This episode was recorded at Planet Comicon in Kansas City, MO. I did a brief interview with comic book creator and author Onrie Kompan. He has created and written the "Yi Soon Shin" series. The Yi Soon Shin comics are amazing! He also owns a production company called "Onrie Kompan Productions, LLC". Check out his website www.yisoonshin.com and his Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pg/Yi-Soon-Shin-Comic-Book-139636395551/about/.
Onrie Kompan has defied the rules of the comic industry to be very successful on his own terms. Without the help of a publisher or mainstream comic distribution he is a one man army. Currently he has a documentary being made about his remarkable achievement of selling over 1500 comics at NYCC. Not bad for an American writing a historical comic about a Korean sea battle. His work is featured in Korean museums, he has been invited to do many speaking engagements and has been a consultant on a movie about the life of Yi Soon Shin. This is an uplifting episode about the power of believing in comics and the lessons of how to be a good neighbor at conventions and raise everyone up with you. Gene Ha is one of the most thorough, detailed and good natured artists working in comics today. Known for his DC work such as "The Shade" and "Project: Superman" as well as Alan Moore's "Top Ten", it's time for him to step into his own creator owned fantasy. Which is exactly what he's doing with "Mae", a young adult, female driven story about friendship and sisterhood and strange creatures with Czech names. He and Wendi talk about this new project, how to run a successful kickstarter and the appeal of smart brunettes! Onrie Kompan joins Patrick this episode to tell all about the unbeatable warrior, Yi Soon Shin, to talk about digital devices, the Amazing Spider-Man and how an electronic community will never replace a physical, brick and mortar one. At least we HOPE so... Also, as an added bonus, there's background noise (at the beginning)! Yes! The sounds of a busy comic store on a Wednesday. You're welcome!
