Al-Mugheera Ibn Shu'ba رضي الله عنه (S18) The Thaqeef began negotiations with our Messenger ﷺ. They asked if they could be excused from Fardh prayers, as they found it demeaning. Our Messenger ﷺ replied: “There is no goodness in Islam without Salah”. Our Messenger ﷺ: “Embrace Islam, even if you have doubts”. A common misconception is that one must be perfect before embracing Islam. This is opposite to the truth. The Thaqeef asked if they could be excused from Zakat and Jihad, which The Messenger ﷺ said is fine. They requested to be able to still do Zina, Riba and Khamar. Our Messenger ﷺ recited the respective verses prohibiting these things. The delegation were worried that their people back in Ta'if could never handle these conditions. A wise man amongst them said: “Men with him [i.e with The Messenger ﷺ] used to do all these things, now they have quit, so can we”. The only completely non-negotiable thing is Shirk.

Yaum-e-Gham 1446 AHEve of 12th Shawwal 1446 AHThursday April 10th 2025- The destruction of Jannatul Baqi took place on 8 Shawwāl 1343 (2 May 1925) by the Wahhabis, targeting the graves of the Ahlul Bayt, companions, and others in Medina. - Wahhabi ideology sees respect shown at graves as shirk, failing to differentiate between worship and reverence. - If not for fear of global backlash, Wahhabis might have demolished the Prophet's grave and incorporated it into the mosque. - A fatwa from Wahhabi scholars states that prayer in a mosque containing a grave is invalid, and graves must be exhumed and relocated. - The Qur'an shows that expressions of humility, like bowing or prostrating, are not inherently acts of worship. - ‘Ibādat (worship) is defined as humility expressed toward someone believed to be God, true or false. - Prostration (sajdah) was commanded by Allah to the angels for Prophet Ādam and done by Ya‘qūb and his sons for Prophet Yūsuf, proving it's not always worship. - Building shrines or visiting graves of righteous figures is not worship but an expression of respect and love. - No Muslim visits the graves of the Prophet or Imams with the intention of worshipping them—rather, it is a spiritual connection. - Despite the light and glory of shrines in Najaf, Karbala, Kazimayn, Samarrah, and Mashhad, Baqi remains desolate—yet the love for the Ahlul Bayt continues through remembrance and grief, especially for Sayyida Fatima.Donate towards our programs today: https://jaffari.org/donate/Jaffari Community Centre (JCC Live)

Just how radically different is the portrait of Isa in the Qur'an with Jesus of the Bible? This week we'll hear once more from president of Watchman Fellowship James Walker's interview with Sara, a former Muslim, who was moved and convicted by Jesus' Sermon on the Mount in Matthew. If Allah is truly merciful and loving, why did the Sermon on the Mount seem so radically different than the Allah of the Qur'an? This interview took place live at the Defend Apologetics Conference at New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary this past January.Sara is is a former Muslim who became a Christian after questioning the teachings of the Qur'an and the Hadiths. This week we conclude our series on Islam with the testimony of a former Muslim who became a Christian after questioning some of the basic teachings of the Qur'an and the Hadiths. On this episode president of Watchman Fellowship James Walker had a chance to talk with Sara at the Defend Apologetics Conference in January about her transition from Islam to Christianity. This week we'll hear about Sara's background with Islam and how she started to question what the Qur'an and the Hadiths really say about Jesus.Sara is is a former Muslim who became a Christian after questioning the teachings of the Qur'an and the Hadiths. When engaging Muslims with the truth of Christianity, it is crucial we understand clearly not only our own doctrines but those of our Muslim friends and neighbors as well. While we use many familiar-sounding concepts, our definitions are often radically different. This week on the Profile we continue our discussion with founder and president of Jordan Evangelical Theological Seminary in Aman, Jordan Dr. Imad Shehadeh. We talk more about his 2020 two-volume publication God With Us and Without Us - The Beauty and Power of Oneness in Trinity versus Absolute Oneness. Imad will share more valuable insights from his decades of engagement with Muslims about the nature of our Triune God and the absolute oneness of Allah.Dr. Imad Shehadeh is President and Senior Professor of Theology at Jordan Evangelical Theological Seminary, Amman, Jordan, which he founded in 1991. Dr Shehadeh earned his PhD from Dallas Theological Seminary, Texas, and has carried out post-doctoral studies at the Evangelische Theologische Faculteit, Leuven, Belgium, and the University of Edinburgh, UK. He has a wide-ranging preaching and teaching ministry including online and television series, and speaking at churches, seminaries and conferences. Click here for Lunar New Year community livestreaming signup. 6pm Pacific Time, Jan 29thI never deliberately timed this piece with the presidential inauguration of Donald Trump, yet now that we have stumbled upon this occasion, it also seems fitting. For to answer the question “what will Trump do about China?” it is necessary to revisit and review the recent history of U.S.-China relations, the dynamics of both American and Chinese domestic politics, and the macro forces shaping the political environment. Luckily, we are gifted with another piece of oral history from our honorable guest, Prof. Susan Shirk of UC San Diego.Followers of this Substack will find her a familiar figure, for we have so far published two pieces of her oral history (part one and part two). For new readers, I will introduce Prof. Shirk again: She is a research professor at the UC San Diego School of Global Policy and Strategy, director-emeritus of the 21st Century China Center, and director-emeritus of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC). She is one of the West's foremost thinkers on Chinese elite politics and political institutions, who, having first travelled to China in the early ‘70s, has witnessed the country from the Mao to the Xi eras. Between 1997 and 2000, Susan served in the Clinton administration as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of State, overseeing U.S. relations with China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Mongolia. This interview took place last summer. Much has happened since then, not least the election of Trump. Some parts of this interview may be slightly outdated, but I find it holds up well. Many regard Trump as a hawkish figure on China, so it is refreshing to hear Susan raise the possibility of a U.S.-China reengagement under Trump. America has a history of anti-communist presidents exercising a policy of engagement, from Richard Nixon to Ronald Reagan; being anti-communist is almost a prerequisite in American politics to practice rapprochement, since only then are you trusted enough to speak to enemies. Maybe history will repeat itself under Trump. However, most of this interview — which was edited for brevity and clarity — is not about Trump but about China's own political future. We review missed opportunities and key turning points in the recent history of U.S.-China relations, political changes under Xi Jinping, Susan's personal relationships with key Chinese foreign policy figures Wang Yi and Fu Ying, and a contemplation of Chinese politics after Xi.Hope you enjoy.Best,LeoFor quick navigation to the specific sections:The death of U.S.-China cooperation: “China's behaviour changed. When sharing our own testimonies and stories about our faith in Christ with Muslims, it is essential to know some basic differences between Christianity and Islam. What do Muslims believe about the Trinity? What is the true nature of God? What are the fundamental differences between the God of the Bible and Allah of the Qur'an? This week we continue our discussion with Dr. Sherene Khouri, author and assistant professor of Arabic at Liberty University of Virginia, about her new book, Triune Rationality - A Trinitarian Response to Islamic Monotheism. Dr. Khouri provides us with helpful historical insights and key theological concepts that will both enrich and better inform our apologetic conversations with our Muslim friends and neighbors.Sherene Nicholas Khouri (PhD, Liberty University) is assistant professor of Arabic at Liberty University and also teaches courses on theology, apologetics, Arabic Christianity, and Islam in the John W. Rawlings School of Divinity. Born in Damascus, Syria, she served the Arabic church in the Middle East for thirteen years.Related Links: Access additional Watchman Fellowship resources related to this week's podcast: Watchman book: What the Qur'an Really Teaches about Jesus, by James Walker Watchman Fellowship's 4-page Profile on Islam by James Walker: www.watchman.org/Muslim Watchman Fellowship 4-page Profile on Shi'a Islam by Dr. Mike Edens: www.watchman.org/Shia Watchman Fellowship 4-page Profile on Ahmadiyya Islam by Eric Pement: www.watchman.org/Ahmadiyya Watchman Fellowship 4-page Profile on The Bahai Faith by Robert Pardon: www.watchman.org/Bahai Watchman Fellowship's complete Profile Notebook demo video: www.watchman.org/Demo Additional ResourcesFREE: We are also offering a subscription to our 4-page bimonthly Profiles here: www.watchman.org/Free.PROFILE NOTEBOOK: Order the complete collection of Watchman Fellowship Profiles (around 700 pages -- from Astrology to Zen Buddhism) in either printed or PDF formats here: www.watchman.org/notebook. The Trinity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit is perhaps one of the most difficult and challenging doctrines of the Christian faith. Perhaps it is nowhere more challenging to explain than in dialogue with Muslims, who believe that Christianity is blasphemously polytheistic, teaching that there are literally three distinct Gods. Our guest this week and next on the Profile, Dr. Sherene Khouri assistant professor of Arabic at Liberty University of Virginia joins to discuss her new book, Triune Rationality - A Trinitarian Response to Islamic Monotheism. Dr. Khouri provides a comprehensive historical look back to three lesser-known Christian apologists who lived during the time of the Golden Age of Islam and wrote apologetic defenses of the Trinity in Arabic to their Islamic contemporaries. Dr. Khouri's insights and research are immensely helpful for anyone in dialogue with Muslims today.Sherene Nicholas Khouri (PhD, Liberty University) is assistant professor of Arabic at Liberty University and also teaches courses on theology, apologetics, Arabic Christianity, and Islam in the John W. In this episode I talk with Mitchel Shirk, the host of the Pennsylvania Woodsman podcast. Mitchell and I discuss "working the kinks out" in early season and diving back into your deer hunting routine. We talk about some of the silly mistakes that we'll make early into the fall before we get "dialed back in". We discuss some early season food sources that we like to hunt from acorns to ag fields and food plots. We also discuss our personal experiences regarding deer's acorn species preference. Mitchell talks about his experience with deer feeding on ag food sources and the correlation between time of year and drought vs wet conditions and the impact that it has on their feeding patterns. We share some of our goals and ambitions for the upcoming season as well. Overall a really fun conversation with Mitchell. Thanks for listening!! Learn more about your ad choices.
