She has a new novel out, No One Will Miss Her, is a co-host of the Feminine Chaos podcast, and a contributor at various places, like UnHerd and Newsweek. We first talk about Andrew Cuomo (the former governor of New York), Al Franken, #metoo, and how the dynamics of fame, power and identity play into the media narrative around sexual harassment, as well as cancel culture more broadly. Kat believes the phenomenon is best understood by examining the waves of periodized reactionary movements which generate a push-pull of cultural signaling between the two extremes of the political spectrum. She believes that the ebb and flow will crest, but remains cognizant of the domination of the culture-warrior left in the emergent multi-billion-dollar diversity-and-inclusion industry that operates independently of the political institutions. I do wonder if the tactic may be self-limiting and end up backfiring, as the left may actually be more at risk from it than their conservative counterparts. The left relies on institutions like the press to secure its dominance, but as respect for those institutions collapses due to polarization, their sway will weaken. Kat and I both agree that the trend towards guilt by association is high-school-level drama, while the role of social media as a panopticon and litmus test of beliefs is a disturbing trend. We discuss how shifting ideological baselines means that maintaining a consistent stance on any given issue may end up pushing a person out of one coalition and into another. Kat explains her experience as an independent journalist watching a marked shift in reporting and journalism over the last several decades. She notes that the emphasis on accreditation, rather than on-the-ground experience, has come to dominate hiring practices, limiting the diversity of opinions presented and creating a more insular bubble around the profession. Her own immunity from the woke fashions may have to do with the fact that her social circle does not consist of always-online journalists, but more “normal” people. As we conclude, Kat talks about her experience collaborating with Stan Lee and her new book No One Will Miss Her, a thriller centered around the murder of a woman and her ties to a social media influencer - coming out in October. With its opening chapters set in October, it may just be what you're looking for to cozy up to as the nights grow long and the cool weather of autumn settles in.

Wherein the narrator, after recounting the finer points of his favorite early Superman comic, talks with author Douglas Wolk about his new book, ALL OF THE MARVELS. Wolk read all 27,000 issues of Marvel's expanded comic book universe and writes, in his story, about the beauty of confusion, the maturation of the brand, and whether Stan Lee did in fact hate children (this is the host's contention, not necessarily Wolk's).
Douglas Wolk is the author of All of the Marvels: A Journey to the Ends of the Biggest Story Ever Told, for which he read every single Marvel superhero comic. One of the Milksops' dream guests, J.M. DeMatteis graces the podcast this epsiode! J.M.'s credits in comics are vast: he had several long runs on Spider-Man (including the legendary series "Kraven's Last Hunt"), the dialogue writer on Justice League International (which was one of the funniest superhero comics ever, not that it was comedy, but still), Captain America, Moonshadow, Blood -- not to mention writing several episodes of animated series Justice League, Superman and others. J.M. asked to talk about Silver Surfer #3 from 1968. Written by Stan Lee and drawn by John Buscema, it's a philosophical, spiritual and trippy story --- no surprise that J.M. connected with it, given his long run of emotionally powerful comics stories. We were thrilled to have him! Oh, and he has a great John Lennon story which he DID NOT TELL US! -- SHOW INFORMATION Twitter: @ScrewItComics Instagram: @ScrewItComics Email: ScrewItComics@gmail.com Subscribe: Apple Podcasts Subscribe: Spotify

This week on Graymalkin Lane, Chad and Heather are joined by the hilarious Chris and Chandler from the X-Reads podcast, and we review and discuss X-Men #19! This is Stan Lee's LAST issue before he hands the writing duties over to Roy Thomas! This is also the first appearance of the Mimic, a long term X-Men ally (and sometimes enemy) who has the powers of all SIX of the original X-Men! How are they gonna defeat this guy?
Wes is joined by award-winning comic book editor Joe Corallo and comic super-fan Eric Breen to review Batman: First Appearance of Jason Todd Robin and discuss the career of Roy Thomas. Batman writer Doug Moench doesn't get nearly the love he deserves. Unfortunately, during his Batman run DC Comics were overshadowed by Marvel Comics greatest era. Moench superbly weaves the story of Jason Todd becoming the new Robin through Detective Comics #532-#535 and batman #366-#368. It's an era and moment not often explored but most comic book readers are going to find a fantastic version of Batman as he finally accepts Jason as his new Robin (00:00) Roy Thomas is sometimes downplayed as a Stan Lee disciple. Thomas certainly had an enormous respect or even reverence for Stan Lee but was his own comic book creator and Editor-in-Chief. He's not only the most prolific Conan comic book writer ever but he pushed for Marvel to publish the first Star Wars comics before the movie debuted. He's wrote and edited essentially every character and series of consequence during his time as Marvel Comics. Some may call him “House Roy” but that downplays the risk taker and comic book visionary Roy Thomas is. (57:10) Support Thinking Critical at Ko-fi. On this episode of the Sofa King Podcast, we talk about the life, creations, and comic books of the one and only Stan Lee. He was born Stanley Martin Lieber and shortened his name to save it in case he ever wanted to quit comics and write a real novel. Thankfully, this never happened. Stan Lee created (or co-created) some of the greatest comic characters of all time. More than that, however, he made them humans. Reading an early Marvel comic was like becoming part of a large family, and this was all thanks to the style and marketing genius of Lee. His story takes him from a depression-era street-kid to a US Army propaganda film maker alongside Dr. Seuss, to the face of one of the greatest fictional universes ever created. The complaints, which The Hollywood Reporter has obtained, come against the heirs of some late comic book geniuses including Stan Lee, Steve Ditko and Gene Colan. The suits seek declaratory relief that these blockbuster characters are ineligible for copyright termination as works made for hire. If Marvel loses, Disney would have to share ownership of characters worth billions. Marvel Studios Has Over 30 Projects in Active Development https://www.cbr.com/marvel-studios-30-plus-projects-in-development/ When veteran Marvel Studios producer Victoria Alonso was asked by 221radio if the company had 35 projects in the works, Alonso laughingly replied, "We are currently working on 31 projects, don't add 4 more, please." If that sounds like a lot to take on at once, Alonso agrees. Yet, the producer went on to assure fans that the studio is prepared for some hit-or-miss projects so long as they stay true to the human characters and interconnectedness of the MCU. "It is a question about how are we handling multiple plates in the air at the same time," Alonso continued, "and the biggest thing is that sometimes the plates fall, and, you know, what are you going to do then? We want people to understand that the idea that we have, to tell these connected stories, it is important that the world knows that the characters we create, their stories have to do with how humans interact with each other." Disney+ Marvel's What If…? team reveals season 1 finale intel: There's 'a bigger plan' AC Bradley Admits … We kill Tony a LOT https://ew.com/tv/marvel-what-if-ac-bradley-bryan-andrews-episode-8/ Season 1 was originally meant to be 10 episodes, but because of the COVID-19 pandemic one of those episodes had to be pushed to season 2, and Bradley says the delayed episode helped balance the other, darker stories. "Our 10th episode was a more light, upbeat Tony Stark episode," she says. "I noticed on Twitter we're getting a lot of crap for killing Tony a lot. He has become the Kenny of the What If…? universe by accident." The episodes have mirrored the comics by ending on cliffhangers that each tease a larger story. And it seems that all of those threads may actually come together in the season's final episode. It's also possible that the already announced second season could follow up on certain stories, while new methods of remotely making animated series may help the show to avoid the issues the pandemic has posed and craft longer episodes. For now, however, the show does still have one limit: the MCU. What If...? Episodes Are Shorter than Planned Because of COVID https://deadline.com/2021/09/what-if-marvel-series-a-c-bradley-podcast-interview-1234843778/ https://www.cbr.com/marvel-what-if-short-runtime-covid/ "What If...? comics ended abruptly and really dark to prove that the main timeline is the better timeline," Bradley said. "We've used that as our reason to cut stories off a little bit shorter. All these episodes could have been 45 minutes. Some of the animatics were 35 minutes, but due to animation and Covid, we cut them a little bit shorter than we would have liked." Disney+ Pushes Ms. Marvel to 2022 https://variety.com/lists/marvel-studios-release-schedule/ https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-ms-marvel-2022/ https://twitter.com/adambvary/status/1440844586016927744 Variety Senior Entertainment Writer Adam B. Vary recently posted an update regarding the Marvel Cinematic Universe's release schedule. "I've confirmed what was obvious to most Marvel Studios observers: [Ms. Marvel] has moved from a late 2021 release on Disney Plus to 2022," Vary tweeted. This is not the first report indicating Ms. Marvel's debut shift. TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich previously suggested the series had been delayed until early a 2022 delay. Film insider Amit Chaudhari recently stated that the series was set to hit Disney+ in February. Disney+ Removes Hayley Atwell's Agent Carter Short Film https://thedirect.com/article/disney-plus-removal-hayley-atwell-agent-carter-short-film Marvel Studios' Agent Carter One-Shot was completely removed from Disney+, seemingly across all territories. In mid-September 2021, Marvel Studios' Agent Carter One-Shot was added to Disney+ within its own special section/page . Beforehand, the short could only be found in Iron Man 3 's EXTRAS section; Agent Carter has been removed there as well. There doesn't seem to be any clear indication as to why Disney+ would remove a section solely dedicated to the Agent Carter One-Shot. The One-Shot originally appeared on the 2013 DVD and digital release of Iron Man 3 and gave some brief insight into how Peggy eventually started up what viewers knew as SHIELD. From there, the Agent Carter ABC show was also born, spanning two seasons on the television network . On its own, the One-Shot exemplifies the brilliance of Atwell's character; it reminds viewers of why she is now a returning force to the franchise and re-emphasizes her importance to MCU lore as a whole . It's possible that its removal could have been nothing more than in preparation for bigger and better things to come for Peggy; maybe the streaming service pulled the gun and wants to highlight her more so down the line, possibly aligning with the Season 1 finale of What If...? . Video Games https://gamerant.com/marvel-vs-capcom-2-disney-capcom-revival-discussion-report/ This campaign to bring back Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 was started by Maximilian Dood, a YouTuber whose content revolves around fighting games. He started the campaign earlier this year under "#FREEMVC2" in order to gather support to hopefully re-release the crossover game onto modern systems. This caught the attention of Digital Eclipse, a studio that has worked with both Disney and Capcom to remaster some of its old games. Studio head Mike Mika showed his support for re-releasing the game, along with giving the game a proper remaster treatment. In a recent interview with Shacknews, Mika brings further thoughts to the table regarding how this re-release could be possible. I think I'm officially over this series. Beard Watch 2021 — 09/25/2021 Space-god frat boy holds intergalactic kegger does not make for a good story to me. StargatePioneer — 09/25/2021 Overall the series is a light hearted campy ride that hits some weeks and misses in other episodes. Not to mention a few tragic stories along the way too. But I certainly would not take any of it too seriously. This week's episode especially was meant more as a fun dalliance than any other with events that could only be told via a cartoon IMO. But all this is from a guy who like The Phantom Menace, dislikes Empire Strikes Back and is often wrong. So I might just be drinking the cool aid. Erasure (Too Lazy !!) — 09/26/2021 That's on this was one of my favorite episodes too along with T'Challa Star Lord. And wow someone else who likes the Phantom Menace and Empire not so much Others do exist TPM is one of my highest ranked SW films while ESB is one of my lowest. Episode 276: The Crew's eating chocolate and human brains while watching Ruben Fleischer's Venom. After the poor reaction to Spider-Man 3, Venom gets to shine in his own movie. Although the film didn't win any Oscars, comic fans seemed to embrace it regardless of Spider-Man's involvement. The cast, led by a super committed Tom Hardy, are better than the material deserves. We have a double feature of reviews this week on The Direct Podcast! What If...? debuts its penultimate episode, exploring a universe where Ultron won. We recap and review Marvel animated's eighth episode, analyze what the groundbreaking ending means, and offer our predictions for the finale. On the theatrical side, Venom: Let There Be Carnage has hit theaters! With much of the marketing campaign focused on the film's post credits scene, was the movie itself any good? We analyze all things Eddie Brock and deep dive into the future plans for the Venom franchise. Aside from the reviews, all three branches of Marvel, DC, and Star Wars brought big news this week. Is the Marvel Cinematic Universe in danger of losing some of their biggest characters? Who is joining the cast of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom? On this week's episode, Sonny Bunch (The Bulwark), Alyssa Rosenberg (The Washington Post), and Peter Suderman (Reason) discuss the legal back and forth between Disney and the estates of Marvel's most famous creators, including those of Steve Ditko and Stan Lee, as well as fan reactions to the (very slight!) possibility that copyright termination notices will be the death of the MCU as we know it. Is legal wrangling the kryptonite (sorry, mixing universes) that will slay the biggest film franchise in movie history? The gang also reviews The Eyes of Tammy Faye, asking why it feels so slight given the overtly theatrical nature of the subject in question. It could be a Stan Lee comic. Tragic origin, raised in a nearly-hostile orphanage, forced to learn the world's ropes on her own, and constantly fighting off the effects of tranquilizers, Beth Harmon discovers that she has a superpower: she's REALLY good at chess. The Queen's Gambit tees up tons of great themes about a young woman in the 1950's and 60's making her way in a man's world, navigating relationships, and wrestling with addiction. Is she more than her analytical powers? Can she stand against a Russian grandmaster backed by a chess establishment that has the advantage of decades of experience over her? And along the way, is romance a game she's fated to lose? Gambits are a kind of offer in chess: lots of excitement and the possibility of victory, but with a lot more risk along the way, if you dare to take them on instead of playing it safe in the duller, familiar lines. Turns out that Beth Harmon has a chance to play the Gambit we all get offered: to love and be loved in the broken world, and find patterns of victory in its midst nonetheless.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Marvel's Agent Carter, Marvel's Daredevil, Marvel's Jessica Jones, Marvel's Luke Cage, Marvel's Iron Fist, Marvel's The Defenders, Marvel's Inhumans, Marvel's The Punisher, Marvel's Runaways, Marvel's Cloak & Dagger, and Helstrom* comprise 29 seasons of television/386 episodes/over 300 hours, making up a massive portion of the official Marvel Cinematic Universe (as of the end of 2020, approximately 86% of it by runtime**). … The Incidents That Have Caused Increasing Concern: ...I was already scared by 2019 of how Captain Marvel would handle Coulson's history. Fortunately, the excellent film did not provide many significant problems, but this felt only like luck, since the film did not appear to take Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. into account: seemingly implying that Fury and Coulson barely knew each other in 1995 (the show established Fury recruited and supervised Coulson in 1982), and having Coulson mention the Kree (Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 1 involved him not knowing who the Kree were – fortunately, the T.A.H.I.T.I. protocol erased Coulson's memory of everything to do with his resurrection, and with Kree being a key part, they would naturally have also been wiped). The perfect casting of Mahershala Ali as Blade also unfortunately further drove the false narrative online, with people claiming that it meant the shows were “confirmed” non-canon due to Ali already having an MCU role as Cottonmouth. While this was an Internet overreaction given there are other examples of dual casting, the dual casting quirk not being acknowledged felt concerning. It admittedly did not help that Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.: Season 6 set itself a year after Avengers: Infinity War and Marvel's Runaways: Season 3 took its timeline through to post-Avengers: Infinity War 2018 dates, yet unfortunately neither referenced the Snap. A 2019 quote from Mr. Feige, which fairly described the Disney+ shows as the first time TV would truly connect back and forth with the films, was falsely run by sites as “confirmation” that the other shows were not part of the MCU. This quote has been weaponised and referenced ad nauseum for 2 years. The Darkhold would appear in WandaVision with no link to Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D./Marvel's Runaways The fan reaction to the Darkhold and Mobius scenes has also led to upsetting incidents where creators such as Jac Schaeffer and Michael Waldron are asked questions they are seemingly, understandably, not informed to answer, giving confused and accidentally damaging quotes. Cannon Impact: There are other great Marvel shows, e.g. Legion, but these have nowhere near the power or lasting impact in my heart simply by virtue of not being part of this world. The MCU family is such a wonderful thing, but right now, Television-inclusive fans don't feel like we're welcome in that family anymore. Mooted “Possibilities” If the Inhuman Royal Family needed to be rebooted within the MCU… it would not be the worst thing imaginable. The idea of being an extricable part of the MCU does not apply to Marvel's Iron Fist There is precedent with Star Wars for wiping canon, but there it was motivated by a need to free the storytelling. The Marvel Television MCU shows are not particularly restrictive. Most things can be picked up on fairly easily, perhaps at most needing a couple of throwaway setup lines. Alternate Universe: The shows aren't novelty What If…? type stories, e.g. “What If… Phil Coulson Were Resurrected?”, made to be a separate little alternate story – but born and bred as parts of building, developing, growing, interweaving the beautiful main MCU world and timeline. Some Hopes Recently, Mr. Feige made the comment, “Everything is on the board. That's one of the fun things about the comics is that characters would appear and disappear and come and go […] There are some great characters and actors from those shows.” This exciting quote bears similarity to previous remarks of Mr. Feige's, such as, “All of those things inhabit, however far on the outskirts, the same continuity, so certainly that opportunity [to integrate those characters] exists.” Eternals Earns PG-13 Rating https://www.filmratings.com/Search?filmTitle=eternals&x=0&y=0 https://www.cbr.com/marvel-eternals-rating-description/ FilmRatings.com's breakdown of the rating describes Eternals as including "fantasy violence and action, some language and brief sexuality." It's the latter element that has fans raising their eyebrows, with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's movies having avoided sexual content since Disney acquired Marvel Entertainment in 2009. Unlike MCU movies past, romance is said to play a key role in the film's narrative. It even features a love triangle between on-again, off-again Eternal couple Ikaris (Richard Madden) and Sersi (Gemma Chan) and Dane Whitman (Kit Harington), the mortal human who's dating Sersi when the movie picks up in the present. The "brief sexuality" could also allude to a scene with Thena (Angelina Jolie), an Eternal warrior who becomes romantically involved with the Deviant Kro in Marvel's comics books. Perhaps tellingly, the final Eternals trailer shows Kro ensnaring Thena with his tendril-like appendages in an oddly intimate fashion, possibly alluding to the pair being in love. Even more intriguing, Eternals is confirmed to include an onscreen kiss between the Eternal Phastos (Brian Tyree Henry) and his husband (Haaz Sleiman), which begs the question: will the movie be daring enough to feature a sexual moment involving a queer couple? It seems unlikely, given the MPAA's restrictive attitude towards LGBTQ+ content, but that won't stop fans from hoping anyway. As part of its preview of upcoming fall TV shows, Entertainment Weekly casually confirmed that Marvel's Hit-Monkey is not only a go but it's coming on Nov. 17 to Hulu. The long-in-development series has been relatively quiet since it was first announced as part of a suite of adult animated shows for Hulu, but fans can now expect it soon. Along with the release date, Hulu shared the first image from the show, featuring the titular assassin and his incorporeal sidekick. Check it out: Revenge can be sweet — and sometimes fuzzy. Based on the Marvel comic and created by Josh Gordon and Will Speck, this darkly comedic series follows a Japanese snow macaque whose clan meets a stranded hitman, Bryce (Jason Sudeikis), and nurses him back to health. But when Bryce bites the dust, it's up to the titular simian (guided by Bryce's ghost) to follow in his assassin footsteps and seek vengeance. "He's a character who is violent and temper amental but also deeply wounded and innocent," says Gordon. —Devan Coggan Hit-Monkey Trailer https://twitter.com/Marvel/status/1439952785953361927?s=20 Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D./Agent Carter Marvel One-Shot “Agent Carter” Becomes Easier To Find On Disney+ https://whatsondisneyplus.com/marvel-one-shot-agent-carter-becomes-easier-to-find-on-disney/ Following the release of the Marvel One-Shot “All Hail The King” on Disney+, Disney+ has made a little reshuffle and moved out the Agent Carter short into its own listing, having previously been found in the “Iron Man 3” extra section. In the short, we see British operative Peggy Carter joining the nascent S.H.I.E.L.D. organization. As she searches for the “Zodiac” key, Agent Carter also battles her misogynistic, bureaucratic boss, Agent Flynn. It takes place after the main events of Captain America: The First Avenger. The short was originally released in 2013 and was released originally on the Iron Man 3 Blu-ray/DVD. It stars Hayley Atwell, Bradley Whitford, Dominic Cooper, Shane Black, Neal McDonough, and Tim Trobec. Currently, the short has only been moved into its own listing in some countries, including the US, Canada and Australia. Moving the short out from the extras section makes sense for multiple reasons, mainly to make it easier for people to find it. Things Are About To Get Spooky! Welcome to September 25th, 2021 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate spooky searches and unsung heroes. As a child Ed Warren grew up in a haunted house. His future wife, Lorraine realized that she had clairvoyant abilities. When they married, the two became world-renowned paranormal investigators, helping people with hauntings and supernatural phenomena. Among their most famous cases were Annabelle, a possessed doll and the Amityville Horror. They became so well known that Ed was even recognized by the Catholic Church as a demonologist. The Warrens' story has inspired amateur ghost hunters around the world to seek out haunted houses, and signs of spiritual activity. You may not be a believer but on National Ghost Hunting Day, you can celebrate with your internet search that may just change your mind. Every comic book fan knows the name, Stan Lee. But you may not be familiar with his partner, Jack Kirby. Together they created Iron Man, Thor, Hulk and the X-Men. Stan was the writer and Jack was the artist. Jack had been working in comics years before the two teamed up, creating his most famous character as World War II broke out. If you've ever seen Captain America punching Hitler in the face, Jack drew that. Shortly after he was drafted by the Army and assigned as a scout because he was able to quickly draw reconnaissance maps. After returning to the United States, Jack met Stan Lee and the rest is history. On National Comic Book Day, celebrate the men and women behind the heroes who may just prove that truth is more amazing than fiction. I'm Anna Devere and I'm Marlo Anderson. Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.

"Everyone is fighting a battle you know nothing about". There are so many variations of this quote. Dating back a hundreds of years. It seems as though bullying has become both an inside and outside job. So much so, that we've gotten into the habit of perfecting it. All of us. This is not exactly a skill set you add proudly to the resume. But whatever version you resonate with, the overall message is this: We all have stuff. So, get curious, courageous and vulnerable. Ask for help. And most importantly, be kind…to yourself and others. And...listen up! During this episode of HIListically Speaking, Marketing & Business Strategist and Coach Vince Warnock shares his own personal experience about how bullying in the school yard was just as present in the board room. Even with his fellow C-Suite rockstars had taken the fall time and time again. Sound familiar? Now, Vince helps entrepreneurs find their voice and face their fears in the most authentic way... personally and professionally. And, we'd be doing Vince a disservice if it wasn't mentioned that Star Wars and Stan Lee may have had something to do with his own success from corporate CEO and broadcaster to entrepreneurial super hero. We're "Chasing the Insights" on this episode of HIListically Speaking. And if you're serious about making an impact as CEO in your own life and those you serve, claim an amazing offer and book a free strategy call with Vince after you listen to the conversation. Intro New #BecauseComics moment per episode Background (2:58) Crystalia Amaquelin created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in Fantastic Four #45 (Dec. 1965) She is unique among Marvel characters in that she has been a member of the Fantastic Four, Avengers, and Inhumans, as well as tangentially related to the X-Men Crystal is a member of the Inhuman Royal Family, sister to Queen Medusa, with the ability to control the elements She first encountered the Fantastic Four on the run from the Seeker, who wanted to destroy the Royal Family - saved by Johnny Storm, the two quickly fell in love When Sue Storm Richards was pregnant with Franklin and left the team, Crystal served as her replacement Left the team after discovering that her stay on Earth was poisoning her, as her Inhuman body could not handle the Earth's atmosphere, and she returned to Attilan, breaking up with Johnny In the process of Lockjaw teleporting her home, she encountered Quicksilver, who was injured battling Sentinels - she brought him home to the Great Refuge to help him recover, and over time they fell in love and announced their marriage They had a baby girl, Luna, who exhibited no powers - Crystal forced Pietro to agree that Luna would grow up normally Pietro's temper grates on Crystal, and she has an affair with Wanda & Vision's realtor, a human named Norman Webster - Norman ends the affair when he realizes Crystal is married, and Pietro initially refuses to attempt reconciliation She attempted to renew her relationship with Johnny, but she found he was married to Alicia Masters (actually a Skrull in disguise #BecauseComics), and when an Inhuman crisis endangered the entire family, she and Pietro eventually reconciled Joined the Avengers, and moved into the mansion with Luna and her nanny, Marilla During her tenure, she became close with Dane Whitman, the Black Knight, who was himself the target of Sersi's affections, all while Crystal and Pietro were working on reestablishing their relationship - this love quadrangle created many difficult situations, until Dane & Sersi were sent to another dimension After Heroes Reborn, Crystal and Pietro were reunited, but Dane also returned to the universe, and when Dane and Pietro later fought over Crystal, she left them both to return to Attilan to think After House of M, Pietro stole Terrigen Mists and exposed Luna, granting her powers - this act led to Black Bolt annulling the marriage She was then betrothed to Ronan (by Medusa) as part of an alliance between the Inhumans and the Kree - the marriage was quickly ended, however, as a deal was struck with Black Bolt and the Supreme Intelligence Made an Inhuman ambassador by Queen Medusa, leads the Royal Inhuman Diplomatic Mission Issues (9:10) Jeanine: Stepping away from royal family In the shadow of her older sister (19:17) Difficulty of being a super parent (25:12) Break (30:44) Plugs for BetterHelp, Scotch N Sports, and Al Ewing Treatment (32:42) In-universe - Bring in Captain Planet as a mentor Out of universe - Focus on emotional impact of making those important decisions (35:14) Skit (41:52) Doc: Hello Crystal, I'm Dr. Issues. Crystal: Hi Doctor. D: Thank you for meeting with me. I'm a little sad to see Luna's not here, though. C: She's with my family. For better or worse I have no shortage of babysitters. It helps to know so many folks with superpowers. D: Yes, you do have quite the list of friends and colleagues. C: Which is one of the things I wanted to talk to you about. D: OK, shoot. C: I've been an Avenger, a member of the Fantastic Four, one of the Inhuman Royal Family, and affiliated with the X-Men. I hardly have any peers who have those kinds of connections. And my powerset means I can control all of the elements. Yet I always feel like I'm not taken seriously enough. I'm either Medusa's kid sister, or worse yet Pietro's ex. D: So your primary issue is that of establishing an identity separate from those around you? C: Yes, exactly! D: I see. Well, my first thing I want to make clear is that being part of these groups isn't necessarily a bad thing, and- C: Oh I'm well aware, and I apologize if it came across as such. I'm proud to be included in these rosters. The relationships I've built over the years mean the world to me, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. It's just… that's not *all* of who I am. D: That's certainly frustrating, and I see why- C: And that's what few people understand. Pietro understood that...understands that? I don't know...we've gone back and forth so many times. He's so impulsive. I want him to slow down sometimes, but that's not who he is, and then that makes me realize that I wasn't understanding him...oh, it burns me up inside! *flame sound effect* D: Relationships that are frayed don't have to be completely incinerated...like you just did to that insurance form. Can we - C: Oh no! I didn't mean to take it out on your possessions! That reminds me of when I talk to Johnny. It's weird. We work as great friends, but I sometimes go down a ‘what-if' rabbit hole if I had built something special with him. But that's not fair to him either. My mind is a tornado right now *wind noises* D: I see...how demonstrative. *clearly frustrated* I'll just restack those files a bit later. It sounds like you have tied so many parts of who you are to other people, that it even becomes tiresome for you to differentiate your motivations from those around you. How do you cope with that? C: I make time for myself. At least, I used to. I'm not an absentee parent. Luna comes first. When I get a chance like this, I seem to be out of sorts. *water effects gently throughout her speech* I get flooded with thoughts of how she's doing, if I'm missing something, if I should have pushed for more co-parenting, If I'm pawning her off too much. Am I making any sense? D: *barely hiding his frustration* I am awash with inspiration on how to help you...and so are my shoes. The anxiety of parenting never goes away, but rest assured that one of the best things you can show your child is letting them face some of their own challenges. C: *angry* Challenges?! She was kidnapped before! Caring for Lockjaw is a challenge! No, I won't be a helicopter parent, but do you know what it's like to lose the most important thing to your soul? You question reality. *earthquake effects* The ground you walk on might as well swallow you whole. Everyone judges you left and right. You judge yourself...harshly. It's not fair. It's not fair to her, or to me. I can stand on my own without a royal say-so- D: CRYSTAL! STOP! C: Huh? D: *Exhausted, but calm* Please...stop. I got the message. I've never had a patient connect so viscerally to everything that's going on in their psyche. This is a private session, but it may be the greatest public example of what makes you...you! C: So it's just my powers? D: NO! No. It's the emotional intelligence fluidity. You are able to adapt to those around you and feel just as comfortable on a new team as well as with old friends. New bonds are capable of being as strong, or stronger, than prior relationships. That's a trait that not everyone comes by easily. But there's an obvious peril with that. You're always navigating a shifting hierarchy of personal priorities. That can be exhausting. C: *sarcastic* You don't say? I just… I don't want to BE my sister, but sometimes I envy the straightforward manner with which she deals with situations. She's the queen. Everyone knows that, so there's no wishy-washiness. With me, it all depends on who it is and what they need. I know you're saying that's a good thing, but uggghhhh is it draining. D: I get that. And I'm grateful that wasn't accompanied by another power flux. What I would encourage you to do is to take a look at each relationship in your life, and determine how important it is to you. You don't have to rank each one individually, maybe just use a few tiers. Then, if you're in a situation where you have a choice to make, utilize the tiers to determine which one takes precedence. And let's not forget about your own needs as well. C: Hmm. Interesting idea. Well, it can't be any worse than what I've been doing so far. Which is winging it. D: Much of life is winging it, but with a bit more wisdom each time. The course corrections are less tricky with every turn. C: I understand. Thanks for the advice, and sorry for the damage to the office. You can send the bill to Black Bolt. At least we know he won't yell about it *heehee* Ending (47:32) Recommended reading: Avengers: Bloodties, War of Kings Next episodes: Emma Frost, Starfire, Children of super villains Plugs for social References: Medusa episode - Anthony (4:02) South Park “Feelin' good on a Wednesday” - Anthony (9:06) Don Cheadle is Captain Planet - Anthony (34:04) Apple Podcasts: here Google Play: here Stitcher: here TuneIn: here iHeartRadio: here Spotify: here Twitter Facebook Patreon TeePublic Discord
Nik Walker (Hamilton, Ain't Too Proud) is a true Disney Parks fan, and shares everything from his favorite memories of going to the Parks, as well as his connection to the brand on this episode of "E-Ticket to Broadway." As a young boy in Boston where he would watch all of the Disney animated classics ("Disney was my babysitter") Nik discusses how he very early on was affected by the magic that was started by a Mouse. He recalls his early trips to the Parks--including a connection with Tom Sawyer's Island, a stay at the Grand Floridian, as well as his first trip on The Indiana Jones Adventure at Disneyland (spoiler alert: it didn't last too long)--and finding a sense of home that is incredibly welcoming, full of incredible smells and sounds. Nik reveals his strong admiration for Flight of Passage and Galaxy's Edge, and shares a funny story of explaining The Haunted Mansion to his wife on a trip they took together to the Parks. He and David discuss Land v. World, and the joy that is taking non-believers to the Disney Parks and converting them. As such a devoted member of the different fandoms that are now included in the Disney umbrella--Star Wars, Marvel, and The Muppets--David asks about Nik's favorite characters from each world, and together they play "Walt, Stan, George, or Jim," a game in which David reads a quote and Nik guesses which visionary (Walt Disney, Stan Lee, George Lucas, or Jim Henson) said it. In Episode 50 of CEREBRO, the SEASON 1 FINALE, Connor and returning guest Spencer Ackerman survey the schemes of Charles Xavier, the persuasive Professor X! Created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, the X-Men's wise teacher and mentor slowly became a much darker and more foreboding character, a father figure gone wrong. The CEREBRO character file on Professor X begins at 50:12. (Content Advisory: Charles's story includes ableism, child abuse, stillbirth, genocide including the Holocaust, brainwashing, and an inappropriate romantic relationship between a doctor and a patient.)
Act 3 fans, get ready. Steven and Chandler have often joked about using a "loose format" when an episode goes off the rails, but this week's Act 3 is, perhaps, the loosest of loose formats. Steven and Chandler are joined this week by the ghost of "Stan Lee" and "Rocket Raccoon" as they discuss the latest entertainment news. Chandler has the scoop on "Shang-Chi, and the Legend of the Ten Rings," the newest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, we have what is hopefully, the final news story we will need to report about "Jeopardy's" Mike Richards, and Steven and Chandler talk about "Annette," the new film starring Adam Driver that is now streaming on Amazon Prime video. If you like fun and the hijinks this episode is brimming over with them. Click the play button and see what we mean. Time Codes: Act One: News -06:30- Mike Richards steps down as Jeopardy! PUBLIC VERSION. Writer, producer, and creator Ryan Silbert (Stan Lee's ALLIANCES: A TRICK OF LIGHT, ALLIANCES: A NEW REALITY, THE GIRL IS IN TROUBLE, the upcoming film adaptation of Stephen King's THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON) joins Adam, Joe, and Arwen to share his career journey so far. From his start producing, writing, and directing countless short films… to producing features like the Wilmer Valderrama starring THE GIRL IS IN TROUBLE… to bringing the late Stan Lee's ALLIANCES to vivid aural life as a hugely successful and New York Times best-selling Audible Original… to his writing work on this year's incredible audio thriller THE COLDEST CASE (featuring Aaron Paul, Alexis Bledel, Nathalie Emmanuel, Krysten Ritter, Beau Bridges, and more) and all that goes into story telling through sound only… to what it's like working with “ghosts” and the pressures that come with bringing to life the revered voices and imprints of the late Stan Lee and the late George A. Romero (who had been set to direct the film adaptation of THE GIRL WHO LOVED TOM GORDON for many years before his death)… this conversation is one hell of a candid geek out between three working creatives. Dr. Arwen provides “Hollywood Therapy” for a listener concerned with setting up their finances for retirement, Adam shares why his newfound excitement for writing novels may be short lived, and the group discusses what it's like telling science fiction/fantasy/horror stories that comment on human society during these unprecedented times when society can't even seem to agree on reality.

The man is quoted as saying that "you will see comic book art in museums." And boy was he ever right. Jack "King" Kirby is one of, if not the, most prolific comic book creators of our time. A name that can be credited with creating Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, the Incredible Hulk, Darkseid and believe us the list goes on and on. His art is easily some of the most recognizable in the entire comic book world. He is loved and revered by fans and his legacy is unmatched. From Marvel to DC and beyond The King is someones name you should learn alongside Stan Lee's. His story is not one without controversy but we love him all the same. Take a listen as we talk about the one of the all time greats - Jack Kirby. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/jafnpodcast/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/jafnpodcast/support

Thanks to our awesome Patrons, we're proud to present another Booksplode! This month, Josh Flanagan and Conor Kilpatrick take a look at... True Believer: The Rise and Fall of Stan Lee by Abraham Riesman! What's a Booksplode? It's a bi-monthly special edition show in which we take a look at a single graphic novel or collected edition, something we really just don't have time to do on the regular show. In this case it's our first prose book! Running Time: 00:46:00 Music: "I Believe" Chris Isaak Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
