The Combat Air Museum has served as an educational institution and tourism destination for forty four years. It is one of a handful of major aviation museums in the United States located on an active air field. Visitors to our Museum are regularly treated to flying activities of Air Force fighter aircraft and Army helicopter operations. With the longest runway in the State of Kansas, large refueling tanker aircraft of the Kansas Air National Guard and army troop transports often fill the skies around the Museum. The Museum's "Young Aviators" classes and Girls In Aviation Day offer students and Girl Scouts a unique opportunity to be immersed in the midst of a museum covering aviation history from the earliest days of flight to the present day. Located at the Topeka Regional Airport on Forbes Field in Topeka, Kansas, the Combat Air Museum is a federally recognized not-for-profit 501(c)(3) educational organization dedicated to the creation of facilities and resources for the education of the local and regional communities through the collection, preservation, conservation and exhibition of aircraft, information, artifacts, technology and art associated with the military aviation history of the United States of America. On exhibit at the Museum: 45 aircraft ranging from the earliest aviation period to the present day Largest collection of WWI replica aircraft in the Mid-West Historic aircraft engines of many sizes and types, including a rare Whittle Gas Turbine Engine An extensive display of artifacts and dioramas and a growing gallery of military aviation art Membership Becoming a member in the Combat Air Museum is important to our continuing ability to preserve and interpret the history of aviation. Members receive unlimited free admission, a bi-monthly newsletter (Plane Talk), discounts on gift shop merchandise, invitation to our social events, including bi-monthly meetings with speakers on a wide range of interesting subjects and, above all, a unique exposure to aviation history. The Museum has become a popular destination for tourists to northeast Kansas and membership in CAM can help support this facility to continue as a valuable contributor to the quality of life in the region. As promised, I am releasing a new segment on the podcast with the help of one of my very good friends Eli Maloy. Eli was my very first guest on the #AskTheAvGeek Show but now in 2019, we are starting a new segment together. We don't have a name yet but that doesn't matter, this episode was all about just getting it out to the audience. This segment is all about being real with our hopes and dreams in aviation. Not everything is as great as it seems.. we all have our truths and problems. I'm hoping this new segment helps others realize that being real is freeing and being real as a young aviator, is even better! Eli and I noticed there is a lot of fronting' going on with young aviators but we want to keep it real. We don't know what the future holds for this segment but we know its going to be fun! Come along with us as 2 young aviators just talk about out struggles and truth in aviation! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/avgeekchronicles/support
