Three Things: 1) Reopen Protests 2) Biden's Veepstakes 3) Disparate impact of COVID deaths on people of color
Zhubin Parang is a delightful human, comedian, improviser, writer, and producer at the Daily Show. Listen to him on THIS show daily! Or at least once. This is the episode he's on. But you can definitely listen every day if you want to. Enjoy! Whee!
Political satire isn't new, it's been with us throughout history, even Shakespeare's works were packed with political commentary. Lately Political News itself seems more like entertainment television. So how do you make fun of something that already seems like a joke? Our next guest says, it's a blessing and a curse to be a Trump era comedian. Zhubin Parang is a producer for the Daily Show with Trevor Noah having previously served as the head writer for three years. He even majored in political science and sociology at Vanderbilt University. He attended Georgetown law school, he was a corporate lawyer before he was hired by the Daily Show. Zhubin has won multiple primetime Emmy awards for his work on the Daily Show. His trip to Duke was sponsored by POLIS, the center for Political Leadership, Innovation and Service, as well as the Dewitt Wallace Center for Media andDemocracy, the Sanford School and the Graduate Student Association of Iranians at Duke. On today's episode I talk to Emmy-award winning writer and performer Zhubin Parang. Before coming to comedy, Zhubin graduated from Georgetown University Law Center and was a practicing lawyer in New York City. During this time, he studied at and eventually became a performer at UCB. In 2011, he joined The Daily Show with Jon Stewart as a writer, and eventually Zhubin became the head writer when the show transitioned to Trevor Noah. This is the website for Beginnings, subscribe on iTunes, follow me on Twitter.
Back in 2013, Mark and Iliana Inocencio (then co-host of The PITcast) sat down with Daily Show writer Zhubin Parang to hear about what it takes to be a Daily Show writer and a successful comedian in NYC. Since then, Zhubin has become the Head Writer for The Daily Show! Theme Song: "Breakdown" by Homesick Sun
Correspondent Samantha Bee bids farewell to The Daily Show alongside senior producer Miles Kahn, coordinating field producer Alison Camillo and writer Zhubin Parang. Sam and Miles share some of the best advice Jon ever gave them. Zhubin details how his obsession with Fox's The Five led to one of Sam's most memorable performances.
Correspondent Jordan Klepper and writer Zhubin Parang take a look back at 2014 -- the harrowing news stories that tested their comedic chops and the movies that provided respite. Zhubin talks about his transition from being a lawyer to writing comedy, then cross-examines Jordan, a former national mock trial champion.
Zhubin Parang and Daniel Radosh are Emmy Award winning writers for The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. In this ground-touching episode we band together to review several of this seasons new sitcoms including Dads (ugh), Brooklyn Nine-Nine (yea!), Mom (meh), The Goldbergs (sure, why not?), and Back in the Game (a solid single). For good measure, Zhubin and Daniel and I also review a few established shows - New Girl (adorkable), Modern Family (unbeatable), South Park (dependable), and Two Broke Girls (unwatchable). This is a detailed breakdown of what makes sitcoms either great, good, predicable or infuriating... in our humble opinions of course. Get your pencils ready, BlocHeads. An excessive amount of useful information is just a click away. (So click it already!) (Jeesh!)
Will everyone please just settle down? Things will go a lot smoother if you hold your questions until the end of this planning commission meeting. This week, I sit down with Emmy Award-winning writer Zhubin Parang (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) to discuss his love of Bob Dylan, why Billy Joel is underrated, and why it might be kind of cool to have a former lover write a hateful song about you. We also talk about comedy and how working at a fake news organization is different from working at a real news organization. xx, Sherry PS For more with Zhubin, check out our special bonus episode, also out today!
Zhubin Parang (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart) and Sherry discuss their shared Iranian/Persian heritage and then talk a whole lot about food!
Be it friends, family, lovers, business associates, or even telemarketers, when you need to talk to someone, what better way than to pick up a receiver and briefly chit chat about the weather or local sports team before eventually getting to the point? The answer: No better way. Whether it's for 5 seconds or 5 hours, it seems, this week, no one can stop talking About Talking On the Phone! To get to the bottom of this trend, we talk to one of the most influential voices in 21st-century communication, Peyton Parker. Peyton, of course, is the inventor of the popular iPhone and we're very excited to talk to him about his exciting life and career. After that, we'll talk to Bethany Frankel. Bethany, as you may know, is the world record holder for the longest phone conversation in history. It goes without saying, but this girl loves to talk on the phone! This week's episode also features a field piece from our producer, Taylor Moore. Taylor will be hitting the streets to see if he, himself, can make a phone call. Can it be that easy, or is there more to this trend than meets the eye? Also on the show, we'll also have a look at this week's headlines, talk at length about the white pages, and, of course, music from the Foo Fighters. This week on America Won't Shut Up! Our guests this week are Zhubin Parang and Halle Kiefer. Zhubin (@zhubinparang) is writer for the Daily Show and can be seen around town drinking various diet sodas. Halle (@hallekiefer) hosts the monthy Dog & Pony Show at the UCB East in NYC. As of press time, no word on her soda preference.
