Good news... it's my birthday!! Bad news... I literally NEVER work on my birthday… It's one of my rules... And as much as I love The Membership Guys podcast… I can't break this rule. So I'm taking the day off…. And that can mean only one thing... CALLIE IS TAKING OVER! (And I get to eat cake) Join the other (some would say better) half of The Membership Guys for a very special episode, as Callie shares her top takeaways from season 4 of her podcast, Behind the Membership, and reveals the release date for season 5. Listen to hear about: The changes membership owners have made to better serve their audiences during the global pandemic. Caryn Liles explains how Covid 19 resulted in her transitioning her well established brick and mortar dog training business to an online membership model, which is now allowing her to provide more in-depth support than before. Katie Wardrobe talks about how she reduced the price of her membership and offered more free content to help teachers adapt to working online, which has increased the growth of her business. How Carole Copeland Thomas's membership has become more important than ever due to the growing racial tensions across the U.S. Why a one size fits all approach doesn't work when it comes to memberships. Pamela Mitchell explains how she created a model to suit her needs and Felicia Lo shares the benefits and challenges of running an online membership alongside a well established international yarn business. Steve Pavlina also talks about how he offers a high ticket annual membership that only launches for five days a year. How season 4 reinforced the message that memberships give owners the freedom and flexibility to live life on their own terms. Whether it's accommodating health issues like in the case of Marisha Mets, building a location independent business enabling family travel like in the case of Trish Blackwell... Or using your membership to reach big goals and eventually give back to underprivileged communities like John Michaloudis. How running memberships can lead to positive change. Warwick Brown explains how leaving his corporate role and launching his membership has led to a happier, more energized life and Warren Mcpherson shares how he reduced his income streams and took ownership of his time so he can spend more of it with his young family. Warren McPherson from Piano Lesson with Warren (https://pianolessonwithwarren.com/) joins Callie for episode 1 of Behind the Membership Season 4. Warren’s membership focuses entirely on teaching people how to play gospel piano, and he transitioned to a membership model after first selling low-cost courses. As you’ll hear though, the initial transition wasn’t smooth, with Warren quickly realising a successful membership isn’t just about putting everything behind a paywall. In this episode you’ll hear how Warren made that course to membership transition and how he is working to combat the challenge of retention, including how making one particular change cut his churn rate by an impressive 8%. We're also talking about why he wishes he'd grown his team earlier and how he has played the long game when it comes to audience growth, allowing him to now attract 50-100 new members a month just through content marketing. And even though Warren’s membership is still just a couple of years old it has allowed him to work less and his wife to leave her job so that they can both spend more time with their young son. They’re even moving to a new state, something that didn't seem like a simple idea for them before the membership. Hit play above to hear about all this and more!
It's a way of learning, it's a way of living, it's a way of drowning. Tonight, Warren would like to thank Gigi, the lady down the street who allowed him and all the other neighborhood kids to swim in her backyard pool. Marco....Polo! When you wake up to who you are and what really matters to you, it can send you down some avenues you never expected to travel. Warren's story, "Falling for MacGuffin", is about faith and how he found it after years of resisting. Lynne Duddy and Lawrence Howard talk with Warren McPherson about his story, his beliefs and how how he has found faith in some very unexpected places. MAY THE NARRATIVE BE WITH YOU!
After years of resisting, Warren found Faith for the first time and it was in an admittedly unconventional entity. His beliefs might seem alien to you, but at least he believes in something, right? How hard is it to NOT have sex? Turns out, not that hard. Warren wants everyone to know that he has, in fact, had sex... more than once. He's not keeping a running total or anything. If he were though...his best guess would be 467 times. Warren has told with Portland Story Theater on several occasions in the past. He doesn't know the exact number of times.... but lots. At no point in Warren's story will you hear the words "flag" or "military" or "veterans". You won't hear them because they have absolutely nothing to do with this narrative. So, please relax – and listen to the words he is actually saying. Warren is the founder of Sweetlime Productions, a small, boutique production company that makes movies and produces podcasts and local radios shows. Warren McPherson “Self-Love in an Elevator” This is not a story about masturbating in a lift. This is a tale about owning up to who you are; whether it be bad, or good. Warren really wants you to know he loves telling stories, even if he comes off looking like a fool in the end. Actually, he especially likes telling those ones. But, he is working on that. Warren is an integral part of Portland Story Theater and we’re happy to have him back on stage telling another story. There is no fate but what we make for ourselves. That might be all well and good, but what if we make for ourselves a real shit show? Warren tells a tale about his fate and what he made for himself. Like a bug to the bug-zapper, oft-times things find their demise in the object they are most attracted to. Warren is currently being destroyed by the very thing he loves more than anything else in this world. It is all very straightforwardly confusing. He wants to suck the marrow out of life but also cannot wait until he has time to do…just nothing. Fatherhood is madness, but it is welcome. From the beginning, Warren understood and accepted the fact all things must die. Mortality was a part of life, he always said. But, then he went and got himself a good life. And now, his position on death has evolved. His new philosophy has many ins and outs that he will probably not touch on here tonight, but the ten-peso version is: Warren doesn't want to die!!! As if it isn't bad enough the Fates know all the big stuff in our lives, now they are showing how much small stuff they know too. Destiny brushes up on the trivia! (and, really, isn't it about time she did?) Warren McPherson used to be a struggling writer, but evidently the natural order of the cosmos really wanted him to be something else. His story is about how having a mind for trivial facts landed him a career...a lifelong career. Urban Tellers is a live storytelling series in Portland, OR. Filmed live at Hipbone Studio.
