This week Steve, Dana, and Julia convene once again—this time with some big news. Also, they make a classic Gabfest episode. First up, it's the alienating fluorescent buzz, infinite carpeted sprawl, and liminal horror of Backrooms. The new release from A24 is directed by 20-year-old Kane Parsons based on his YouTube series which itself was inspired by deep internet lore and a viral piece of creepypasta. Does the uncanny maze of Backrooms go anywhere? They step into the labyrinth to find out. Next, they're joined by Gabfest fave Leon Neyfakh to get into another parallel dimension: the world of OnlyFans. They discuss Leon's new podcast about the ubiquitous platform OnlyFantasy—produced with comedian and OF creator Gracie Canaan. Finally, it's a conversation that's as lively as… well, that's the question. They take up a recent piece of data journalism in The Pudding analyzing the most common similes. In a bonus episode, Carl Wilson joins the call (as well as a special endorsement segment) to talk taste. Specifically, they get into how discussions of taste have changed since Carl wrote authoritatively on it 18 years ago in his book Let's Talk About Love: Why Other People Have Bad Taste.EndorsementsDana: The recent Zadie Smith essay in The New York Review of Books "Art for Our Sakes." Carl: The live album Happy Today by Jeff Parker and ETA IVtet as well as the anthology of poetry On Occasion: Poems for the People, with a special Canadian shoutout to the poem "Oh Americans" by Gary Barwin.Julia: The tranquil, koi fish-rich, and very SoCal Self-Realization Fellowship Lake Shrine. Also, L.A. listeners should join the folks of L.A Material, Punch List, and New York Review of Architecture on June 7 for the event LACMA Therapy Session to process all their complicated feelings about the new David Geffen Galleries.Steve: The band The Durutti Column as sampled in the Blood Orange song "The Field." Plus, Steve would love to know what listeners make of the author J.M. Coetzee, particularly his novel Disgrace.(Also, make sure to subscribe to Carl's fantastic newsletter Crritic!)--Email us your thoughts at culturefest@slate.com.

In this episode of Art Wank, we speak with Mason Kimber, a Sydney based artist represented by N.Smith Gallery and Sophie Gannon Gallery. Kimber's practice moves between textural painting, sculptural relief and installation, exploring the relationship between architecture, memory and surface. We discuss how childhood experiences wandering through his father's Perth nightclubs shaped his fascination with interiors, texture and built environments, and how these memories continue to inform his paintings today. Kimber reflects on expanding the language of painting through moulding, casting and framing, creating works that sit somewhere between painting, object and architecture. The conversation also touches on studying fresco painting during his residency at the British School at Rome, completing a PhD focused on expanded painting practices, and balancing studio work with teaching at the National Art School and UNSW Art & Design.A conversation about memory, materiality, architecture and the possibilities of painting beyond the flat surface.Magenta House Hosted on Acast. Luis Elizondo explores the "legacy program," a term for historic efforts by the government and defense contractors to exploit recovered UAP technology. He confirms the existence of material artifacts from non-conventional crashes, though specific locations remain classified. He mentions "DIRDs"—Defense Intelligence Reference Documents—written to investigate how to replicate UAP performance. Elizondo emphasizes that his book, Imminent, is just the beginning. He urges the American public to demand transparency and accountability from their elected officials to overcome the systemic corruption and secrecy surrounding the phenomenon. (3/4)JANUARY 1951
Like many things in the wild, it's small details that make the difference. Trained by the late Gordon Macpherson as part of an elite fly tying team in Zimbabwe, Ray Mutemeri has known this fact to be true for almost 40 years. It was this same attention to detail that brought him up through the ranks, and eventually gave him the opportunity to move to South Africa. He is now the lead tyer at the Johburg office of South africa's biggest fly fishing shop and outfitter -Mavungana Fly Fishing. Perhaps the wildest part of this story: it was almost twenty years and hundreds of thousands of flies later that Ray could first experience the effectivenes of his own craftmanship in the water. Dr. Brian Harris built five dental practices, filled his garage with a Lamborghini, a Ferrari, a GT3, and a G-Wagon, and still wasn't any happier than when he had one office. So he did what almost no one does: he sold the practices back to his associates, went back to one location, and doubled down on the craft he actually loves. In this episode, Peter, Craig, Ian, and Brian unpack the real story behind the highlight reel. Why ego drives expansion more than strategy. Why financial success doesn't automatically create fulfillment. Why younger dentists need to rev the RPMs before they chase lifestyle dentistry. And why the ability to walk away from something you built might be the most underrated skill in the profession. Brian also shares what he's learned from nearly a decade running his own mastermind, building Smile Virtual, and doing $400K a month in production as a solo cosmetic dentist. His core message to every dentist listening: connection before conversion. Stop trying to close people. Start organizing your practice and your life around what actually makes you excited to show up. DESCRIPTION The Bulletproof Dental Podcast Episode: 437 HOSTS: Dr. Peter Boulden, Dr. Craig Spodak, and Ian de Jongh Special Guest: Dr. Brian Harris In this episode, Peter Boulden, Craig Spodak, and Ian de Jongh sit down with Dr. Brian Harris, cosmetic dentist, founder of Smile Virtual, and headliner at the 2026 Bulletproof Summit in Scottsdale. Brian shares the unfiltered story of scaling to five practices, realizing he was making less money and carrying more stress, and making the unconventional decision to go back to one office and focus on what he loves. If you've ever wondered whether more locations, more revenue, or more stuff will actually make you happier, this episode is a brutally honest look at what happens when you get everything you thought you wanted and have to recalibrate. TAKEAWAYS - Building multiple locations without the right leadership layer can leave you earning less than you did with one - Ego and approval addiction are often the real drivers behind expansion decisions - The grind phase early in your career is necessary and shouldn't be skipped - Knowing when to take the cul-de-sac back out is just as important as perseverance - Material success (cars, money, status) does not reliably increase happiness - Organizing your practice around what excites you creates better outcomes than chasing what others say you should do - Connection before conversion is the key to case acceptance and long-term practice success - Social media content works best when it's about your patients, not about you - Repetition through tools like Smile Virtual builds consultation skills that translate to real-life case acceptance - Being out of balance isn't a failure if you recognize it and course correct CHAPTERS 00:00 Opening Banter and Introductions 01:09 What Should the World of Dentistry Be Like 02:53 What Would You Tell Your Younger Self 04:29 The Case Against Lifestyle Dentistry Too Early 06:08 The Dip, the Cul-de-Sac, and Knowing When to Walk Away 07:15 What Are You Most Proud Of 09:15 Going from One Office to Five and Back Again 11:25 The Counter Narrative to Build Build Build 13:51 It Was Ego 15:17 A Garage Full of Supercars and the Same Level of Happiness 17:12 The Trap of Chasing Financial Success 18:16 Finding What You Actually Love About Dentistry 21:10 The Value of Loving Your Craft 23:51 The Strivers Curse and Being Out of Balance 26:10 Acknowledging When You're Out of Balance 28:13 Approval Addiction and Learning to Say No 30:20 People Pleasing Beyond the Operatory 32:27 Building a Personal Brand That Serves Patients 35:07 Content Strategy and Making It About Others 37:06 The Elite Mastermind and Finding Your Tribe 41:56 The Danger of Wrong-Fit Groups and Outside Influencers 44:36 Authenticity Over Sales Tactics 46:09 How Smile Virtual Builds Real Consultation Skills 49:46 Brian's Message to Every Dentist Listening 53:18 The Spirit of Service and Why It Wins 55:27 Brian's Megaphone Moment 59:09 Closing and Summit Details REFERENCES - Bulletproof Summit 2026 - https://bulletproofsummit.com/ - Bulletproof Mastermind - https://bulletproofmastermind.com/ - Smile Virtual - https://smilevirtual.com/
"The living entity, because he is transcendental, has nothing to do with this material nature. Still, because he has become conditioned by the material world, he is acting under the spell of the three modes of material nature. Because living entities have different kinds of bodies in terms of the different aspects of nature, they are induced to act according to that nature. This is the cause of the varieties of happiness and distress." (BG 14.5, purport https://vedabase.io/en/library/bg/14/5/) We are under a spell of the material nature, but that spell can easily be broken by hearing the holy name of the Lord. That's why Bhaktivinoda Ṭhākura, giving us the voice of Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu, who says, "jīv jāgo"—come out of the spell and come under the spell of the holy name. "Mahātmānas tu māṁ pārtha daivīṁ prakṛtim āśritāḥ"—take shelter of that transcendental realm, the holy name, and the Supreme Personality of Godhead. That's what we're doing. It's a very high-minded purpose. So, feel free to give your full attention to the chanting. Just listen to the mantra and practice being present for the mantra, having your mind hold on to that vibration for a long time—as long as possible. When it goes away, bring it back again. That's the practice. Keep doing it again and again and again. Soon you'll catch the holy name, or the holy name will catch you, and you'll be wise and happy. ------------------------------------------------------------ To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #japajolt #makejapagreatagain #mantrameditation #chantharekrishnaandbehapy #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose

This week we're talking about getting older and realizing we don't have to stay attached to the people we used to be. From losing interest in things we once loved — dinner parties, cooking, fashion, entertaining — to craving spontaneity over stuff, this conversation turns into a surprisingly honest chat about changing priorities as we age.We get into birthday expectations, why opportunities and experiences now feel more exciting than material things, and how freeing it can be to stop following the script of what life is “supposed” to look like. Plus, the compliment Cat got at the vet that absolutely took her out, why we don't want your heirlooms, and the unexpected joy of finally embracing exactly who we are right now.Key topicsMinimalism and personal styleSpontaneous opportunities and experiencesChanging preferences and self-awarenessTakeawaysYou don't have to follow the script; you can change what you like.Material possessions are not what bring happiness.Spontaneous opportunities create memorable experiences.
A family's personal dining host on the Disney Magic served them breakfast, then was loaded into a federal van in handcuffs forty-five minutes later. The passenger who filmed it had no idea what was happening — and neither did anyone else for two weeks. According to CBP, Operation Tidal Wave detained 27 crew members across eight cruise ships in San Diego, all allegedly connected to exploitation material. NCMEC intelligence drove the operation. Ten reportedly worked for Disney. Four from Holland America. Disney's response was the same line they have used before: zero tolerance, full cooperation, terminated. What they did not address is prevention. KPBS confirmed federal prosecutors in San Diego and Los Angeles filed no criminal charges against any of the 27. All deported within two weeks. No names. No registry entries. Nearly 200 crew accused of possessing CSAM across the industry in approximately two years, according to Cruise Law News.

2026. Grammatik in der Schule. Zenodo. Jeffrey is Professor of Religion at Washington & Lee University. He is the author of books and essays including "From the Heart: A Memoir and a Meditation – On a Vital Organ," "Arts of Wonder: Enchanting Secularity" which received the 2013 Award for Excellence in Constructive-Reflective Studies from the American Academy of Religion and was also named to the New Museum's list “Favorite titles from the past year,” and Levinas and the Philosophy of Religion. In addition to these original works, he has also translated several books of philosophy and theology from French to English. In this conversation, I spoke with Jeffrey about how art can mediate the invisible, evoke wonder, and challenge the disenchantment of modernity. Jeffrey shared his experiences with significant artworks and how they inspire a contemplative way of seeing, emphasizing the heart as a site of spiritual encounter. Our dialogue also touched on material religion, the sacredness of everyday life, and the interplay between philosophy and art in understanding meaning in a secular age.
“They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. ‘We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,’ they said.” (Acts 14:21–22 NIV) I believe that when we get to Heaven, we’ll look back at our time on earth from a different perspective. I believe we’ll realize that the things we viewed as good weren’t nearly as good as we thought they were. I also believe we’ll realize that some things we thought were bad were, in fact, beneficial. For example, our culture has conditioned us to think of prosperity and success as good things. And for some people, they can be, if they’re used for God’s glory. But quite honestly, for others, financial well-being can be a great distraction, something that causes them to lose sight of God. Material possessions can weigh us down, spiritually speaking, when God wants us to travel light. In addition, we think of sickness or loss or failure as things that are always bad. And they can be bad. Very bad. But they also can be good, because they cause us to cling to God and to lean on Him like we never would have if things had been easier. So, from Heaven’s perspective, a so-called bad thing can be a good thing. When his friend Lazarus was sick, Jesus delayed going to see him in Bethany. John 11:5–7 says, “Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus. So when he heard that Lazarus was sick, he stayed where he was two more days, and then he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go back to Judea’” (NIV). Instead of running to help Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, as they hoped He would, Jesus delayed His arrival by two days. Why? He wanted Lazarus’ sickness to run its course. He didn’t simply want to heal His friend. He wanted to bring greater glory to His name. Sickness and death were the means to bring about that greater glory. The Lord doesn’t look at trials and suffering as we do. The question is, whose perspective will we trust? Here’s a hint: “‘My thoughts are nothing like your thoughts,’ says the Lord. ‘And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts’” (Isaiah 55:8–9 NLT). I believe that God will reveal the whys of our suffering in time. He will help us see the big picture, how our trials ultimately led to a greater good. But until that day, we need to remember these words from Acts 14:21–22: “They preached the gospel in that city and won a large number of disciples. Then they returned to Lystra, Iconium and Antioch, strengthening the disciples and encouraging them to remain true to the faith. ‘We must go through many hardships to enter the kingdom of God,’ they said” (NIV). No matter how many hardships we must endure, the result—eternity in the kingdom of God—is more than worth it. Stop chasing the customer and make the customer chase you. In this episode of Content Amplified, Trisha Navidzade, VP of Marketing at DZYNE Technologies, breaks down why most marketing KPIs are "KPI fluff" and how to swap booth-traffic and view counts for revenue-driven metrics that sales actually cares about. Trisha explains how she flips the usual sales-and-marketing conversation: instead of asking sales what brand awareness they need, she asks what's blocking them from closing, then designs press, content, and digital campaigns around those specific blockers. She walks through why press is her number-one source of qualified leads in a defense-industry sales cycle that can run two to three years, how to "read the room" and bundle news so it's relevant to publications' audiences, and the weekend-meditation question every marketer should sit with: "How do I get the customer to come to me instead of me chasing the customer?" If you're tired of presenting trade-show view counts to your CEO and want a sharper way to connect marketing activity to revenue, this conversation is for you.About TrishaTrisha Navidzade is the VP of Marketing at DZYNE Technologies, an autonomous defense contractor that builds drones and counter-drones designed to protect, defend, and save lives. She started her career in the surf industry in brand and sales roles before transitioning into aerospace about 17 years ago, where she sold space tickets, tried to sell trips to the moon, and worked across the satellite industry in B2B and business-to-government sales. She recently moved into the drone space, which she calls one of the hottest places to be in the industry today. Juan 6:33.

In theater, she's worked Off-Broadway and regionally, with credits including Lincoln Center and A.R.T.Alexandra is currently writing two books:The Embodied Conductor (Meredith Music, 2025) andThe Anatomy of Art (Bloomsbury, 2026).Her work blends somatic practice, rigorous inquiry, and creative freedom to help artists deepen their process and unlock new possibilities.1 — The Creative Process as a Living PracticeAlexandra, you've spent decades inside the creative process — as performer, choreographer, director, and educator. What inspired you to write a book about the creative process now, and what do you hope artists take away from it?Follow-up:The Anatomy of Art reads like a field guide for creative life — part poetic meditation, part practical workbook — with chapters on Time, Space, Meaning, Relationship, Process, Material, and more. Each section offers inquiry prompts, embodiment exercises, and devising practices that help artists reconnect to their sensory intelligence and personal voice. You also weave in contributions from seminal voices like Anne Bogart and Deborah Hay, folding perspectives from across disciplines and generations into the book. Can you share how you designed The Anatomy of Art to live at that intersection of instinct and analysis — and why it felt important to create something that offers rigorous tools while still honoring the mystery of making?2 — Trust, Doubt, and Creative CourageYou speak often about trusting yourself in the creative process. That sounds simple — but it's incredibly difficult in practice. What does it really mean to trust yourself as an artist — and how do creatives actually begin to do that?Optional follow-up:What role does doubt play? Is it something to eliminate — or something to work with?3 — Structure and FreedomYou work with systems like Laban and Bartenieff — which are rigorous, structured methodologies — yet your approach is also deeply poetic and personal. How do you balance structure and freedom in your work? And more broadly, how can artists use structure without becoming constrained by it?4 — Dismantling Habits & Artistic ReinventionYou talk about dismantling habits — creatively and personally. Why is breaking creative habits so essential for growth? What happens if we don't?Follow-up:Is there a connection between the parts of ourselves we hide and the habits we form in our art?5 — Joy, Burnout & Staying PorousArtists often struggle with burnout, pressure, comparison, and the fear of not being “enough.”How can artists stay porous and brave without becoming overwhelmed? And how do we create conditions for joy — especially in careers that can feel filled with struggle?Key themes:• The body as intelligence• Trust as a practice, not a personality trait• Structure as a container for freedom• Dismantling habits to create braver work• Joy as a discipline
President Trump Trump has rejected the latest proposal by Iran saying officials in Tehran had previously agreed to allow the removal of enriched nuclear material from a site he described as "obliterated" by U.S. strikes, but then left it out of a written commitment sent to Washington. From a 10-bed lying-in hospital to Handel's Messiah, the Rotunda Maternity Hospital has operated continuously for 281 years. A Nurses' Week story. Summary Across the street from Danny’s Dublin hotel stood a large white institutional building with no signage. It turned out to be the Rotunda Hospital — the oldest continuously operating maternity hospital in the world, delivering babies in the same building since December 8th, 1757. Surgeon Bartholomew Mosse founded it after losing his wife and child in childbirth, trained as a midwife in Paris at a time when physicians were penalized for practicing midwifery, and returned to Dublin determined to build something that didn’t yet exist. The first version had 10 beds and delivered 190 babies in its first year, with one maternal death. Unable to raise money for a larger hospital — no one wanted to fund poor women’s care — Mosse attended the world premiere of Handel’s Messiah in Dublin in 1742 and was inspired. He turned the future hospital site into a pleasure garden with orchestras, dances, and theater to attract wealthy donors. He was later imprisoned for debt, escaped through a castle window in Wales, hid in the mountains for three weeks, and died exhausted and broke in 1759, less than two years after the new hospital opened. Sara E. Hampson, one of Florence Nightingale’s original nurses, became the hospital’s first female superintendent in 1891 — a thread that ties Nurses Week directly to this building, Danny almost walked past. Welcome to 2026 Nurses Week, May 6th through 12th. I’m very proud to be a nurse. I’ve been a nurse for 50 years. And my grandson’s going to nursing school next year. He’s graduating as a senior and will attend Loyola University in Chicago for its nursing program. I’m very proud. I want to tell you a story about one of the most significant things that happened during our trip to Ireland a couple of weeks ago. We were staying in the north-central city of Dublin, Ireland. Across the street, I saw a big white institutional facade with no signage. It looked like the side of the building. Next to it, on its right, was a dome with a more modern sign that read “Ambassador”. So, I went into the hotel and asked, “So what’s this building?” And they didn’t know. I looked it up, and it turned out to be the Rotunda Hospital. The Rotunda Hospital is the oldest freestanding maternity hospital in the world. Midwifery Was Scandalous. He Did It Anyway. Now let me see. I’ve got some notes here. The hospital was founded in 1745 by a man named Bartholomew Mosse, M-O-S-S-E. He was a certified surgeon. His wife and child died in childbirth. After this tragedy, he left Ireland to serve as a doctor with the British Army. While he was away, he received midwifery training at a hospital in Paris and obtained his midwifery license, which was unusual. In fact, fellows of the Royal College of Physicians were even penalized if they practiced midwifery. But Mosse wanted to change that. So, he built this small place, 10 beds, that… Let’s see, when did it open? I guess it opened in 1745. Mosse’s ambition was to build a dedicated maternity hospital in Dublin to provide medical care and shelter to the city's penniless mothers. This came after he encountered unspeakable conditions during his practice, particularly in the aftermath of the 1739 famine. So he established this 10-bed hospital. It was in a small theater called the New Booth Theatre. It says here that it was the first lying-in hospital of its kind in the world. It had only 10 beds, but in its first year, 190 babies were born, and just one mother died. But obviously, they couldn’t meet demand with 10 beds. When No One Funds Poor Mothers, Try Dancing Mosse tried to raise money to build a larger hospital, but nobody really wanted to give money to poor women. So he happened to attend the world premiere of Handel’s Messiah on April 13, 1742. While he was there, he was inspired to raise money by entertaining the wealthy. Somebody sent me a picture of the Handel statue that’s in front of the theater where the premiere was, which I thought would be interesting. According to my research, on the evening of April 13th, 1742, Handel conducted the world premiere of his Messiah on Dublin’s Fishamble Street, and Mosse was present. Historians suggest that this moment crystallized Mosse’s idea of using high-society entertainment to fund a hospital for the poor. So Mosse turned the proposed hospital site into a pleasure garden with a live orchestra, theatrical performances, and dances in a coffee house, marrying philanthropy with frivolity to reach the wealthy. Debt, Daring Escape, Death Here’s a little interesting tidbit. Lotteries nearly destroyed Dr. Mosse. Before he was able to return to Ireland, he was arrested and charged with being 200 pounds in debt, and he’s thought to have been imprisoned in Beaumaris Castle in Anglesey, Wales. The story was that he managed to escape through a window and hid in the Welsh mountains for three weeks before reaching Ireland. He then vindicated himself by publishing his receipts and lottery accounts, whatever. But less than a year after the hospital opened, he was taken seriously ill, exhausted, heavily in debt, and petrified about the prospect of arrest and imprisonment. He died on February 16th, 1759. Fix the Air, Save the Babies. Then and Now. Around 1781, when the hospital was poorly ventilated and every sixth child died within nine days of birth, they realized the problem was poor ventilation. Ventilation was improved, and mortality dropped to 1 in 20 over the following five years. They’re also planning to celebrate their millionth birth in 2026. It’s just amazing. I met a saleswoman in a sweater store who asked where we went in Dublin. When I told her about the Rotunda Hospital, she said she had a difficult pregnancy and birth without insurance. She received care at the Rotunda Hospital, with her baby in neonatal intensive care for three weeks and herself as an inpatient for two weeks. Awesome care! So, when we were there, I, an old white guy in a wheelchair, motored into the Rotunda Hospital and stopped at the registration desk to ask if I could speak with someone. I had not made an appointment. I was leaving the next day. Very nice people. I tried to get hold of people in their library, research, and marketing, but they were busy, of course. Oldest? It's Relative. I’m really impressed by the idea of being the world's longest-operating specialist hospital. I was trying to get some perspective on that, so I looked up the oldest continuously operating hospitals, and here’s what I learned. I learned that in the United States, the oldest continuously operating hospital is Bellevue Hospital in New York City, which opened in 1736 as a six-bed infirmary.[1] So, it began as a haven for the indigent and is still a major public hospital on the East Side of Manhattan. It opened nine years before Mosse opened his first lying-in hospital. The other long-running hospital is the Pennsylvania Hospital in Philadelphia[2], established in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond. It’s still operational as part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System. The oldest hospital is the Hôtel-Dieu in Paris[3], which officially opened in 650 AD, and that’s the hospital where Mosse became a midwife. There’s St. Bartholomew’s Hospital in London, founded in 1123[4]. And there’s the Hospital de Jesús Nazareno in Mexico City, opened in 1524. But really, the Rotunda is the oldest maternity-only specialist hospital, continuously operating in the world, which is a more specific and arguably more impressive claim than the general acute care hospitals Bellevue and Hôtel-Dieu, which have both moved buildings, changed missions, and been rebuilt. The Rotunda has been delivering babies in the same building since December 8th, 1757. That’s really something. Reflection: Nightingale Was Here Too So, let’s bring this back to Nurses Day and to Florence Nightingale. Interestingly, Sara E. Hampson was one of the original Nightingale nurses and the first lady superintendent of the Rotunda Hospital in 1891. So yay, nursing. Yay, history. I’m really looking forward to exploring more of this amazing hospital in Dublin. I wonder who was in charge all these years, and how it survived past Mosse and through those first decade or first few years? And then, how did the Rotunda Hospital survive war, famine, pandemics, and technological change? What research occurred there? Is there a diaspora of Rotunda alumni? Anyway, more to come. Thanks. A devotee is not vitally concerned with the ups and downs of the material world, but is concerned with going on with his or her service without deviation. Of course, Lord Nṛsiṃhadeva recaptured Hiraṇyakaśipu, and this resembles the tussle between a cat and a mouse. On the lawn of the Denver temple. I saw the cat—who was a temple cat, doing its service—and it caught a mouse. The cat was sitting casually on the lawn, and the mouse was hopping along, and the cat pretended that, "Yeah, it's cool," but then it would pounce again and catch the mouse. Prabhupāda points out in this section that Lord Nṛsiṃhadeva is part cat, and therefore He played with Hiraṇyakaśipu. He bifurcated him—you know what that means. He eviscerated him? It means He pulled out his entrails; He pulled out his heart as well. We have it from Viśvanātha Cakravartī Ṭhākura that when pulling out his heart, the Lord marveled at how a living being, especially an elevated one, could carry such burdenous, material desires within the heart to want to conquer the worlds. He thought, "Why would you keep these things in your heart?" This is also an invitation for everyone to unburden him or herself from carrying around material desires. We find from the contrast between Hiraṇyakaśipu—vilulitanin—in his prayers, Prahlāda Mahārāja says: "Why would I want any stake in the material world, since my father had the biggest stake of anyone in history, and he lost it within a moment?" He was in such a powerful position that when he moved his eyebrows, he forced people to do things; they would cower. And by his mystical potencies, he would be able to dictate to them whatever he wanted, and they would have to do it, he said. But he lost all that within a moment. In the aftermath...(0:25:07) To connect with His Grace Vaiśeṣika Dāsa, please visit https://www.fanthespark.com/next-steps/ask-vaisesika-dasa/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://vaisesikadasayatra.blogspot.com/ ------------------------------------------------------------ Add to your wisdom literature collection: https://iskconsv.com/book-store/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://www.bbtacademic.com/books/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 https://thefourquestionsbook.com/?utm_source=youtube&utm_medium=video&utm_campaign=launch2025 ------------------------------------------------------------ Join us live on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FanTheSpark/ Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/sound-bhakti/id1132423868 For the latest videos, subscribe https://www.youtube.com/@FanTheSpark For the latest in SoundCloud: https://soundcloud.com/fan-the-spark ------------------------------------------------------------ #spiritualawakening #soul #spiritualexperience #spiritualpurposeoflife #spiritualgrowthlessons #secretsofspirituality #vaisesikaprabhu #vaisesikadasa #vaisesikaprabhulectures #spirituality #bhaktiyoga #krishna #spiritualpurposeoflife #krishnaspirituality #spiritualusachannel #whybhaktiisimportant #whyspiritualityisimportant #vaisesika #spiritualconnection #thepowerofspiritualstudy #selfrealization #spirituallectures #spiritualstudy #spiritualquestions #spiritualquestionsanswered #trendingspiritualtopics #fanthespark #spiritualpowerofmeditation #spiritualteachersonyoutube #spiritualhabits #spiritualclarity #bhagavadgita #srimadbhagavatam #spiritualbeings #kttvg #keepthetranscendentalvibrationgoing #spiritualpurpose
