Dan Sindel is truly a “unique” and “one of a kind” artist like no other out there in music land. Dan's songwriting features a multi-layered approach to recording guitars and vocals that integrates myriads of styles and genres into a hard rocking experience streamlined for mass appeal. Unpopular Music for Popular People Vol.1 is Dan's debut (5 song) EP and features the radio friendly tracks; STEPPING STONE, RULE THE WORLD and ALL DUE REPSECT as well as two “6 minute deep cut” tracks; EDGE OF ETERNITY and SAY GOODBYE which would satisfy anyone with a love for classic rock /progressive hard rock/heavy metal with their technical rhythmic changes, orchestrated guitars and solid vocal production. The Los Angeles based singer/songwriter/guitarist takes his musical upbringing of 60's and 70's pop songs and classic rock, 80's-90's metal and all things current and mixes up slightly atypical artists (think: Alice in Chains meet The Byrds or perhaps the aggression of Metallica infused with Blue Oyster Cult, The BEATLES or ELO) to create those unique melodies and harmonies. Dan says, “To me, the best parts of a song are the hooks and melodies, whether vocal or instrumental they have to catch the listener's ear and be extraordinarily memorable.”As a survivor of the legendary 80's LA Heavy Metal scene, Dan has shared the stage with some of the biggest names in the rock and metal music world (ACCEPT, SAXON, KING DIAMOND, RACER X, WENDY O. WILLIAMS, ARMORED SAINT, METAL CHURCH, FLOTSAM & JETSAM, GRIM REAPER, HED-PE, MUSHROOMHEAD and HELMET being but a few) but he'd rather not be looked at as “just a metal guy” as he refuses to be typecast and limited by musical genre.“Dan states: “It is the responsibility of a true artist to find his own voice and represent the thoughts and feelings that one has and to share it in a way that hopefully does not simply mirror someone else's work, to capture the spirit and intent of the artists vision is the essence of art itself.”Unpopular Music for Popular People Vol.1 is absolute proof that bringing influences from several different musical genres can co-exist in one finely tuned package and is available on all popular streaming platforms as well as his accompaniment videos on Youtube.APPLE MUSIC: https://music.apple.com/us/artist/dan-sindel/261257155SPOTIFY: https://open.spotify.com/artist/12JOM4gAm4nuaXD8GXLW3xAMAZON: https://www.amazon.com/music/player/artists/B0019DMEM4/dan-sindelYOUTUBE: https://www.youtube.com/@halipinoWWW: http://dansindel.comBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/arroe-collins-unplugged-totally-uncut--994165/support.
Hey now, music lovers. Welcome to Why Music Matters, a podcast where we examine the power and influence that music can wield in our lives. I'm your host, Jeff Miers. Today, my guest is the legendary guitarist, performer and band-leader Jamie Holka. As a musician whose name is mentioned in hushed, reverential tones by his peers, Jamie has earned a reputation as a virtuosic guitarist and a fearless improvisor, whether he's playing blazing electric blues, fiery progressive rock, or effortlessly hip finger style jazz. The Niagara Falls native is well-loved across the Western New York region, but he's also caught the attention of many of the finest musicians he grew up revering. That's how he ended up as an influential member of the rekindled 1970s progressive rock/jazz fusion ensemble Captain Beyond, with whom Jamie performed between 2017 and 2020. And that's also how he befriended the brilliant rock drummer Bobby Rondinelli, a veteran of Ritchie Blackmore's Rainbow and Blue Oyster Cult, among many others. Jamie and Rondinelli teamed to create The Gathering, a new album of guitar-centered instrumentals that features heavy input from legendary guests like Deep Purple keyboardist Don Airey, and iconic bassists Billy Sheehan and Kenny Aaronson. Jamie, Rondinelli, Aaronson and friends will celebrate the release of The Gathering with a show at The Cave, 71 Military Rd in Buffalo, on Friday, June 6, at 7 pm. During our chat, I asked Jamie about the genesis of his love for the guitar, how it feels to be making music with his childhood idols, and what it means to be an eternal student of music. This week, we conclude Jarvis's two-part interview with Russ Tippins and Cindy Maynard of Brooklyn-based classic hard rock revelations Tanith. The conversation continues to flow easily, with topics ranging from England versus U.S. scene differences and similarities, the recording of the "Citadel" single as the first time the four members of Tanith played together, the affinity of underground metalheads for classic rock stylings, the challenges of starting a band and following your passion, the pros and cons of tour bus life versus van life, and the ongoing writing sessions for Tanith's third album. It's an enlightening and entertaining chat that covers a lot of ground effortlessly. Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! Follow us on Instagram Like us on Facebook

This week, we bring you the first installment of Jarvis' interview with Russ Tippins (guitars/vocals) and Cindy Maynard (bass/vocals) from Metal Blade recording artists Tanith. Both musicians discuss their formative years, including Cindy's travails trying to learn guitar as a lefty and Russ's experiences in England starting a band (Satan) with his schoolmates. They talk about the creative process and the tendency of "new" songs - especially those recorded after a band's first album - to evolve and morph after they are performed live many times. You will also hear how Russ and Cindy decided to form Tanith after playing cover songs and realizing how well their voices fit together. The interview covers a lot of ground, with fascinating stories and an abundance of laughter. Listen at nightdemon.net/podcast or anywhere you listen to podcasts! Russell St. George, retired welder, plays with fire Any band would relish having a cheerleader like Shirley Maloney. At a recent show by Last Minute Soulmates at the Towne Crier in Beacon, she acted out the words, exhorted the crowd to sing along and pounded on tables during the final song, a funky cover of "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)." A good portion of the rowdy crowd almost reached Maloney's level of enthusiasm. House staff created an impromptu dance floor by clearing tables near the stage as people swung their partners with elbows locked together during "Maggie's Farm" and danced in circles during a heavy version of "Hound Dog." At one point, two men started screaming, ostensibly out of joy. The group's founder, Russell St. George, moved to town in 1986 and is a dean of Beacon's music scene. He focuses on original songs but likes to mix in atypical versions of covers, including "Your Cheating Heart" as a deliberate shuffle. "I'm not good enough to play them like the record, but I do like to shake things up with the arrangement or approach," he says. "And I still write, including songs about what's going on, like one about gun violence called 'When's it Gonna Stop?' " His originals, some of which feature a reggae tinge, keep things simple and rely on hooky choruses that get people singing. At one point, almost the entire audience, including the waitstaff, belted out the words. Working as a welder in Peekskill, a job he held for 37 years, St. George heard that houses in Beacon could be had on the cheap. His first local band, Daarc Ages (an acronym of members' first names), released a couple of CDs and opened for Dee Snider, Uriah Heap and Blue Oyster Cult at The Chance in Poughkeepsie and other venues. "We'd make a CD and someone would quit, so we had to keep finding musicians and never really got off the ground," he says. "Besides, I was kind of shy." That's odd because he sports flowing hair, a goatee and moustache. His fashion sense includes hats, big round glasses and black, accented with scarves, a look that leans more toward the hippie camp than the blue-collar world. Over the years, he played every local venue and hosted a 17-year monthly jam at Joe's Irish Pub (now MoMo Valley) that he called St. George and Friends. "The whole time, I never missed a date," he says. "But I turned 60, COVID hit and the end arrived." Last Minute Soulmates started as an acoustic duo that grew into an electric project by 2011. Self-effacing, he credits band members for any success. Not shy about his left-leaning political views, he lost some followers over the years. He feels no compulsion to record his new tunes, in part because working in the studio is a drag compared to playing for a responsive audience. "Streams and other delivery systems don't get a lot of traction," he says. "If people want to hear my songs in their best light, come see me live." Last Minute Soulmates, with St. George (vocals, guitar), Carla Springer (vocals), Rik Mercaldi (guitar), Harry Lawrence (bass) and Mitch Florian (drums), will perform at 9 p.m. on May 23 at Gleason's, 23 S. Division St., in Peekskill.

A (relatively) in-depth analysis of the rock classic (Don't Fear) The Reaper by Blue Öyster Cult (as well as some other stuff) in just under thirty minutes. The song, written and sung by lead guitarist Donald 'Buck Dharma' Roeser is taken from the 1976 album Agents of Fortune and explores the theme of eternal love and the inevitability of death. The band name Blue Öyster Cult features an umlaut. The 'metal umlaut' (also known as röck döts) has also been used in the names of several rock or heavy metal bands such as Queensrÿche, Motörhead, the Accüsed, Mötley Crüe, Spın̈al Tap and Green Jellÿ.The song has been featured extensively in film, TV and media: Stephen King named the song as one of the inspirations for his novel The Stand (the lyrics are quoted at the beginning of the novel). The song also appears as the opening theme for the 1994 TV serial based on the novel. The song can be heard playing in a car in the 1978 film Halloween and was used again in the 2022 sequel Halloween Ends, during the ending credits. It can be heard playing on a van radio during the 2022 horror film X and is played during the end credits of The Simpsons episode 'The Parent Rap'. The song has been featured in two series on Netflix: '1899' and 'Orange Is the New Black' and was even the subject of a Saturday Night Live comedy sketch in 2000.In this episode I am in discussion with Dr. Andrew Webber.Mathew Woodallhttps://buymeacoffee.com/lownoiseWhy buy me a coffee?Low Noise is proudly ad-free. A show spotlighting songs with more cowbell! Artists include Blue Oyster Cult, The Chambers Brothers, The Rolling Stones, War, The Beatles, The Bee Gees, Nazareth, ELO, Fleetwood Mac, Van Halen and more!
When I was...a young boy...my father...influenced a lot of the music I listened to. I grew up on Kiss, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Pink Floyd, Kansas, the classic rock/prog rock spectrum. Sitting atop the pinnacle of mount prog was Rush, a Canadian power trio who pushed the limits of 70's rock radio and how long a song could be while still getting radio play. With one of the greatest rock drummers on the face of the planet, one of the greatest rock bassists on the face of the planet, and a guitarist who deserves way more recognition but is overshadowed by the rarity of the other two outstanding members, they carved a path to being not just a Canadian cultural staple, but a worldwide name. Join these two intrepid dorks on their journey through one of their shared favorite albums full of sick riffs, wicked drum fills, and that classic Neil Peart storytelling we talk about all the time on this show with 1981's Moving Pictures. Big thanks and big love to Jeremy for joining, always love to have the homie on the show. Check out Grit City Punk, Underground Table, and Grey Note Records!

This is an Encore Presentation of my 2021 interview with Joe Bouchard, a founding member of Blue Oyster Cult, the band that had a huge hit with “(Don't Fear) The Reaper”. That song later became an even bigger hit - and propelled a renaissance for Blue Oyster Cult - after it was featured in the iconic ‘More Cowbell' skit on Saturday Night Live in 2000 featuring Will Ferrell and Christopher Walken. My featured song is “New York City Groove” from Made In New York by my band Project Grand Slam. Send us a textWhat makes a band truly legendary, and which Canadian artists fit that bill? Join us on a nostalgic trip as we ponder these questions and more, starting with a shout-out to our favorite northern bands. Get a behind-the-scenes look at my experience producing an album for Alison Piccioni, now known as Rocky Rose, who's currently electrifying audiences on tour with the iconic Cyndi Lauper. We celebrate Lauper's nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and reflect on the timeless impact of her classic hit "Time After Time." Together with my co-host Tiffany Mason, we fondly recall how the music of Bad Company and others once filled the air at local skating rinks, igniting our love for rock and roll. Our musical journey continues with a look at the often-blurred boundaries between genres and what truly qualifies an artist for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. We examine bands like Blue Oyster Cult, Oasis, and Soundgarden, sharing personal stories like how Soundgarden's music became a soothing companion during a bumpy flight. While the cancellation of the CMT Awards brings a bit of disappointment, there's joy in discussing new music, including Trey Calloway's heartfelt "Your Love Is Safe With Me," which we predict will become a beloved wedding anthem. Plus, we give a nod to Shibuzy's chart success and Reba McIntyre's sweet gesture welcoming Kelsey Ballerini to The Voice. From the art of music engineering and remembering late greats like Mike Shipley to celebrating the victories of youth cheerleading teams, our conversation covers it all. Dive into stories of Canadian musical talent, like Bryan Adams and Loverboy, and their journey to breaking into the U.S. market. We wrap up with the lighthearted chaos of Orlando traffic, a Super Bowl lip-sync debate, and the relatable highs and lows of family outings and unexpected revelations at Texas Roadhouse. Whether it's about music, memories, or navigating life's unexpected turns, this episode is packed with vibrant stories and heartfelt insights.LinksJay Franze: https://JayFranze.comVirtually You: https://www.virtuallyyouva.com/ Support the show

Heavy metal rock legend, Carl Canedy, and writer Phillip “Doc” Harrington, recently published Carl's autobiography, Tales of a Wild Dog, Memoirs of a Rock Warrior. Since the age of 5, after observing a striking red drum set at a wedding reception, Carl was determined to play the drums. He received his first drum set in his early teens, immediately immersed himself in practice, and eventually developed his now-famous signature style. He also taught himself how to play guitar and piano, which would later come in handy in his role as a songwriter. After spending his formative years touring with the band Kelakos, in 1979, Carl joined forces with David “Rock” Feinstein to start the legendary Upstate, NY power trio, The Rods. The band quickly became a sensation in the northeast, landing a major recording contract with Arista Records. The Rods toured and played shows with the likes of no less than: Judas Priest, Ozzy, Motörhead, Metallica, Richie Blackmore, Blue Oyster Cult, and many others. In the late 1980's, Carl produced of some of heavy metal's most iconic bands, including: Anthrax, Overkill, Exciter, Possessed, Helstar and many others. He also coached, developed, and mentored bands such as Roxx Gang and Young Turk. The Rods had a resurgence in 2010 with their comeback album; Vengeance., which was followed by Brotherhood of Metal and the highly acclaimed Rattle the Cage. The Rods continue to tour and are currently putting the final touches on their 11th studio album. Carl has also released 2 albums under the moniker of Canedy.Doc is a devoted culinarian and a dedicated heavy metal fan. A graduate of the esteemed Culinary Institute of America, he has spent the past 2 decades writing and arranging technical manuals for the baking industry. Doc views the 80's heavy metal scene as monumentally historic and highly impactful. He seeks to chronicle as much of its stories, triumphs, and challenges as time permits. A massive Rods fan, Doc encouraged Carl to write his memoirs.I've read Tales of a Wild Dog and can tell you it's an intense, personal look at working within the gritty, full force world of Heavy Metal. If you're a fan of the genre and want to know more about its origins and the people in it, be sure to check out Tales of a Wild Dog. www.canedyband.com

There's an in-depth analysis of how it's essential to be in an offensive state of mind when commanding your place in the flow (and why bubbling yourself off from those selfsame traffic physics makes you the problem we've been waiting for). There's also a few thoughts about how "Broken Windows Policing" could do wonders for incompetent motoring. Don't fret: how about some Amon Tobin, Die Krupps, Deep Purple and Blue Oyster Cult (no "White Room" or "Yellow Submarine", however), plus killer Bronco audio, Mom's Camry, cars in garages and TVs in dashboards.

It's a vaguely-haunted episode about classic rock epics from 1976! Which is the better dark and spooky song with triple-backed guitars, Eagles' "Hotel California" or Blue Oyster Cult's "Don't Fear the Reaper"?See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
