Long-time Avenue Red resident selector Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey makes his 9th contribution to our imprint in as many years to keep the momentum going strongly for the BIG 200! This ~100-minute-long mix is textbook Rubsilent, delving into his deep vinyl collection to pull out a wide spectrum of the finest house & techno selections, spanning from the inception of the genres to the present day. Keep notes - all DJ's can learn many things from this seasoned pro of the underground. "Between a day job work schedule and adapting myself to parenthood in mid-40's, life no longer allows me to spend as much time as I want on the decks at home. As the priorities are straightened I struggle with finding the inspiration and motivation to record a mix to tell a story these days and if the mix wouldn't tell a story I see no point of sharing it with people for being connected. After about 6 months of not recording a mix other than a few local gigs here and there, exchanging some messages with Alec on social media got me inspired to put a session together. Here you may hear that selection of old and new tracks mixed in one go on my home set up. It was a smooth effortless one-go ride for me - I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed playing these records!" Avenue Red is very proud to present underground heavyweight mafia boss, Hamza Solim AKA Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey. This is his 7th mix for Avenue Red, another action-packed adventure through his weird and wonderful collection of house, techno and electro madness. Surely no introduction is needed for our Istanbul correspondent: Hamza Solim AKA Rubsilent. If you need one, see the links to previous episodes below. After delivering 5 mind-boggling selections on the main series, followed by another to celebrate 5 years of Avenue Red, we now see him turn out a mix for our 1210 sister series, which is a nod to the oldskool and Technics 1210 turntables. The DJ must select 12 records that are 10+ years old... yet in Rubsilent (as with Paul Rimbaud before him on the previous episode) we have another rule breaker! We could trust he'd be greedy and need to play just one more tune - he has that gene. Enjoy this pro selection from a true master. https://soundcloud.com/rubsilent See also: https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/avenue-red-is-5-rubsilent https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-079-rubsilent https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-060-rubsilent https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-049-rubsilent https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-040-rubsilent https://soundcloud.com/avenue-red/podcast-028-rubsilent ===== 01 Convextion - Untitled // Matrix (1995) 02 HMC - Digits // Juice Records (1995) 03 Sterac - X-Tracks // 100% Pure (1995) 04 Freq - With A Vengeance (Psykofuk Remix) // Matrix (1997) 05 Substance - Relish // Chain Reaction (1996) 06 Wildplanet - Synthetic // 430 West (1998) 07 Marius - Fluidum // Wally's Groove World (1999) 08 Tan-Ru - Engine // Trelik (1997) 09 Ismistik - Option Base // Djax-Up-Beats (1993) 10 Max 404 - Untitled // Eevo Lute Muzique (1994) 11 DJ Madskillz - Morning Glory (Jerome's Rising Sun Mix) // 100% Pure (2004) 12 Basic Bastard - Deep City // Spiritual Records (1995) 13 Mark Broom - Snap Shot // Pure Plastic (1996)
Avenue Red was started in July 2013 with the intention of creating a good, steady platform for passionate music collectors, DJ's, artists and label owners who we found to have something special on their music pages, yet were flying far below the radar of mainstream press and hype. We are here to showcase the good, friendly people who we find not to be trying to play some stealthy game of music scene politics with hidden agendas, gimmicks, sideshow fads or any other holographic projections of inflated egos. Instead, we aim to showcase those content with their low underground profile - tasteful diggers and purveyors dedicated to filtering wheat from chaff to distill the sweetest, most enjoyable and educational mixtapes. In these 5 years to date Avenue Red has featured a diverse range of 86 talented DJ's/artists from around the world, from Russia to the USA and from Peru to the UK. Thanks to all of you for contributing such great works over these years! To celebrate this milestone we will be releasing 5 separate mixtapes in a mini-series over the coming weeks, which will draw focus on our most frequent and outstanding contributors so far. To get this party started we welcome the magical master technician from Istanbul... step up Rubsilent!! "My path crossed with Alec's and his Avenue Red podcast series 3 years ago after exchanging messages via Soundcloud over the Relief Records tribute mix that I recorded in early 00's and shared online after recovering the recording from a MiniDisc. Rest is history... When it comes to electronic music I believe in no barriers between the genres, which comes from my being hooked on this approach in the 90's with the likes of Laurent Garnier and Derrick May as role models. I have recorded five mixes over the years for Avenue Red and this is my 6th contribution. Some may lean towards a certain genre but in order to entertain myself first I tried telling different stories on each session by travelling thorough different moods and styles. This 5th year anniversary contribution is reflecting a more positive, house-y side of me here. Lots of USA house from places like Chicago, Detroit as well as European sounds from past and present... I was recently reunited with a box of 50 of my records after 11 years apart (all from my time living in Chicago), so naturally I was keen to drop some of those records in this session. I'm humbled to be asked to return back to Avenue Red with this special 5th year anniversary selection. Many thanks to Alec for his hard work and to all the listeners throughout the years. Happy Birthday Avenue Red! Many happy returns." Chubby! on Facebook: www.facebook.com/chubbyrecords @rubsilent A veteran DJ from Istanbul Turkey, part-time DJ and a full-time vinyl junkie, Rubsilent started collecting records back in 1996 and it has been his obsession ever since. It is interesting to note that he had actually moved to Chicago for University in year 2000, which he notes was partially motivated by his desire to pay a musical pilgrimage to this enormous factory of house music. He moved back to Istanbul in 2007 with a much advanced record collection and inevitably a better knowledge of the rich musical heritage of the sprawling US megacity that is rarely disputed to be the birthplace of house music. "I enjoy manipulating tracks with longer transitions, taking listeners on long journeys, never limiting my selections to a specific sub-genre. For the last Avenue Red Podcast of 2016 we finally have a specially crafted mix from Janne Rasi, a very tasteful collector/selector who comes from the Finnish capital city of Helsinki. We first became aware of Janne's discerning blend of soulful, deep, murky House music from hearing his "Street Party" contribution to the 2014 Discogs DJ Mix Competition, which we were very taken by and thus asked him for a mix back then. Just over 2 years later and our inbox becomes aglow with a lovely mix from out of the blue that here follows the maverick selection from Rubsilent, who won that competition back in 2014! We absolutely love this mix, such a high quality addition to our pile of digital mixtapes to close 2016 with. "I've been searching for and playing records for 15 years now. Deep House is the core of most of my sets with exceptions where they fit, especially with Techno and Disco. Different events, moods and locations are calling for different music and I like it that way. I'm occasionally playing somewhere in Helsinki or more frequently streaming online, which is a casual way to satisfy the need of spinning wax. On this mix, I was probably influenced by the Finnish winter landscape. This is a selection of atmospheric, melancholic Deep House. Obviously something for your mind, your body and your soul. It was mixed at my place with three decks at one shot without any post editing. 100% vinyl as usual." Janne Rasi, December 2016 https://soundcloud.com/jannerasi
Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey is back with his 5th contribution to the series with another marathon session of absolutely blinding tunes, new and old. "As year 2016 draws to a close I'd say it's been another great year for quality tunes coming from genres that I follow. In fact this may be the year where I have set a new personal record for total records purchased! I felt like blending new additions to my collection with some older pieces as usual and instead of travelling between completely different genres, I kept it mainly house oriented this time. The mix comprises many different moods of house from tough acid bangers to spaced out deepness. After building things up steadily in the first 90 minutes I got locked in. The inspiration and mood was flowing perfectly and I didn't feel like stopping, so I cut deeper back into my crate of selections and continued spontaneously 'till the natural conclusion was reached." Rubsilent from Istanbul, Turkey takes us on a slow-building trip through his amazing record collection with his 4th contribution to the series, taking us 60 deep. As far as we are concerned, Rubsilent (real name Hamza Solim) is probably the best DJ in the whole world. Fabric, Panorama Bar and other world stages of the underground: we urge you all to take note! "I must've purchased dozens of records within the past few months but they just sit and collect dust. I hardly record a selection with them because I started to get bored with idea of putting out mixes on a constant basis, I began to feel like it's no different from running around in circles somewhat, you feel your mixes are easily drowned as the internet is over-loaded with music these days. I keep purchasing the music that I feel on vinyl like always, from bangin' house to acid tracks, deepest house to chunky techno, but I hardly record any new sessions these days. I get to DJ out at clubs here in Istanbul but in order to play proper music for the heads at clubs in town, there has to be some decent afterhours club/small chill out room that's open-minded and receptive enough. The only trouble is you never really get both sides of the coin at one venue/event around here. So, I decided to come up with a selection where I can set the mood for late nights but that restlessness in my soul made me squeeze some naughty beats here and there too, so here is the latest Avenue Red selection for you! Some dusty deepness or acid traxx from the vault, mixed with fresh purchases of both new and old new records." Hamza Solim, February 2016. Following on from his first contribution for the 28th Avenue Red Podcast he is back for the 40th!! We are very proud to present another exciting mix from Rubsilent (real name Hamza Solim) from Istanbul, Turkey. A master collector/selector since '96, Rubsilent has delivered this impeccably mixed set of soul-warming, body grooving, summery tunes at the perfect moment. This is the Avenue Red soundtrack to the summer delivered by our number-1 man for the job! Enjoy on a hot day with a chilled drink... with ice... and one of those little umberellas sticking out of the top! :D "Since 1996 I have been constantly buying the music that I love on vinyl, however I don't necessarily rush ahead and cram mixtapes full of all my latest new purchases. I like to mix old and new and I publish online the ones I believe in, however I noticed that I hadn't really come up with a 99% pure house-oriented session for a while... This mix contains some new releases and some records that I haven't touched for many years that have been collecting layers of dust. So as the summer is around the corner I decided to come up with a more jazzy, groovy and organic session. Here it is, enjoy the sounds and the summer vibes!" Hamza Solim, May 2015. The 28th Avenue Red Podcast is an extravagant 160-minute selection of House & Techno goodies from the vast record collection - and very capable hands - of a veteran DJ known as Rubsilent (real name Hamza Solim) from Istanbul, Turkey. A part-time DJ and a full-time vinyl junkie, Rubsilent started collecting records back in 1996 and it has been his obsession ever since. Rubsilent was first bought to our attention with his incredible tribute mix of Chicago's Relief Records (https://soundcloud.com/rubsilent/relief-records-chicago-1994), a juggernaut session that really did justice to the sounds of the label and illustrated how hard-edged and unique this Chicago brand of music was. It is interesting to note that Hamza had actually moved to Chicago for University in year 2000, which he notes was partially motivated by his desire to pay a musical pilgrimage to this enormous factory of house music. He moved back to Istanbul in 2007 with a much advanced record collection and inevitably a better knowledge of the rich musical heritage of the sprawling US megacity that is rarely disputed to be the birthplace of house music. From listening to his Relief mix we had a dig through his other mixes... seemingly a 1-man mix machine delivering music with flowing consistency, intelligent sequencing and unreal selections. We're very used to these types, but even for us this guy is pretty intense. Soak it up in your headphones or on your soundsystem at high volume and enjoy this rare fusion of DJ'ing talent in a truly banging mix! "I enjoy manipulating tracks with longer transitions, taking listeners on long journeys, never limiting my selections to a specific sub-genre. My primary focus is on House and Techno and anything in between, as my mixes contain a blend of new tunes mixed with timeless out-of-print cuts from yesteryear and yesterdecades." Hamza Solim, November 2014. @rubsilent ===== No tracklist was provided for this mix, but do feel free to ask for track ID's in the comments.
