The New Testament believers are gathering and their numbers are growing. Some special requests become apparent, but the apostles are busy with the teaching and other needs. Some men are chosen for the role of deacon to help administrate these new needs. What were the characteristics of these men? What was their purpose and role? Pr. Seth Barkley takes a look at Scripture to help remind us of the spiritual need and role of deacons and elders. Red the Passage: Acts 6:1-6 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Acts%206:1-6&version=NASB1995
When you think you are better than someone else, you are making a judgement call based on certain facts. What if those facts were actually false? That is a dangerous situation. In his letter to the church in Corinth, the Apostle Paul arrives to another exhortation, a section where he calls the church out for their pride in thinking they have arrived at a level of perfection, but forgetting where their forgiveness and transformation actually came from. Do we today live moments of lack of humility and remembrance of our own personal grace? Pr. Seth Barkley continues to look verse by verse through this book to encourage us in our daily Christian walk. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 4:1-13 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%204:1-13&version=NIV
The Apostle Paul is writing to a church in the Roman Empire of mixed ethnicities - Jewish and Gentile. They will understand the concept he uses of being a temple, a place separated for God to live. How does this apply to us today? If we are encouraged to remember to live with God´s wisdom and not the wisdom of man, how would that change us? Join Pr. Seth Barkley as he continues to look verse by verse through this book. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 3:16-23 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%203:16-23&version=NASB1995
The Apostle Paul has a purpose of helping the church in Corinth get out of a ditch of improper Christian living. First he established what true spirituality is and defined God´s wisdom, compared to wisdom of the world. What is an infant in Christianity? What kind of depth did the church have in their understanding of God´s Word? Without good roots, people in the church were following different leaders. Does living in this manner help unite the church or bring division? Join Pr. Seth Barkley as he unpacks these next verses with Paul´s exhortation. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 3:1-15 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%203:1-15&version=NASB1995
The Apostle Paul brings instruction, encouragement and exhortation to the church in Corinth. But he has made it known that what he is sharing and speaking are not words of his own mind, but led by the Spirit of God. Paul then takes specific steps to demonstrate that these words of wisdom from God, through Jesus Himself, are different from words of wisdom of the World. Pr. Seth Barkley continues to look verse by verse through this letter and shares 3 characteristics of God´s wisdom, and 3 characteristics of wisdom from the world. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 2:6-16 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%202&version=NASB1995
One of the things we are told to be as Christians is to be holy, set apart. How separated should we be? And if we are to be witnessing and loving those around us, how close and involved do we become with the world. The Apostle Paul encourages the church in Corinth as they struggle with these aspects of Christian living. How do we face this issue today? Pr. Seth Barkley continues looking verse by verse through the letter written called First Corinthians. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:18 - 2:5 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%201:18-2:5&version=NASB1995
The Apostle Paul has introduced his letter to the church in the city of Corinth. Now, he gets right to the point. The first issue and difficulty he tackles is a lack of unity. A divided church is not a healthy church, and makes the spreading of the Gospel and of God´s love very difficult. What areas divided that church? Paul exhorts the believers to everyone give their allegiance to Christ alone because of what He did, not to anyone specific teacher or leader among them. What areas bring division in the church today? Pr. Seth Barkley continues looking at the first chapter of this study. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:10-17 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%201:10-17&version=NIV
The Apostle Paul is writing to a church in a metropolis called Corinth. It´s a bustling city, much like São Paulo, with rich culture and diversity. The church was birthed out of his evangelistic efforts found in Acts 18-19. There we find God encouraging Paul to not be afraid and to keep preaching, despite persecution. Now, starting out his letter, Paul passes on that encouragement to the believers in that church, reminding them that everything great and the gifts each one has, is because of Jesus, who is faithful and will return. All believers will have His righteousness - not because of our works, but because of Jesus. Pr. Seth Barkley begins his ministry as Lead Pastor of Calvary International Church as he sets the stage and opens a study in the book of First Corinthians. Read the Passage: 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1%20Corinthians%201:1-9&version=NIV
Jesus extends a call to His first disciples to "Follow Me..." and we know whom Jesus is and what those disciples saw through the stories found in the Scriptures. So what does this... "and I will make you fishers of men (people)" mean? What does the act of fishing look like, for how long do we fish, and what kind of fish do we fish for and where? Kerry Anderson wraps up this mini-series looking at the active part of DISCIPLESHIP. Read the Passage: Mark 1:14-20 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%201:14-20&version=NIV
One of the commands that Jesus left for us was to make disciples. What does that mean? Have I been discipled? How do I disciple others? Delton Hochstedler continues looking at the topic of Discipleship by evaluating what happened to the first disciples Jesus called. Three areas in which Jesus helped change those men from their normal, every day lives, included being transformed by God´s authority, by His priority and by His compassion. Read the Passage: Mark 1:16-45 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%201:16-45&version=NIV

Over the centuries the world has seen various persons twist the Bible to mean a certain narrative. These people use the Scripture for personal gain, to promote an agenda, and lead others captive in this deceit. A term the Apostle Peter uses for these masters are "false teachers" with an insatiable appetite like a sow that can´t get out of the mud and eats anything in its path. Whom do you follow?
