Send us a textThank you for tuning in! On today's show, we are taking a look back at some questionable toys, primarily from the 1980s and 1990s, with a special addition from the 1950s. All of them have one bizarre characteristic in common - they all wet themselves. I was equal parts fascinated and horrified to learn and re-learn about some of these toys, including, but not limited to, Betsy Wetsey, Puppy Surprise, and more! Here are a few websites that I referenced in today's show:Weirdo Toys/Gross Out Gang, more info here.Word hippo synonyms, check it out here.LA Times article about ‘My Bundle Baby' can be found here. I also forgot to mention this in the show, but back in the early days of the podcast, I did an episode on My Little Pony.Support the showVisit: https://www.popcultureretrospective.com/ for all things Pop Culture Retrospective! In the 1950s, caller Joy’s dad painted the ceiling of her bedroom navy blue, covered it in glowing stars, and gifted her a telescope! Thousands flock to Downey for the annual masa pilgrimage at the Amapola Market! Another listener recalls his favorite gift as a kid, a BB gun. However, he accidentally shot a bird and felt so bad, to this day he has never picked up a gun, BB or otherwise. Meanwhile Andy and Rahner talk traumatic haircuts from their past and being dumped by their barber! Andy plays listener talkbacks from people who recall their favorite Christmas gifts when they were kids. One caller said we mustn’t encourage greed, which Rahner refers to as toy shaming. Media was so much cooler back in the midcentury. In 1996, what was the hottest Christmas gift? Of course it was Tickle Me Elmo! Others that followed include Buzz Lightyear, Tamagotchi, Furbies, Beanie Babies and Bratz Dolls. And now we have the Labubu. Andy rounds out the show by chatting with a GI Joe collector.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
For the last episode of 2025, the dorks (except Dirk) spend an entire episode inadvertently discussing a lot of nostalgic stuff. It kicks off with GI Joe movies and Ghostbusters lore (with some Dave Coulier thrown in, for some reason?). Then we move into video games for the majority of the show, pitching ideas for applying a randomizer to old games, point & click adventure game Moon Logic, smashing franchises and generations of games together, inserting roguelikes, and other tangential nonsense as usual. Be sure to let us know what old video game franchise you'd wish they'd put into a collection. Thanks to everyone for being with us this year! Come join us in the future! Send us a textWe've all heard the euphemism about knowledge being power. But perhaps the more accurate assessment comes from my favorite childhood cartoon. Yes, I've referenced it before, but when GI Joe signed off each episode by letting us know that “Knowing is Half the Battle”, Duke and his crew were echoing the same sentiment as our guest for today's episode.Evan Dornbush is the CEO of Desired Effect. A former DoD-trained state hacker, he's now working with cyber researchers to help promote their findings and get the vulnerabilities they detect into the hands of the software, network or equipment suppliers before hackers can leverage these findings, and wreak havoc on industrial control systems and production workflows. Listen as we discuss this strategy, as well:How to define roles and responsibilities in pushing Secure-by-Design initiatives forward. Why manufactures shouldn't look to out-tech the hacker.Strategies to help defenders from having to keep playing catch-up.How cybersecurity can be utilized as an operational tool. The ongoing challenges created by Zero Day vulnerabilities.Creating a culture that goes beyond just "spending for the cyber nerd."New ways to calculate ROI in advancing cybersecurity priorities. The cost benefits of investing in cyber talent. As a go-to podcast for our listeners, we want to help you align your brand with our expertise. Christmas in the '80s and '90s had a magic all its own—equal parts neon lights, tinsel overload, and the warm glow of TV specials you had to catch live, or you missed them for the whole season. It was the era of mall Santas, department-store catalogs thick enough to use as booster seats, and the unmistakable sound of wrapping paper tearing open to reveal toys that felt larger than life. From driving around to look at Christmas lights to recording holiday specials on VHS (complete with commercials), the season had a slower, cozier rhythm that today's streaming-and-overnight-shipping world can't quite replicate. In this episode, Dave, Rob, and their guest Ryan dive deep into what they loved—and what they genuinely miss—about Christmas back then. Each of them will share their Top 5 greatest Christmas gifts ever, along with the legendary ones they begged Santa for but never found under the tree. It's nostalgia, joy, heartbreak, and holiday hilarity rolled into one festive conversation—perfect for anyone who still remembers the thrill of Cabbage Patch Kids, GI Joe, Tickle Me Elmo and circling toys in the Sears Wish Book or Toys R Us ad before tearing into a Nintendo-shaped box on Christmas morning. There is some great, weird and just plain crazy news to talk through today. Have Hot Toys jumped the shark? Is Ben about to drop $1500 on a Soundwave? More Mondo, more Blokees and of course, More Todd. Franks TMNT collection lacks a life size element - could this change soon? Then we compare the newly released Origins Fright Zone with the vintage one - which in itself gives Scot the fright of his life! What happens when the legend of “Wookie”—the 6'3” Green Beret who outworks everyone, jumps out of planes for fun, and lives hard on and off the battlefield—collides with reality, loss, and a broken body?In this episode, Travis “Wookie” Wilson sits down with DJ to unpack a 21-year Army career, including 13 years in Special Forces, and the moments that nearly destroyed him—and then remade him.We walk through:-Growing up the son of an Air Force pararescueman and an Air Force nurse-Being immature, selfish, and ego-driven as a young soldier “playing GI Joe” around the world-The death of his infant son and the collapse of his first marriage—and how he didn't show up for her the way he now wishes he had-Choosing the enlisted Green Beret path and finding real brotherhood on an ODA-The firefight where a teammate was shot in the chest and Travis, an 18E—not a medic—slid in under fire and saved his life while doubting every move-The free-fall accident that broke his back, rattled his brain, and quietly pulled the pin on his identity-A divorce that left him staring down a shotgun, calling himself a “piece of shit” in the mirror, and wondering if it would be easier to end it-Wrestling with faith, ego, and Mr. Hyde—the guy who destroys everything while the hero part of you goes to war and plays guardian-How brain treatment, stem cells, and deliberate work on himself turned his stutter, tremor, anger, and shame into empathy, purpose, and a new mission-Why he believes some guys don't ask for help—they just “ride the lightning”—and what he's doing to stop thatToday, Travis is:-Founder of Alpha Elite Performance (health, fitness, performance)-Founder of Project Recon, a nonprofit focused on regenerative healing, stem cells, and brain health for SOF and first responders-A man who openly calls himself a “different guy” than the ego-driven Wookie his mom once overheard girls talking about in the standsThis is a conversation about maturity, loss, faith, and becoming a guardian instead of a wrecking ball—for your team, your family, and yourself.Connect with Travis WilsonProject Recon: https://projectrecon.orgAlpha Elite Performance: https://alphaeliteperformance.comInstagram – Travis: @traviswilsongreenberetInstagram – Project Recon: @projectreconConnect with DJ & the DTD PodcastWebsite (One Stop Shop): https://dtdpodcast.netYouTube: Dynamic Tales Delivered Podcast – The DTD PodcastInstagram: @thedtd_podcastFacebook: The DTD PodcastPresented by Nomadic ResearchBig thanks to Hoot and the team at Nomadic Research. G.I. Joe The Movie (1987) - Thanksflicking 2025
This Week on Toy Power Podcast; we welcome Canadian local: Colin Betts to our home town; as he celebrates his overseas Holiday trip! Kicking off the episode, we chat towards the Tron HasLab project - that obliviously is drowning. An exciting expansion to our Powers Of Grayskull - Masters Of The Universe Collection - with the addition of the Wolf Character: Red Shadow. Plus an incredible achievement from the crew of 'Yes Have Some' / 'Toy Anxiety' Podcast; as they reveal their much anticipated Kickstarter: Cryptoids - Mothman. The first of hopefully many figures in this unique Toyline. Then we hear directly from Colin about his travels thus far. A interesting comparison on the Retail front of what offerings one finds outside of their own Country too! Then, its a flurry of Gift-Giving! It feels like Christmas Day; with the amount of gifts shared around the table; and we are all incredibly thankful for the genorosity! Thankyou Colin!!Support the show: http://patreon.com/toypowerpodcastSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Aaron tells the story of the day he tried—truly tried—to run away at age five, fueled by righteous anger over a forbidden episode of GI Joe and a backpack full of peanut-butter crackers. What begins as a funny childhood rebellion slowly reveals a deeper truth about grief, confusion, and a kid trying to make sense of a family unraveling. This is a story about the moment you realize running away isn't the answer—and why coming home matters more than you knew.
