A group of parents in the U.S. state of Texas have launched a lawsuit to stop the state government from forcing all public school classrooms to display the Ten Commandments — a list of moral orders central to some religions. The Texas families are mostly themselves Christian, but they argue the move is violating their civil rights under the US Constitution, among other concerns. This week, we're joined by friend of the show and returning champion Eleanor Janega, as well as her 'We're Not So Different' podcast co-host Luke Waters, to talk about Hildegard of Bingen, a 12th century Benedictine Abbess. Known for her religious visions, and the writing, sermons and music that emerged from them, Hildegard is often considered a polymath, and as one of the founders of german scientific natural history. We talk about Hildegard's place in high medieval society, the breadth of her writing - from religious commentary to linguistics and natural science - and of course, whether she had the spirit of a Poster. ----- PALESTINE AID LINKS You can donate to Medical Aid for Palestinians and other charities using the links below. This week, Cassidy and Josh kick things off with a candid (and hilarious) chat about PMS, moods, and navigating the ups and downs of everyday life. Then they’re joined by two bold romantics who took dating into their own hands—by plastering posters around Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs in a creative attempt to find love… for their friend. We dive into what inspired this unexpected matchmaking move, the reactions it sparked, and how it fits into today’s ever-changing dating scene. From apps to old-school efforts, we explore the current trends, patterns, and lengths people go to make a real connection. Marnie thought something was missing in her love life... so she got creative. What do you do when something very dear to you has gone missing? You put up lost posters, of course! That's exactly what Marnie did when she lamented the lack of romance in her life. But what started off as a quirky way to 'beat the boring' in the pre-Tinder dating world quickly went viral. So did Marnie actually date the people she met through her posters? Did she find the love of her life?Marnie Clarke (@msmarnieclarke) is a Brisbane-based singer-songwriter, writer, and creative who still has access to that email address she used on the posters, just saying. Escher. These days, when you see a show at the Fillmore Auditorium in San Francisco, you might be lucky enough to get your very own poster for free. They're a highly anticipated parting gift given out at the biggest shows. “The posters are artifacts, pieces of time,” says this week's question asker ,Ben Kaiser. “They're as much [a part] of the concert as the concert.” That got him wondering: the posters of the Fillmore are so legendary, who is the person behind them? From 1985 to 2019, the answer was Arlene Owseichik. In this episode, we meet the woman behind the posters, and learn about the creative process that went into the creation of each one.
