Dracula's Brunch Club is coming to booksellers and hopefully local comics shops this month, so writer/co-creator Brian Gonsar joins Wayne to discuss this highly anticipated middle-aged reader graphic novel, Brian's very first, this week in Episode #704. Brian is an award-winning producer of feature films, music videos, art installations, and even a Super Bowl commercial! He's also a self-proclaimed donut aficionado who has travel the world to find the best donut. Dracula's Brunch Club is described this way: “Have you ever wondered how vampires got their taste for blood? In Dracula's Brunch Club, it all started with a crimson-red donut, dripping and oozing with spooky secrets—I mean, jelly. Dripping and oozing with non-spooky-tasting JELLY. Get ready to sink your fangs into the hilarious new graphic novel from debut author Brian Gonsar.” We discuss how Brian embarked on his comics career as well as how he found his artist/co-creator Keenan Gaybba, who the various characters are, and what we can expect from Brian in the months ahead! It's special episode #700 this week, and to celebrate, Wayne talks with Dan Goldman, creator of Red Light Properties: Unfinished Business, which you can get now here at his website! Dan is a professional creator/writer/artist working in prose, comics, and video games. The first season of Red Light Properties: Unfinished Business is available in several formats, including four hardcover and a digital edition. Here's how this series is described: “Red Light Properties presents the continuing adventures of a Miami-based real estate agency ambitious--and creative--enough to find a unique solution to the downturned housing market: they specialize in exorcising and flipping ‘previously-haunted' homes. The husband-and-wife led agency unearths properties that are unsellable because they're haunted. The ghosts find closure. The seller unloads their property. The RLP Agency receives a fee. Everyone wins... except maybe for the Tobins, who are barely on speaking terms. You see, it's not an easy business, flipping haunted houses.” We delve into the various characters in the series as well as how it came to be and how you can access it. A goodbye, some other news, an Ibte question, and talk about 2 weeks worth of new comics.
This week in Episode #695, I talk with Ethan Sacks, accomplished creator of comics including Star Wars, Old Man Hawkeye, and Midnight Suns, and his daughter and co-writer, Naomi Sacks, who are telling an allegory of a deeply personal time in their lives called A Haunted Girl. They have a Zoop.gg crowdfunding event going on until about Thursday, June 12. This book was originally published by Image Comics and Syzygy Publishing, and this hardcover edition contains all-new behind the scenes features and is the ultimate collector's item for fans of this acclaimed supernatural horror story. The book is described this way: “The fate of all life on Earth depends on a girl who doesn't know if she wants to live. Cleo, a 16-year-old adopted Japanese-American whose anxiety and depression drives her to suicidal thoughts, is fresh out of the hospital and trying unsuccessfully to reintegrate back into her old life.” This campaign went live on the Zoop crowdfunding platform, Tuesday, May 6th. This date was chosen specifically to coincide with World Mental Health Awareness month, due to the book's subject matter. We explore how the series came to be, who the various characters are, and also talk about how these creatives worked together and what else they might have coming our way soon.
