Latvian duo Taran & Lomov present 'Semper Supra' – their debut LP on their own label Amber Muse; a refined and accomplish long player that showcases the tip of an iceberg patiently built across two dedicated and long-spanning careers in the music industry. Together, the pair have managed to earn the coveted stripes of 'jack of many, master of many' across a fruitful and symbiotic 20 years. They've turned their hands to promotion, production, remixing, radio hosting, music journalism and DJing. At this point, they have a gilded resume that includes support for their releases from the likes of Jane Fitz and Laurent Garnier, releases on W&O Street Tracks, Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings and Dense & Pika's Kneaded Pains as Queer On Acid and of course – their basecamp – the Amber Muse Radio show. Musically, 'Semper Supra' is a genre-flexing trip with its roots in early 2000s Minimal and late 90s Electronica. 9 tracks bearing flecks of influence from labels like Time Passages, Perlon and Warp as well as artists such as Black Dog, Metamatics, Binh and Jan Jelenik meld in a head-twisting brew - one that caters to listeners on any point in the spectrum between after-hours raver to armchair astronaut. The glue in the record is the subtly haunting energy omitted by the synths, sweeps and atmospherics that course through the album. The spectral glow these conjure hangs gently over a variety of bpms and intensities, keepings things suffused in a dubby fog that gives a living, breathing sense of space and atmosphere. Case and point being 'Nano Crab' - a patient, frosty recording that stacks energy in subtly folding layers of mangled, otherworldly signals and primal rhythms. 'Slow East' follows up with a skeletal Electro track that oozes with an ominous mood often clocked in Nicolas Lutz's extended sets. The warped robotics and cold sonics of 'Slickers' are given life and mobility via groove and clever sequencing while 'Corp' whips up into a more frenzied zone. Alarm tones burnt and bit crushed while drums move with the sort of urgency required for boiling point dance floors before the title track provides an allaying landing pad as it scatters pin-prick melodies across a wide, icy soundscape. ambermuse.com/taran-lomov-bio facebook.com/TaranLomov ra.co/dj/taranlomov soundcloud.com/ambermuse facebook.com/AmberMuseRec instagram.com/ambermuserec

It's the 150th episode of Lost and Sound and I'm joined by the legendary DJ and producer Laurent Garnier, who this week releases his epic Fabric Presents Mix, celebrating 25 years of the London superclub.Garnier famously checks out 400+ tracks a day, and we discuss how he sustains his passion for music amidst an avalanche of daily releases. He underscores the relentless pursuit of musical treasures, maintaining that even in a saturated market, gems persist. Garnier also reflects on the evolution of DJ culture and music trends, highlighting the significance of resisting nostalgia and embracing fresh tracks while acknowledging the challenges posed by technological advances in music distribution. Our conversation also touches on the nuances of today's techno scene, where commercial and underground elements often blur, not always in the best way. Garnier's approach shifts towards intimate venues that prioritize artistic expression over mainstream success. Lastly, we celebrate Fabric's 25th anniversary with Garnier's contribution: a mix for each of Fabric's rooms and a special "fourth room" mix for home listeners. Garnier is also a keen cook, and we draw on the parralels between clubs and restaurants, and how good resident DJs fulfull the same need for the culture as good chefs do. I loved hearing his insights into maintaining a successful DJ career, understanding crowd dynamics, and the intricacies of performing for different audiences. If you like what I'm doing with Lost and Sound, please like, rate, review or subscribe to the show on your podcast app of choice – it really does help.fabric presents Laurent Garnier: celebrating 25 years of fabric. London / Bristol / Manchester - all tickets: scubaoficial.io/liveHow could we possibly follow last week's episode with the techno legend Luke Slater? Well, with another legend of techno of course! Laurent Garnier is, in fact, and all-time great of dance music PERIOD. He was playing the Hacienda before acid house really got going. He can plausibly claim a large amount of the credit for the sound gaining popularity in France. And he continues to be one of the best DJs on the planet. So it's a slightly daunting prospect to welcome him to a humble podcast such as ours, but welcome him we absolutely do. Discussion topics include: what are the challenge facing the current scene, and the grounds for optimism. We talk about Paris as a dance music city, and the role of venues such as the Rex Club and Concrete. And we talk about his relationship with music, as a DJ and also as a producer. This is a great conversation with a man who many claim to be the GOAT. You're gonna enjoy it...If you're into what we're doing here on the pod then you can support the show on Patreon! There are two tiers - "Solidarity" for $4 a month, which features the show without ads, regular bonus podcasts, and extra content. And "Musicality" which for a mere $10 a month gets you all the music we release on Hotflush and affiliate labels AND other music too, some of which never comes out anywhere else. You can also make a one-off donation to the podcast using a card, with Paypal, or your Ethereum wallet! In 2008 I started a series of radio shows with fellow Freak and host, Jonny Rock. The original format was based around vinyl. Digital started to creep in, then CD's, then YouTube rips, and so on. But the idea remained the same, that we were sharing our discoveries with an audience.Fast forwarding a couple of years and expanding on the original concept, I will once again be playing dance music that you may or may not have heard, but this time said music will be readily available, if pointed in the right direction of course. The idea is for you to use me as your selector slash shop assistant in a virtual record store. Not only will I be shouting about both old and new music, but I will also be following it up with a series of compilations to be released on my label, Classic throughout the year. I will be your slightly odd, slightly off-centre, guide. But ultimately and most importantly, your friendly on-line record shop assistant. 1. Girls Of The Internet - Gravity2. Charles - UK OG, bona fide house music royalty, 35 years of excellence and counting. While Ursula – Philly poet who has been sought out by The Roots, Louie Vega, Hans Bieger, Ron Trent, Josh Wink and more. A dream pairing in our heads that became a dream collaboration on our label. We knew they would produce a stone cold classic. The original version appeared on our Decade 5 birthday EP and elicited stunning reactions…so it only seemed fitting to kick off 2024 with a full release. On remix duties, mighty German duo Clavis, another team who have been on the Seladorian wish list for aeons…and who come up trumps with a mesmeric re-rub utilising Ursula's full vocal over their trademark sound. Very early support from Laurent Garnier, John Digweed, Danny Howells and Jimpster for this remix. Meanwhile, over the years all of the many Charles-produced vocal gems have had a peerless accompanying dub. It would be churlish to break that wonderful habit. Oh, and the acapella too.. bonus! Growing up within the rich club culture of NYC during his early years profoundly influenced the artistic journey of Avision.  So much so that today, he finds himself at the forefront of a fresh wave of techno to the New York scene.  His debut album ‘In My Mind' received acclaim from ‘DJ Mag UK', who described it as “an impressive body of work stuffed full of melodic techno and maximal house”. Hame isn't a dermatologist (shock, horror!) but he has theory about skin. Whatever effects a skincare product might promise to have on your wrinkles/ageing skin/your 'glow' - the best way to improve your skin is from the inside out. Changing what you put into your body (starting with alcohol of course) has noticeably faster and more effective improvements on your skin quality than any product on the market. Vic and Hame explore the changes they have noticed when looking back on their drinking years and take a deeper look into the science of what alcohol does to your skin. Also...quick warning...Vic was feeling giggly this episode. She loses it a few times. Just the usual high brow humour as you can imagine and no mention of penises at all! Show Notes: Man with the Red Face by Laurent Garnier: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KJkoBH68njQ Ed Sheeran talking unhealthy alcohol cycles: https://www.instagram.com/reel/CuLqH_Gq1iA/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== Ingredients of baking soda (!): Baking Soda is made from soda ash, also known as sodium carbonate. The soda ash is obtained in one of two ways: it can be manufactured by passing carbon dioxide and ammonia through a concentrated solution of sodium chloride (table salt).  RESOURCES This episode is proudly sponsored by Buds and Beads tea.
