This special mid-week bonus episode is an interview recorded in Challengers with Onrie Kompan and Dan Dougherty, creators of the new real life historical graphic novel MARX: A Tale of Neglect. It was recorded just before Christmas, so forgive a few Holiday well-wishes that are merely a week old. This graphic novel is the story of what Onrie’s grandfather went thru during World War II. Onrie Kompan has defied the rules of the comic industry to be very successful on his own terms. Without the help of a publisher or mainstream comic distribution he is a one man army. Currently he has a documentary being made about his remarkable achievement of selling over 1500 comics at NYCC. Not bad for an American writing a historical comic about a Korean sea battle. His work is featured in Korean museums, he has been invited to do many speaking engagements and has been a consultant on a movie about the life of Yi Soon Shin. This is an uplifting episode about the power of believing in comics and the lessons of how to be a good neighbor at conventions and raise everyone up with you.
