Passage: Philippians 2:5-8 Sermon Notes: This Christmas season, we reflect on Philippians 2:5-8 to uncover the depth of Christ's humility. Through His birth, life, and sacrifice, Jesus demonstrated selfless humility, servanthood, and sacrificial love. Join us as we explore how Christ's incarnation teaches us to embrace His mindset in our daily lives and live in light of His transformative love. Study Group Questions 1. Understanding the Text: What does Philippians 2:5-8 teach us about Christ's divine nature and His choice to humble Himself? How does the concept of kenosis (self-emptying) challenge our understanding of humility and service? 2. Application to Daily Life: In what ways can you adopt the mindset of selfless humility in your relationships and actions? Reflect on areas in your life where pride or entitlement might be hindering your walk with Christ. How can you surrender these to Him? 3. Gospel Focus: How does Christ's humility, as seen in His birth and death, deepen your understanding of the Gospel? How can you share the selfless love of Christ with others this Christmas season? 4. Reflection on Sacrifice: What does it mean to embrace a heart of selfless sacrifice? Are there areas in your life where God is calling you to greater sacrifice for His glory or the sake of others? Main Points for Note-Taking 1. Christ's Birth Teaches Us to Have a Posture of Selfless Humility: Jesus, though fully God, did not cling to His divine privileges but humbled Himself. His humility is a model for us to count others as more significant and let go of selfish ambition. 2. Christ's Birth Teaches Us to Have the Mind of a Selfless Servant: Jesus chose servanthood over domination, coming to serve rather than to be served. His example challenges us to relinquish entitlement and focus on meeting others' needs. 3. Christ's Birth Teaches Us to Have a Heart of Selfless Sacrifice: Christ's incarnation and death demonstrate the ultimate sacrifice for our salvation. We are called to reflect this sacrificial love in our own lives, putting God's glory and the good of others above our own desires To give please visit: wearetruelove.com/give Join TLC on our social media for updates! Message: In Philippians, Paul tells us to have the same mind in us that Christ has. That means that we must have the mind of Christ. The mind of Christ sees what the Father is doing, it sets our minds on eternal things, it is crucified, and is filled with the peace of God.  Passage: Philippians 2:4-7 “Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others. 5 Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, 6 who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, 7 but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. https://opendoorla.org/

Message: How do we allow God's good work to be completed in us? We grow in our identity in Christ, we grow in our purpose, and we grow in our practice. We, as Christians, have to understand that our identity can't be found anywhere except for in Christ. We have to commit everything to the Lord and our thoughts and desires will begin to be transformed to His. After that, we have to put off the old man and put on the fruit of the Spirit.  Passage: Philippians 1:2-6 “Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”

Oh, how much I grasp for my own peace and security...  Yet, again, I'm reminded that the ability to consider others above myself is only done through the truth that I am encouraged, comforted, cared for, and loved by the deep well that is Christ Jesus.   May this prayer attributed to St. Francis of Assisi be our guide as we continue to seek him in this day of prayer and fasting...   Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.  Where there is hatred, let me bring love.  Where there is offense, let me bring pardon.  Where there is doubt, let me bring faith.  Where there is despair, let me bring hope.  Where there is darkness, let me bring light.  Where there is sadness, let me bring joy.   O Master, let me not seek as much to be consoled as to console,  to be understood as to understand, to be loved as to love.   For it is in giving that I receive, it is in self-forgetting that I find, it is in pardoning that I am pardoned,  and in dying that I am raised to eternal life.   For thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever…AMEN.NOTES & LINKS:21 Days of Prayer and Fasting WebsitePDF Guide to Prayer & FastingAs part of the 21 days, we're committing to 21 days of 24/7 prayer. Not just the story of God found in Scriptures, but the story of God that continues in this present moment. We will be engaging our imaginations and creativity, which seem to atrophy as we grow into adulthood, by revisiting some childhood fairytales and discovering how these stories might illuminate God and the Scriptures for us in a new way. “Cinderella” is a story for the ages, and one with which we are very familiar. We love the hope it brings especially if we are the ones living on the margins. This great reversal is written in the story of Christ.  Passage: Philippians 2:5-11 While the capital campaign is official done, there is still more work to be done. We are continuing our summer sermon series entitled "No! That's Not in the Bible". We are exploring different quips and sayings that often get attributed to the Bible when they are either severely misquoted or misunderstood, or they are not in the Bible altogether. It will be a lot of fun. This week, our Director of Community Life, Evan Gratz talks about how we often believe that the harder we work the more God will help us, but the truth is God is the one at work.  Passage: Philippians 2:12-13 We now have three worship opportunities for you to experience. We have our Sanctuary Service ("blended") at 9am. Our Online Service begins at 9:30am at pointlomachurch.org. And our Chapel Service ("modern") starts at 10:30am. Please consider joining us for one of these services.  To find and explore the exciting opportunities for people to get involved in what God is doing within our community, please visit our website at www.pointlomachurch.org.  For event happenings: http://pointlomachurch.org/connect/events/ To register for any event: http://pointlomachurch.org/register If you would like to give to the ministry: http://pointlomachurch.org/give/ Music in this podcast by Marc Shaw
