J'imagine l'expression qui se lit sur les visages. Cette assemblée vient de recevoir les Béatitudes, en même temps qu'une série d'imprécations : Malheureux, vous les riches, les repus, les ricaneurs et les vaniteux. Voici maintenant le Christ qui leur demande d'aimer leurs ennemis. J'imagine l'ambiance. 2. « Quelle reconnaissance méritez-vous ? » Je reçois cette question pour moi : de quelle reconnaissance suis-je en attente ? Quelque validation ? Quelque autorisation ? J'interroge le Christ : quelle reconnaissance promet-il ?3. « Aimer nos ennemis » : comment Jésus lui-même a-t-il mis en pratique cette parole ? Comment s'est-il fait des ennemis ? Comment a-t-il aimé les pharisiens ? Comment a-t-il aimé les marchands du temple ? Je mesure le paradoxe.Je réécoute ce texte. Je demande l'esprit de discernement. L'invitation du Christ est moins une injonction pour la réconciliation inconditionnelle et automatique, qu'un appel à lutter contre l'esprit du monde : une soif de reconnaissance, un honneur à défendre, une réputation à sauver. Cette parole est rude, elle porte une violence. Comme un ami parle à un ami, j'ose une conversation franche avec le Christ. Je lui confie ce qui monte de mon cœur : les incompréhensions comme les questions. Je lui dis combien j'attends sa réponse. Âme du Christ, sanctifie-moi. Corps du Christ, sauve-moi. Sang du Christ, enivre-moi. Eau du côté du Christ, lave-moi. Passion du Christ, fortifie-moi. Ô bon Jésus, exauce-moi. Dans tes blessures, cache-moi. Ne permets pas que je sois séparé de toi. De l'ennemi perfide, défends-moi. À l'heure de ma mort, appelle-moi. Ordonne-moi de venir à toi, pour qu'avec tes Saints je te loue, toi, dans les siècles des siècles. No estaba solo al comienzo de su ascenso, sino que tenía la excelente compañía de 73 líderes israelitas. Esa fue la experiencia cumbre para ellos, pues vieron a Dios (teofanía). El texto subraya dos veces el asombroso hecho. También fue único el momento en que los líderes sellaron el pacto con Dios al comer juntos. Era un banquete, y el Dios de Israel fue su anfitrión. Fue un gran honor concedido por Dios a esos líderes. En el Cercano Oriente, participar de la comida con alguien era, en los tiempos bíblicos, y aún hoy en cierta medida, una experiencia significativa, un gran honor y un privilegio. Ofrecía perdón y formaba un vínculo de amistad. Implicaba estar disponible para la otra persona y permanecer juntos en tiempos de crisis y problemas. Al comer juntos, se prometían sin palabras que, si a uno le ocurría algo, el otro acudiría en su ayuda. Una invitación a comer era algo especial que no se dirigía a cualquier persona. Por otra parte, rechazar una invitación era uno de los peores insultos. Esta idea nos ayuda a entender los relatos del Nuevo Testamento en los que Jesucristo fue duramente criticado por comer con pecadores (Luc. 5:30). Cuando los creyentes celebran la Cena del Señor, también establecen este estrecho vínculo con otros creyentes que son pecadores como ellos. Durante esta comida, celebramos el perdón y la salvación que tenemos en Jesús (ver Mat. 26:26-30; Mar. 14:22-25; 1 Cor. 11:23-29). Lamentablemente, algunos de los que habían subido con Moisés cayeron más tarde en pecado y perdieron la vida (ver Lev. 10:1, 2, 9). Aunque tuvieron allí una experiencia tan profunda con Dios, no fueron transformados ni convertidos por ella. La poderosa lección que esto enseña es que la posesión de la verdad y de privilegios sagrados no implica necesariamente conversión. En vista de la privilegiada experiencia que tuvieron en el monte, estos hombres deberían haber sido los últimos en caer como lo hicieron. Reflexiona detenidamente en la historia de estos hombres tan privilegiados, que eran incluso hijos de Aarón. ¿Qué advertencia representa esto para nosotros como adventistas, tan privilegiados por la luz que se nos ha confiado?

Porque escrito está: ‘Mía es la venganza, yo pagaré, dice el Señor' ” (Rom. 12:19; ver también Deut. 32:35). ¿Qué promesa y qué mandato se encuentran en los versículos recién citados, y cómo están estrechamente relacionados? Hasta que el Señor traiga la justicia, que tanta falta hace, era el deber de los jueces en el antiguo Israel aplicar la ley y determinar un castigo justo cuando ocurría un daño o lesión. Pero primero necesitaban investigar los hechos. El problema era que los maestros de la Ley en la época de Cristo aplicaban esta ley de una manera que abría la puerta a la venganza personal. Al hacerlo, el principio fue sacado de su contexto, y se perdió el propósito inicial. En consecuencia, defendían lo que la Ley realmente prohibía. Lee Mateo 6:4, 6; 16:27; Lucas 6:23, y 2 Timoteo 4:8. ¿Qué nos dicen estos textos acerca de cómo veía Jesús los principios relativos a la recompensa y el castigo? Jesús no estaba en contra del principio de la recompensa y el castigo. La justicia es una cuestión de principios; es una parte crucial de la vida. Sin embargo, ningún individuo debe asumir el papel de juez, jurado y “verdugo”. ¡Qué fácil sería para nosotros pervertir la justicia! No nos corresponde a nosotros reparar el daño. Si hay que reparar un mal, debe hacerlo un tribunal objetivo; es la labor de los jueces. En este contexto, Jesús nos dice que seamos tan perfectos como nuestro “Padre celestial es perfecto” (Mat. 5:48). ¿Cómo podemos ser tan perfectos como Dios mismo? El amor desinteresado es la característica primordial de Dios. Él enseña a sus seguidores a amar a sus enemigos y a orar por quienes los persiguen. La verdadera perfección consiste en amar, perdonar y ser misericordioso (Luc. 6:36), incluso con quienes no lo merecen. Este principio, y las acciones a las que conduce, es lo que significa reflejar el carácter de Dios. ¿Cómo podemos aprender día a día a amar como se nos ha ordenado? ¿Por qué esto implica siempre la muerte al yo?
