about the skills of backpacking AND the creative side around it. If you want to document your personal journey or that of a family member so you can have it for years to come, it's good to hear from guys like Aaron so we can be prepared to capture the moments when the happen.Aaron isn't just a great photographer or videographer. He's also passionate about the impact wild places can have on people of all ages and cultures. I can't tell you how much it means to me that guys like Aaron are willing to come on the show to offer up their experiences so that others may learn from them as well.Learning from others is what this show is all about. We might be 38 episodes in now, but we're just getting started!Enjoy this chat with Aaron from Rockhouse!By Land,Emory RonaldTHANKS FOR LISTENING!!Taking the time to listen to this podcast is greatly appreciated! On this episode, Adam is joined by Aaron Hitchins, one of the guys at Rockhouse Motion. They are, without a doubt, one of the best in the business when it comes to film and photography production in the hook and bullet and outdoor recreation space. Aaron wears many hats at Rockhouse and he and Adam spend some time talking about what a job like his entails. If you have any interest in what it’s like to work in the hunting media business, you’ll want to tune in. But perhaps more interestingly, Adam and Aaron went to the same high school AND the same university. They were separated by a few years, so their paths never crossed. Until now. It’s a pretty striking fact that two guys, from rural Ontario, in their own roundabout ways, ended up in the hunting media business. But it speaks to the importance of hunting and the outdoors in the Ottawa Valley where they grew up. Adam and Aaron spend some time talking about their upbringing in small-town Eastern Ontario, what the hunting culture was like back home and share some laughs and memories about that idyllic setting. They then dive into a more serious conversation about the justifications we, as a community, put forth for hunting. Aaron and Adam both believe that the reasons we give for hunting and the labels we attach to ourselves and others in the hunting fraternity are not to be taken lightly. This is a great conversation covering many aspects of the hunting lifestyle. @aaronhitchins @rockhousemotion
Hello friends. Today’s episode of Gritty Bowmen is pretty special, I think. My guests are Logan Ross and Aaron Hitchins from Rockhouse Motion. The first time I met Aaron and Logan I instantly liked them. Logan is, perhaps, one of the kindest and most thoughtful human beings I’ve ever met. And Aaron Hitchins has a sharp wit that reveals a deeply intelligent mind. To me, Logan is as conscientious as a person can be--a human trait that I deeply admire. While Aaron is the counterweight in their relationship; providing constancy, realism, and acceptance for what is. A year ago, Logan told us her story. She was new to hunting--even opposed to hunting before she met Aaron. But then… she learned about hunting; Logan has always been conscientious about where her food came from--and with that as a foundation, she embarked on a bowhunting journey with Aaron. Bowhunting is HARD. And Logan failed at it despite her best efforts. At the end of the 2016 hunting season--Logan still could not answer the question, “can I kill an animal--and if I do, will I be okay with it?” Well... the 2017 hunting season has come to a close… and Logan is ready to answer to those questions. I hope this episode inspires you like it inspires me… to be a better person. To be more conscientious in how I hunt and live. Please take the time to invite your non-hunting friends and family to listen to Logan’s story. Because it matters--it’s the oft-unspoken side of the hunter’s heart and soul Photo Credit: @matt_white_rockhouse
Aaron Hitchins with Rockhouse Motion joins the podcast to try and help Aaron Snyder not be a dick. Whether it was the long, cold, isolated winters in the North, or just a byproduct of his Business School Education, Aaron has a rather overactive imagination. Hello folks, on this episode of Gritty Bowmen I was able to hang out with my friends from Rockhouse motion--Aaron Hitchins, Dustin Lutt and Logan Ross. Sometimes you meet someone who’s work you’ve admired. Or an individual you’ved looked up to because of the message they’ve shared or the principles they stand for. And so in your mind you’ve built them up into something special--and then you meet them and you’re utterly disappointed. They’re not who you thought they were and you feel totally let down. BUT, then there’s the opposite… you meet that person and they’re even cooler than you expected. They’re a breath of fresh air and you feel fortunate to have met them. Well… that’s how I feel about Rockhouse Motion--they’re remarkably talented, quirky, creative, deep-thinking, down-to-earth folks that I feel blessed to know. On this episode of Gritty Bowmen we talk about Logan’s hunting season--being a new hunter who has never killed an animal; we talk about her thoughts and experiences from this past season. Dustin shares his thoughts on having a wife how hunts. And we learn a little more about the stark differences in personality between Dustin and Aaron and how they hunt differently. This is a late night conversation in a hotel room after pulling some long days at the ATA Show earlier this year. I thoroughly enjoy these late-night conversations with excellent people. Sit in and take a listen. And if you haven’t seen their films or are not familiar with their work, go check out the film, Beyond The Roar ; you’ll be glad you did.
