Send us a textWe've had several WASP episodes about organ transplant recipients who have gone on to accomplish impressive feats, but here's one from the other side. Dan Armstead had plans to be a kidney donor from the time he learned in a high school class that you actually only need one to function perfectly normally. He eventually got tested and officially listed on the donor registry and then it barely took 48 hours before he got linked to someone who was in end stage renal disease who desperately needed a kidney, and it turned out it was his kidney that perfectly matched. But I'm not going to spoil it for you how that match took place because it's a remarkable, heartwarming story. What is important to tell you right now is how admirably selfless Dan's act was, and how he wants to spread the word about how easy it is to get tested to be a potential donor, and how little ongoing impact it has had physically on him. Most importantly, there are thousands on the kidney transplant waitlist who sometimes remain there for years – and sadly many don't make it at all. Dan, who runs a Synergy HomeCare provider, however, was able to save a life with his incredibly generous donation. The movie created a website, released two hour security cam footage, along with traditional tactics like an awesome poster and excellent trailer. The end result? It exceeded box office expectations.Where does Zach Cregger stand among current horror directors? There is a very strong argument that he is the best at mixing horror and humor. And this includes the Winters and Osgood Perkins. Along with being satisfying, the ending of Weapons is one of the funniest of the year.The major twist comes well before the final moments. How much people enjoy the twist will also determine how much they like the film. More so than any other movie in recent memory. It will be the point of return for everyone who watches it. For some, Weapons will not be able to do any wrong; for others it will be a complete turnoff.Non-linear storytelling is very tricky to pull off. Not only can it disorient the audience, but it can open things up to plot holes. We talk about one possible issue with Weapons and another nitpick. We also debate how effectively Weapons told its story.Whatever a person's final opinion on Weapons, there is no denying the amazing performances. There has been a shift the past few years, but horror tends to get ignored around awards season. It may not end up getting nominated for anything, but it would be surprising if some names from Cregger's release are not thrown around. Here's what she writes: "Hi, Betsy! I am a huge fan and avid listener! As a teacher who is nearing retirement, I found myself in a slump. You've been an inspiration! I have completely changed my curriculum for next year (we are mid-process in curriculum writing). For the first time, all of my classes are completely novel-based using lit circles. I have selected five titles for students to choose from each quarter, with plans to supplement like crazy with nonfiction pieces, TED talks, podcasts, etc. I have created an overarching essential question for each semester to tie all the pieces together. Few actors kick off their careers with productions as big as the opportunities Hermione Corfield secured early on. One of her first feature film credits is Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation in which she shares a key scene with Tom Cruise, and soon after came xXx: Return of Xander Cage, and Star Wars: Episode VIII - The Last Jedi. Ever since our TIFF 2019 chat for that film, Corfield's been a prime target for Collider Ladies Night and now, with the debut of the Outlander prequel series, Outlander: Blood of My Blood, the time has finally come.The new Starz show puts the spotlight on Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan) and Claire Beauchamp's (Caitríona Balfe) parents. For Jamie, it's Jamie Roy's Brian Fraser and Harriet Slater's Ellen MacKenzie, and Claire's parents, Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston, are played by Jeremy Irvine and Corfield.
