The South Carolina Supreme Court hears Alex Murdaugh's appeal February 11, 2026. The ground has shifted — because the woman who oversaw his jury just admitted to lying under oath about her conduct during the trial.Becky Hill, former Colleton County Clerk of Court, pleaded guilty in December 2025 to obstruction of justice, perjury, and two counts of misconduct. The perjury conviction stems from false testimony at a January 2024 hearing before retired Chief Justice Jean Toal. Toal was evaluating whether Hill tampered with Murdaugh's jury. She asked Hill directly if she let media view sealed exhibits. Hill said no. According to prosecutors, that was a lie.Murdaugh's defense successfully petitioned the Supreme Court to add Hill's conviction to the appellate record. The justices will now evaluate jury tampering claims knowing the court official at the center is a convicted perjurer.The state's response called Hill's conduct "foolish and fleeting" and insisted Murdaugh was "obviously guilty." That was filed before Hill's guilty plea. The state's position depends on trusting a woman who has proven she cannot be trusted.Defense attorneys Dick Harpootlian and Jim Griffin argue Hill's conduct is structural error — that jury tampering by a state actor is presumptively prejudicial under federal precedent. They also challenge the week of financial crimes testimony they say turned the murder trial into character assassination.The court can affirm, reverse for a new trial, or remand. The ruling comes later, in writing. Between tired choreography and some out of date references, its hard to imagine any of the dances making a strong impression compared to the more intense LA dancers in attendance. Worst of all is the bizarre choice to paint JoJo and Mackenzie in black and white for their I Love Lucy homage, managing to make the two look more like corpses than Lucy and Ethel. To add insult to injury their music shuts off mid-performance... so is that just an intentional sabotage at this point? How did it keep happening!?But while the girls are struggling to make some noise on stage, the moms certainly are making noise behind the scenes. Wise people distinguish truth from falsehood in their hearts, rejecting self-serving justifications driven by negative traits (arrogance, laziness, anger, love/hate).The chapter warns that falsehood distances one from Hashem (who is truth: "Hashem Elokeinu Emet") and harms others (e.g., false testimony, slander causing pain or discord). Even when no personal gain exists, lying reflects "crookedness of heart." As the Gospel recounts, some of Jesus' own relatives believed He was “out of his mind,” while the scribes accused Him of acting by the power of evil. Yet Jesus' works—healing the sick, casting out demons, forgiving sins—force a decision that cannot be avoided.Father Jason draws on the classic trilemma, popularized by C.S. Lewis: Jesus can only be one of three things—lunatic, liar, or Lord. A mere “good moral teacher” is not an option. As Lewis argued, a man who claimed divine authority and spoke as Jesus did could not simply be misunderstood or exaggerated. Either His claims were false, making Him gravely deceptive or delusional, or they were true, demanding our faith and obedience. Scripture itself bears witness to this truth: “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us” (Jn 1:1, 14; NABRE).The Church has always proclaimed this same confession of faith. Saint Peter declared, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God” (Mt 16:16; NABRE), not by human reasoning alone, but by revelation from the Father. Father Jason reminds us that the fruit of Christ's life and teachings confirms this identity. Lies do not produce saints. Deception does not transform the world through sacrificial love, truth, and mercy across centuries.Because Jesus is Lord, He does more than teach—He gives Himself. In the Eucharist, entrusted to the Apostles and handed down through the priesthood, Christ remains truly present to nourish His people and draw them into divine life. Rob and Michele Reiner spent nearly two decades trying to save their son Nick from addiction. They sent him to rehab seventeen times. They let him live in their guesthouse. They made a movie together about his struggles. And when counselors warned them that Nick was lying and manipulating them, they eventually rejected that advice — publicly apologizing for ever believing the professionals over their own son. Rob and Michele Reiner spent nearly two decades trying to save their son Nick from addiction. They sent him to rehab seventeen times. They let him live in their guesthouse. They made a movie together about his struggles. And when counselors warned them that Nick was lying and manipulating them, they eventually rejected that advice — publicly apologizing for ever believing the professionals over their own son. Now Rob and Michele are dead, allegedly stabbed by Nick in their Brentwood home the night after a Christmas party where they'd asked the host if they could bring him just to keep an eye on him. This isn't a story about demonizing people in addiction.
