As we continue to look at how we grow spiritually, our attention turns to our God. What is His part in our spiritual growth? How does He help us with that? Join us this week as we explore how God not only sets the path of growth before us, but also helps us to walk in it.

It may see like any decision, but do we actually even have the ability to choose to live, or is life given to us as a gift?

God's Word seems so restrictive and oppressive! God can sometimes even seem like a tyrant in insisting on His way, All the way. The truth, though, is that in a battle for life and death where we are not in control of our own fate, obedience to God is massively liberating, and certainly more freedom than slavery to sin, death, and the devil, which masquerades as independence.

It is as important as ever that we understand God’s message of life, believe that message, live that message, share that message; understand what we mean when I say, *message*. Today I actually want to begin the series with the end. The Bible explained 3000 years ago what is happening right now to us today in America. We made a choice. We chose death. We’ll go from today to taking a look at suicide, murder, the death penalty and the answer God has for us in the midst of all this. Is this a fun series? No, but how important for us to think, to speak biblically to what is happening all around us.

God Allows us to Call our own plays. God gives us the freedom to choose our own destinies. We must live with the consequences of our choices. Choosing to follow Christ is our most important choice

We looked back and celebrated God's presence with us in 2016. In worship, we sang songs of gratitude for God's love and faithfulness and provision, read Scriptures that speak to the centrality of God in our lives. We prayed, thanking God for the many blessings we received this past year.

Deuteronomy 30:15-30 15 "See, v I have set before you today life and good, death and evil. 16 If you obey the commandments of the Lord your God 1 that I command you today, w by loving the Lord your God, by walking in his ways, and by keeping his commandments and his statutes and his rules, 2 then you shall live and multiply, and the Lord your God will bless you in the land that you are entering to take possession of it. 17 But if x your heart turns away, and you will not hear, but are drawn away to worship other gods and serve them, 18 y I declare to you today, that you shall surely perish. You shall not live long in the land that you are going over the Jordan to enter and possess. 19 I call heaven and earth to witness against you today, that I have set before you life and death, z blessing and curse. Therefore choose life, that you and your offspring may live, 20 loving the Lord your God, obeying his voice a and holding fast to him, for b he is your life and length of days, that you may dwell in c the land that the Lord swore to your fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give them."
There is an ongoing conversation in our culture (and every culture – both formally and informally) about what lifestyles and practices are acceptable and normal. Defining normal is important because the collective understanding of right & wrong/good & bad has a powerful impact on the way the people in that culture live
