(April 4, 2012 + November 20, 2020) Savage shares why life "sucks," happiness is fleeting, and accepting life's difficulty makes it easier to handle. He argues American weakness comes from media and cultural delusions that everyone should be happy. He criticizes reliance on government "crutches and a fantasy culture fueled by TV and movies. He recalls growing up with radio, valuing imagination, and says creative people transform sadness rather than suppress it with drugs. He then advises parents to teach children reality and how to be alone and resilient. Savage then reflects on the passage of time. He ponders why the passing of time feels faster with age? He urges younger people, even those estranged from their parents, to cherish them because the bond is irreplaceable.
There's a kind of tired that doesn't go away with sleep, the tiredness of a nervous system that hasn't had a quiet moment in years. Notifications, decisions, the next thing and the next thing after that. Somewhere underneath it all, many of us are carrying a question we don't say out loud: when did I stop hearing myself? Sharon Ann Rose, who has spent over 25 years helping women move through life's biggest transitions using feminine wisdom and nervous system restoration, joins host Avik to talk about what stillness actually is, why burnout runs deeper than a scheduling problem, and how to come home to yourself without needing to fix anything first. About the Guest: Sharon Ann Rose is a ritualist, ceremonialist, and transformational facilitator with more than 25 years of experience guiding women through personal, professional, and spiritual thresholds. She is the author of Faces of the Mother: A Feminine Path to Embodiment through Ancient Wisdom, Archetypes, and Soul Fertility, and leads Women's Sacred Rites of Passage, supporting women through ceremony, nervous system restoration, and feminine wisdom traditions. Key Takeaways: Stillness isn't the absence of movement, it's turning toward your interior movement instead of outrunning it. Burnout often isn't really a scheduling problem, it's fear: of being left out, of not being enough, of what happens if you slow down. You don't need an hour of stillness to start, a single one minute "sacred pause" a few times a day can be enough to begin. Falling off a practice isn't failure, that stillness is always there and it will call you back, sometimes in a week, sometimes in years. Notice what makes you feel like you can exhale, and befriend that moment, that's the doorway back to yourself. Connect With the Guest:

Key extensions to Tauranga's wharf have been given the green light after a seven-year battle. A fast-track expert panel's issued a draft decision proposing to grant all approvals sought by Port of Tauranga. The development involves extending the Sulphur Point container berth by 385 metres and the Mount Maunganui wharves by 315 metres. Port Chief Executive Leonard Sampson told Mike Hosking it's been incredibly frustrating getting to this stage. He says in the scheme of things, it's minor upgrades to accommodate more container vessels. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
In November 2022, Oregon voters narrowly passed a gun control measure that bans high-capacity gun magazines and requires safety training, completed background checks and permits for firearm purchases. Measure 114 awaits a decision by the Oregon Supreme Court and if it’s upheld, the soonest it could take effect is January 2028. The prospect of gun control restrictions nonetheless fueled a sharp demand in gun purchases in Oregon leading up to and following the Measure 114 referendum. That’s according to a new study by researchers from Oregon State University, the University of Oregon and the National Bureau of Economic Research. Using background checks as a proxy for firearm purchases, the researchers found that background checks spiked nearly 160% in the two months after the passage of Measure 114. The researchers said the measure led to 63,000 more background checks in Oregon between October 2022 and March 2024 than would have otherwise been expected during this time. Katie Bollman, an assistant professor in economics at OSU, joins us for more details.

Core MessageThis passage highlights the necessity of absolute faith in the True Guru (Satguru) and the Divine Word (Shabad) as the only pathway to inner peace, liberation from ego, and direct connection with God.Key ThemesTrue Faith vs. Empty Rituals (Shalok, 1st Section): Merely visiting the Guru repeatedly without inner devotion, faith, or love for the Word brings no peace. True connection occurs naturally when a follower aligns with the Guru's teachings and directs their focus toward the Eternal Lord.Overcoming Ego and Illusion (Shalok, 2nd Section): Seeking and serving a true spiritual guide removes the cycle of spiritual suffering and anxiety. Meditating on the Word burns away ego and tears down the veil of falsehood, allowing truth, self-discipline, and deep internal tranquility to enter. Meeting such a Guru is ultimately a gift of divine grace. The Absolute Authority of God (Pauree): The sovereign power of God surpasses all earthly courts or human authority. While one can flee human judgment, no one can escape God's realm. Those who harbor God within their hearts receive divine honor, and even worldly forces yield before them. Meditating on the Lord's Name is a rare blessing granted through grace.

Using transformational breathwork, guided microdosing support, somatic ritual and emotional excavation, her work meets women in the places most avoid... the unraveling, the burning, the falling apart...and transforms those moments into a becoming.Victoria's own awakening began in Costa Rica, when everything she thought she needed to feel loved, safe or worthy started to collapse. What looked like failure was actually her Rite of Passage into self-trust, honesty and the woman you become when you stop abandoning yourself. After leaving an emotionally abusive relationship, Victoria rebuilt her life from the ground up and spent nearly four years living full-time in her Ram Promaster van with her dog, Olivia Grace. Her van became her initiation chamber, a sacred space to learn to trust her body, intuition, truth and the quiet voice that had been waiting decades to lead.Victoria works through psychological wisdom, nervous system healing, transformational breathwork, guided microdosing, intuitive channeling, somatic rituals and emotional excavation. She helps women fully be themselves in midlife, showing them that falling apart is often the beginning of becoming. She calls herself a "spiritual outlaw" because she refuses to heal or lead within the confines of traditional systems, surface-level fixes or fluff. "This work is not about bypassing the hard stuff, it's about entering the sacred, messy, untamed places where real healing lives," Victoria says. "I walk between realms of emotional, spiritual, somatic and psychological and I'm not here to guide women to think their way into peace. I guide you to feel, to embody and to remember. A spiritual outlaw breaks the rules of what healing is 'supposed to' look like; doesn't fix you — she walks with you as you unlearn the lies and reclaim your soul; channels deep wisdom that comes from lived experience, intuition and higher intelligence — not just certifications; uses non-linear tools like breathwork, somatic ritual and emotional excavation to guide people back to their power; refuses spiritual bypassing and meets you in the root of it — trauma, lineage, nervous system patterns — and helps transmute them into gold; and is wildly intuitive, slightly rebellious, deeply grounded and divinely guided."In this episode, we talk about:--Midlife as a Rite of Passage--Why women in their 40s, 50s and 60s are unraveling and why this is actually the beginning of their becoming.--Being a Spiritual Outlaw--The future of healing beyond fluffy positivity and patriarchal conditioning--Breathwork + Microdosing using natural, non-addictive medicine for Emotional Reinvention--A grounded, embodied approach for women ready to reclaim self-trust and inner safety.--Living on the Road After Burning Down Your Life--Lessons from four years of nomadic living about freedom, intuition and rebuilding identity.--Rebirth After Divorce, Abuse and Identity Collapse--How to trust yourself again when everything familiar has fallen away. She offers free resources:Her Guided Meditation Collection consists of short, soul-nourishing meditations for midlife transformation:https://www.victorialeestarr.com/free-meditationBreathe with Intention: Your ToolkitPractical breathwork exercises to reclaim calm, clarity and self-trust:https://www.victorialeestarr.com/free-breathe-toolkitHot Flashes BreathworkA focused practice for navigating menopause with embodiment and empowerment:https://www.victorialeestarr.com/hotflashesLearn more:Website: https://www.victorialeestarr.com/Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/victorialeestarr/Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/victorialeestarrLinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/victoria-starr-68495a280/

Send us Fan MailRELENTLESSPart 3 | When The Entire City Turns AroundSenior Pastor Keith Stewart August 02, 2026Have you ever secretly wondered if someone is beyond God's grace? The book of Jonah asks a far more uncomfortable question: What if the real problem isn't that God loves our enemies... but that we don't? This weekend we'll discover why the greatest miracle in Jonah isn't a man swallowed by a great fish. It's an entire city transformed by the grace of God—and a prophet who still struggles to accept it. What happens when God extends mercy to people we think don't deserve it? And what if the greatest obstacle to revival isn't "out there"... but in our own hearts? Join us this Sunday for RELENTLESS – Part 3: When an Entire City Turns Around You may discover that the hardest person for God to change isn't Nineveh... it's Jonah. And maybe, at times, it's us.DISCUSSION QUESTIONSIcebreaker 1. Have you ever been given a second chance that changed the direction of your life? What happened? Digging into the Passage 2. Jonah receives the exact same calling in chapter 3 that he received in chapter 1. What does that teach us about God's persistence and His purposes for our lives? 3. Why do you think the people of Nineveh responded so quickly while Jonah remained so resistant to God's grace? 4. One of the key ideas in the message was that "The Ninevites believed God," not simply Jonah. Why is that distinction important? Going Deeper 5. The Hebrew word hapak can mean either "to overthrow" or "to transform." How does that deepen your understanding of what God intended for Nineveh? 6. The sermon suggested that judgment is God's last resort, while redemption is His delight. Where else do you see that pattern in Scripture or in your own life? 7. Jonah experienced extraordinary grace but struggled to extend grace to others. Why is it often easier to receive God's forgiveness than to celebrate it in someone else's life? Personal Application 8. The sermon said: "We always believe more in the power of Nineveh than we do in the transforming power of God's grace." Where do you see that tendency in yourself or in today's culture? 9. Is there a person or group of people you find difficult to believe God could genuinely transform? What might that reveal about your own heart? 10. Near the end of the message we asked: "Will I allow Him to transform me?" What is one area of your life where God may be calling you to turn—to experience your own hapak? Prayer Spend time praying for three things:• A heart that celebrates God's grace wherever it appears.• The humility to recognize areas where prejudice, pride, or bitterness may still exist.• Courage to say "yes" to whatever transformation God wants to accomplish in your own life.
This summer, we explore themes from popular films alongside Scripture, uncovering how God's truth speaks through the stories we love. From adventure and sacrifice to redemption and hope, each week reminds us that God is present in every part of our story—inviting us into something greater. Everyone remembers the iconic scene from the movie Rocky in which Rocky Balboa bounds up the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and looks over the city and raises his voice in victory - a victory he has yet to experience in reality, but one he is now prepared to encounter. This week, Rev. Jerry Andrews, Pastor Emeritus at First Presbyterian Church of San Diego compares and contrasts the difference between trying versus training, and examines how Paul distinguishes between the two when it comes to our lives of faith. Some of the earliest canals in colonial America, referred to as the Inner Passage, were constructed by enslaved people living in the Lowcountry of South Carolina in the early 1700s. In a paradox of history, for over a hundred years enslaved Black people used these canals, constructed for white plantation owners, to travel southward to freedom in Spanish Florida. In The Inner Passage: An Untold Story of Black Resistance Along a Southern Waterway (MIT Press, 2026), Virginia McGee Richards documents the lost narrative of the Inner Passage through 60 extraordinary photographs of landscapes altered by slavery and portraits of Lowcountry descendants, along with an essay describing her discovery of this untold history. In an accompanying essay, Imani Perry writes about her own journey on the Inner Passage, putting Black resistance to enslavement and Southern history into an immediate context. James Estrin brings decades of insight about photography and the power of visual storytelling to his affecting foreword. Together, these words and images offer a powerful living map of history. Fasting and Feasting: A Spiritually Balanced DietSeries: Good IntensionSpeaker: Dr. Wes FeltnerDate: 2nd August 2026Passage: Matthew 3:13-4:4
Our poet moves from his scholastic and even (medieval) scientific opening of PARADISO into his invocation . . . to Apollo? This passage has often embarrassed Dante scholars who feel the need to excuse various pieces of it.But we can let those pieces stand as part of the polyvocality of the text.Join me, Mark Scarbrough, as we move back and forth from the Christian to the pagan as we walk through this second part of Dante's opening lines of PARADISO.Here are the segments for this episode of WALKING WITH DANTE:[01:11] My English translation of PARADISO, Canto I, Lines 13 - 36. If you'd like to read along or continue the conversation with me via a comment on this episode, please find its entry on my website, markscarbrough.com.[03:09] This passage embarrasses too many Dante scholars.[09:14] This passage is polyvocal, a two-part fugue or invention.[17:59] These two voices lead to dissonances in the passage.[23:36] Did Dante intend these dissonances?[25:20] Three small dissonances: Dante crowns himself, fights in an arena, and find his worth in two places at once.[28:32] Marsyas, a comedic tragedy.[32:01] The flame of the tongue, Pentecost, or maybe Ulysses.[34:48] A high-toned, perhaps red-flag reference to Cyrrha.[35:55] An inaccurate but telling reference to Parnassus.[39:07] Rereading the passage: PARADISO, Canto I, lines 13 - 36.
Does 1 Thessalonians 4:16–17 really teach a secret pre-tribulation rapture? For generations, many Christians have viewed this passage as one of the clearest biblical proofs that the Church will be removed from the world before the Great Tribulation. But is that what Paul actually meant? In Episode 3 of Top 10 Most Controversial Verses: Eschatology Edition, Matt Plett examines the famous “caught up” passage and challenges one of modern evangelicalism’s most influential assumptions. Rather than describing believers escaping the earth, Paul may instead be portraying the public, victorious arrival of Christ and the resurrection of the dead. Exploring the meaning of “meeting the Lord in the air,” Roman historical background, resurrection themes, and the wider biblical context, this episode takes a fresh look at one of the most debated texts in Bible prophecy.
EPISODE 240 Human life is rarely defined by permanence. It is instead defined by change. You do not live in static conditions. You live your life in dynamic conditions. A career begins and ends. Relationships form and dissolve. Health changes. Beliefs evolve. Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) disrupt industries. You move through periods of uncertainty in the chaos of change before your life stabilizes into something new. Between every significant “before” and “after” exists an interesting space: called the “passage.” A “passage” is the ambiguous space between two change events. A “passage” is a psychological, emotional, intellectual, relational, and spiritual interval space between what was and what will become. A “passage” is often where your most important personal growth actually occurs. How can you use effective use “passages” when they occur your own life? Reacting to “passages” and change in a positive way can help you create a positive impact in your personal and professional life. Title: A Future of Redemption Preacher: Caleb Morell Series: God's Future for His People Passage: Isaiah 59:1-21
When did we need life to be so predictable and safe that it siphoned all the adventure and aliveness out? The antidote is questions and initiations to open the mystery back up by challenging everything we think we know. And our guest today, Lincoln Stoller, is here to invite us to some interesting perspectives. Join us to find out more! Lincoln Stoller is a mountaineer, physicist, computer scientist, entrepreneur, psychotherapist, hypnotherapist and neuropsychologist. Lincoln was born later in life to parents who were both artists who provided him support, motivation and encouragement to be creative, but not much direction to pursue those. He was rebellious, pushed boundaries and resentfully attended public school, constantly questioning the limitations taught in classrooms by his teachers. Lincoln preferred real danger like what he found in his introduction to mountaineering over fabricated danger. With time and maturity, Lincoln learned that if you’re going to be in more and more dangerous situations, the consequences of your mistakes get increasingly serious. Lincoln Stoller is also a bestselling, award-winning author. While writing both his first book “The Learning Project – Rites of Passage” he spoke to a lot of people who went through rites of passage, and they said several important things, one of which was to find mentors. Lincoln now works from his home on Vancouver Island, to provide counseling, consulting and brain training to achieve goals, relieve stress, and help you to redefine your future. Watch or listen to the show to learn tips to help you achieve goals, relieve stress, and redefine your future. You’re Invited! He works remotely worldwide and in-person on Vancouver Island, Canada. He addresses short-term mental health situations dealing with symptoms of anxiety, emotional distress, depression, and trauma due to difficult relationships or ill health. He is especially interested in people who are changing or creating things. He does not subscribe to any psychotherapeutic modality and instead work with each person’s unique issues, strengths, weaknesses, and situations. What you want to do and are able to do are all that he focuses on. While he is interested in mental and physical diagnoses he is not directed by them; his response to both is, “How can you benefit from dealing with this?” Lincoln offers a 3-level sliding scale based on whether you are insured, employed, both or neither. Under some conditions he will accept a lower or request a higher fee. He lists his rates in US dollars. He offers a free, introductory consultation which you can schedule on that website. They're emotionally unavailable because they were never taught how to process emotion, navigate intimacy, or move through the transition from boyhood to manhood.
